I listed to the podcast as well - I though it was really funny and had some great topics. But of course, if you're already familiar with a lot of other interviews with Mayim or Chuck there's not much new to find out here. No big scoops on the future of TBBT either.

That kinda cracked me up because so many people are ranting about how "this was always meant to be a show about nerds!!111" and then you have Chuck talk about how this was a rather incidental side effect and not necessarily something they were aiming for. lol

Yeah. Take the AV Club for instance that had an article I think shortly after Kunal said that Season 10 might be the last. The comments section of that article was full of 'the show sucks', 'why do people watch it', 'it was ruined when they introduced the girls', 'I liked it more when they were just nerds' etc. And yet whilst there was bound to be references to geek and nerd culture as that was part of their life the show isn't about that, it's about these deeply flawed but brilliant individuals trying to navigate through life and the experiences it has to offer.

I thought there may have been a reference to Season 10 perhaps being the last, but there wasn't and maybe if there was we would have just got the usual spiel that they want to do more but we will have to wait and see. Perhaps they simply trust the process, it's not like a sitcom that is still in it's early infancy, they have been through this process before.

Listened to the podcast whilst at the gym this morning some interesting topics being discussed. Actually found the Lorre bits most interesting as I knew little about him really compared to Mayim. I didn't know for example that he co-wrote the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles soundtrack which I used to watch every week!

It was also interesting to hear what his vision was for the show when he co-created it and how even now after all these years it's probably more true to his vision than it has ever been.

agreed.  Nothing Mayim said we've never heard before, so I enjoyed Lorre's thoughts & his history a bit more.  I knew it but not in so much canter.  I actually didn't know Kaplan left school to write for SNL.  That was interesting.

It was a cute interview.  I regularly listen to the Nerdist podcast, so this was a mixture of two worlds for me!!

LOL The AV Club comment section for any TBBT related thing is such a mess every time. Jeez. The sheer irrational hate these people have for the show is baffling!

I always like it a lot when Lorre talks about how they had to find the right style of comedy for this show that the audience taught them that by being so protective of the characters, and overall how important it is that the audience cares about the characters. And that really rings true for me on many levels. Like, personally, I have a hard time watching a show just for the heck of it. If I don't care about the characters even with the funniest jokes or whatever the show would be a bore or at best some mindless background noise. And it's no surprise for me that the show only really clicked with me once I could see it in proper order cause that's when the assortment of random jokes that you would get when you just watch some random episodes while zapping through the channels suddenly transform into a story with character arcs and all that jazz and that what's made it interesting. Jokes alone wouldn't do it for me.

And I guess that is the crux for many people who watched like three random episodes or whatever and thought "oh this is terrible" because they never bonded with the characters and somehow ended up with the idea that you're not supposed to root for them in their small and big adventures in life. Heck, it's probably also the crux with anyone who just has no point of access to Sheldon cause when you do not like this guy one bit and have not a shred of empathy for him it undoubtedly makes it so much harder to enjoy this show since so much revolves around him. I personally don't have those issues but I can see where that comes from.

Anyway, even for all the shows that have been recommended to me and that I just couldn't get into I'm not writing rage induced comments all over the internet just because I didn't like a popular thing. I've better things to do. lol

Yeah, that would be my guess as well. And I also think that when we'll hear about S11 and beyond it will be in a more public manner than some random podcast or cast interviews or whatever. SDCC would be a more fitting venue, by comparison.

The only characters that they have cared about the last seasons is Sheldon and Amy.

I was talking about how it's important for Lorre that the audience cares about the characters. That's what he was talking about in the podcast.

That's why so many ppls liked S9x24. It was such a breath of fresh air from the Sheldon show.

Ok I misunderstood what you meant, but it doesn´t change my opinion about the writers.

If I hated the show as much as some on social media or online articles do I just wouldn't waste my time watching it. I'm not like Sheldon i.e. once I commit to watching a show I have to see it through to the very end even if the quality declines.

They must be doing something right, 20m viewers or around that figure in the US and millions more across the world.

Exactly, a lot of people still watch the show hoping things will change and the quality of the show gets better. There are millions of fans who do not like the direction the show is taking but still watch because they want to see it till the end or havent given up yet. Those people have a right to complain if they feel they are being shot changed. Just like there are millions who thinks the show is great and plaster it all over social media. Ppls are entitled to their opinions, be it negative or positive. It doesn't mean they should stop watching because there are aspects/characters of the show they don't like.

Yeah I respect that have their own opinion, just speaking for myself in that if I had similar views to some of the most outspoken critics then I just wouldn't watch the show.

I get that and the most extreme outspoken critics will always be there to criticise and agree should not be watching the show. They remind me of people who watch a controversial programme on TV knowing what to expect and then complain to the watchdog about contents in it. If I was watching something I don't like the remote control is my best friend or if it's something that will gross me out I simply wouldnt watch it.

Well, she would know about her and Johnny's contracts (they had the same lawyers representing them and negotiated most of their contract together).  It appears the reports of an option year on their last contracts wasn't correct.

But do you think that there are good possibilities that they renew for a new season?

I'll repeat what I said in the Jim Parson thread:

It's all gonna depend on how much the cast wants.  It may be that the first five will have to agree to a pay cut to make this a multi year deal (and this is the first chance for Melissa and Mayim to make the buck the others are making.  And there is how much CBS is willing to pay, and whether WB is willing to give more of the back end, and how many year there are going to be.  CBS says it wants the show, but it doesn't want to have to lose money on it.  For WB, it's how much CBS is willing to pay for the license, as the new episodes are basically nothing but profit in syndication.  Several of the cast and TPTB have mentioned it's tricky, CBS has mentioned it's wants the show. .  My guess is the tricky part is going to be the money the actors want.  There are a lot of moving parts and to try and get all those parts meshed together, to get a deal done, could be difficult.  It's going to be interesting to see if they can get things done.

The best I can do is say I think they will get a two year deal worked out.  Now, whether those years will be a full 24 episodes or like TAAHM 18, to reduce costs,  for the final season, is another variable.

The Big Bang Theory won "International TV Audience Awards - Best Comedy TV Series" at The Monte Carlo TV Festival.

From Deadline Hollywood...

American viewers may have bid farewell to CSI a year ago but the long-running CBS drama procedural continues to be very popular around the world. The mothership series was named again as most watched drama series in the world at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival. This is a sixth win for the series, more than any other show by a mile. The only other multiple winners in the category are CBS spinoff CSI: Miami(twice) and fellow CBS crime procedural NCIS, which won for the last two years. On the comedy side, CBS’ flagship comedy The Big Bang Theory nabbed the top spot, which it previously held in 2013.

Luckily none of the cast members have a say in the writing. :icon_lol: And I seriously don't get the fuss about the pregnancy/the possibility of working with kids.

Good morning (or good afternoon to you) Tonstar!  The article looks like it is a re-hash of previous statements that have been circulated widely in the press.  I'm surprised that they didn't include Johnny G's reaction, which was similar to Kaley's.  Just another sort of "re-run" for our summer!!!

(and I apologize for the multiquote----the site and my computer are not speaking civily at the moment!---Not sure how April got in there...)

I don't think they are being cry babies at all. They get payed alot of money. And fair enough they don't like the idea of babies in the show. I ihate babies LOL, sorry i do. So if as adults they prefer againgst it, even though its not up to them. They are not robots, they are entitled to that preference.
