Leonard And Penny Season 7 *spoiler* Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Yeah. Well. Amy.

She needs to take a trip too. But not until after Leonard and Penny get back from their engagement trip to Tahiti. Lol. Surely they are due some vacation time, now that Penny is not working. Hehehe.

Hey, how about Penny appearing on Hawaii Five-Oh? The two of them could combine Penny's work, with a vacation. Hmmmmmm, since I'm struggling with "Chew Toy" right now, maybe I should look into a one shot for this.

Far be it for me to suggest a gratuitous bikini scene, but they do have some interesting natural formations, lovely climate and oceanic wildlife. And a sunburned Leonard has to be hysterical. Maybe you'll just have to skip the bikini all together. Because we don't want to be gratuitous. :)

I disagree, I think a bikini scene would be intigrial to the plot. Whatever it may be... wait there's a plot? won't that just get in the way of the oil covered fight between Penny and Grace Park?

As long as that's filmed without the bikinis, so as not to be gratuitous. And without monkey hair. Or maybe just leave that in.

Then call "action".

Hey, "Serial Apist III" writes itself. Lookout Vince.

I'll make sure no bikinis are worn or harmed in the writing of the story.

That's fine. They can reenact Johnny Weissmuller's "Tarzan and his Mate". Pre Hayes code Hollywood. Somehow that got broadcast here unexpurgated one Sunday afternoon. Bikini free. Made me a fan. Anyway, now Penny can play Jane AND Cheetah. And they have a Johnny handy too.

To answer Squidley's query upthread, i think her future looks promising.

For a point of reference you may have to look at how they wrote Rachel in Friends. She was a waitress like Penny, but only for Three seasons, then she found a passion for Fashion. Problem with Penny acting is a very risky career choice, many pitfalls, it comes down to alot of lucky. Being a very attractive blonde girl unless your Leonard haha, to producers and casting execs your just another blonde girl, so shes clearly had that fear of Type Casting ala Barb Sublim. Rachel also had alot of female guidance and support from Monica and Phoebee, its only since S4 she has had any real female support. Most likely her "cheerleader" type Friends werent real friends. So with the fear of being type casted, she settled for her easy lifestyle, it also helped she had the nerds next door to fall back on when it came to using their tv to watch Americas next top model to using their wi fi haha. I also think Penny does not posses any passion for acting, but stardom. So by S2 it was clear that was nt going to happen, she diddnt push herself enough. So any chance of anything she grabbed like commercials, Ncis (and being cut out), Serial Apiest. And now at 28 she is reevaluating her priorities and life choices. I think it has been pretty slack from the writers that it took Seven seasons to give Penny any real character devolopment. I gdt they think a pretty girk next door working as a waitress struggling as an actress is realistic, and it is. But after seven seasons not so much, it only took Friends writers three seasons, she quit being a waitress got a job at Blooming Dales or Maceys sorry its like 15 yrs ago lol. Then got a job at Ralph Lauren. Then a job offer in Paris obviousley. The writing was alot more progressive in Friends.

I too agree Leonards the real genius, the guy deserves an noble prize for surviving Sheldon cooper, i mean watch S3 flashback, most of his roommates diddnt last a second, yet Leonard has lasted nearly ten years. I too agree considering the amount of mistakes, miscalculations, collegues who have bested him ala Wrinkle Kripke. You look at s6 Sheldon was disfondant because Kripkes work was much better. I dont discount for one second Sheldons a genius, but he has yet to show the required application to back his iq up. In his own mind and world hes this gens newton, so he constantly undermines and discredits Leonard, as does Bev for his lack of Original Findings. When truth be told Leonard has had more recent success. Its also bote wirthy Sheldon i presume is not easy to work with, he prob has several warning, disiciplinaries on his record, hes prob really obboxious to work with. I remember bk in S1 that asian kid who was even more of a genius then Sheldon, he was even more obnoxious then ever. As i recall he decided ro temporarily quit physics, and i think decided to enter politics in russia lol or something. So many times Sheldons threatned hes really exposed, as a genius only in his own mind.

Some of Sheldon's best work came about through collaboration with either Leonard or Raj. Apart from what we saw in Season One, Leonard has tended to avoid collaborating with him. The best reason for this is that two people living together shouldn't also work together. I collaborated with my roommate in graduate school, and it actually drove us apart as friends. Switching places with Penny might have positive career implications, as Leonard could get some professional as well as personal distance from Sheldon, and be open to collaborate again.

When one considered that each major relationship upgrade occurred between Leonard and Penny after Leonard was gone for a while, it would be good for Sheldon to learn to value Leonard more. I believe that the on effect of the North Sea trip is that Penny realized how important Leonard was to her, and how much Sheldon leaned on and exploited Leonard. In retrospect, the major theme of Season Seven was the gradual increase in Penny's possessiveness of Leonard. Penny proposed two or three times (depending on how you count the proposal game) and I believe all of them were serious. The first one had her drunk, and I think that the reasons she allowed it to be classified as not serious was because of her drunkenness and the fact that Leonard didn't enthusiastically accept. I believe she was serious, but decided when she sobered up that she'd rather propose sober, and more sure of a positive reaction. Who would have thought that it would get to the point that she would have to argue with Leonard about her seriousness and her need for him? She basically said the only thing she needed to be happy was Leonard. Everything else was secondary. Having Penny come to that realization means that Sheldon is truly and rightly screwed. Penny is going to fight for Leonard, and she's clearly stated that In her opinion Sheldon is capable of taking care of himself.

I complained (imagine that) about the lack of Leonard-centric and L/P stories over this season and they ended up giving me exactly what I hade hoped for. Even though Penny's occupation is not settled, she still has made progress. TWO movie credits and perhaps some notoriety (for being sacked by an obviously disengaged twit). If she strikes a chord with audiences and the movie has some legs, she could get noticed. Her career is on the up - compared to where she was last year.

And Leonard should have knocked Sheldon's head off for the comments about virginity, the Titanic and countless men. That's not funny on any level, so what that about? Why does he get to say things that are so misogynistic and contemptuous? Its not like Sheldon is boldly saying something everyone else is thinking. Its a minor disappointment to me that Sheldon has not been stomped on for these things. It took a long time for Leonard to show a little backbone with Penny. Yet, he still folds for Sheldon.

The thing that made most sense to me of all the season was Penny at the station, saying let Sheldon go.

Penny has been possessive of Leonard before. Walking in 4A in her underwear to get coffee the morning after Leonard and Dr Stephanie announce their relationship. Interrupted Priya and Leonard's date, place her hand on his back, ate off his plate, and drank out of his glass.

She very protective of Raj when she learned who

Lucy was.

It will be interesting S8 now that she is engaged or fully committed to Leonard.

I agree about Sheldon's rudeness. I was glad when they let him continue to run away after his temper

tantrum.

That's the reason why Sheldon gets away with murder cause in the real world he get his head kicked in every time he opens his mouth. And Sheldon gets away with those inappropriate comments because leonard never tells the genius he Fing out of order and can't say those things to penny. but penny is no different cause she let's it ride as well so i guess the genius doesn't think he is doing anything wrong cause he needs to be educated on protocols.

Like I said a while back, they need to recreate the Cheers episode where Clif got zapped every time he said something obnoxious.

Now just imagine Sheldon instead of Clif.

Its not just the rudeness but the agenda the "Penny bashing" speaks to, beyond the show, that irks me. It doesn't get countered when Sheldon says it. Its ok to express it, if it gets argued against, but if its not contested someone somewhere is nodding their head and saying "Right on Sheldon! They are all sluts".

Leonard just has to start arcing up. He has shown a lack of fortitude in sticking up for Penny against Proton and Sheldon. I'd like to see that attitude go up in flames as well.

I suspect that Penny and Leonard will get a lot more protective of each other, as have Howard and Bernadette. The latter called Sheldon out on his treatment of Howard. I don't think Leonard is going to stand for anyone to suggest his fiancee/wife is a slut for long and clearly Penny expects him to defend her. Leonard just needs to man up and defending Penny against all would be a great place to stay. The problem is that nerds get used to avoiding conflict.

Some of the things Sheldon has said and done to Penny, in the real world would have gotten Sheldon's ass beat long ago.  The time when he was trying to condition her with chocolates, was funny at the time, but when you think about it, Sheldon was serious and that is just creepy, especially when he suggest electric shock for her.  The time he seriously asked her why she didn't take a porn job because her career was so bad, was beyond cruel, that he was actually serious.  Plus all the times he has inferred she wasn't very intellegent, likening her to a monkey, were beyond despicable.  I sometimes want Leonard to just deck him, but it will never happen in the show.

Sheldon is the anti-hero of the show, the "monster". He constantly treats his loved ones poorly, and they let him get away with it because he just does not understand what he says is innaprpriate. I think I recall was it Penny said the part of his brain that is susposed to work is just not their haha, I think she worded it differently, but maybe someone can find the quote. The same happened in 3x01 when Sheldon blurted out Lenny's first "time" was not succesfull, it took him ages to figure out what he said was wrong, and even after all that all he said was "Oh it was innapropriate to discuss Leonard and Penny's sex life in front of them, ohhh great now I can eat" He doesent seem to require the ability to be sensitive to other peoples feelings if it does not involve him, he lacks the required resoulotion techniques. Most likely he has been allowed to get away with his behaviour all his life, and all Leonard has been doing is enabling his behaviour. Penny has been the only one since the pilot who has not put up with his crap, I remember in S2 when Sheldon kicked her out, she even told Leonard, you can't let Sheldon keep walking or over you, if you do he is just going to think his behaviour is okay. I think I remember in S5 was it, Leonard had something going on and Sheldon was like "Does it involve me?" Leonard" "No" Sheldon" "Then suffer in silence" lol, their you go.

I don't think Sheldon does these things or says these awful things because he is a bad bad person, he just doesent know any better, his go to excuse for justifying most of the stuff he says is "Im not crazy, my mother got me tested" Well maybe your mother should of got an second opinion lol. He just doesent know any better, and his entire life he has been allowed to get away with it, he still is, Amy even lets him get away with it. Particularly with Amy if she wants progress she needs to let Sheldon know, its not okay to pick and choose when he wants to treat Amy as a girlfriend. So not to place full responsibity on Sheldon, but maybe the real problem with Lenny in the past has been Sheldon. He inadvertently planted a idea in Pennys head, she wasen't smart enough for Leonard, which ultimately feeded her already insecurities. He see's everything as something to analyse or something as logical, he doesn't understand that its not always as simple as that, because he is not built that way. He can be brutally honest, and because he doesent realize what he says regardless if its true or not, but theirs a time and a place, he just does not no any better. Calling Penny fat one episode, then suggesting Penny should do porn, he is aware of what he is saying, he constantly emotionally distorts Penny, and definates her character. And if it continues I think its high time, Leonard sticks up for her like he did in that chocolate episode. He see's human behaviour as something he needs to improve, just because Penny does not possess any real education, or not to his standard, he see's it as a problem he must fix, its really insulting, even to some fans who feel not good enough to watch this show because they don't have the required degree.

Bernadette said it in The Hawking Excitation -"Sheldon doesn't know when he's being mean because the part of his brain that should know is getting a wedgie from the rest of his brain."

He has no empathy skills.  I don't know what you mean about "resolution techniques".  Could you possibly mean self-regulation?

His mother has said before she wishes she'd taken him to the specialist in Houston.  I guarantee the specialist is very different from the person that actually tested him.

Doesn't mean the gang should give up. If electric shocks are good enough for Penny... LOL

He needs to be rebutted.

Yes I think I mean self-empathy, self-regulation yes, random stuff just pop in my head and I post haha. What I mean resouloution technique is that he never seems to never realize the consequences to his actions, he needs to resolve things better. Maybe the gang should do an intervention :p, What to say in conversation. When breaking news to someone that their career is a dead end, saying "Oh have you either thought of doing porn, you would be good at it?" lol is not the appropriate course of action. Sheldon I have a problem? Now is Does it involve me? No then suffer in silence the best course of action, or May I offer you a cold beverage?

IMO, the most horrible thing that Sheldon has said to Penny was in "The Friendship Turbulence", only two words. Penny calls Leonard out to the hallway and cries about the final collapse of her car and how this means the end of her hopes for a final push into acting without going back to her dead end job. Enter Sheldon to the hallway to start this dialog:

Sheldon: Leonard, would you wrap it up? We’re waiting on you.

Penny: I’m sorry, is the fact that my life’s falling apart interfering with your board game?

Sheldon: It is.

This is the biggest crisis of her life and she is turning to the man who loves her and fixes her life crisis. Sheldon, who previously had given her some BS about being "a dreamer" and understanding her ambitions, which is quite out of character for Sheldon, snaps back into character by showing that his enjoyment of a board game has higher priority then her collapsing life. Leonard ignores Sheldon and fixes Penny's problem by giving her a new car. But Sheldon's selfishness reached it's zenith this season.

This was supposed to be funny but outside of TBBT world, Penny would have expected Leonard to be picking pieces of Sheldon's hide out of his shoe.

I've always wondered two things. 1. Since it's Texas, maybe he's not crazy for there (consider they replaced George W. Bush with Rick Perry). and 2. How long after the doctor declared Sheldon 'not crazy' did he/she loose their license. To paraphrase George Carlin 'Somewhere there's the world's worst doctor, and he's seeing patients tomorrow.'

Sheldon has always done that though, even made comments how something as trivial as Romance and Leonard and Penny's love life and the rest of his friends, is as important as his game nights, or board games, or anything science fiction related. He lives in his own world and is perfectly fine with ignoring the real world, like I said he is completely insensitive and horrible because he knows no better, but I think its high time his friends stop enabling his behaviour, once he realizes his behaviour is not okay, he well stop and maybe be like that episode in Family Guy, when Peter finally treated Meg with respect, and got so obnoxious haha, with love and stuff.

If Sheldon isn't mentally ill in some way, then he is just an ass and flat doesn't care enough to attempt to understand others. He thinks he's perfect, has stated it many times even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, and is horrified that interaction with others might change his "perfection". Consider his reaction when Leonard and Penny point out how Amy has changed him. This is right after he stated that he had been molding Leonard to be a conduit for his will. This is insane.

I think it has been suggested many times that Sheldon may have aspergess, even Jim suggested this. He shows many symptons of it, either that or he is aware of his actions, and if he is then he is an ass haha.
