S7 Spoilers

It sounds to me that maybe he's playing on her sympathy for him because of how his mother has told all these embarrassing stories in the book--kind of how he explained how he built the hugging manequin.  Not to manipulate Penny into sex, but to just kind of gain her sympathy, make her feel sorry for him.  Penny knows what his mother is like from her own experience, so it's not as if she'd be unsympathetic in general.

But it seems to me it's just played for laughs--and maybe a little "don't you feel sorry for me?" kind of playful teasing.  But it seems like Penny is kind of teasing him back--especially with the "left breast" thing. :p

I don't think it's all that big a deal.

I would not figure Beverly as a mother who would breastfeed.  Love the joke about "you still do that".

I was really confused about what it meant about Amy not losing her virginity over Indiana Jones.  Can anyone elucidate?

I think Sheldon meant she was losing her Indiana Jones virginity--never having seen the IJ movies, this was her "first time".

Exactly, this doesn't appear on the surface to anything different from what he has already done.  Afterall, reading her book about him can not be that much different embarrassment wise than when Bev was talking to Penny face to face.

Shady-manipulative-tricking-Penny-into-sex-Leonard! only exists on Shenny fanfiction so far.

I do not recall painting such a ghastly portrait of Leonard. I merely suggested that he may be tempted to to turn a negative (Penny reading his mother's book) into a positive (Penny feeling very sorry for him and babying him a bit).

Amy did something quite similar in The Fish Guts Displacement.

I think she would breast feed because of scientific evidence that infants that are breastfed yada yada.... and mothers that breastfeed yada yada. I am sure it wasn't because of maternal instincts or desire to hang out with her baby.

It would be fun if Leonard wrote his own book. "The hugging machine..."

Just think of all the things Beverly has done in the name of science when it comes to him (Leonard) --- it would be a best seller and a bitter pill for her to shallow knowing that academic world would know all her secrets.

I agree about the breastfeeding -- social convention  = 1; Leonard = 0.

which part? the not saying she was not sick anymore?  I still don't see the similarity

Amy discovered that being sick (a negative) meant receiving more and better attention from Sheldon (a positive) so she artificially extended her illness to get some extra "positive".

Perhaps Leonard will realise that Penny reading his mother's book (a negative) leads her to asking questions about his childhood and reacting with extra compassion whenever a particularly sad/strange anecdote comes up (a positive). So maybe he will up the ante a tad and lay it a bit thicker than necessary (or true) to get even more affection.

It is just a hypothesis of course. And never did I think of Leonard as being manipulative or shady. I do apologise if my post made it look like that was my stance. I just believe he could show himself to be just a teeny bit (and adorably) devious in his quest for all the extra cuddles he can get.

Stardustmelody, this how I feel and I wish Leonard would let her to get lost and stay out of his life for good, but he loves the witch for some reason. With a mother like Beverly he doesn't need enemies.

eta:  Leonard doesn't know about his mother kissing Sheldon, Penny, Sheldon and Beverly agreed to keep it a secret fro him, but we the viewers remember it well.

btw thanks for posting the tibit about 7.04.

I don't think it will be so bad, if Penny comes off supporting him. Then it would be some more Team Hofstadter goodness. But if they have her make fun of him or make unsympathetic jokes, then it is just another case of the writers trashing Leonard for laughs.

While I would like to see someone stand up to Beverly at some point, I don't think Penny teasing Leonard is necessarily meant to come across as trashing Leonard.  For laughs, yes, but not in a bad way.  Two of my friends are married and they tease each other all of the time.  With that said I would be happy seeing Penny defend him too.  Either way I am good as long as it is good natured fun.

I think Mary Cooper is just the person to stand up to Beverly.  Oh, what a tremendous episode that would be!

Agreed, teasing can be good-natured and even a way of expressing affection.

*Peeks into the spoiler thread* (OMC!)  :ninja:

Just because I wanted to say that I am loving that the book is for a class! I am really happy to see Penny is still going to school.

*disappears back into the forums*

Does that mean that they'll discuss/study Leonard in Penny's class? What would happen if Penny mentions she knows the author in class?

"I know her,  she treated her son like crap, never showed him any affection."

What would/will happen if/when Penny introduces Leonard to any of her classmates.

This could be a future episode possibility.

I am looking forward to the Shamy scenes.

I just noticed a side has been added to the site for 7.05 (The Workplace Proximity).  They normally don't release the title on the sides site.  According to what I can see it is for Neuroscience Colleague #1 & #2.  Does anyone have access to the site?  My password no longer works.

Guest I'm not dead Cheryl

turns out I was wrong, Leonard was taking advantage of the situation.....

:(

I'm sad, it's very OOC for Leonard, and they have positively not character assassinated him, but beaten him quite badly.

NOT HAPPY with the LP plot.

The other plots were funny though :)

I think it was a good way for Leonard to test his boundaries and see how far he could get with this (last time Bev was around (and not when he'd just broken up) he almost got sex, I'm sure he remembers that) - wouldn't most people try get the sympathy vote/sympathy sex? And a good way for Penny to show she ain't takin' no BS about this whole thing. Hope they keep the "now you won't get the left one or the right one" line ha that made me laugh.
