Leonard And Penny Season 7 *spoiler* Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I have to ask what make some believe Penny would want to move in with Leonard and Sheldon?  Isn't Penny the one that every says isn't ready to give up her independence?  Did we see how Penny reacted during the 'The Spoiler ....' episode at the thought of living with Leonard?  Now add Sheldon into the mix and we are suppose to believe Penny wouldn't have a problem with the living situation?

The only way I could possible see L/P/S living together everything would have to be on an equal footing and I have ask when have we every seen a situation like this where Sheldon gives up anything.

As for Leonard moving out and leaving Sheldon I am one that has said that Leonard won't move out until Penny is finally ready to either live together or get married which would be more likely the last episode of the series or close to the last episode.

So true Tensor.   The most consistent motif the writers have used with Penny is her insecurity about her intelligence and judgement. It pops up constantly in several episodes a season, starting with

Sheldon has shown he is susceptible to blackmail (not to mention using it against others). Take a page from Penny and Raj and blackmail Sheldon. Perhaps threaten to hide a dirty sock in the Apt. (Raj) or mark one of his comic books (Penny) or use one of his other rage inducing loveable quirks against him.

Raj: What did you do? Did you change the contrast or brightness settings on the television?

Leonard: No.

Raj: Did you take a band aid off in front of him?

Leonard: No.

Howard: Did you buy generic ketchup, forget to rinse the sink, talk to him through the bathroom door?

Raj: Adjust the thermostat, cook with cilantro, pronounce the T in often?

Leonard: No.

Howard: Did you make fun of trains?

Threaten to do and keep doing one or more of these things and he'll cave, or move in either case problem solved.

Yeah but I don't think you are fully taking into account the pull that Amy might have in that situation.  She often takes sides with Penny and she seems to be one of the people Sheldon actually listens to.  It would also give her an opportunity to move into Penny's apartment, thus bringing them closer together.

I think the main point is that for the show to maintain it's dynamic, Leonard and Sheldon have to live together.  I just can't see it any other way.  So it leaves limited options for Leonard and Penny.  And I don't think that Leonard would really want to leave Sheldon alone unless he was sure that Sheldon would be okay.  Sheldon might be annoying (and I don't know how much I could personally stand of the character) BUT he is Leonard's friend ...

Yes, but is he Leonard's friend by choice or circumstance? Because if the latter, he can get over it.

I think when Penny is ready to live with Leonard more permanently I think he moves in with her.  He'd be right across the hall from Sheldon and be able to check on him.  It might make for some interesting stories having Sheldon be on his own although I am sure he'd finagle someone to come and wait on him though.

Not sure really but a recent interview by Johnny suggested that we may find out what binds them together.

The point I was trying to make was that in real life, P/L/S would do this, that and the other but for TBBT that's a different story.  I don't think that any time soon would they break up the dynamic of Leonard and Sheldon living together.  That's my story...

I can't imagine any scenario where Penny would sign any sort of Roommate Agreement. Recall from Stephanie that the Roommate Agreement as written has clauses for either of them living with a girl in the apartment. In "The Boyfriend Complexity" Sheldon did extensively rewrite the agreement to include Penny-specific clauses.

The only way I can see Penny moving in with the guys is, as was mentioned in last season's forum, if something happened to her place. Barring that, they will move into Penny's apartment.

How I Met Your Mother did manage to move Marshall and Lily out of the apartment the series started in, so it can be done. It does change the dynamic, and they were mostly in McClaren's anyway.

People are forgetting the fact in the Spoiler Alert EP Penny was actually fine with Leonard moving in, sure she has insecurities based on her intimacy issues, but remember she was willing to compromise at first she went along with it to make Leonard happy, I can see how that can be perceived that Penny's heart wasen't in living with Leonard, but it did show me even sub-conciousley she wasen't againgst the idea of it. I agree too though that the only way they can maintain the central premise of the show and make Leonard and Penny live together, which would be at Leonard and Sheldon's. I am one of the people who woulden't be againgst the idea of L/P/S living together again, I mean they did that in S3 Penny stayed over and lived most day's and night's at Leonard and Sheldon's, sure Sheldon was a third wheel at time's, but most of the time they functioned as equals. Even when Leonard came back in 7.02 Penny was okay with Leonard staying with her for a few day's, Penny has always been a work in progress so you cannot expect massive changes from her, but their are subtle changes that show me Penny is getting closer to get rid of her fear's of intimacy.

And that's not a bad thing, I mean she has been living on her own for a while now, so she is used to her independence, so she is not using it as an excuse, she is just simply not ready to live together at the moment, and beside's their's no rush they live across the hall from each other, they practically live together right now anyway. I said this before, before an engagement they need to be living together, they obviousley have improved tremendousley on their emotional intimacy, clearly it's their physical intimacy that has a while to go, but they well get their. As for Sheldon and Penny spending time together in the first episode, what's the big deal yes Sheldon is in a relationship with Amy, but that doesen't mean that stop all his relationship's he has had over the past seven year's, Sheldon and Penny have been neighbours and friend's for years, Leonard play's a huge part in their life's, he is the social nuclues that form's all the atoms in their lifes, so they bonded to deal with the void he left in their life's. Besides's 7.01 really emphaisized their brother-sister relationship, it was funny after all these year's, the main thing Penny and Sheldon have in common is Leonard. So I don't think being friendly with Penny or anyone else for that matter has any direct manisfested impact on his relationship with Amy, that relationship is still very much a work in progress, being intimate with Amy probably scare's him a bit, where as with Penny he see's her more as a big sister he can talk too about his fear's not that he has but he had got given the oppurtunity, so the relationship is very different.

So I don't think their was any over friendliness at all between Sheldon and Penny, they were talking about Leonard and missing him, the circumstances may have changed their closeness based on sharing thing's over their missing of Leonard, but I don't think this change's the dynamic or relationship between them at all, and nor do I think Leonard should be upset, he told Sheldon too look after Penny while he was away and that made Penny miss Leonard even more, so he is clearly not insecure about their relationship. But I guess you could argue Amy should be upset that Sheldon spent time with Penny, but 1. Amy and Penny are best friend's and 2. From a writer's stand point it was more a plot device, you have to forget about their other relationship's to make that episode work, it was about the L/P/S arch which made the show famous, so of course they are going to have a very popular arch in Penny and Sheldon to start the season off, that's all I saw it as. When Leonard returned early status quo resumed, in term's of the relationship's and dynamics, and Penny no longer needed Sheldon to miss Leonard, kinda like she no longer need's to wear the locket, she has the real thing JMO. And when it come's to Leonard and Penny finally moving in together like I said to keep the central premise they need to keep Leonard and Sheldon living together, but it's not outside of the realm's of possibilites they would break up the Leonard and Sheldon dynamic, and Sheldon would be okay with it lol maybe I'm dreaming, and Leonard moved in with Penny, and Sheldon tries to get a new roommate, maybe Raj? In S3 Leonard, Penny, and Sheldon lived together most of the time, and for the most part it went fine. Leonard and Penny living together is depended on Sheldon, and more importantly how far his relationship with Amy progresses, so watch this space.

Could they come up with a better looking blanket?

It reminds me of just an old, homey blanket you have that is just comfy. Or a baby blanket.

and unlike as is enforced in most US shows... HER HANDS ARE UNDER THE BLANKET... lol.

After Melissa Rauch's 'rubbing hands together under the comforter' incident I'm guessing Kaley was a tad more careful here with her hands under the blanket ;)

It's the "thank God we're not the ones with drama this time" scene :)

Its a nice change, but some (not saying any names) will wonder what the backlash will be later, for Leonard playing Balloon-Laser-Skeet instead of dressing down H/S. 8P

Probably just "why didn't you talk to them Leonard" and then he's like oh alright and then he does. Situation sorted. That's the way these things always go. Simples! Anyway he probably did. Why wouldn't you want to make things more fun by laser shooting balloons? I want to do that!

I really love how they finish talking to Sheldon... and returning to cuddling. And I love that she's just drinking some tea. Casual and couple-y, cute little night in. Oh how I love these two :)

I'm sure this will be the last we hear of it. Penny realizes there's only so much you can do. While Howard is reachable, Sheldon wouldn't catch on if you bashed his head with a 2x4. Maybe electric shocks... Nah, not even then.

My first impression is that Sheldon demonstrated a new level of narcissism in this episode. Penny and Loenard laid it out for him, and he actually made it worse when he went to Amy's. I note that they didn't really resolve any of the problems, and Amy's still working at CalTech. This is too good a plot device to forget.

I was very pleased that Leonard and Penny were the "we've got a better relationship than you guys" couple tonight. Usually Bernie and Howard play that role, but it really never has fit them well. Howard listens, understands that he screwed up, but doesn't learn. At least when Bernie blows up, she can accept that she can be wrong, and sincerely apologizes, as a couple, they've been pretty static.

One thing that is clear, Leonard should never tell any of the guys anything. He might as well tell Penny, and cut out the middle man. We've seen that Sheldon can't keep his mouth shut, and Howard tell Bernie everything one way or another.

A great low key Leonard and Penny episode. Loved it.

Early stages of nesting, from the pic. Past the frantic courtship.

I don't know about that, seems to me all the episodes so far, bar this one, have had a lot of L/P stuff going on. One thing I do notice is, despite the actual episode content, the promos seem very Shamy focused, IMO.
