gaqo Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) Got the remastered version of The Queen is Dead by The Smiths so I've been listening to that. I've been deciding whether to get the whole remastered collection. Particularly love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9DH0_b3F1c not sure many artists would dare write a song about this topic, and that first album is badly recorded! The problem is, I don't like owning stuff like CDs, and the download is MP3. My music is WAV format on a hard drive, I play through a media player. I heard classical music is now being offered for download in studio quality format. Can't wait until they do that for all music! cygnus Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 An album called Ultimate Dreamer by Queen. It's a ROIO recorded in Osaka, Japan on 19/4/79. A similar set list to the official Live Killers album but with added songs that made up the entire show. Decent sound quality for a ROIO, too. Even if they crowd noise is a bit overwhelming. gaqo Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 I'm trying to work my way through the forty-four thousand internet radio stations available. So feel free to recommend any, as it's a daunting task! I'm recently listening to 'Soma FM: Deep Space', which if you close your eyes, is like having your own soundtrack, while travelling through space in the Nostromo! ATOB Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Queens of the Stone Age, ...Like Clockwork. It's a grower! Was a bit 'meh' when we first played it. I find the bottle-neck guitar in 'I sat by the ocean' has a strange physiological effect on me, a bit like Corrine Bailey Rae's 'Are You Here'; some sort of sublime je ne sais quoi! gaqo Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Yes Corrine's got an amazing voice. I seem to remember she went through a difficult time a while back, and it's added an emotional depth to her voice! I first heard The XX at Glasto a few years ago. Couldn't work out where they'd come from, or what their influences were, but they've slowly grown on me. I heard they put on an amazing show in Manchester, where fans were led down an old basement corridor, into a small room where the band were playing. At some point the walls fell away, to reveal they were in a large underground space. A crossover between music and theatre!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_Fjx93FhKw

I'm not a massive fan to be honest, it's just that this song moves me. The extended chorus is almost ethereal, it has a confusing, mystical quality to it that makes my hair stand on end. Liked The XX, Angels. Do you like Damien Rice, reminded me of his 'O' album? Edited October 11, 2013 by AThingOfBeauty
