Comedy of the year: The Big Bang Theory (CBS)

In comedy, broadcast still holds the top two cards: ABC's modern classic Modern Family and this extravagantly funny crowd-pleaser, which in tone and popular appeal has morphed into a nerd version of Friends. If you have to pick, give the edge this year to Big Bang for the way it has grown its ensemble and deepened its characters. That doesn't mean Modern Family has slipped. It means Big Bang has caught up.

BBT will take on 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Modern Family, and Veep in the category of "Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Comedy" at the Producers Guild Awards. The winners will be announced on Sunday, January 19th.

I hate to say it, but I think it's safe to say that this award will probably go to either Arrested Development or Modern Family. Critical darlings almost always get the rewards over more deserving shows, thanks to Hollywood politics. :(

'Big Bang Theory' Owes Its Success To Classic TV'

by Eric Deggans

"As 2013 ends, many TV critics are filling their best-of lists with unconventional comedies like Netflix's Orange is the New Black. But our critic says his pick is

this year's highest-rated television comedy, rooted in the style of old-school TV classics."

As much as I would like to see Mark Cendrowski win, it would be nice for Anthony Rich to win, as his father, John Rich has won a DGA award.   His father also won several Emmy's, including one while working for Producer Sheldon Leonard, on the Dick van Dyke show.

There weren't many comments on this story, but with a single exception, the ones that were there were the typical snobbish trash-talking that I expect whenever TBBT is discussed. Screw the snobs and the horse they rode in on.

I have no idea if this is the correct thread to post it or if it has been brought up before. So, sorry if it has. I just saw that photo

Jim, Melissa and Mayim look delighted by life. Johnny and Kunal are trying to look romantic (Johnny succeeds). Simon looks like he wants to welcome you, but needs to guard his genitals. Kayley is channeling the 18 year old daughter of my friend who ruined most of my group wedding pictures by making that face.
