Question: Anything on The Big Bang Theory finale? I’ll take anything! – Elli

Ausiello: Even though Laura Spencer’s Emily doesn’t appear in the May 15 season-ender, “there will be quite a bit of discussion about Raj and Emily,” teases exec producer Steve Molaro, who adds that the penultimate episode on May 8 features “a really, really beautiful scene” between Spencer and Kunal Nayyar that was completed “in one take… They were both so great in it and were so natural. And there was so much chemistry. [The scene] was done, and we moved on.”

I like Emily. I hope they bring her back as recurring next season!!

unfortunately, Amy is only a supporting character whether we choose to admit it or not. Therefore, the writers can literally do whatever they feel will support their main character,Sheldon...even if that means making her a doormat. If they choose to change Amy... (give her Penny's  status in the group) then we can expect FIREWORKS! :girldevil:

I understand what you say Kelli and agree with it , although not completely. The fact that Amy is a supporting character means that Sheldon's story is more important than hers, I get it BUT, if she IS NOT a doormat, and is respected as a true character, that will in turn benefit Sheldon's story, by making it more believable. If they skew (sp?) it too much in Sheldon's favor people might beging to loose sympathy for him .

I know what you are saying but basically, I think that there's not much emphasis on Amy's character because Mayim was already the star of her own show for 5-6 years on Blossom. OF COURSE, I'd love to see her as something more. I'm not sure how other cast members would react if they made her character more prominent, even if it does help Sheldon along... I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

What does Mayim's having had her own show before have to do with whether or not Amy's character is more or less emphasized?  Why would one have anything to do with the other?

Do you think that the other cast members would be worried if Mayim was given more to do as Amy or that it would somehow threaten the others if her character's place in Sheldon's life were more prominent?  Do you really think any of them are that petty?

I think it's just that the "big 3" are always going to get the main storylines, but at this point so much of Sheldon's life is tied to Amy that she's never going to be truly ignored.  Still, contracturally, she's never going to be on equal footing as Jim/Johnny/Kaley.  They're leads and she's supporting, but not because she was once upon a time the star of a show who has to now be kept damped down for fear of overpowering the others.

The public likes the character of amy, surely to the majority, and Majim has also been named as best comic actress unlike the most elderly members of the cast! she earns less than the three principal characters but as actress is equally important.

I have to disagree with your statement, these actors are represented by agents and firms, during negotiations, that have the job to get as much money as possible based on thier importance in the show.  The amounts signed for by the people who play Amy and Bernadette do reflect their importance to TPTB for the show.  You may like the character a lot but the people who make the show put their importance as the least of the seven characters and that is reflected in their salaries.  I truely believe, just how the show gravitated to become Sheldon centric, TPTB would get rid of Amy in a minute if they thought the Sheldon character was funnier without her, which is a shame because I like her character much more than Sheldon.

Hopefully he'll keep coming back to guide Sheldon - http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/big-bang-theory-professor-proton-698839.

I think it was interesting when Molaro said Proton "...helps Sheldon to open himself up and see the people in his life (ahem, Leonard) as a family."  What about his girlfriend Amy??

And then there's this - "In this moment, he has a greater appreciation for those around him, particularly Leonard.  It's not a massive change in Sheldon.  It's all small increments."  And then he says it won't have a "direct impact" on Sheldon's relationship with Amy.  Once again, what about AMY??

I took those remarks to be about tonight's episode & leading up to the season finale. I think we will see an impact with his relationship with Amy next season.

Funny that is how I first felt when Obi-Wan let himself be killed back in 1975.

Could he be throwing the shippers off the scent of something big coming up? Maybe in the season 8 premiere?

Bleh... Getting tired of hoping :p my ship's taking in water!! XP

In effects would not have sense say that Proton has an effect on his relationship with Amy if then in the last episode sheldon goes away! And obvious that Sheldon will definitely understand his feelings for amy in the next season. I hope that Molaro and the others gives us some anticipation on the next season during the summer!!

Ok, I know that Amy and Bernadette have arrived for last, but were been taken as regular members of the cast very soon, this means that the public has immediately loved her, also they have an important role in the sitcom, also they have signed for other three seasons and it would not have sense not develop in a good way their character in my opinion..

Actually, there were differences in their status, right up until this season. Even though their names have appear at the beginning of the episodes since season four, the still did not credit for episodes they were not in, while Kaley did get credit for the two she missed. They were also not signed for the full 24 episodes, they got 22 each, through season 6.

The opening credits were changed in season six, to include them in the final shot of everybody eating, but this is the first season where the will appear in all 24. This probably has to do with their renegotiated contracts. For instance, Mayim was not there at the taping for "Gorilla" and was only in one small pre-taped scene. Prior to this year, they probably would have simply not had her in the scene at all, and counted that as one of the shows she was scheduled to miss.

I don't specifically know their contracts, but honestly it don't interest me to know them. I think that Amy and Bernadette belong to the group from four years and the public also cares for them. These continuous classifications among the characters I don't believe serve to something.. even if I know that the central characters are Sheldon Leonard and Penny, I also know that without the rest of the group they would lose big part of their potential. Obviously this is only my opinion..

No problem. I was just explaining that they were treated differently, contract wise, for a three to four years after their introduction.

Hey, Tensor, I was wondering if you might know the answer to this question...

I was thinking that it might be fun if in the last season of the show they included the old unaired pilot when it came to DVD set extras.  But I was wondering if there would be issues with having to pay some kind of residual or something to any actors who were in that pilot--like the girl that played Katie and the girl who played Gilda, or whatever.  Also, who owns that pilot?  CBS?  WB?

Anyway, I was just idly wondering about that.  I think it would make an interesting extra to contrast with the show when it finally comes to the last season.

Yes, the new SAG contracts specify how much actors get for digital rights. The writers strike that interrupted the first season was mostly about digital rights. I don't see payments holding that up. It was mentioned to Chuck Lorre around the fourth season to include it on the DVDs, but he wondered if it was a good idea to "Show your failures". If a studio rejects a pilot, it reverts back to who produced it, in this case WB. Networks don't normally own the rights to the shows, they pay a licensing fee to the production company for a set period.

I don't know if you remember when TBS and the local affiliates started running season six. The were questions about why certain episodes (about 4-6) were not being run with the rest of season six (The 43 Peculiarity was a obvious example). This was because CBS still wanted to use those as on-network reruns, within their licensing rights. So they released everything but those 4-6 the network may use again in the following year. It gets a bit murky after that, and will depend on the specific language in the contract.
