HollyAndOatmeal Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I don't know if its the writers timing or Mayim's delivery, but the line about they will have sex before Sheldon and I was so funny.. and honestly, when I read the taping report, I thought "not again"!! But it really didn't sound annoying or desperate ..it just was to laugh for!!! This is why there is no point getting agitated over taping reports! Chaliceinnana Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) agreed, it didn't sound bitter or anything like that it was just funny and nothing else Mayim was just adorable last night. She has a lot of smaller moments and a few larger one. It was a perfect supporting performance.  Right from the first scene where she happily listens to the boys get excited about new and improved over the counter medication right until the unexpectedly hilarious delivery of the line I was dreading. (admittedly it was made even better by Bernadette's silent agreement.)   It was a great show last night. Bob knocked it out of the park. All 4 of the boys showed real vulnerability. Leonard's honesty about the mutual affection and loyalty in his friendship with Sheldon was moving and surprising. Raj telling Howard that he needs the girls because they allow him to express his feelings without questioning his manhood and Howard's apology... that was mature and sensitive... what show was I watching?  Happily, in the tag, Raj made light saber belt buckles and started swiveling his hips. That's the stuff. Never change Raj.  I can't believe how much I love Raj this season. Edited November 8, 2013 by Chaliceinnana

I wasn't sure if I was going to like that he can talk to women now because it was one of the funny 'plot lines'. But, to my pleasant surprise, it made me love him so much more. And I LOVE that he is so close with the girls now.

And I LOVE that he is so close with the girls now. I was ready for the mutism to end (thank Cow!) I was just worried he was going to be just assholic to the girls as he was when drunk. It turns out he's a big, sweet bag of marshmallow fluff and fantastic activity ideas!  I did love that Amy and Penny tried to comfort him over his Mother. I can definitely see where his sweet, empathetic lady friends would be a more soothing choice to hang with. When the option is being remind he is the least manly man at a table with Howard, Leonard and Sheldon. Raj said it best, "I am still going to be the guy who got a girlfriend AFTER SHELDON COOPER!"  I love when the cast mixes it up. It's fun to see scenes with Raj and Howard and the girls. Amy shopping with Leonard and Sheldon where she gets to be the audience for Leonard smart ass comments. Leonard and Amy look like brother and sister.  Bad spot. Penny can't use glue. Cut pre-school for dates with a 2nd grader. Drinking a lot of wine. Come on writers. Do better for Penny.
denajeanx Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) I didn't like the Penny thing either. I did not even laugh, I actually cringed. I do not like when they make Penny seem stupid with simple stuff like that. I think it's funny when she doesn't understand their 'sciencey' stuff, because a majority of the population doesnt get it either. But, come on, GLUE?! And those ridiculous pigtail buns. Just UGH I agree. She went from being able to make hair accessories to this. They need to cut the "dumb blonde" crap already. Just like they need to stop with the Amy-is-desparate-for-sex jokes. Hell, I'd rather them just have sex already rather than listen to that over and over. Haha. Other than that, it was my favorite episode so far and I love how well Sheldon and Amy are doing. Â Ok, I might not be on a total forum break yet, because I just wanted to say ITA. Gosh I am so fed up with the Amy jokes. They are literally one an episode and they totally ruin the mood of the progress Shamy have been making. I read the report for next week's episode today (since I got spoiled for 7x09, might as well do so for 7x08) and I loved the whole Shamy interaction, especially Sheldon confessing about reading the book on trying to be stop trying to control everything and enjoy life, which I think is huge in terms of their relationship (I always thought one of the reasons sex is such an issue for him is the degree of control he would have to give up in that context). And they end the episode on ANOTHER Amy is desperate joke. IT IS NOT FUNNY ANYMORE!!! Either you follow it up with something and *deliver* on Sheldon's physical side or you *stop* making those jokes. Shamy is fine wine at the moment and these jokes are like spitting into a glass of fine wine.
rachelshamyfan Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Its frustrating because we know from 6'23 that she accepted what Sheldon said and from that they have progressed massively in the early part of s7

koops Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 well, it didn't bother me but I can see how some of you wouldn't like it.  Anyway, hopefully the writers will get a hint like they did with Amy's remarks regarding Penny and they will stop it.  It's not the isolated joke that bothers me, and, honestly, Mayim could deliver a line about a broken toaster or dead puppies and make it funny.  I have a problem with the fact that they constantly have to put one joke like that in every episode and if you read around the web, that's all people pick up on. They don't pick up on the progress and the subtleties of Shamy or Sheldon, they pick up on the one line about Amy being frustrated and Sheldon not putting out. And I bet that's how most superficial viewers would describe their relationship. Which, IMO, is incredibly simplistic and unfair. But the writers aren't helping their case by putting one joke in every episode (and they have, maybe 7x03 was the only one who didn't have it this season). It's like the "gay for Penny" thing all over again, like you said. Yes, one joke here and there is funny, but when it becomes constant it starts defining her character and the relationship, and we are meant to believe that Amy is all in all content with waiting on Sheldon and who is aware of the progress he is making. These jokes really cheapen that, imo, because they're the ones that stick in people's minds. I don't understand how they haven't gotten the hint yet, people were complaining about it last year already.

I thought it was hilarious! Since the audience laughed, I'm guessing they agreed. I can see why some people wouldn't like it, but I'm glad I'm able to still laugh at most of the jokes in this series.  P.S. If any of you talk to this Marina character, tell her the next time she calls me a "fucking asshole" and a "piece of shit" that she will not only have to answer to me, but she will have to answer to my *gasp* wife as well. Edited November 8, 2013 by HollyAndOatmeal

phantagrae Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I see it as Amy being able to joke about it herself, kind of self-deprecating, but for the two of them. But it doesn't strike me as anything more than her noticing when Sheldon uses some turn of phrase that one might use in a sexual connotation, when he's not intending that, like the "Sheldon Cooper does not get lucky" line. No one is talking about sex, but she catches the double meaning, and kind of makes fun of her own situation. I think that if she were really desperate or pathetic about it, she wouldn't be joking about it.  Same thing with last night's line. I don't think she actually thinks that Howard and Raj are going to have sex, but she's kind of acknowledging the depth of their bromance by contrasting it with her own chaste relationship. But it doesn't strike me as some kind of desperation, just a quip she makes at her own (light-hearted) expense.  It's kind of like when people make fun of their own lack of a sex-life or whatever. I think that knowing that Sheldon is "working on it" give her the freedom to joke about it. I thought it was hilarious! Since the audience laughed, I'm guessing they agreed. I can see why some people wouldn't like it, but I'm glad I'm able to still laugh at most of the jokes in this series.  P.S. MJistheBOMB Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I agree with you, Phanta that she definitely isn't desperate. I guess I used the wrong word there. But just the joke itself gets old because it's almost like the writers want Shamy to start moving along physically but instead of acting on it, they have Amy say things like that. Anyway, I agree with you and Holly. We should be free to disagree with something without someone putting us down for it. I surely didn't appreciate the "even Digusted thinks that Shamys lack feminists chops" remark. I was pleasant when I disagreed. I would hope to get the same treatment back. Â Yup, that's my only problem. I would actually have absolutely no problem whatsoever with BOTH Sheldon and Amy making jokes about their lack of a sex life. Sheldon maybe in his own way, he wouldn't make the kind of slang-remarks Amy makes, of course, but making the audience aware that he is working on it and can take his own issues with humor. It's when it's one sided only on Amy's side and when they never follow it up with some sort of sexual interest on Sheldon's part that it starts to get old. It's time they start making Sheldon's "deal" much clearer to the audience, even if they don't want to act upon it just yet.

Redrose Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Actually I don't care what usual viewers see. I care about what we, shamy shippers, see. And yes, the progress in general is clear for us. The problem is that those stupid jokes are getting old and less or not funny at all. Like you said, It's ok to play with their sexless life but we need a newer perspective, like Sheldon's POV ( which could continue to demonstrate us that is working on it, beginning to really desire it, getting interested in more physical aspect of Amy...)Â or at least, for Amy's side, another twist in her jokes that does not make it sounds despair, sex starved or complaining. shamylove Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Hi all! I've been on a spoiler hiatus, but was spoiled for 7x09 and then read the taping report for 7x08 ... So, while I dip my toe back into spoilerland, I have to say that I feel like the writers are going to deliver. That's not just wishful thinking. I mean, if they don't, at this point, it's not good writing. It's all build up with no pay off. Given that Sheldon can't help but swat her bottom and say how great she is when he's drinking, added to her one-liners about the lack of sex, they are due to have some physical contact, hopefully by January. That's my slightly educated guess on plot/pacing. Of course, I could be 100 percent wrong ... and frustrated. Â Â Anyway, I'm not going to sweat it -- yet. Catlina Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I think Amy's love for Sheldon is like a little drops of water that are gathering to a a small bowl of is heart. Little drops because once he had sheltered his heart so tightly from the world in the past, and her love can't effect yet in its whole entity but like a little drops of water that slowly revive his heart. Like Leonard said he is a little broken. But once that cup is full, it will run over and Amy will get a awkward but sweet indemnity. At that point Sheldon can't hold back his emotions anymore, her unconditional love will be just too overwhelming for him. At some point that will happen. It has to be like that because of the long waiting. That is how I see it.
notchinc Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 The entire Itchy episode is a setup for Sheldon's final line about waiting eternity for satisfaction. Â So when the writers spend a whole episode setting up for a Shamy no sex punchline, it kind of makes you hopeful that something is coming. Â But, Season 7 may just be a season of no sex punchlines............15 more episodes to go
