I've probably said my opinion on this episode enough but it won't hurt one more time right?? I've read most of the comments but I may have missed one or two (or maybe more). Also excuse my mistakes I didn't sleep at all at night cause I had to work.

First of all I think what the writers decided to do at the finale was one of the possible outcomes. Actually, I think hardly anybody said that what they did do is OOC. It is IC but I highly doubt that if they took another route anyone would protest saying Sheldon should have left. Ok maybe except for notch who totally called the finale!!! :p So, yes it's probable for Sheldon under that amount of pressure to snap and decide to just leave and think. Actually, anyone could react that way I know people who did and don't have the issues Sheldon has. That is understandable and besides the fact that the "sending someone away" theme has become a little tedious I can see that story as a good way for the writers to tell what they want. I said before that I think it is a good storyline but poorly executed IMO. One of my biggest issues is that Sheldon was just going to leave without saying a word at anyone cause Lenny found him by chance. But it's not that absurd to expect that he would contact with Amy. And I mean before he left. The ideal would have been for him to ask her opinion on the matter(something he did in the past) but given that she was part of the pressure he could at least inform her in person. He admitted once he is a coward but I believe that in the important stuff he can manage just like he did with the kiss. It takes a lot of courage to leave aside the huge intimacy issues Sheldon has and the condescending attitude against anyone enjoying it and actually be a willing participant. He is all denial and as someone said kind of a drama queen but I think he can pull off some stressful situations just fine. That's why even in his greatest distress (and I think that not only because of the changes in his life but also because he finds himself enjoying some of the changes) I thought he would have the sanity to at least look her in the eye and tell her he needs some time alone.

About Lenny I get their point of view and tbh at this point they could only do so much. It striked a bit odd at first that no one - and Penny in particular - thought of calling Amy cause at the end of the day even if Sheldon is a better friend for them Amy is their friend too. They could at least suggest to Sheldon that he should call her and say goodbye. Lenny had the chance it's just wrong Amy didn't. Now supposing someone did call her and she ended up there somehow I wouldn't expect even for a second that she would talk him out of it. If Sheldon thinks that's good for him then that's good for him end of story. But instead of having a brilliant scene where Amy shows exactly what her "so much love" means and she urges him to find what it is he is looking for we get an L/S/P scene where Lenny act like his parents again. I am not saying it wasn't lovely. I bet it is either way I completely trust kaz (thanks to all the people who took the time to write a report :) ) and I will probably love it but I still think a scene with Amy being perfectly in synch with his needs and letting him go would be way better for me. So, I am not opposed on Sheldon leaving but how it was done. And what I am afraid even more is the way it will continue.

I get that whether someone thinks Sheldon's behaviour was acceptable or that he didn't need to contact Amy is quite a personal thing and it's hard to say the one or the other is wrong. I do think Amy loves him (and for what it's worth he loves her too) but sometimes I feel she is not unhappy but she is not happy either. I mean one cannot be excited and over the moon in a relationship where they literally wait for something to happen and I absolutely don't mean sex. I think what Amy wants is the closeness she could have with another person it being intellectual, emotional or physical. Yes Sheldon is trying but let's face it he is not always doing great. And granted that Sheldon doesn't seek that closeness with anyone (although when he comes closer with someone he does like it he is just too afraid to admit it) it's not surprising that he takes a lot more from this relationship than he gives. Plus he has a really difficult character which makes it nearly impossible for someone not to create that kind of relationship with Sheldon. And it's wonderful that Amy loves him just the way he is and she is willing to wait for anything she might want and go by his pace but I cannot overlook the fact that Aky is just a human being. Realistically there is only so much she can take but as she is written it looks like she can take everything without a complaint. If we had a tet-a-tet scene with her looking at his eyes and feeling at his distress I would buy it in a second. But now I don't want a saint Amy I want a believable one who has a limit and can reach it too. Yeah he is broken (and IMO she kinda is too) but she is not just putting up with her broken boyfriend. She should be dead honest with him when the case calls it. It was adorable that she tried to spare his feelings by not telling him he is annoying (and I don't believe she herself thought so she just knew some people did). But I think now he crossed a line. Amy doesn't know that but he brags about how he feels so secure in the relationship cause Amy can't be physical with another man while he knows very well that physical intimacy is something she wants but he has a pretty slick way to keep her frustrated while he is perfectly calm that she would never cheat on him. And I don't suggest that he should go out of his comfort zone and do something he is not ready for. But I would expect from him at least to provide her with the same level of security. Yes he won't cheat on her obviously. But is she certain that at the next big change he won't grab his stuff and storm out again without even informing her?? Of course she isn't and it's not that difficult for Sheldon to freak out. That's why I can't stress enough how that simple thing -that he said nothing - makes all the difference. It would be only natural for Amy to think that not four but ten or fifteen years later they could be still on the same place. And if for Sheldon it's "just four years" for Amy it "four years already" cause it's her life too and she needs to live it the way she wants. I think it would be really really interesting for her character to go through a crisis and question herself what many of us have been asking from times to times. Why is she in this relationship?? I don't get why it's ok for him to have second thoughts about it but if Amy was to do that she would be manipulative or putting pressure on him or whatever. I would despise a situation where Amy would say "move in with me if you want me" or "have sex with me". Asking for something meaningful and from the heart as she did is acceptable but that would be blackmail. What I want is a realization moment for Amy. She changed but does she realize how much?? I think it's only healthy for a person to sort out their priorites and decide what they want in life. If she decides she wants Sheldon despite the fact that he probably won't give her everything she wants then fine. But let her struggle with herself for a change!! Let her become stronger in this relationship!! What I love earlier this season was the Amy standing up for herself. The Amy who would gladly leave Sheldon take the bus if he is a jerk to her. I want for Amy to find her quirkiness again. And just see the girl who is a little broken too and doesn't quite know what to say or how to say it. I want Amy to stop struggling with Sheldon and start struggling wirh herself. Be a little damn more flawed and selfish and less saint!!!

Other than Amy's distress which is an itch I cannot scratch (if that brings something in memory :p ) I don't have a problem with the episode. And it is plain obvious that they have at least where they want this to end in mind (I mean the writers) even if they don't plan that far ahead cause IMO all these things going on weren't done in chance or to set up just Sheldon's departure. I want to believe that Sheldon won't come back a new better man all of a sudden. It would tell me that they didn't know how to change him so they used the "he went to a trip and suddenly saw it all clearly" trick which is lame. He could probably be a lot calmer and maybe have sort something out in his head and decide to try harder. But I don't want Amy to just take him back. I know they are not broken up but it's about time for that girl to be shaken up and ask some big questions on herself. I don't want her to break up with him out of rage(which I would totally get) or vengeance or as a means to win something. I would like for her to break up with him or just take a break and be reluctant to give herself again as a means of survival. He does that from the beginning and these guys are just so alike. Plus he shouldn't take her so much for granted. She unique and the best girlfriend he (or anyone really) could ever find. He needs to realize that.

Sorry, for this post it's probably the longest I have ever written here but when it come to Amy I just can't help myself. I consider myself more an Amy fan that a shamy shipper (there I said it tho I ship them BIG time!!!!) and everything depends on how her character gets treated next season for me. Someone pointed out she is the only one being sad at the finale and many times people have said that we know very little about her. I hope next season we get to see some episodes that focus on her and on her feelings rather than Sheldon's.

Is it crazy that I don't think Amy is unhappy in this relationship? Sure, he sometimes frustrates her, which is a given, and we know she'd like more intimacy, although I still maintain she is in no way ready for anything more than kissing just yet  (All talk, no action). However, I don't think she's feeling love-starved, either. Maybe I'm completely wrong. Maybe she SHOULD feel love-starved based on some of the comments we see Sheldon make to other people, but that's a whole 'nother cup of noodles. I think Sheldon needs to be more considerate and put her before himself more often, yes, and mocking her in this episode was uncalled for, but I think he's been doing pretty okay. Amy is a saint and I think she understands that when he's being clueless and insensitive (and yes, sometimes a bit crazy), it's not because he wants to hurt her.

I just wish Amy would say, "Sheldon, you hurt my feelings when you said this or that," and for Sheldon to show the same kind of maturity he's showed several times this season.

But I don't think Amy feels sad or trapped in the relationship, I really don't. I think he makes her happy.

What does Sheldon do to make Amy happy?

I don't get at all why you think Leonard cannot suggest something to Sheldon?  What social rule did he break?  They are best friends after all.  It's not like Leonard just STATED that Sheldon needed to leave his home.  He was offering up different scenarios.  What's the big deal?

Agreed Kasey.

Leonard's suggestion, in passing, of Sheldon living in Penny's apartment was a tiny part of the episode and had little to do with the plot. What Sheldon found disturbing is having to live without Leonard. It is a thread that has run through several episodes this season. He envisions Leonard driving him to Comicon when he's eighty years old, changing setting on his entertainment center without needing a remote, etc. Penny has always been the competition for Leonard's attention, with her fancy genitals and bending Leonard to her will not his. After all, Leonard is his "lump of clay".

Sheldon's idea of an accommodation with L/P is for him to live with them for the rest of his life. That's the big deal, not having Leonard suggest him moving into Penny's apartment.

I am definitely looking forward to season eight! Agh! there are just so many plot opportunities and sending Sheldon away was a great way to make it easier for his character to develop. I just hope they don't disappoint us Shamys [emoji16][emoji16]

Ironic that Sheldon is running away because he hates change and hes expected to change while he's away

I don't buy it

I think the best thing would be for him to return and not HATE change so much but realize that it happens.  Anything more at this juncture would be wrong.

It's also quite possible that Sheldon thinks he'll just go away for a while and then come back and things will magically conform to the way he has wanted it all along.  That is what I hope and pray the writers don't end up doing..

I think it's possible he's going away to process some of the external changes that have occurred.  I don't necessary think he's going to change but he might come back better able to accept the inevitable, and ready to accept the challenges.

I agree!

Sheldon has always been my favourite character and I will defend him but I really can't see how sending him away to change when he hates change and everybody's letting him go will make any difference

And I'm sad for Amy because she will be left to put up with snarky Sheldon mocking her every time she mentions living arrangements and their future because tptb will do that just for laughs

I really hope tptb can work this out because I sure can't!

I've not given up on Sheldon....yet

Yup, if he hasn't grown up by this point he never will. Come September he'll be the same child he always has been. My only hope is that Amy finally does some growing up and finds a real relationship. It is too much to ask of Sheldon and she should realize that.

If this was real life you would be right. The writers will be forced to have him change. Amy and Sheldon aren't leaving the show and they don't want to lose such a huge fan base. Just like people want Leonard and Penny together others want Amy and Sheldon together. IMO they are certainly not going to find another permanent guy for Amy. There is already enough characters on the show now. That's why I think Raj/Emily are doomed. A guy for Amy for a couple episodes. Maybe. Long term? Not a chance.

Very good point confirming that Sheldon/Amy are end game and any break ups and dating around won't last.  They can't keep expanding the permanent cast... after a while it just becomes ridiculous.  The only other permanent cast member they might add is a counterpart for Raj.  Then all the original cast is paired up.  Beyond that, it becomes way too many storylines to try and squish into each episode.  So many of the episodes already feel rushed because of the amount of cast they already have.

Doesn't everyone really know that in the end Sheldon & Amy WILL be together? Why all the angst?

The angst is for all this so called change that is apparantky going to magically happen in other peoples views

Personally right now I can't see how going away will make him revaulate things and suddenly be OK with it all

They could bring in a guy for Amy on a recurring basis, a la Paul Rudd on Friends. The show is hardly at risk of losing ratings.

I think if they bring in anyone recurring character  it would be someone like Emily for Raj. TBBT already has 7 regulars compared to Friends 6. I think others would have said their be no risk of losing ratings if Lenny broke up and they found a recurring girlfriend for Leonard. If you are Lenny or Shamy fans you look at things a certain way. If you go by this forum (which I know isn't really a true measure of anything) I'm a Lenny fan but their is more Shamy fans on here. Just by the talk of the last two taping reports there has been more talk on here about the finale compared to the engagement.

I agree with you guys. I'm positive Sheldon is coming back and there's a really good chance that he will be the same Sheldon as when he left. I mean I would love for him to change, but I just don't see that happening. I mean come on. It's Sheldon! Plus, Jim signed up for three more seasons and his character is the main character of the show so they can't keep him off. There would be no show without Sheldon so..do you guys agree?
