koops Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I have noticed in the past on the Shamy thread (since you used it as an example) that shippers will say unflattering things about their ship. But if someone outside the ship says something, for example on this thread, they get mad. Yes, that's what I was talking about earlier when I say it's absurd that we are so critical of our own ships and yet jump at each other throats when other shippers criticize it. But I also think there's an element of knowing your ship-mates better and knowing they don't mean they want to hate on your ship or your parade, whereas you never know that of others. I still stand my case though that I have very often read posts along the lines of "Ship A is better than Ship B", like it's some kind of objective fact, that makes me wonder why the need to compare ships to make oneself feel better about their own? But I digress... People getting personal should be reported to the moderators, then, and if it's something that's actionable, they will take action, even if it's just to hop into the thread and tell everyone to cool their jets. (I experienced that myself recently, when I let my emotions override my common sense, and I was rightfully slapped down for it.) My comment was more to address the whole "bashing" thing, to be honest. I think you'll agree that a lot of people tend to throw that term around willy-nilly nowadays, using it to mean "that mean ol' meany said something I don't agree with, waaah!" rather than "that guy is saying nasty and inappropriate things," which is what the term is supposed to mean. Agree on the latter part, totally.
Nogravitasatall Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) we've had so many episode of Leonard going against Sheldon.... yes. Because dramatically Sheldon is the antagonist and Leonard is the protagonist. To my mind Sheldon is an anti-hero. Like Boyd Crowder, but without the hair or the gun, yet still with the same "I'll do it my way" attitude. Everyone loves a bad boy. LOL. Some of us believe that bad behavior shouldn't be reward!
Carlos Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) The writing has really gone downhill lately, uuurg I don't know if I can take it anymore Most definitely. In trying to stretch things to make it to 10 seasons, the wrting has declined so much I'm not 100% sure they make it. I don't like the direction things are going in Hhhhhhhmmmmmmm Edited January 30, 2014 by Carlos

Yup, but i was trying to comically compare a guy who beats people to death with a gun, because shooting is too good for them, to Sheldon, who is probably scared of saliva - or once was a germaphobe anyway. But the thing is, they need conflict for humour. And humor. Edit: Edit2: I'm almost past being concerned. I miss the shining intellect. And go Team Hofstadter. LOL. The quality is slipping already.
Shamyyes Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I think we will look back at season 7 as the season of transitions. I believe the next three seasons (hopefully there will be three) will move them all along - relationships-professions -family-very quickly. 3ku11 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 For people saying the writing in TBBT has declined, maybe the show hasen't changed maybe the viewers have. Maybe you have changed and you have outgrown the show, not the show it self that has outgrown you just saying. I think the whole who changed who thing, is just more a writers thing, they realize the show is at a crossroads, and the show is going to need to change soon in terms of living arrangements, and archs of the show. So they are acknowleding the changes in the show.
SRAM Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Have to agree. Can't see how they can write 3 more seasons and still maintain the comedy and relationships. The quality is slipping already. I just think the relationship stalling is just hurting the show.

Well thats an opinion and a personal preference of the show, does not make it fact. Their are tons of people who love the relationships in the show, so don't think they think the quality is slipping. To me I don't think the quality is slipping, I just think the writing is way to Drama right now, need to go back to light hearted nerdy comedy, thats all just an adjustment. djsurrey Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Nerdy comedy is what we will see tonight. Estimations of the quality of writing for the TBBT is very subjective. I think the writers may be catering to a more diverse audience as the audience has grown. In my opinion TBBT is as good as it has ever been and perhaps significantly better as a result of more characters. Often something I don't like in an episode is the very thing someone else will rave about. Sometimes it is the other way around. No one should expect TBBT to be tailored to their own personal taste. It just does not work that way when there are millions of viewers.

I agree , I believe the problem is that certain viewers are just outgrowing the show , a friend of mine who was literally obsessed with the tbbt disliked the writing style from season 6 and hasn't even watched any of season 7 ,some people just don't like change! DaisyJane Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Good point. But hey people are always going to complain just for the sake of it, personally i thought season 4 was good I could hardly tolerate the scenes with Priya, as she sucked any and all humor out of them, but outside of that I thought S4 was very funny. 3ku11 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I liked Season 4 too, weird but I Thought it was good Lenny weren't together, seeing Penny struggled was good you felt sorry for her, Season 4 was really funny.

I'm seeing a pattern here. I thought s4 was the worst to date. S7 and S5 are next in 'awfulness'
ArmyGirl Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 (edited) I was pleasantly surprised at how little they gave away about next week's episode. The same happen with Season 6, Episode 08 gave nothing, let alone a little away where Penny's "ILY" to Leonard was concerned. It turned out to be the best part of the episode in my opinion. Tensor Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I'm seeing a pattern here. I thought s4 was the worst to date. S7 and S5 are next in 'awfulness' I don't think any of them were awful. I really like them all, there are just some I like better. For instance, I really like season 2, but I think that season one was very inconsistent, as the writers tried to find each of the character's voice. I know right, I still haven't watched the episode (the star wars one) yet (come on you illegal downloaders, I need my fix before going to work). So I'll make do with this :D Edited January 31, 2014 by Chiany
