Leonard And Penny Season 7 *spoiler* Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I see that logic but why do Serial Apeist 2? She even mentioned that it paid less than TCF. I understand that NCIS is a big part. I know you're better to answer this than me but it seems going from NCIS to Serial Apeist is a big step down. Wil Wheaton did the movie but he made his money from Stand by Me and other roles I'm sure he's living off that comfortably. The same can't be said for Penny.

Which is why she takes SA2. Getting parts is not a linear thing. There are a lot of starts and stops. For instance, prior to November of last year, my daughter had three shows in a row with lead or co-lead roles. In November, she took a role in the ensemble. She didn't get anything else for the time frame, and, as Wil says, "…you have to pay the bills". Acting history is littered with people who turned down roles, thinking they were beneath them, and turns out, if they would have taken them, they may have had enough money, or the role turned into something else that would have allow them to continue their pursuit of their career.

What if Mayim had decided that auditioning for a part that only had five lines was beneath her with a resume that contained Beaches and Blossom?

Part of the problem is where was all this before this season. She realized this now. Mayim with Beaches and Blossom was much younger than Penny is now. It seems Penny in a state of urgency. She's not getting any younger.. There was how many years in between apeist 1 and 2? When she came to California she was 18? Now she is 28. No one is hoping that she becomes successful more than me but how realistic is that?

you know what would be nice knowing WTF after Sheldon foamed the board.

Hehehehe, there's a lot of those WTF moments I would love to see. Explaining those WTF moments are part of the reason I write Fan Fic.

Well, considering how badly she misunderstood how the business worked, is it really surprising it took her a while to realize it?

You missed the point. What if, because she had Beaches and Blossom on her resume, Mayim decided not to do the audition for TBBT, because she felt it was beneath her to have to audition for only five lines? That is the same as you thinking SA2 is a step down, after getting a part on NCIS(cut or not).

There was how many years in between apeist 1 and 2? When she came to California she was 18? Now she is 28.

That's not her fault. She can't control production dates.

No one is hoping that she becomes successful more than me but how realistic is that?

You do realize that Jim's first film/screen credit was in 2002, when he was 29 years old, right?

There have been plenty people in acting that had their breaks after 28, Jane Lynch, Harrison Ford, and Gene Hackman come to mind, they were all over 30 when they made it big.

This guy has been trying for years to make it big.  He even worked with Oscar winner Octavia Spencer before she made it big.  He's over 40 and finally got his big break a few years ago but if you look at his resume you can see how many bit parts he did leading up to it.

There are plenty of people in the business that made it after 30.  Penny still has her looks and we know she can act from that part in "A Streetcar called Desire", so she had just as much a chance as other people.  She just has to apply for parts that require pretty 25-30 year olds.  Probably no more "Beach Blanket Bingo" parts for her, but there are still a lot of other parts.

I always thought it would be funny if she got a commercial where she plays a mom to some young children.  She could be happy about the job, but after a while she would just look at Leonard and ask, "Leonard do you think I look old?"

Heck, look at the cast of Glee.  Most of them are much older than their high school/college counterparts.

I can see her doing a Sandra Bullock-type wacky mom.

We were watching Modern Family and the two wives in that show are older than 30, but I don't remember them doing anything that much in the business until this show made them big items.

So Penny is definitely not to old, she still has the looks and that is one of the most important things, along with her acting, which the show implies is pretty good too.

She could get a recurring part in a sitcom, like Leslie Winkle's part in the first half of the show.  Not a huge part, but at least steady money, every so often.  Maybe she could a recurring commercial part.

I was actually thinking earlier that I could see Penny as something reminiscent of Flo from Progressive. Certainly a star in her own light, looking at the business they've gotten as a result of her commercials.

It's not just Flo.  I'm sure most of the US based people will recognize these seven actors    While becoming star of commercials wasn't the goal of any of them, the amount of money they are making is really amazing.

Trivia: Jonathan Goldsmith, aka The Most Interesting Man in the World, played a crewman (uncredited) in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Corbomite Maneuver." Live long and prosper, my friends.

I would love to see Penny get a little bit of success so that when Sheldon puts her down for being just an 'Actress', she can come back and say she makes more money then him.

I never forgave Sheldon for telling her she should have taken the porn job.

I really thought Sheldon saying several times that Penny should cut Leonard loose in the beginning of the episode really terrible and reminded me of cruel Sheldon, like in the sweater episode.  There was no reason for him to say that, it didn't impact him, he was just being an ass, some friend.  I sort of wished Penny would have defended Leonard, instead of ignore Sheldon's remarks, like last year when Sheldon told her to break Leonard's heart and she told him no, she loves him.

The bear remark by Penny was sort of cutting too, but at least Leonard had a good comeback and he made a snide remark back to her later when he was commenting to Amy.  This acting like a bickering married couple is getting a little old.  When they team up against Sheldon it is cute, but some of the remarks they make to each other make me want to say  WTF.

I don't like that the ads on Facebook keep trying to fuel the Shenny. When you actually watch the episode, they are actually sniping at each other.

The real point is that in the beginning, Penny is walking out of Leonard's room in the morning. Regardless of anything else, it is clear they sleep together frequently, if not every night. I do agree that the "old married couple" snarking is getting old. I have sneaking suspicion that they are marking time with Penny and Leonard, as they isn't much they can do to move the relationship forward without something really big happening. They may mark time until next season, but I sort of don't think so. As Tensor and others have mentioned, nothing is happening until the next Professor Proton episode.

Tonight was clearly the Sheldon show, but a pretty big one. He's drinking, abandoning string theory, and kissing Amy. I very much enjoyed the way they played up the scene with him waking up hungover with the geology textbook.

Well, I have a few....

Amy will break up with Sheldon, but he won't realize it.

Leonard will break up with Sheldon for at least a couple episodes.

We meet Sheldon's Meemaw.

Sheldon will request kissing lessons from Penny, so he gets it right with Amy

Penny quits the cheesecake factory.

William Shatner will quest star.

Professor Proton will go to that large hadron collider in the sky.

Leonard and Penny will be in exactly the same place most of the season, with a cliffhanger breakup threat at the end. [Priya/Alex/???]

Well I caught up with last few episodes last night and there isn't much change to the shows dynamics..

I wonder why Leonard's name comes up first in the credits because now a days(for a long time) his role is a pure supporting character stuff... no story no stuff....just a dull boring character...a punchbag for Sheldon and Penny .......... never gets any comeuppance....

Oh and I wish Penny would show half or even quarter of the patience and affection of what she shows towards Sheldon to Leonard.
Stuart said Penny bought Leonard out his shell....well lately I have seen her mostly put him down but never ever try to encourage him..... there was slight hope in the table episode...but the ending clearly showed that was not the case...initially it was all for herself and in the end she felt sorry for Sheldon ...who cares about Leonard right....

just read the latest taping report...no surprises there...Penny is pissed at Leonard...runs off with Sheldon...... and is going to give Leonard a watch brought from the money she took/borrowed/stole from his purse...... and Leonard being pathetic of course has no problem with it....

Oh, man.

I have to say, I didn’t really like the episode last night.

Leonard continues to be minimized by Sheldon (Sheldon with his ‘you’re talking about Leonard’ and ‘shake hands and cut him loose’ running commentary and Penny fared not much better with her ‘bear’ statement) and the writers are not having him stand up for himself to either of them. And there was the last episode where Sheldon referred to Leonard as a lump of clay with neither Penny or Leonard responding. Very disappointing.

And our next episode, from reading the taping report, isn’t going to be much better (for me). It has a whole Shenny flavor (to me) that I find irritating. We have Penny saying to Leonard (again) that he doesn’t support her (this is after he buys her car so she can to auditions and doesn’t have to return to TCF and got Wil to comfort her after she is worried about her career choices) and takes off with Sheldon to dinner and the psychic.

This season has had little return on my Lenny investment. Rubbing on another’s arms, sitting under a blanket on the sofa, and a box of saved mementos just isn’t cutting it for me. And from reading the reports on The Proton Transmogrification, I feel as if my Awww! moments will come from the Leonard and Sheldon exchanges, nothing with Penny and more joking/half-hearted/ill-timed/failed proposals. And now TPTB have three more years to stall and drag this out. Yea.

So now we have two unknown shows left in this season to tape. I truly hope one of them has something significant for Lenny because I find myself getting well and truly disenfranchised.

I think you may be making a little too much out of this. Leonard sort of defended the bear line with the salmon line. Penny seemed to laugh. In the upcoming episode it doesn't appear that Penny says directly that Leonard doesn't support her. At least that's how I read it. It also appeared Leonard seemed happy to be with Bernie/Amy rather than Sheldon/Penny. In Proton Leonard and Penny seemed to be discussing death and having somewhat of a "deep" discussion. I actually liked the way he tricked her in to proposing twice and said no only to her original proposal. I know it doesn't happen often but it seems he go the better of her in this part of the story. The Leonard/Sheldon hug may be interesting to some but not me personally. I'm not sure what people wanted to happen this season with Lenny with Penny quitting her job and finally totally concentrating on acting. The whole thing in the upcoming episode was because of her acting. I mean do you really think this season with Lenny was going to be non stop sex, getting engaged/married and having a kid? As you said there is two more episodes maybe you will feel better in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, I thought the bear banter was a cute, jokey moment between the two of them and they seemed comfortable together in their scenes. They teamed up to rib Sheldon, in a light hearted way (ventriloquist scene). The Proton ep. we will see some good moments between them, and I'm looking forward to the last couple episodes.

Leonard is treading water. I don't think they are drowning him, just drowning him out. Was he even there this episode (7.20)? But I can say the same for Amy in this one too, so thats maybe ok. Disenfranchised is a good way of putting it. But it's nice that Penny definitely is banging Leonard, not Sheldon, even though she only ever talks amicably to Sheldon, not Leonard.

edit: I just saw the pic of Sheldon and Penny at dinner together. WTF? A bit of Shelly on the side? My suspension of disbelief is grinding along the freeway, throwing sparks. What is going on? Anything can happen.

I know, the show is so concerned about Sheldon loosing his focus, but Leonard spent last summer working for Hawking and nothing was made much of it.  I can't really say anything bad about addressing Penny's career this season, because that has been long overdue.  You know throughout the show, if Leonard has something bad happening to him everybody tells him to 'Buck Up' or makes fun of him.  He gets treated by his friends no better that he was treated by the horrible family that raised him and that woman who calls herself his mother.  However, whenever Sheldon has problems, it is all poor baby for him, and all the girls, especially Penny, all try to comfort him.  I get sick of that big whining baby, let him figure it out himself sometimes, I actually enjoyed him getting fired in the earlier season, of course his mother had to fix it for him then too.

Leonard working on the north sea was never about Leonard. It was just a plot device to get Leonard out the way and have Sheldon jealous, Sheldon sad, Sheldon feeling cheated and everyone else to feel sorry for him.......

As I said before the Leonard character is just for support stuff (has been for a long time)....and a punch bag for Sheldon and Penny...

As for Penny not showing any compassion or sympathy or understanding towards Leonard...its not something new....

for me the one the worst moments on the show was in the season 3 booty call episode....Penny cruelly shoves Leonard out of her door ...shows no ounce of sympathy....even though it was mostly her fault.....imagine if this happened with Sheldon ....she would have been pouring her heart out for Sheldon....

And of course Leonard always acting spineless and pathetic with both Sheldon and Penny does not endear him to anyone .... a thing which I don't think the writers even care about....

Season 6 - All Leonard character had to do was to - Wait for Penny to mature

Season 7 - wait for Penny to succeed in acting...

Season 8 - If Penny gets big success...I can see her dumping Leonard if he gets jealous of her probably kissing a co-star...saying enough of this crap.....its not much OOC though.....see her attitude towards Leonard and his job in the episode where Raj says in the future she was a star...Leonard has to follow her like a puppy dog.....which I think when threatened I think he would really do that....given his pathetic nature...
