Leonard And Penny Season 7 *spoiler* Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

They get onto the idea of what will happen 20 years from now and they hope they are all still friends hanging out. Leonard suggests that whatever they are doing in 20 years time, they should agree to meet outside the apartment building, this time in 20 years and have dinner.

They all agree....

The scene ends with a "20 years later" Tag. Stuart is standing outside the apartment complex 20 years later, looking a lot older waiting for anyone to turn up. They never do. Scene ends.

For some reason, this makes me sad.

I think the biggest clue was the proton episode that will probably be shown May 1. Things had to get better to reach that point and thus nothing really bad happened in between.

Them joking about it together, reminds me of Leonard's statement, when he proposed during sex, that some day they will laugh about it. I think there has to be a ring for them to seriously propose. I like the idea someone proposed, that Penny proposes and Leonard tells her "No that won't do" and before she recovers he gets on his knee, opens the ring box and asks her to marry him.

Anyway, I am looking forward to tonight's episode, because I think it is going to be a big Lenny moment, a sort of formal acceptance by Penny that they are now a team and in it together.

Saw the preview of tonight's show.(I must have been the last one) Is it me or does it seem odd that Leonard thought Penny should do the Ape Movie but Penny didn't? You would thought it would have been the other way around. I understand Leonard with the money part but still. Looks like the rest of the gang sided with Penny. Of course it makes it more dramatic when Leonard gets Penny a new car so she doesn't have to go back to TCF.

I think Penny is thinking about whether or not a straight-to-DVD or straight-to-youtube kind of movie would do her any good in her career.  While she would earn a few bucks (and how much money would she really make?) doing a crappy movie, it wouldn't be something she'd be proud to put on her resume.  It would make her look worse rather than better (in the eyes of the Hollywood casting directors, etc.)

And of course, Leonard's looking at her financial bottom line, thinking, like someone outside the business would, that any money is better than no money.

In the TV/movie industry, she'd be better off professionally with smaller roles on random TV shows or decent independant films than she would with a "starring" role in a stinkfest of a movie, especially if the role doesn't really call upon her to act.

If she were to submit a clip reel of her performances, something like that would only make her look cheap because it wouldn't really call upon her to do any real acting.

When I saw Lacy Chabert in the remake of Lost in Space, I knew instantly she was going to be a star, and that was a craphole of a film.

Its a crapshoot for her. She needs to get noticed somehow, but she's not in those circles where she might meet someone who would notice her. An analogy might be found in the Gus Van Sant film "To Die For". Nicole Kidman was hysterically serious as the girl who would do anything to get in front of a camera. Penny is not like that, so she has to find a different way in. Probably NOT doing a 2 movie is good - especially an exploitation flick. It will be interesting to see how they play this out, because she is really pushing it uphill. Maybe she could be a genre star, but she needs to meet people that will like her and build her reputation. Maybe Hawking can hook her up with a producer who might put in a word for her, after Leonard revisits the results of his trip. But WTFDIK. :)

eta. I just hope Leonard will continue to bankroll her until something good happens. Its not her mooching (eta 2 or losing her independence) - its him giving unconditional support, that he can afford.

No thanks to that one. The point of quitting TCF was to get rid of her safety net, and she would not be doing that if she went to depending on Leonard instead. It would reflect poorly on her, and it would be surrounding her independence. The good news is she seems to still be living on her in May's Proton, so at least he hasn't moved in out of necessity.

Without seeing the entire episode, I think Leonard was just saying what most people would say.  She's been offered a part.  She needs the money.  Ergo she should do the movie.  It comes from a logical place so I really cannot fault him for that.  Starting out in anything is tough and usually requires sacrifices at the beginning to achieve the desired end...

Oh and yes I agree with your "eta" statement but I won't belabor my previously stated opinion on that..

And of course WTHDIK  (sorry had to replace with "heck")   :curtsey:

Looking at the taping reports, they list the broadcast date for the next PP episode as tonight, as well as "The Friendship Turbulence". Am I reading this right?

In the clip, it didn't seem that Leonard was being finicky about supporting her, and specifically mentioned her savings. So she does have a reserve, therefore options. In defense of Leonard, many people have an abhorrence of blank time periods on their resumes. It seems to be a thing here in NJ. I doubt it is as big a deal for actors.

Did you ever see the Far Side cartoon where a character who was only a little bad was sent to "Heck", instead of the other, worse, place?

Based on what i've seen this season, and what i have read from the taping reports, my guess is one of these outcomes will happen with leonard and penny in the finale. let me know what you guys think. I believe that either l/p will finally get engaged in the season 7 finale since they have kinda been dancing around that topic for much of the season, or penny will get some kind of acting deal that will require her to move (temporarily) out of california. i dont think leonard will have one of those, because we saw him do that in the season 6 finale. they are potentially hinting at penny getting an acting deal though, so i think that's possible. i dont think these two will break up due to everything these two have been through and due to the growth these two have had as a couple. i do think the fact that penny has quit at the CCF and moved on to acting may cause conflict between L/P, especially if Penny is really successful, however I think there is no possible way they would break up. I guarantee that one of these two things will happen. sorry if that post was all over the place. lol

You missed  third.  Penny finally runs out of money and realizes that not being able to chase her dream scares her more than moving in with someone she loves.

That car scene was nice, I really liked that.  Kaley was awesome playing Penny tonight. I definitely need to watch that episode again.

Quick note:

Leonard and Penny are in her apartment and it struck me what was different about Leonard, he didn't have on a hoodie in that scene and the car scene.

The scenes with Penny telling him about the car, when they were leaving and then the car were really well done.  I think having Sheldon come out into the hall when Penny was pouring her heart out to Leonard about everything was in really poor taste by the writers and wasn't a bit funny.

I liked Leonard and Penny tonight but I thought the scene when Leonard gives her the car was too short and a bit rushed. I thought they could of cut some of Howard and Sheldon on the plane. IMO it was a bit of overkill. Didn't notice Leonard without the hoodie until Army mentioned it. I guess I was too busy looking at Penny.

i think you're overthinking this a bit. remember bbt is a comedy, and as a comedy, the writers probably wanted to add in some comic relief to this serious/sad situation.

Oh good, I thought it was just me, but I thought that scene was way too short and rushed too.

After tonight's episode, I really want Penny to get some acting jobs, all we see is disappointment with her, I want her to have some success.

I felt the same way. It seemed underplayed, almost like they had written this really great moment, and then realized that they were afraid of what to do next.

Upon reflection, I can't imagine what they would do next, if one is viewing where Lenny are in a positive way. Leonard and Penny are about one second away from getting engaged, as they seem past any doubt. The writers could put in a successful proposal at any point, and it would be believeable. Even Penny jumping Leonard's bones would have compromised the moment. I wished it would have been longer, but I'm not sure who they'd do it.

I haven't seen the show yet, but i still cant understand how Leonard helping her, when she needs help, is anything but a good thing. Otherwise she may fail before she gets her chance. Unless she gets a grant from somewhere or does something dodgy she will run out of resources at some point and in this context I cannot see Leonard taking advantage of her down the road or denying her choice. He is not giving her a soft option, he is giving her more time and opportunity. Heck it, if they are going to spend all their lives together, it is a good act. If not, then what have the last 7 years been about?

I am probably in the minority her but I thought Penny should have taken the job that she turned down.  Look at how some actors did low budget films before they got their break and it would have beefed up Penny's saving account too.

I do agree that the writers have to give her something soon due to it no longer being funny. I just don't know how the writers will manage it though.

I agree and I can't understand why the writers constantly do this with Leonard and Penny scenes.  I do believe that Johnny or Kaley could have done something funny to bring out a little comedy in this scene and others without inserting Sheldon.

I also have to agree with those that said the car scene was rushed and I felt the tag could have be a continuation of Leonard and Penny out driving and us seeing Leonard holding on for dear life due to Penny's driving (or something like this) instead of more Howard and Sheldon on the plane.

If they had her accept the part, then she wouldn't have been forced to go back to TCF when her car died, since she would have been getting money from the movie.  This would have taken away the need of Leonard buying her the car, and taken away his demonstration of support for her.  And Penny has done a low budget film.

I know the car scene wouldn't have happen but I just want Penny to get some success under belt and a little money in her bank account.

Also don't get me wrong loved the care scene!
