I'm going to give this a try. Since the Pilot episode there seems to me there has been a Lenny ship. There's been ups and downs through the  6 years and now they have settled into being a couple. Many Lennys wish things were further along than they are. But we have endured. What many others including myself don't understand is the other ship has not endured as much as we have. The Molaro article gotten some people into a tizzy. It certainly didn't shed anything good on the Lenny but I haven't really seen any fellow Lennys complaining about the article.

But all suffering is in the present tense. Rafik Taught us that in the Lion King.

They make her fail! They think it makes her relationship with Leonard more feasible. That's the sad thing.

But how do they get a well paid actor to stay living there? It makes the show more feasible, doesn't it?

I guess people see what they want to see. You must be watching a different show than me. Leonard has always been supportive of Penny's career, if anyone has put her acting down, it's Sheldon. Sheldon even suggested she take a porn acting job since her career as an actress was so bad, I think you have you characters mixed up.

Maybe sheldon likes porn. I guess he rather see Penny than Amy. :icon_lol:

But would a successful acting career take Penny to a place where she wouldn't want or need Leonard?  It's been known to happen.  I would like to see her career grow a bit more but as a respectable actress and not like a "movie star"...

I think there is very little to suggest that. But it is a shortcut to money.

(This threads gonna die by nightfall, hahah).

Yeah I know. But to be honest, I think Leonard has a better shot at a threesome with them because both girls actually like him a lot.

Not to mention he's much closer to their age. Well one can dream.

Any other kind of job, something she can build on. Just not a loser job all her life, which she clearly hates. Even Kaley has said Penny is going nowhere. She's just being treated like a trophy on the show and being valued as someone's ideal fantasy. We all get older, no one stays beautiful forever. What will Penny and Leonard have then?

And thats why the relationship between sheldon and amy is more for zhe future, it doesnt just built on beauty and sex, on physically things, but on the mind, of interest, they have in common, on respect to each others mistakes and behaviour...

I agree that when you line up each "ship" that Shamy is much more suited for each other.  That being said though I do still like Leonard and Penny because while they may not be on the same intellectual level, I'm not sure that that would be a reason why a relationship couldn't last.  If you love someone, differences don't matter and I don't think that either Leonard or Penny are in it for the physical-ness of the relationship at the point it's at now.  That would make them both incredibly shallow I would think..

What about fans that like both Lenny and Shamy ships and can understand from both ship perspectives that Molaro's comments were over the top?   I find it interesting that Lenny and Shamy ships are at odds when many of us like both ships?  I don't get it.   Molaro's plans are very disturbing for both ships.   He has had every character on the show (other than Sheldon and Bernadette) have a crush on Penny thus far...Amy, Raj, Howard, Stuart and Leonard have all had crushes on her and either dated her or made it clear that they would have considered having a relationship with her.   So now what?  Steve feels he needs to tie up the last two starting with Sheldon?   To do so would change Sheldon completely.  He would not be the same character at all.  Neither would Penny be the same girl.  I just don't understand why both ships don't see that together and be concerned together.

I went through six years to see Lenny happy and now hearing this it sounds like they are happier apart than together.  That is sad.   We have gone three years with Shamy and they still can't seem to share any affection between them (although Sheldon seems to have no problem touching and showing affection to anyone else but his girlfriend which is disturbing).   I want to see both couples happy and moving ahead.   Not having ship wars or seeing something off-canon.

To me the appeal is the blatant irrationality of it. It breaks convention and is unlikely. Yay. It's no more weird than any princess/peasant fantasy that has been trundled out for generations. He just has intellectual capital, not capital.

That's bold, because it breaks the premise of the show. Then what?

Penny is the girl who gets by on her looks, she has more to learn from Sheldon than anyone because of this.

Leonard and Penny are the same thing over and over. One of them gets insecure, or jealous, then it's the other one's turn. And Penny is miserably unhappy and it's so obvious to fans of the character! She tries to put on a smile but it shows! She has been doing the same thing for 6 years. Completely stagnating and every time she tries to get out, there is just a big competition with Leonard and it fails. He doesn't bring out the best in her. She used to be the heart of the show, she cared about everyone and helped everyone. Now everyone is just waiting for the day when she realizes she has no other avenue open to her but to marry Leonard. I can't even imagine her as his wife. Penny is not going to be happy just being a wife, it's not what her character is all about but I know this is all they have planned for her. I find it depressing.

I for one do not find their relationship boring nor stagnant.  Leonard in fact DOES bring out the best in Penny, as is evident when one compares her actions when they are a couple as opposed to when they aren't.

i not agree.

I think sheldon is the heart of the show, without him and the amazing actor jim parsons noone would ever gonna watch the show... sheldon is what makes the caracters together, what makes the show so succesful as she is....

for me sheldon and amy are perfect, better that penny and leonard, because penny is always mocking leonard, she is mean and cold to leonards feelings... leonard told her that he loves her and she went away, she dated other guys watching leonard suffering...

I will agree that Sheldon, Jim Parsons, is funny and provides a lot of the comedy.  However, Sheldon without Leonard and Penny is nothing, especially without Leonard.  Without Leonard, Sheldon's character has no friends.  Howard and Raj are Leonard's friends and Sheldon would have never spoken to Penny when she moved in, even the tenant of 4B before Penny referred to Sheldon as "that crazy guy across the hall".  Also, there would be no Howard and Bernedette without Leonard and Penny, Penny set them up and there would not be a Shamy without Howard and Raj, they are the ones who signed up Sheldon for online dating.  There is nothing to Sheldon without the others especially Leonard.

Other than intellectual things what could Sheldon teach her?  And if she really wanted to know intellectual things why couldn't she just ask her boyfriend?

Sheldon wasn't even good at the intellectual thing.... remember S3E10 The Gorilla Experiment?

Sheldon is honest with Penny, she just coasts through life and gets by on her looks. He challenges her, fires her up and she needs that so much. Also he's such a smart ass but for all his intellect, she still manages to win. He thinks only a high IQ matters in life but he has so much to learn about that. She thick skinned and can handle him, she's strong and kind. This is how I feel but obviously it's not happening on the show. Yet I still think it would have been amazing.

Sheldon needs Leonard and he actually needs Howard and Raj.  I personally think he is at a point where Penny isn't needed in his life as much as Amy  and the other boys, but I do enjoy the bantering between Sheldon and Penny as siblings who argue and feel like they are talking to an alien when talking with each other.   But If Penny moved back to Nebraska Sheldon would still be funny and interesting with Leonard, Amy and the others.   I think the thing is, it is an ensemble and they all are there for a purpose.  Penny's purpose has been fulfilled to a certain extent, but she has not been allowed to grow as she should have been allowed.  She has spent so much time helping the guys that Penny lost herself in the shuffle.  That is why I would love to see them focus on her growing as an individual instead of leaning on Sheldon or anyone else.  She needs to figure out what her life goals are and what makes her happy besides her friends and Leonard.  Then I think she will gain more clarity and be ready to commit to Leonard.   But they continually try to just have her lean on others or the bottle and that is a shame.   It has sort of taken fun out of her character.

When she first moved in across the way, she was so independent and sure of herself.  Now she seems like she got swallowed up in everyone else's identity and has lost who she is.

Sheldon would be fine with continuing to grow with the help of the four guys, Amy and even Bernie's help.   Penny at this point has given him her all as far as what she can offer and he is willing to accept (assuming they want to keep Sheldon in canon).   But Penny is the one that has had the least amount of individual development.   I was disappointed that the writers went the route they claim they are going in the THR interview with Molaro because it shows that they are going to continue to not develop her as a person and that they have disregarded a lot of what they have built up over the last six years and even just in S6.   It baffles me that they are so wishy washy.

@sdm It never occurred to me that they can't write Penny as a spouse. Is that because it kills off the "aspirational hot chick"? And so Penny gets "relegated/promoted" to being Sheldon's fluffer? Is that an interpretation.

Sheldon is the neediest person on this or any other sitcom I can think of. He could not function as a rational human being without his 'friends'This would be true on apractical basis as well as emotional. Penny and Leonard have improved him far more than anything he has done for them. The sum total of this is 'please don't hurt my friend' and driving P to the ER.
