BangerMain Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) In front of other people Leonard mentions that Penny has a drinking problem and she points out his shortcomings in the bedroom. Yeah, they're in a great place. And what was the final follow up of Penny's comment about Leonard's "9 minute Man" performance and Leonard's mention of Penny's "drinking" problem? Lenny: "Hey, we're hungry. Let's get some Thai food!" Edited March 3, 2014 by BangerMain

hamerman55 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I thought the contrast between the three couples in the last episode was interesting, and tellling. Clearly Lenny is the healthiest, although watching Amy manipulate Sheldon was really funny.
Oldnavy Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I agree Hammerman. The contrast between the couples is fun to watch. Shamy is clearly the relationship that still has some growth ahead of it. Amy and Sheldon are working through some similar issues that Lenny was in seasons 3, 5 and 6. H/B have their moments of growth but at the same time, they also seem to be struggling with som eof the common problems that married couple face within the first two years of marriage as they really get to know one another and seeing the realities of the person they married minus the veils of the dating relationship, when the man and the woman are always trying to show their best side. Lenny is just at a real good point in their relationship. The only issue is Penny's reluctance to make the final step. In the latest episodes though it appears that Lenny already acts like a married couple. They have been together so long that they already know each others strengths and weaknesses. They no longer look at each other through rose colored glasses, yet they are comfortable with each other. Lenny is much more than just lovers, they truly are best friends. Tensor Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Once, in "Hesitation Ramification". You're right, she has a real problem. Not to mention she just got blindsided by something she thought was going to be great for her, that just turned bad. Hell, I've gone out drinking for some things that were far less of a problem or than that. And, then next day, when she sobered up, she took action to attempt to fix the problem that caused her to drink (although we still don't know how it will work out in the long run, yet). You know one thing that you said really got me thinking, I keep thinking of Leonard and Penny as in a relationship, lovers and soul mates, but I forget they are primarily best friends who have come to love each other. So the banter between them on Valentines day makes more sense, they were acting like best friends, picking on each other, but not taking anything seriously, that is why they could go from giving each other a hard time about bedroom time to being both thinking about food, it was never serious, it was just friendly banter. If you think of Penny as Leonard's best friend, and think about how you act with your best friend, Season 7 makes more sense.
Martin Pollard Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Wake up and smell the coffee. The writers are giving not so subtle hints that things are not going so well between Leonard or Penny. It looks to me like Penny and Leonard are heading for some very big problems. Hello Alex, Priya, Stephanie, Comic Book girl, Leslie Winkle, whoever. I don't smell coffee. All I smell is bovine feces, and it's coming from your direction. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk
hokie3457 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Let me get this straight, because of their irresponsible actions, Raj's dog that he treats like a child may be dying, and of instead of waiting around to make sure that it is alright they decide they are going to leave because they are hungry and somehow THAT is a touching moment? How about two uncaring self-indulgent narcissists who could care less about the feelings of one of their so-called "friends"? As for their light-hearted banter when Leonard points out to his alcoholic girlfriend that she has a drinking problem and she tells her boyfriend who insecure about his ability to please her sexually that he is "quick on the draw" so to speak, demonstrates what a great couple they are? In what adult world? Wake up and smell the coffee. The writers are giving not so subtle hints that things are not going so well between Leonard or Penny. Tell me now romantic it is that Penny and Leonard decided to go get something to eat before they learned whether or not Raj's dog was going to die as a result of their negligence. As for what Leonard is going to do for her this week, let's look at this. Penny, who has depended on both Leonard and Sheldon for years in order to make ends meet, decides to quit her job and in order to pursue her acting career full time. Since she couldn't make ends meet on her own while she was working, how is she gong to do it after SHE decides on her own to quit her job? How is she going to pay rent, buy groceries, pay utilities, car insurance, car repairs, and everything else? The answer is a no brainer, Leonard will do it. Did she ask him? No, of course not. So he buys her something else. So what? He's been supporting her for years. There was an episode when Penny's friend came to visit and was doing Howard because of all of the things he was buying her. The idea of quitting TCF is to get rid of the safety net, so it would be pretty asinine to have Leonard be the replacement net. If that were the case she would have moved in at the very least, probably married him, and quit years ago. In the past he has paid her rent, let her eat their food for free. It's anybody's guess if he she paid him back. If he is not her safety net why buy the car? As a matter of principle she should say no to the car. It probably looks better, though at least to the viewer, that you won't really see the car and Leonard writing the actual check for it. I hear allot of meaningless platitudes but no real arguments. I believe they knew the dog was all right before Raj and the vet went to see the dog in the back.. I keep waiting for Penny and the AA meetings and Leonard's visits to the doctor for his "quick draw" problems. I'm guessing that will be on upcoming episodes. It seems you think every line on the show isn't suppose to be funny. A real argument is alcoholism and bedroom difficulties will be used only as a joke. There is no extended comedy in those topics. Penny's comment on time was to give an idea how long had it been since the dog ate the chocolate. I'm not disagreeing with you that thinks aren't perfect with Leonard and Penny and on a TV drama they may be discussed in a serious way. Not on TBBT though. I wished she had turned down the car as well. I don't like this storyline one bit.

People do things out of love and I don't think any of us can disagree Leonard has loved Penny from the beginning. Some of the things he does seem stupid and naive to us, but he doesn't really understand that and he just loves her. We know she has paid Sheldon back and there is no indication she hasn't paid Leonard back, hell for all we know she sold her old panties to Raj and Howard, for the $1400 she owed Leonard, Raj was taking his wallet out. So I don't see Penny taking advantage of Leonard and I think the writers don't want her to look like a gold digger either, her character is suppose to be loveable. The car he is giving her is because of his character's feelings towards her and his need to help her, Leonard has never been able to logically deal with Penny, his heart keeps getting the way, so he is helping her again. There are never any strings attached to his help and after all these years, Penny knows that, so why shouldn't she take it, BTW she does love him too. Raj/Howard were teasing her of getting all this free stuff for not even putting out.(they weren't together). She asked Leonard how much she owed and Leonard told her but wasn't the one that brought it up to begin with. I guess you can assume she did but in the case with Sheldon you knew. BTW she got Sheldon's money from Kurt after Leonard made a "visit".
Kasey Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I'm going to show my old fashioned roots by saying that I see Leonard buying her a car to help her in achieving her goals is what anyone in a committed relationship would do. They really are acting like a married couple (I've never subscribed to having separate bank accounts and all that and I've been on both sides of the bread winning line) in that they are working together. Maybe the fact that there hasn't been a movement to cement the relationship via moving in or proposal is because of the implications with Sheldon. Yeah, yeah I know that he's not their child BUT the Leonard-Sheldon-Penny dynamic is so central to the show that I think the writers are trying to tread carefully so not to ruin it... Given how they are writing Leonard and Penny as a permanent couple, my analogy to this would be that if a wife's car died, the husband would replace it, if he were the primary breadwinner at that point in time. They are a team, so just as Penny was asked by Leonard to take one for the team in the last episode, in essence, Leonard paying for a new car for Penny is supporting the team. Each partner does what they can to support the partnership. I don't see this as a power thing.
