Plimpton. Hmm. I guess this means you are calling her a whore? I second that. Haha.

No no no multiplied by a British billion. I would never say that. My gag was about how she wrote. But now you've made me explain it. I have to leave board chagrined. Hehe. (temporarily)

I didn't think. Not unusual.

Haha relax. You weren't lying. She is a whore. Just like Penny, apparently.

Ha. Well. That's like in the hitchhiker s guide. The ships hung in the air, exactly like bricks don't.

She was a whore (you don't know how difficult that is for me to write) exactly like Penny isn't.

Cheers.

(Not sure if that's better or worse.. Argh)

No, it's for Plimpton... I mean TW. Just trying to help her with her writing. But you're welcome.

Hey, this is the Leonard & Penny thread, not the TW slutty writing thread! Ha ha. Yup, me and Penny, both alcoholic sluts. It's a great life.

Not necessarily, it's more of a puzzled expression, as if she's wondering if he is right and trying to add everything up.

It was a puzzled expression.  I do not see how one can accept Sheldon's conclusions which seem to be based on assumption.  We do not see Penny dating a lot of different men in season 2.   We see her with the guy that she kisses while Leslie kisses Leonard, but she does not sleep with him.  She also dates Stuart twice but that never leads to sex.  As for season 4 we never see her going out with anyone, the only reference to her possible dating is during her conversation with Sheldon's mother where she references some encounters but no actual sex.  However, even in that conversation by her tone it is really uncertain just how active she was.  If anything, during season 4 she seemed to be a very-self reflective about her life and her feelings towards Leonard and men and relationships in general.  However, one can also pick up a little of this in season 1 where she was already starting the wrestle with her actions.

The only major problem that I have seen for her, especially in season 4, was a growing abuse of alcohol.  The climax for this for me was in the scene where she was passed out while playing twister.  Like others in this forum, I do not believe being drunk excuses ones behavior, in fact being drunk can lead people to make very bad decisions.

Overall, she seems to be a young lady trying to learn from her mistakes and searching for some direction in her life.  In her relationship with Leonard I think that she is finally learning what true love really is.  At the end of season 1 she wanted to find a gut who was "nice and honest and who actually cares about me", in Leonard she is seeing that he is what she has been looking for.

I do not think she is the "slut" that Sheldon implies.  I do not know why we have to assume that Sheldon is always right because he is not.  As for the incident between Raj and Penny, I did not like it.  IMO  Raj as bares most of the responsibility, however I do think it needs to be left behind.

I love that your not denying it. Embrace it. That's the way forward. I suppose it would be hard to deny when you include things like giving oral to fries in your fanfiction. Only you could come up with that you unimaginative slapper! Ha!

I suggest that you revisit the episode where Penny went on the first date between Sheldon and Amy, during which Sheldon explain his calculations on how many men Penny had slept with, I believe that the number was in the high 30's, and it was obvious from her facial expression that Sheldon was pretty close to being right if not on the money.   I am not criticizing Penny per se, but Amy did call her a skank when she heard the number.   Then there was the episode where the ladies were going out and Penny said the they would have to go a long way to find a bar where no on there hadn't seen her naked.   It is fairly obvious that Penny has had a great many more partners then Leonard.

What I took away from her expression/reaction was that she hadn't been keeping track, and Sheldon's number shocked her. I believe she was thinking 'It couldn't be THAT MANY, could it?'. Since then the only two men we know she's been with (I don't count Raj because it was just drunken comfort on her part and they never actually had coitus) were Zac (Season 4 Episode 10:

Bernadette: He’s really cute. How do you know him?

Penny: Oh, we went out a couple of times.

Amy: I’m often flummoxed by current slang. Does went out mean had intercourse?

Bernadette: Yes.

Penny: No, no. But in this case, yes.

Amy: Interesting. And was it not satisfactory?

Penny: No, it was great. He just didn’t really challenge me on an intellectual level.)

And of course Leonard. So even if wrong, Sheldon's number seems to have caused Penny to think about her past actions and (along with missing Leonard) modify her behavoure.

Ahhhhhhhh, the explanation as to why I like you so much.

I aim to please.

I can embrace it because my twitter bestie is equally slutty and attends AA meetings with me, so I know I'm not alone, and Penny is not alone. <3 The alcoholic sluts gotta stay strong with them french fries.

I'm so glad I see those tweets, these things wouldn't make any sense otherwise. French Fries. LOL

You have me, and 'Penny' has 'Kim' ;) Ha! AA meetings...

Hello. My name is Molly. (Hey Molly)

Today i drank a Budweiser because there was nothing else in the fridge and i was really thirsty. I had planned on having an alcohol free weekend, but the temptation was too strong. My liver is disappointed in me, but it tasted good so im not sorry. I also find it helps me write, as long as i dont go crazy and have the dreaded third bottle.

Although, it is tempting... Who needs a liver anyway? ;)

I was indeed being facetious. However, there was a certain amount of sincerity in the joke. Either one uses derogatory terms to evaluate people's sex lives or one does not. It is an all-or-nothing sort of business; the moral judgment cannot be switched on and off, depending on who is being looked at.

If Penny is a "slut", then Leonard is a "ho". If Leonard is not a "ho", then Penny is not a "slut". Consistency is everything.

I, for one, simply cannot muster the energy to care about what consenting adults, either real of fictional, do with other consenting adults, no matter how many of them are involved. Maybe there is some cultural dimension to that : I think my people tried to give a flying toss about that sort of things once, then one of us got a headache and we stopped altogether.

On a related note, we gave the world lingerie, sex during the day and the tongue*. As Sheldon would say : "you're welcome, mankind".

*Summary of the French's contribution to humanity courtesy of Mr. Bill Maher.

You are absolutely right. But this is precisely why I would love to see Leonard try to make sense of it.

Leonard is a scientist; his entire life is devoted to looking at things and wondering how they came to be and why they are as they are. He is not someone who simply observes and accepts reality; he drags reality into his lab and tears it open until it tells him what he wants to hear. Above all, he is used to things making sense.

Yet here he is. Completely in love with a woman who, on paper at least, should be the last person in the universe with whom he could hope to have a successful relationship (and vice versa). And she loves him. And their couple works. It is the emotional equivalent to an object falling upwards !

I for one would be delighted to see Leonard struggle with this oddity. Not just because it would make sense considering his background but also because it would be a great opportunity for the writers to come up with their own version of a famous trope : the love explanation (different from the love declaration). In most films/shows, TPTB pull a "I love you and your flaws" (e.g. When Harry met Sally : "I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich, etc."); in others, the writers prefer the "I love you and I don't care about your flaws" school of thought (e.g. Some Like it Hot : "Nobody's perfect").

Which option would TBBT writers go for ? Which would be more in tune with Leonard's analytical tendencies ? And, above all, would Leonard, the man who understands the holographic principle and can make it sound like a poem, the guy who works with/for Hawking on determining why and how the universe came to be, admit that he may very well never know exactely why he fell in love with the woman across the hall ? Could his marvelous intellect be defeated by a cheesecake-scented goddess with a 'tude and an inability to cook pasta ?

I think there would be great potential for such a scene.

I believe the reason Leonard hasn't drug his love into his lab and torn it open, is because that is just what he does with almost everything else. He separates those things he enjoys from his science and just enjoys them without analysis (a way to decompress from the pressure of the lab). He was first attracted to Penny because of her looks "Our babies will be smart and beautiful" With him providing the 'smart' component. I believe that as time passed he realized that Penny was more than a 'pretty face' and brought many positive aspects to the mix or as I've said before they fill each others gaps. Something else to consider is that Leonard was about the age when he wanted to start a family, and seeing Penny kick-started that. From the show we know he hadn't dated much (prior to Penny) and now he's dating a lot more in the past few years (he's had dates we haven't seen)

Season 5 episode 9

Penny: Oh, it’s not a date, Leonard. It’s just a man and a woman hanging out, and not having sex at the end of the night.

Leonard: Sounds like most of my dates.

They are brilliant tweets.

Although, it is tempting... Who needs a liver anyway? ;)

I drank a cider last night after work with the rest of the staff because we felt like it. Now I'm having a Kopparberg because, well, why not. Ugh, the group will be so mad at us... we're bad AA'ers. Surprisingly my liver is actually not that bad... go me!

Can you link THAT thread?  :fi_lone_ranger:

That thread is my wonderfully crazy Lenny-shipping brain (please be respectful of the alcoholic non-memories) ;)

i would like there to be a little less Penny hate. Its really starting to get tiring constantly coming on here and feeling the need to jump to her defense, especially in a thread that is supposed to support her and Leonard. Not just Leonard.

Hear! Hear!

I think that thread could also be your messed up twitter feed. #hotdog #sausage #thebigo #sexwounds

I think i'll stop, those hastags could go on for a while. Plus, like i have said before, this is a respectable forum, no need to drag the twitter mess into it. ;)

So yeah... How cute are Leonard and Penny? Totally cute right? Yeah.

That is what the Shipping Lanes is for really. These negative discussions about Penny here may be contrary to Tripper's guidance. This thread has one of the blue hats hidden under the spoiler hat. People should promote that, by making a scene . :) or something funnier.
