Howard wouldn't qualify for Tenure in this case because the Tenure position is in the Physics Department and Howard works in the Engineering Department. Also, while there probably isn't a rule against giving Tenure to a non-PhD, anyone without a PhD would be dropped from the list pretty quickly since most of the other contenders would have them.

I know what they bond over. Howard's dad had another family, and he and Amy are half siblings.

Season 6 episode 19

Penny: It was a letter explaining that your dad wasn’t who he said he was. Eventually, his other life caught up to him, and the only way to keep you and your mom safe was to leave.

He abandoned both families. A real piece of work.

Drama is dramatic !

(An old one, I know, but still as relevant as it ever was)

Maybe that's why they changed his hairstyle, to look more Amyish.   :icon_twisted:

Definitely lighter. Do they have the same nose? The more I think about this, the more I like it. It would be HILARIOUS!

Interesting thought...... how will this work since it's a comedy?

The Lollypop Guild is reporting that they are taping this morning (wed) and this afternoon, as well as the evening taping., due to the large number of scenes (30-40). There is speculation about a scavenger hunt.

There is also speculation about a report that Howard and Amy will bond over something they have in common, someone suggested neither having fathers, I like that.

Both speculations are based on writer interviews AFAIK, not taping reports.

Please get your information straight before you start editorializing or exaggerating.

This is what Stardust reported last night at the other forum and in this very thread in post #893:

Found out from a couple of people who went via twitter the following. The reason they split into two days was because:

1. Most shows have 8-10 scenes, this one has 31 scenes

2. Tuesday taping only managed to lay three scenes to tape, one scene alone took over 3.5 hours because it was very complicated and involved a lot of camera angles. It also involved the entire cast.

That tells me that they have a boatload of scenes to tape tomorrow!

Not 30-40 scenes, first of all.

The show will tape again today, as has already been reported (if people were reading more spoiler information rather than going on about the tenure story...) and there will still be a studio audience.

We will hopefully get some kind of report because a friend of Roxanne's will be attending tonight's taping.

The discussion about the scavenger hunt was simply a question, since we know that was an upcoming idea that they were working on for an episode.  We don't know if it was for this ep (#3) or if it's for an upcoming episode.  The information about the scavenger hunt and Amy and Howard bonding over it came from the TV Line spoilers that, I believe, were posted yesterday in post #871.

I must be an exceptional human being, to be able to resist telling others what to do.

Not really confusion, just lack of comprehension. 31 scenes total  [last I checked 31 was between 30 and 40]

They shot a few yesterday, with one big scene with all the cast members, it took a lot of time because they reshot it multiple times.

They will finish today. The speculation is that there will be a scavenger hunt montage, because of hints from the writers. That would require a lot of scenes.

Without speculation, this thread would be pretty empty.

I wasn't talking about speculation, but about somehow turning a very specific comment--"31 scenes"--into an exaggeration that clearly wasn't intended--"30-40 scenes"--which you knew wasn't what was said.

Of course 31 is between 30 and 40, but you know there's a difference.

And anyway, all of this has already been mentioned and discussed, so I'm not sure what the point of your post was to begin with.

Well Phanta, I was going by several tweets last night. There were tweets by folks who attended and when asked by other individuals if they explained why there were two taping days (and one of those was one that answered me direct when I saw her tweet)...ALL of them said they were told before taping began that the reason they were going over two days is because they normally have in a given show 8-10 scenes but that this script called for 31 scenes so they felt they had to cover it in two days instead of one.   Now, 31 takes can easily take up a single scene.  A single scene can have 90 days even.  But in this case they were not discussing takes, they were specifically saying the word "SCENE".   So I am not sure where you got your information. I am getting it from people who attended (at least four different sources) that all said the same thing.

Tara likes to tweet photos of shows being taped providing us "clues".  Here is the one she just tweeted for 7.03's clue:

I'm not arguing with you about the information.  I was simply correcting Disgusted's exaggeration of 31 "scenes" (whether they were scenes or takes) into somehow implying they were doing 30-40 scenes for this episode.

I was posting your information as the only real detail we've had so far about the taping last night.  I don't think I contradicted your information in any way.

Well, both actors are 100% jewish and then have similar physical features. But I think that having the same father is a way too extreme bond. The writers won't go that way because of too much drama in perspective.

I don't know if there has to be drama, but it could lead to a lot of future story possibilities.  I am not sure they would learn that the first time out anyway.  It could be leading that direction, however.  I think it could make it amusing actually, given how Sheldon looks at Howard as a frenemy (sometimes friend, sometimes competitor).  Howard has looked at Amy in the past as a wierdo, but if he found out that she was his half-sister, his brotherly instincts might kick in and make it interesting in the Shamy dynamic.   It could be done as drama, I guess, but I could also see it done in a very comedic and hilarious manner.   The writers may not go that way, but I never like to limit them because they have really thrown us all for a loop before.   LOL!

PC, some of the responses were to another friend of mine who tweeted for answers.  I am not sure if she DM'd or not or how they communicated. It could have been via email even.   She tweeted three other people and got information from them and shared with me what they had said.   I tweeted one woman only.  All I know is that 31 takes would not take a long time.  But 31 scenes, especially if complicated and requiring multiple takes for those, could take a very long time.   Takes are short and typically don't take long to do.

There is no way they could fit as many as 30 scenes into 22 minutes. Simple math tells me, it would have to be an average of 0.7333333333 minutes per scenes and that is just impossible. A scene constitutes dialog, characters and a setting before changing those 3 variables. When that change occurs, then it is another scene.

Now, if you tell me they are gonna shoot scenes 30 times, THAT is possible, since a scene, especially if there are different angles to shoot can take many shots, thus making the shoots longer due to all the camera angles, one shot minimum per camera angle.

I do believe that maybe the people who reported that initially could have gotten it wrong, or maybe the people from the show that explained it didn't use the correct terms, it is, after all, a reasonable confusion, since both concepts are kinda similar.

This from Roxanne at the LG

In a recent article about HIMYM in Entertainment Weekly, it mentioned that the show normally has 50 - 60 scenes per episode, ...... And Community's clip show had over 70 scenes. So 31 is easily doable, they'll just be shorter than their usual.

I was going from memory on the scenes, I knew it was 30-something. I didn't realize not giving the exact number was a hanging offense.....

I think eirwinrommel might have written that in jest  :icon_redface:

Well it started as something that just hit me when someone suggested that they bond over not having a father around. But when I think about it could work. They are both randy, and do kind of look alike. And think all the fun that could be had from Howard giving Sheldon crap about how Sheldon treats his sister. And Sheldon now has to think about how he treats Howard as a perspective member of his family. I can't find the post now, (i was getting ready to go to the dentist when I saw it) I'd be glad to give credit if I could find it.

I never said it was an offense, sheesh some people are like extra sensitive today.

And yes HIMYM has that many scenes, but they also count the transitions and flashbacks.

Each episode is usually shot over three days in the Los Angeles-based Soundstage Studio 22[16] and features upwards of 50 scenes with quick transitions and flashbacks.

Anyhow, is just a matter of waiting I guess.

Since someone also said that they shot only 3 scenes yesterday and it took them around 4 hours.-. If they can shoot 27 today then, I would give the production team an automatic Emmy.

The only plausible way I think they could do 30+ scenes in an episode is if many of those scenes were later compiled into some sort of montage that goes into a part of the show. THAT would take as many scenes that would take long to shoot but that wouldn't take that many time on the episode, as someone pointed out on FF ala Ramona Nowtizki "Yoko Ono" montage.
