Yeah, Leonard showing people Penny topless bothers me too.  That is really OC for him, I think the writers really screwed that one up.  Maybe after they see what they done, they will cut that part.  They have a month to edit.

 

I hope so too SRAM cause that's very OOC. And it seems like they have made him act that way for a comedic purpose.

The poster is not a stenographer, and can't be expected to remember everything EXACTLY as it happened (eye whitnesses are not always reliable) Also once the episode is shot, it has to be edited and that can change the meaning of things (not to mention things can be left out). Next week we will have a report that will include (I hope) a description of an edited version of this episode, then on Sept. 26th we'll see the final version. So until then we won't really know how things turn out. Last season, more than once, people got worked up over things that were misunderstood.

You are so right, this is a perfect beginning of a Shenny story.  Leonard is partying, Penny is worried he doesn't care about them, she seeks comfort in Sheldon and then she finds out he is showing her topless movie around.  What the frak are the writers doing.  Now I'm pissed, this episode is probably going to go down as one of the worst ones of the show.

You are so right, I am so worked up about the Lenny stuff, I really didn't notice that there are problems with the other stories.  Bernadette trying to get Amy to go out with other guys and then them both describing each other's partners, is weird and OOC.  I am just hoping when TPTB see the episode they realize how bad it is and change it.

I gave in and spoiled myself. I agree that Leonard and Bernadette come across utterly awful in this episode. 

 

Overall, I think the tone of the episode is pretty bad. I don't understand how the writers can get me to buy that Sheldon has so much trouble progressing with Amy because of his issues with physical contact and then have him hug Proton last season and Penny this episode like it's no big deal. They make him reluctant to hug Amy back and even annoyed on V-day and then this? I mean, it's just terrible terrible continuity. Do they even keep track of the excuses they give for things?

Reading all of this new stuff makes me angry. What the hell are they doing to our beloved characters?

Um, okay. I wasn't going to do this but im just gonna throw it out real quick before i go off to bed. I dont think this is all that bad. PLEASE DONT SHOOT ME! The only thing in it that maybe bothers me a little is the whole topless Penny thing. im not totally surprised Leonard found it and to be honest i can imagine it was probably Howard that helped him find it. ha! Also its not totally OOC for Leonard to show it. Remember he took that picture for comic con? an extreme version of the same thing. Plus we dont know what he actually showed them. It could just have been the part right before she was topless or right after! i doubt he would go about showing his girlfriends boobs off to everyone! And i can only hope he actually didn't. We will only really know when it airs.

 

Okay and the Shenny stuff doesnt bother me either. Let them have their hug, they miss their friend/ boyfriend. I get that maybe its a little annoying since he wont willingly hug Amy but whos to say he was happy with hugging Penny? She could have and probably did pull him in for it and he stood still hating it like he does with Amy. I cant see him all of a sudden pulling her in for a massive cuddle with a huge smile on his face thinking it was great. and i really dont think anything is going to come of it. Except maybe in some fanfiction. That shit is going to go crazy with this, but in the actual show nothing will happen. They are showing Penny missing Leonard, thats a good thing! and the sides for the next episode say Penny is back spending time with Leonard and forgetting about Sheldon so all that hugging and bonding probably wont come about again.

I do think they are making characters come up rather OOC though. Sheldon hugging, Leonard acting like a jock, Bernadette encouraging Amy to cheat.

 

I do like that Penny was shown missing Leonard. I don't think the hug is that big of a deal per se, if it weren't for the fact that, like I said, it speaks of terrible continuity and I don't see the point in getting S/P closer since, like you say, Leonard is back next episode and it will probably all be swept under the carpet.

 

I really like how they handled Amy from the sound of things. I was worried they'd have her want to hit on guys and Bernadette trying to stop her but I'm really glad she stood up for Sheldon. And I did find the whole phone conversation very intriguing. Don't bring HOME any BED bugs? Mmmm. Not suggesting anything in particular, but I found that intriguing. 

 

I think people should not take the A/B describing each other's man seriously. It was meant to be a joke because they were insulting each other's men before. 

 

I also think this show is notorious for having awful premieres. I personally really disliked last season's and S5. Yes, being a Shamy fan, the Spiderman speech saved the episode, but if I take that out it was pretty awful overall. I'm interested to see what's going to happen next week.

BTW this is my take on the report.

 

1. Penny and Sheldon miss Leonard. This is probably the longest time either of them has ever been separated from him (they were in the arctic for three months, but L/P weren't a couple then). They are just comforting each other.

 

2. Bernie is just longing for a less skeezy SO (how many husbands have a stripper pole dedicated to them) and Amy just wants a boyfriend or someone who will give her some physical attention. Since they are promising a Amy/Howard scene this year it could be interesting. We know that if they had met before Bernie, they'd have been all over each other.

 

3. Leonard is probably getting some attention from the female scientists on the expedition and wants to explain that the reason he's not responding is because he has this (Penny) waiting for him at home.

Stupid like the Buffy early wake up, stupid like the photo Molly mentioned. We have to find out his motives. THEN the lynching. Or not.

I did not find the episode to be very good.  I have not found anything funny in it and I do not like the idea of Leonard showing that video to the others the ship.  I like Leonard most of the time, but their are times when he made out to be a jerk or just a total idiot.  He has been a jerk to Penny before in season 3 in the Physic Vortex.  I thought that he was a real arrogant _____ in that episode.  When he wrote her paper for her last year he was being stupid IMO.  I do not want to see them ruin the L/P relationship but I would not blame her if she dumbed him for showing the video.  She dumbed Mike in the season 1 finale for writing about their sex life in his blog.  Also, If I were Penny's father and found out about this Leonard may no longer be a "keeper". 

 

As for the rest of what I read, I did not find it to be very good at all.  The whole story is very bad in my opinion.  The writers really messed this one up especially for a season primere and after the finale from last year.

I went to last night's episode. New to this forum, but here are a few highlights.

 

The entire process was great. I was lucky enough to have non-standby tickets. The wait was in level 1 of the parking garage, which I think is a change from what I read online?. There were lots of benches for people to sit down and wait. Arrived around 3:45 and it looked like there was already over 100 standby. They announced numbers 1-19 in standby may make it in. Not sure how many actually got in because we were seated by then. We were seated third row right by the center aisle behind VIP. A couple of regulars told us those were great seats...and I have to agree.

 

Leonard is still at the North Sea and Penny and Sheldon are missing him during this episode. Amy and Bernadette are away at a conference and enjoy being hit on by men in a bar. Rajesh spends the episode missing his girlfriend and Howard tries to help him out.

This is a perfect example of an attempt to start the season in chaos and make sense of things slowly after this. They threw entirely too much crap against the wall at one time to take this as a serious attempt to change direction of the characters. Everyone is OOC at the same time.
