rickfromillinois
She only kept the FIRST pregnancy test strip? What the heck is that all about? If she thought she was pregnant because of a broken condom, wouldn't a responsible woman start have her own type of birth control? Is Penny that irresponsible or is it an unconcious action in order to get pregnant knowing that if she did Leonard would marry her? In any case it is a little disturbing. I do think that it was touching that she had kept all of those things from her relationship with Leonard, even those things from before the time they had broken up. It shows that she is romantic as far as Leonard is concerned and her feelings go far beyond the just physical.

Birth control is not 100% effective. And it's a hassle to remember to take and at the right time each day. It doesn't make her irresponsible not to use it or forget to use it. I doubt she'd want to get pregnant just so Leonard would marry her, think that's a bit much right now!

Occam's Chainsaw
Why do I get the feeling that if Leonard and Penny ever do have kids it won't exactly be planned. Penny looks at the pregnancy test in her hand only to see that the indicator displays 'positive'. "Ah, crap." she says before reaching for her glass of wine, only to stop and look at the glass before setting it back down with out taking a drink "Ah, crap." You know the pregnancy test made me think of S5E13 "The Recombination Hypothesis" where Penny is over thinking about getting married and we see she has the huge baby bump. I always thought Penny was afraid of a 'shot gun' wedding and it's something she didn't want. eirwinrommel
Another possibility is that Leonard could be sabotaging the condoms. He wants 'Smart and beautiful' babies with Penny. Penny is reluctant to commit. Leonard may be helping things along (after all women have done that to men, so why couldn't Leonard do that to Penny). If they're using condoms as the primary or only method of birth control (and we know condoms aren't 100% effective) Penny may have reason to take the occasional pregnancy test. If She falls pregnant he won't be blamed. I'm not saying he's doing that, It's just a possibility. Edited October 25, 2013 by eirwinrommel

They had a whole episode based around that (the birth control thing) on 'Two and A Half Men'. They do in the UK (the cigarettes) - well not giant letters but it takes up half the pack. I think they do it in most of Europe now actually. Another possibility is that Leonard could be sabotaging the condoms. He wants 'Smart and beautiful' babies with Penny. Penny is reluctant to commit. terriblewaitress
Also from Friends when Ross finds out Rachel is preggers That's actually one of my favorite story lines! Aside from the whole Joey accidentally proposing and it took them ages to get back together. But Ross's reaction when he finds out "condoms are only effective like 97% of the time" ahaaa. I would love to see Leonard's reaction to Penny telling him this. I think actually he would freak out way more than she would about this kind of situation. eirwinrommel
My point is that both of them have reasons to use an 'accidental' pregnancy as an excuse to move things forward, and if the condom 'fails' no one gets blamed. Notice that Leonard didn't ask why Penny would be taking a test so he's aware that birth control isn't 100%. Or they didn't always use it. Also I'm not sure if Penny is using the pill as Amy likes to talk about all their cycles syncing up.
Nogravitasatall
GHAAAAHH! Why is that not in giant letters on the package!!?!?!! Why isn't that well taught in all school curriculums and by all parents to their children? It's pretty fundamental information. Go figure. Loved Penny. The moment wasn't about lust, but a revelation about how he has deeply affected her. And he responded with tenderness and love. Unusual in this genre for it not to be all about sex, but these two are really serious about each other. Then on the other side, look at her outfits! Also barefoot at the dinning table, then the walk with the rose petals. Very hot. Lucky Leonard. But his hoodie sucks the big one. (and my wife laughed sooooo much at the pregnancy test thing. Hmm)

No hoodie. About time he switched back. Edited October 25, 2013 by eirwinrommel

Getting up every 4 hours to feed a baby. Yeah, she's a drunken wanton, slut. Happy? eta. Sorry, this response was a bit rushed. I meant to say ... Yeah, she's a drunken, wanton slut. Happy? (got the comma wrong, oops) AND there is a defense in depth strategy available to her. Our technological species understands the processes. She has options. But she also has Leonard, so who knows where it might go/might have gone. Edited October 25, 2013 by Nogravitasatall

"Friends" also had a huge episode where Ross and Rachel have a one night stand, and she gets pregnant even though they used condoms. Ross freaks out in a major way, severely pissing off Rachel. Should have read further. Disgusted beat me to it. Is still remember Ross's bug-eyed look. Edited October 25, 2013 by hamerman55
terriblewaitress
Yeah, she's a drunken wanton, slut. Happy? I read this as wonton i.e. the soup and was like huh? Hahaa. Ah, that Penny. hamerman55
One thing I don't get in sitcoms. You have two people in a committed relationship, why no birth control pills? Considering that she and Leonard sleep together most of the time, and they have sex a lot, one would think that Penny would have gone on the pill. Condoms make sense for disease prevntion, but are definitely not optimal for a primary birth control measure in a committed relationship. Yet this seems to be the only one people in TV use. It must be for the comedic potential. Normal people would do something else.
3ku11
Yeah but Priya diddn't dress Leonard for Leonard, she was more worried about the image their relationship was sending out. Where as with Penny loves Leonard for who he is, always has, always well. So it's really up to Leonard to get rid of those hoodies. For the record Sheldon never sorted out Penny's box and her shelves, so hence Penny's box of thing's was never sorted out by Sheldon, he did that for Howard. As for the pregnency test's, I Think it was just a throw away joke. I don't think it implies she is irresponsible at all, maybe she bought over time with Leonard, but never used them. They could have milked unexpected pregnancy for melodrama early on. But it's not an issue, because it doesn't have to be an issue. And wrt Australian cigarette packaging BT hate this.
