It sucks that the guys can't succeed to their full potential on the show. :-( I don't see it that way. A decision not to return to space isn't a failure to live up to his potential. Maybe now that he's settled into married life, he doesn't want to be away from Bernie for so long. A lot of people make career choices for personal reasons (like trying to achieve work-life balance or having an aversion to certain scenarios such as being in space).
