Leonard And Penny Season 7 *spoiler* Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Sheldon's been on the edge for a while now, Leonard was merely the twig that tripped him over the train shaped cliff edge.

As for Amy ? Penny asking him about him and Amy getting physical is all you need to know about Sheldon's feelings for Amy

i.e. Getting Physical with Amy = A possibility. Something he'd not have admitted seasons earlier. Moving in with Amy always

freaks him out, because he cares a lot more about her then he lets on. In fact he treats Amy in a similar way he treats Leonard or how he

did a few seasons ago. However the main focus will be on Penny and Leonard taking their relationship to the next step and

Sheldon not being ready for it. May take him a while to get his head wrapped around the idea. Amy will be on the back burner until the Lenny

change is dealt with by Sheldon. Which means a lot of kicking and screaming before he ultimately accepts it and gains a bit of maturity.

Swans ?

I thought it was the comic book store burning down that was the final blow.

Without re-reading the taping reports, if I think about the order in which things happened you have:

1.  String theory is no longer a good option for him

2.  Lenny gets engaged

3.  Cal Tech won't let him change to another field

4.  He and Leonard discuss the living situation with Leonard suggesting Sheldon could move across the hall

5.  Amy offers to move in with him

6.  The comic book store burns down

Looking back on the second half of this season, I find it to be centered around Lenny instead of Sheldon, which has made the show more interesting. You could even say ever since Penny found out she was married the season has been mostly about them. The rest of the season was dedicated towards comedy, which of course is the only purpose of the caricature of a person we call Sheldon. So if you wanted funny you wanted to see Sheldon, if you wanted interesting you wanted Lenny. I think the writers are having more and more problems writing Sheldon because they gave him a girlfriend, but they forgot he is not a real boy, so Amy and the Shamy has suffered. However that has allowed the interesting story of Lenny to flourish in the second half of the season. Lenny needs to progress, that is their purpose in the show, them needing to get and be together, so we see those smart and beautiful babies at the end, Sheldon just needs to stay Sheldon, the self-important clown to give us laughs.

The joke is that rabbits are portrayed as having a very active sex life.

Swans often mate for life....

It's a season of two halves - Sheldon's life changing for the worse (from Sheldon a fan of things staying the same and never changing) vs Penny and Leonard finally getting to a point where they could ask

each other to get married and take the next steps in their adventure/relationship. Those two halves will likely collide in season 8.

You can never really separate Sheldon, Penny and Leonard, they are the 3 main characters after all.

From Watership Down IIRC...one rabbit means a hundred and one (lots of smart and beautiful babies?)

Disgusted and Hokie... Its like there is a giant rock fallen on the highway and everyone is standing around discussing how to move the rock. No one really worries that much about what happens to the rock after but everyone is kibitzing about how the road crew is going to move the damn thing out of the way so they can get on with the enjoyable part of the road trip.

Gelignite is apparently not an option. :)

...and Taperoo, I'd say the secondary mission of the show is move the rock. He needs to have somewhere else to go because Uncle Shelly can't be be a live-in boarder. So plotting ways to get him out of the house is a legitimate pursuit.

Does Penny now come under Leonard's health insurance? Lucky he works for a secular institution or they would need both rooms in 4A pretty quickly. :)

That was good. Better than the report.

It was not better than the report. It was better than a lot of peoples interpretations of the report.

I really enjoyed Leonard and Penny this episode, they acted perfectly after getting engaged last episode.  They were thinking the same way, close to each other and talking like commited adults to each other.  I hope this is what we get in season 8 with them, because it is really nice.  What surprised me in this episode is how much and how seriously they talked about the living situation between Leonard and Penny.   Penny was even saying something needed to now change, which is refreshing because after last seasons failed move in, her now seems to want to live with him, this is a big change.  I am excited about season 8, as Lenny works towards the next step, marriage.

Penny and Leonard were even better then usual tonight, although I felt that Penny was the most adult of the gang with Leonard being a close second.   It really showed what  a good couple they are.   I still don't think that Sheldon will really move out.  As far as that goes, I think that it will turn out that Sheldon had never left the train station.  OOOORRRRR, he could travel the who country on trains,   come up with a new insight to string theory as a result of his travels,  and he will feel more adventuresome because of it and will be willing to move into Penny's old apartment.....nah.

It would be nice if they kept (as much as possible) Leonard and Penny like this for most of the season. Though you could tell that this was the 'honeymoon' phase of the engagement, when Penny didn't react to Leonard's comments about her cooking (or Penny knows she isn't a good cook). On another note I thought Beverly looked like she'd aged a bit since last season.

What was with the jogging-type jacket and her voice?  She didn't sound as haughty as normal and I cannot picture Beverly wearing that kind of jacket and looking like she did.  She's much more polished than that.

Maybe she was in the middle of shooting for her regular show, and she had on her costume for that under the jacket.

So, now that the season is over I can crawl out of the dark, unspoiled corner and congratulate all Lenny's on the engagement of your favorite couple.

I get it, I don't have to like it, but I get it....... 80

I guess I have a secret hope that Jim will do something to piss Chuckles off, and then Sheldon's visits to the train station will be filled with drama..............

What I liked was Lenny walking off hand in hand and leaving S to deal with his issues. Nice symbolic touch, hopefully will continue.

I'm pleased Penny didn't turn into the porn star and Leonard into the skeevy boyfriend that some of the cohort anticipated at the beginning of the year. I was so expecting that to happen. (NOT).

Professionally a lot went on this year for Penny. I think she is well on her way to becoming a jobbing actor, if she wants. They have a couple of threads lying around for her that they can pick up, now they have settled the L/P question. I'd be hopeful that they would not dead-end her all the time. Leonard says he wants to give her the life she deserves, and when you think about it, things have been pretty damn marginal for her for seven years. One way they could now show she is happy is to let her put on some weight for a while. It was hysterical in Battlestar Galactica when Jamie Bamber put on a fat suit during the time they thought they were safe. Though they did that flashback in Friends, so maybe not. Still, funny in my mind.

We didn't get much science this season that I can remember. Other things that are still open for Leonard are tenure and the Hawking trip.

Sheldon did them a big favour by bailing, because we can imagine them entrenching themselves at home while he is gone. How long his absence I must wonder. And was that the first conversation with Penny's mum and did she not sound a bit unsupportive? Hmmm.

Well, overall I'm very pleased with how things turned out. The Raj thing can just wither and die now. Maybe if anyone ever wants to go there it gets it's own thread.

Yes, not that you mention it I am pleased too.

I also agree I think Sheldon did everyone (including himself) a favor by getting away. Considering the life Amy has had I am sure she can manage with Sheldon being gone even if it is for a few months. Also, this avoids unnecessary fighting and things being said that are hard to take back later.  And of course Leonard and Penny can concentrate on their engagement instead of dealing with Sheldon in his room with a dozen cats.

Loved that too. They came in as two separate individuals concerned for their child, the need for change was confirmed, and then they left as one, holding hands symbolising it was their turn to be the centre of attention together without Sheldon. Will the freedom from Sheldon last past early season 8?...........mmmmmm?!

That's my number one hope in season 8. Don't start it all over again that she is a failure and she gives up hope of being anything other than Leonard's wife. She can act, give her a steady job so we see her do more than improve her spaghetti cooking and drinking wine with the girls around the breakfast bar talking wedding plans. Her acting career provides lots of plot lines. Nothing to do Penny doesn't.

You know it would be funny if Penny got a job as a spokesperson for Priceline.  I would like to see Shatner do a guest spot on the show.  It would really be funny if Shatner hit on her.
