Tensor Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I nominated Althea(Vernee Watson Johnson). She's got to get some love. After all, she's the only other actor, besides Jim and Johnny, that was in both pilots. And, she's part of the top ten in appearances. Ar Diem Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 (edited) As it happens, you're not his only fan: LOL. It is probably someone that knows him irl. My other 7 picks were legit choices though. I can't help myself when I see an option to throw a vote to a guy like Craig and it was a funny scene. And not Wil Wheaton? I thought you loved him. You are dead to me again. All right. Tripper Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Laurie Metcalf is taking the early lead again. She won last year's tournament, which was very mother-centric. Carol Ann Susi was the runner-up and I think Christine Baranski made it to the semi-finals. One thing that I only just thought about, should Kevin Sussman even be in this contest? Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch would have been in the tournament, since they are listed in the guest stars database for their earlier episodes, but I removed them from the tournament as they were cast members. Kevin Sussman is a semi-regular, so I'm not sure.

So if an actor or actress has been in more than 10 percent of the total episodes they would be ruled out going forward.
Tensor Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I think a 10 percent rule would be an easy way to distinguish a guest star from a reoccurring supporting character. So if an actor or actress has been in more than 10 percent of the total episodes they would be ruled out going forward.10% might be a bit much. The only ones who meet that criteria are the main cast,Carol Ann Susi(31 episodes) and Kevin Sussman(23). That would leave characters such as Priya (12), Kripke(10), Mr and Mrs Koothrappali (9), and Sara Gilbert( as guest stars, not recurring where I think they belong. For convience, the following are the characters and the number of episodes:Ian Scott Rudolf-Captain Sweatpants (7)Wil Wheaton ........................(6)Kate Micucci-Lucy...................(6)Mark Harelik-Dr. Gablehauser........(5)Pasha D Lychnikoff-Dimitri..........(5)Vernee Watson Johnson-Althea........(5)Mary Cooper, Zack, Alex, and Mike Massimo have all appeared in four episodes and everyone else has three or less.My opinion would be those with five or more should be considered recurring, but I could see everyone from Capt Sweatpants and less being considered guest star. But, then there is the question of why should Raj's parents be recurring and not guest stars, as Sheldon and Leonard's mothers are. Tripper will make the decision. I'm hoping that this may help him. BlackWhiteRose Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 It was hard to choose only five `cause I liked Zack but I had to choose so I choosed: Laurie Metcalf, Wil Wheaton, Brent Spiner, Levar Burton and Leonard Nimoy. (As a huge Star Trek Fan thats no surprise *LOL*)
Ar Diem Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Maybe 10 percent is too much but I think 5 is too little. A character like Lucy may never come back so while Capt Sweatpants looks more like a reoccurring role, Lucy doesn't. Sussman has been in so many episodes though he really does not seem like a "guest" anymore. With that said you know more about this kind of thing than I do so I defer to you. I put it out there for discussion. You make a good point about Sussman. I know it's arbitrary, but from Sara Gilbert up (although she will probably not appear in any more episodes), would be recurring. With possibly Capt Sweatpants as recurring also. Tripper Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Kevin Sussman is an interesting one also because there is a contractual difference. He joined the cast as a semi-regular for Season 6, so that puts him more in the category of Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch. They were removed from this tournament and last year's as they were full members of the cast. Maybe I should have done the same for Sussman. He was a guest star for a long time, though, so maybe he should remain in these tournaments. Sara Gilbert was of course the same back in Season 2, but I suppose as the show has gone on her part looks less prominent and feels more like a guest role. I don't know about going further and attempting to classify other guest stars, though. I think they have a place in this tournament, no matter how many episodes they've been in. Some of the most popular guest stars are the recurring guests, like Carol Ann Susi. Although it might be interesting to see how voting would go if recurring guest stars and people who've only made one or two appearances were split into different tournaments. Ar Diem Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Multiple tournaments does sound like the best way to sort it out.
wannamaker Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Have any of you come across this short interview by chance? John Ross Bowie & Kevin Sussman on "Acting Up w/ Skyler & Steve" Because people don't know the exact definition of what a lisp is, and most people, me included, have never heard of the word "rhotacism," and so "lisp" has become a sort of popular usage for particular types of speech impediments. From what I can hear John Ross Bowie (5th on the tournament whom I voted) doesn't have it in real life it's just an act?

Ar Diem Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Car thief #1 didn't make it? It is a shame that a guest star that was not even in the show this year is going to win it all.
Tripper Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Here's a look at the results for the nominations round, including a look at the guest stars who ranked 8-16 and didn't quite make it through to the knock-out round. 87 guest stars (out of 158 people listed in our database) received at least one vote. An somewhat interesting tidbit: perhaps the most well known person with the fewest votes was Yeardley Smith, the voice of Lisa Simpson, who received just one vote for her role in The Einstein Approximation episode. Car thief #1 didn't make it? It is a shame that a guest star that was not even in the show this year is going to win it all. Alas not. He didn't receive any more votes after the initial two.
