Tensor Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 (edited) Week 1, 22 September 2013 While the full overnights won't be released for another couple hours, there is some news. I normally concentrate on the demo and total viewers, however we won't have those until the overnights are released. In Terms of Households (remember that 114,000,000 from the first post) The one hour long preview of TBBT came in with an 11.9 rating and a 20 share. Both of which are up from last years 10.5 and a 17 share 9.3 with a 16 share. A ~20% year to year increase. More as it becomes available.ETA: If the 15% increase holds for total viewers, then there is a possibility that the premiere could hit 18 Million viewers.Another edit. the struck out numbers were for the Live + 7. The 9.3 and 16 share were the daily numbers for last years premiere Overnights The overnights are in and Just WOW. For the hour, TBBT pulled in a 5.7 demo and 18.90 million viewers. Up from last years 5.0 and 15.66 million viewers. As for each episode, 7.01 had a 5.3 with 18.30 million and 7.02 had a 5.8 with 19.51 million. TBBT hit 19 million twice last year, both times in January, when the ratings are genereally the highest. A full report will be put up later this afternoon, when the full numbers come in. I expect the first half hour to increase a bit (it ran to 8:31) and the second half hour to drop a bit. But it will even out. Comparison for the week will be included in the update. Just for reference no other series has hit 5.0 in the demo, yet.Final Ratings 6:15 PM OK, the Thursday (9/27/13) night final numbers are in. And it just gets more amazing. It's just silly, the numbers this show is pulling down at this point in its run.On Thursday night TBBT Averaged a 5.8 demo with 19.74 million viewers. The first half hour, 7.01 The Hofstadter Insufficiency came in with a 5.5 demo and 18.99 Million viewers. The second half hour, 7.02 The Deception Verification finished with a demo of 6.1 and 20.44 million viewers, making it the most watched program in the series run. Beating The Bakersfield Expedition at 20.00 Million. Hell, the first episode was the fourth highest ever. The premiere, 7.01 was up vs last year, again, in the demo (5.5 - 5.0 up 10%) and in viewers (18.99 - 15.6 million up 21%). This was the biggest premiere for TBBT. Compared to the other shows last night, of those watching Broadcast television last night 54.5% were watching TBBT. Yes, that means that TBBT, during it's timeslot, had more viewers than the rest of broadcast television combined. Only two shows were over a 3.0 last night, besides TBBT. The Crazy Ones, which was TBBT lead out, hit 4.0. Greys Anatomy, and hour long drama, hit 3.4. There was only one other show that hit 15 Million viewers, and that was, The Crazy Ones, with 15.60.TBBT had the highest demo for the week at 6.1. Highest demo for other shows were 5.1 for Monday's The Voice and a tie at 4.7 for Marvel Agents of SHEILD and the Tuesday edition of The Voice. Note that both nights of The Voice were 2 hour shows. In terms of total viewers, With 20.44 million viewers, TBBT was number one for the week , followed by NCIS with 20.02 million and TBBT at 18.99. I generally ignore Sunday Night Football (SNF) here as it is usually number one in both demo and viewers. If a scripted or reality show beats SNF, I'll report it.An interesting side note, Two and a Half Men, without TBBT lead in, dropped six tenths in the demo(3.6 - 2.9).Canadian As more info comes in, I'll add it. By setting another series record (IN THEIR SEVENTH YEAR), TBBT has broken it's own series record five times in the last year. The US wasn't the only country where TBBT was setting records. Seems that people in Canada love this show also. The back to back episodes broke records on Thursday. The Hofstadter Insufficiency pulled in 4.31 million viewers, a record for a TBBT series premiere. The The Deception Verification that followed had the largest audience ever for the series in Canada, with 4.61 million viewers. Some interesting tidbits about the Canadian Breakouts:Between 8-9 p.m, as in the US, over half of all English-language viewers were watching THE BIG BANG THEORY on CTV. In Toronto, the premiere pulled down a 17.6 rating for A18-34. In just Ontario alone, more people watched the show (2.2 million people) than any other program broadcast across Canada Thursday night. The A25-54 and A18-49 splits also have over 2 million viewers for each episode. To give everyone an idea how huge and dominant TBBT was in Canada on Thursday, GREY'S ANATOMY was the second most watched show on Thursday with 2.01 million total viewers, less than half of TBBT show totals and less than the the different demos, which are smaller subsets of the total and less than watched TBBT in one province. Tensor Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 (edited) Week 2, 29 September 2013Monday, 30 September, 2013 Alternative Ratings Normally, in this slot, would be the Live + 7 data. However, there is a two week delay in the release of this data, and as this is the second week, we won’t get, the Live + 7 for the first time until next week. So, in place of if the Live + 7, I’m going to introduce everyone to two other different ways of looking at the ratings. The website, Spotted Ratings has two different ways to look at it. (All numbers in this post are from Spotted Ratings). One is called 18-49+ (or, for shorthand, as the site calls it, Plus). This method normalizes the average show for the particular season at 100. Then, shows can be looked at how well they did against the average for that year and be compared between years. The formal explanation and equations can be found here This is very handy at comparing different seasons. Since around 2000, broadcast television viewing has dropped precipitously (an average of 9% per year). This makes comparing seasons on the basis of raw numbers, almost impossible. For instance, TBBT averaged 5.25 in the 18-49 last year. How does that compare to shows from previous seasons? If we look at another Chuck Lorre show, Two and a Half Men (TAAHM), we find that in 2004-2005 it had a a 18-49 demo of 5.86, that’s over a half a point higher than TBBT in 2012-2013. Here’s the difference, that 5.86 in 2004-2005, based on the drop in broadcast viewing, would be equivalent to 3.04 18-49 rating today. Using the Plus rating, that would be a 144 (remember, the average for the season is 100). This system pegs that season as a hit (near big hit). So, what’s that 5.25 for BBT work out to be in the Plus? Well, the plus rating for TBBT last year worked out to be a 249. The second highest season for a comedy since 2000. Only Friends last year, at 300, was bigger. It’s raw 18-49 rating was 12.19, which would be a 6.33 now. To see how this comparison works, at Spotted Ratings, there are various comparisons, called The Top 10 of the last 10. The top ten comedy seasons over the last ten years . Note that three of those seasons are by TBBT.The other Measure used on Spotted Ratings is called True. It takes into account viewing levels (more people viewing on a night means more people available to watch), how big of a lead-in the show has (the more people the previous show has, people may not bother to change the channel), competition (the bigger the shows your going against, the less people available to watch your show). The specifics of these calculations can be found on Spotted Ratings here . Posted Tuesday 1 October, 2013 Weekly Rankings Week 1 Sept 22-28, 2013) Sunday Night Football (SNF) was number one in both demo and viewers for the first week in the TV season. TBBT, place both shows in the top five in demo (2 and 3) and Viewers (2 and 4). Interestingly, the other two spots in both demo and viewers was filled by same franchise. The Voice finished 4 and 5 in the demo and an NCIS show finished 3 and 5 in viewers. The top ten follows. The Crazy Ones benifited from their TBBT lead in. In the 9:01 minute on Thursday, TBBT had a 6.8 demo rating (remember, TBBT at 8 PM ran to 8:31 and the 8:30 show ran to 9:01). We'll find out just how big when we see next weeks numbers. TBBT placed two shows in the top three for the week and it was the Number one and two scripted show. The closest scripted show was Marvel Agents of SHEILD at 4.7. The closest half hour comedy was Modern Family at 4.2, almost two full points behind the second half hour of Big Bang. TBBT was the only scripted show to be in the top five in both viewers and demo. The only other scripted show to make both lists was, The Crazy Ones, and we have to wait until next week to see if it holds up. One, interesting point, TBBT was within ~50,000 viewers of SNF. Since DVRing of Football isn't significant (if someone is going to watch the game, they do it at the time it is one) I would expect TBBT to beat SNF for total viewers, once the a "Live +" numbers start coming in. We'll cover Syndication tomorrow. Tensor Posted on 2 October, 2013 Syndication for Week 1. During the first week of the Television season, TBBT finished in third place, behind Judge Judy(JJ) and Wheel of Fortune (WF). In the household rating (we normally look at the 18-49 demo, but in syndication, it's more how many households and total viewers), JJ was first with a 7.1, WF had a 6.4[and TBBT was at 6.1. WF was first in viewers with 9.96 million, JJ had 9.67 and TBBT with 9.63. The weekend version of TBBT on TBS finished in 7th place with a 4.7 household rating and 6.58 million viewers. If you look at the syndication ratings, you'll notice that four of the top ten (including the #1 and #3 programs) were football. Due to a quirk of how the ratings are collected, football shows up in the syndication ratings, although it shouldn't. What happens is that it is published with the syndication, then basically ignored on the list . The following is an interesting little tidbit. It was in a press promoting the NFL telecasts, but there was a mention of something else: Since Labor Day, NFL game telecasts rank as the nine most-watched shows on television and are the only programs along with the season premieres of CBS’ The Big Bang Theory (20.4 million) and NCIS(20.0 million) to draw at least 20 million viewers. News, notes and answers to questions, Week 2 OK, I mentioned that I expected that once the Live + data started coming in, we'd see TBBT move to number 1 in viewers. Well, here's the thing. I can't find anything about the Live + 3 lift for Sunday Night Football (SNF), which tells me there wasn't much of a lift (not that I expected one). However, TBBT had a 3 day lift of 3.93 million viewers for the 8 PM show, taking it to 22.92 million viewers. At 8:30, TBBT added 4.23 Million bringing the total after three days to 24.67 million. In the demo, the increase was 1.8 (to a 7.3. A 33% Increase) at 8 PM, and a 1.8 point increase (to a 7.9). I want to point out that near the end of last year, TBBT was pulling in 4 to 4.5 million additional viewers FOR THE LIVE + 7. This past week, they pulled in that amount of additional viewers in three days. These increases should make TBBT the #1 show for the week. Ok, TBBT has crossed the 23 million viewer threshold twice in Live + 7. "The Egg Salad Equivalency" hit 23.38 and "The Bakersfield Expedition" hit 23.81, with 7 day lifts of 4.13 and 3.81, respectively.Three day totals, for Thursday, are 22.92 and 24.44, on lifts of 3.93 and 4.23. Notice that the three day totals are almost as high, in one case, and beat it, in the other case for last year's 7 day totals. This year's three day lift is a bit higher than the 7 day lift last year. Thursday Overnights, Week 2, Posted October 4, 2013 The overnights are out and TBBT had a 5.0 demo, with 17.75 million viewers. It was the highest rated demo (by almost a point and a half) and the most viewers(by four and a half million). Again, TBBT had over 50% of viewers at 8:00 PM. In Demo, TBBT beat the other three shows combined by a 5.0 to 4.5 and in viewers 17.75 to 13.01 Million. As a note, "The Crazy Ones", which last week had a 3.9 demo, with TBBT as a lead in dropped to a 2.9, with the new show "The Millers" as its lead in. A full report will be put up later, after the Thursday finals are available. Historically, TBBT increases by 1-3 tenths in demo and 500-750 thousand viewers when the finals come out.TensorNote, the strike out above, was due to the early ratings not reporting the "Scandal" season reviews. With that reported the other four shows had a 6.1 demo (TBBT 5.0) and the other four now have about a million viewers more than TBBT. Thursday Final Ratings, Week 2, Posted October 4, 2013 Ok, here we go on the finals. TBBT had a 5.2 with 18.22 million. That made it the high in viewers and demo for the night. Second and third in demo were Scandal, at 3.6 and the Millers at 3.0. In viewers second and third were The Millers, with 13.09 and The Crazy Ones with 11.71. As a note the highest other show in TBBT time slot was The X Factor at 2.0 and 7.13. I mentioned last week that we will see how well The Crazy Ones did without TBBT lead in. It lost a full rating point in the demo and just under four million viewers although both the demo and number of viewers were higher than The Millers (3.9, 15,52 million).Total viewers were lower than last week, by about 5% (18.99-18.22)(I'm talking about the 8 PM show, the 8:30 show was out of the timeslot, although that was up over 74% over the Season Premiere of Two and a Half Men last year.), but was still the sixth highest ever. All six episodes that have the highest number of viewers have come in 2013. Three in the spring of last year, and the first three episodes this year. In demo, it was down ~6% (5.5-5.2) and Year over Year (for the third episode) the show was up 28% in viewers (14.23-18.22) and up 15% in demo (4.5-5.2).So far this year, after three episodes, the demo average is up 16%(4.8-5.6) and viewers are up 27% (15.02-19.22, yes that's 19.22 million for Live + Same Day, and yes that is up over four million viewers, these numbers are just silly). For an interesting comparison, on Thursday night,at 8 PM, against TBBT, "Parks and Recreation" had 3.14 million viewers, total.I have been doing the weekly comparisons here, but I will start doing those comparisons on Tuesday, when we get the weekly results.Tensor Edited December 13, 2013 by Tensor
Tensor Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 (edited) Week 3, 6 October 2013Tuesday, October 8,2013. Week 2 RankingsI'm going to start out saying there were not Live + 7 results yesterday. They are released on Monday, but they are released two weeks after the report period ends. Not the beginning. So apologies if anyone was expecting thoseThere are a couple of things in the ratings this week that I am not counting, as they are the run over of the Football games. Since this isn't something that is normal, I'm going to ignore them as ratings. Sunday Night Football (SNF) led the demo for the week and NCIS had the most viewers. TBBT, was number 3 demo and number 2 in viewers. The only other show to be in the top 5 in both was SNF, which was #5 in viewers. The top ten follows. Show 18-49 18-49 viewers SNF 7.0 8,875,000SNF Pregame 5.2 6,609,000TBBT 5.2 6,584,000The Voice (Mon) 4.7 5.922,000The Voice (Tue) 4.5 5,697,000Modern Family 4.2 5,369,000SNF Night in America 4.1 5,211,00060 Minutes 3.8 5,936,000Scandal 3.6 5,215,000NCIS 3.5 4,912,000 I mentioned last week that we would see how The Crazy Ones did without TBBT lead in, well, it dropped from a 3.9 to a 2.9 in demo. And it went from 15.5 to 11.7 million viewers ( a drop of almost four million viewers). However, TCO did have a higher demo than The Millers by over a half a point (3.9-3.6) and had over 2 million more viewers (15.5 to 13.1 million) It's also interesting to point out that TCO were only 1.3 million behind The Millers this week. This gives an idea of just how much help TBBT gives to a following series. Total Viewers Show Total viewers NCIS 19,978,000TBBT 18,216.00060 Minutes 17,939.000SNF 17,686.000NCIS:LA 15,086,000The Voice (Mon) 14,539,000The Voice (Tue) 14,119,000SNF Pregame 13,285.000Dancing With the Stars 13,100,000The Millers 13,093.000 In total viewers, TBBT finished behind NCIS by 1.7 million viewers. As TBBT usually has ~2 million more viewers than NCIS in Live + 7, it will be close for the #1 show, once those numbers come in. One very interesting thing is that Sunday Night Football finished FOURTH in viewers, something that I can't remember seeing. It's almost a constant in the top 2 (with an occasional drop to #3), but fourth is new. 60 Minutes is on the list for the first time, mostly due to the football run over.I mentioned last week that we would have to watch the gains from DVR viewers as TBBT was probably going to surpass SNF for the number one spot, after including DVR viewers. Well, TBBT passed Sunday Night Football when the Live + 3 was numbers came out. It also picked up 1.8 demo points to move to number one in demo also. We'll cover Syndication tomorrow. Tensorposted on 11 October, 2013 Syndication for Week 2 OK, don't know what happened here, I wrote this, but must not have hit post on Wednesday. So, here goes with the syndicated ratings for week 2. Judge Judy (JJ) was number 1 in households for week two with a 6.9 rating. Number 2 was Wheel of Fortune (WF) with a 6.6 and Jeopardy was #3 with 6.0. In total viewers, WF lead with 10.4 million viewers, JJ was number 2 with 9.3 million and Jeopardy was #3 at 9.2 million. TBBT was number four in both with a 5.9 in households and 9.0 million viewers. The weekend edition finished in 6th with a 4.5 household rating with 7.3 million viewers. Syndicated telecasts are below where they finished last year, although nothing notable year to year. Rating for TBBT will be low or non=existent as TBS will have the Baseball playoffs. As a note, Modern Family premiered this week in syndication with a 4.1 household rating and 6.1 million viewers. The weekend version had a 2.8 household rating with 4.3 million viewers. While below TBBT this week, it is also below the premier numbers of TBBT.Notes and comments for week Three posted 9 October, 2013So far, after six games, SNF is down, on average, by over a million viewers. The real interesting part is that it is down by over a half a ratings point, in demo. Last year, after six games, the average number of viewers was at 22.5 million, this year, its at 21.5 (as an interesting side light, if you take out the Thursday game, for each season, the difference in viewers climbs to 1.7 million per game. This years first game had more viewers than last year) In terms of demo, the difference last year (9.1) to this year (8.5) is 0.6 (again, if you take out the first game, the different becomes 0.8, (9.0 to 8.2).The addition of the first game and some more accurate numbers shows the difference between SNF(21.6) and TBBT (19.3) is now over 2 million and in demo the difference is 2.9 (SNF 8.5 and TBBT 5.6) from my previous post.We could blame SNF decline on the general trend, in broadcast television, downward (Interestingly, both this week's game and the same date last year were the first SNF games to go below 20 million), as the declines are within errors of the percentage decline for SNF. However, that just make the numbers TBBT is putting up all that much more impressive. Total viewers are up, on average, over 4 million (up 27 %) and up in demo 0.8 (17%) from last year.I just saw that the Live + three day increase, for DVR viewers, for 7.03, was the highest ever for TBBT. 4.39 million, bringing the three day total to 22.61 Million. With that number, TBBT is averaging 4.18 million additional viewers through three days. In total viewers, after three days, it is averaging almost 23 and a half million viewers (23.4). Those are the three day totals. Last year, the LIVE + 7 average, after the first three shows was 19 million, with an increase in viewers of just under four million. This year's three day DVR lift is averaging more than last year's seven day DVR lift. In the demo, last year's Live + 7 average, after three episodes, was 6.6. This year's Live + 3 average is 7.4, and increase of almost a point, in less time.posted 11 Oct, 2013I think they will, but in viewers, there were about a million less and demo was down 2 tenths from last week's overnights. TBBT had an 18 share, in demo, two points higher than last week. That means that, of the people with their TV on, 18% of them were watching TBBT, equal to all the other broadcast shows. Last week, the total of the other shows shares were three tenths higher than TBBT. So, while the raw numbers seem to be down, they are down for all the shows, and in general, down more than TBBT.Overnights 11 October, 2013The overnights are out and TBBT had a 4.9 demo, down three tenths with 17.19 million viewers, down about . It was the highest rated demo (by over a point and a half(1.8.) and the most viewers(by five and a quarter million). Again, TBBT had just under 50% of viewers at 8:00 PM. As a note, "The Crazy Ones", which last week had a 3.9 demo, with TBBT as a lead in dropped to a 2.9 last week and dropped another half a point this week to 2. "The Millers" did respectable this week. It lost two tenths of a point from last week, but TBBT lost three tenths, so The Millers retained more audience than they did last week. A full report will be put up later, after the Thursday finals are available. Historically, TBBT increases by 1-3 tenths in demo and 500-750 thousand viewers when the finals come out. We'll see how that works this week, just about all the shows are down this week, so I'll look at the percentage drop then.TensorFinals 11 October, 2013Ok, here we go on the finals. TBBT had a 5.1 with 17.64 million. That made it the high in viewers and demo for the night. Second and third in demo were Scandal, at 3.1 and the Millers at 3.0. In viewers second and third were The Millers, with 11.73 and The Crazy Ones with 9.69. As a note the highest other show in TBBT time slot was The X Factor at 2.0 and 6.94. An interesting sidelight, Total Viewers for NBC for the entire night was 12.75 million viewers with a total 4.2 demo. NBC's totals for the night were ~5 million viewers less and almost a full ratings point below TBBT.Total viewers were lower than last week, by about 4% (18.22-17.64), In demo, it was down ~2% (5.2-5.1) and Year over Year (for the third episode) the show was up 12% in viewers (15.73-17.64) and up 6% in demo (5.1-4. .So far this year, after four episodes, the demo average is up 15%(4.8-5.5) and viewers are up %23 (15.20-18.82)I'm going to have to check, but I think, so far this year, TBBT is the only entertainment show to break a 5 in the demo, I know it is the only one to break a 6. Note the strikeout. The Voice has broken a five twice. That is out of eight, two hour shows. TBBT has had a higher rating than five for all four of it's half hour shows.Tensor Edited December 13, 2013 by Tensor
Tensor Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 (edited) Week 4 13, October, 2013 Week 4 Live + 7 14 October, 2013Based on week 1 ratings.OK, the following numbers are so ridiculous that I've been looking at these things and just shaking my head. The first week Live + 7 numbers came out a bit early. These were the premier week numbers. For the 8 PM show (7.01 The Hofstadter Insufficiency), total viewers ended up at 24.16 million viewers, which was a series high for TBBT. The lift (number of viewers watching on DVR over the last seven days) came in at 5.17 million, which was a series high for lift. In terms of demo, there was a 2.3 point increase, tying the highest ever for the show. This gave the 8 PM show a total demo of 7.8. That was not a series high, as TBBT hit 8.0 or higher three times last year, hitting the high of 8.3 for The Bakersfield ExpeditionThose new series highs did not last long. At 8:30 PM, 7.02 The Deception Verification had a total of 26.15 million viewers on a lift of 5.71 million viewers. Both are series highs. In terms of demo, there was a lift of 2.5 points to a total of 8.6. Again, both series highs. What has to be remembered is that the series highs were set in the November-February time frame when TV viewing is at it's height. This show is currently setting series highs in, what was last year, the least viewed part of the year. If, and this is a huge if, considering how high it's viewership is already at, it picks up the four and a half million viewers it did between the premier and the viewing high in January, it has a chance to hit 30 million viewers for at least a show. For the week, TBBT was at number one and two for demo with the 8.6 (8:30 PM) and 7.8 (8 PM. In third place was Marvel:Agents of SHIELD with a 7.0. The closest half hour comedy was Modern Family at 6.2. For viewers, TBBT was number one and number three with 26.15 million (8:30 PM) and 24.16 million (8 PM). NCIS was in between the two in second with 24.67 million. The closest half hour comedy was, The Crazy Ones which had over 19 million, but as it followed the second half hour of TBBT, it's starting point was rather out of the normal. The highest half hour comedy, without an assist from TBBT was, again, Modern Family, with 15.94 million viewers.Compared to the first two weeks of last year, viewer lift was up 40%(3.86-5.44 million) and demo lift was up 33%(1.8-2.4). Total viewers was up 30% (19.28-25.15 million) and total demo was up 22% (6.7-8.2)A couple of comparisons. This past Thursday, NBC aired new episodes of Parks and Recreation at 8 PM and Welcome to the Family at 8:30 PM. Their total combined live + SD total viewers was 5.72 million and a demo of 2.0. The LIFT ALONE for the second half hour of premier week for TBBT (7.02 The Deception Verification was 5.71 million with a demo of 2.5. So, counting only DVR viewers for TBBT, it was within 10,000 viewers of the total for the two shows and beat the demo by a half a point. The 20.44 million of Live + SD viewers for the 8:30 PM show was more than any shows Live + 7, except for NCIS (which hit 24 million) Also, that TBBT show had a 6.1 demo for the Live + SD. Marvel: Agents of SHEILD, at 7.0 and Modern Family at 6.2 were the only shows to beat TBBT Live + SD demo rating with their Live + 7.The last four shows in 2012-2013 were highest four lifts the show has ever had. It hit 5 million once and the average for those four shows was 4.8 million. For the first two episodes this year, both hit five million and their average is 5.44 million, up 600,000 viewers. One could say that the trend in DVR viewing is up (over ten series hit four million DVR viewers), but a 40% increase in DVR viewers and an almost 30% increase of Live viewers is way too high, with what is happening in the industry. That TBBT is accomplishing this, is just simply amazing.I mentioned earlier this year that SNF did not usually gain much in DVR viewing. It's original numbers were 20.49 million viewers with a demo of 7.6. It's Live + 7 numbers were 21.00 million with a 7.6 demo. Up about 500,000 viewers and no gain in the demo (there was a gain, ~1% it was just so small it didn't change rating point numbers).TensorTuesday, October 15,2013. Weekly Rankings Week 3There are a couple of things in the ratings this week that I am not counting, as they are the run over of the Football games. Since this isn't something that is normal, I'm going to ignore them as ratings. Sunday Night Football (SNF) led the demo and had the most viewers for the week. TBBT, was number 2 demo and number 3 in viewers, pretty much where it was most of last year. The top ten in demo follows. As TBBT usually has ~4.5+ million more viewers than SNF in Live + 7, it will again be close for the #1 show. As TBBT usually has 2 million more than NCIS, it should be that easily, once those numbers come in. SNF returned to it's number one spot in Live + SD for demo and total viewers. We'll cover Syndication tomorrow. TensorEncore Ratings, Monday 14 October, 2013Monday had all new shows, except for an Encore run of "The Closet Reconfiguration". Ratings for this was a 2.2 demo and 8.49 million viewers. It finished sixth in demo (there were 13 total shows) and fifth in total viewers. It's 2.2 was higher than the cancelled "We Are Men" demo of 1.9 and it had 2.5 million more viewers. Although it was down about a ratings point and about 2 million viewers from the encore ratings last year. Those shows were encores of the then current season and were not going again The Voice. So, once CBS starts rerunning season seven shows, and the fall voice is over, we'll see how the ratings react.Preliminary 30 second spot ad rates for 2013-2014 15 October, 2013 Ok, I've got to do some research to get the whole post up, but 30 second spot rates were released today and TBBT is the number one entertainment program at $326,000 (up 51,000). This is quite a bit below what I thought, but it appears ad rates dropped drastically this year. So an increase of 51,000 per spot is quite an achievement. There was some talk at the up fronts that sales were soft, this pretty much confirms it. The top show was Sunday Night Football at $570,000(+25,000) per spot. Those shows above 200,000 per spot, starting with the second place show was The Voice (Monday) at $265,000 (up +24,000), third was Modern Family at $257,500 (-73,000), The Simpsons at $256,000 (-30,000), New Girl 231,500 (-89,000), The Voice (Tuesday) 229,000 (+4,000), Family Guy 223,000 (-53,000), Grey's Anatomy 206,000 (-20,000), Two and a Half Men 204,000 (-43,000) and Scandal 201,000 (+62,000).The number of show above 250,000 per spot this year dropped by 2 to five. The number of shows above 200,000 per spot went from 16 to 10. Many of the shows are below and far below what they were last year and many fell hard. Another post on this will be here Thursday with analysis, I just wanted to get the numbers out there. A word of warning, these are estimates, and although quite close, do not think these numbers are actual prices, the networks hold them closely.TensorWeek 4 Syndication 16 October 2013Judge Judy (JJ) had the highest household rating with a 6.8. Wheel of Fortune(WF) was at 6.7 and Jeopardy(JY)10.4 million was number three with 6.0. In viewers WF was number 1 with 10.4 million, JJ had 9.3 Million and JY had 9.0 Million. TBBT was fourth in both measures, with a 5.1 household rating and 7.9 Million viewers. TBS is broadcasting the baseball playoffs and this could be affecting TBBT as shows are cut during the broadcast of the playoffs. The weekend edition of TBBT was in eighth place, with a 3.8 rating and 5.8 million viewers.TensorThursday Final Ratings 18 October 2013As expected, TBBT rose three tenths in the demo to a 5.2 rating. It increased by 600,000 viewers to 17.8 million(cough, cough, see post above, 17.75 million). It beat last week's demo 5.2 -5.1(+4%) and viewers 17. 80 - 17.64(+1%).TBBT was the leader in viewers and demo. Second and third in viewers were The Millerswith 12.27 and Scandal with 9.51 million viewers. In demo, Scandal came in second with a 3.3 rating and The Millers was third with a 3.2. The next highest rating in TBBT slot was the baseball playoffs with a 2.5. All the scripted shows were under a 2.Compared to the fifth episode last year (The Holographic Excitation), Ratings were up two tenths 5.0-5.2(4%) and up by two million viewers 15.8-17.8 (13%). Overall, for the year, after five episodes, demo average is up six tenths, 4.8-5.4 (12%) and up over three and a quarter million viewers, 15.32-18.62(22%). Last week demo was up by 15% and viewers by 23%.Tensor Edited December 13, 2013 by Tensor

Total viewers was up 29% (19.07-24.67 million) and total demo was up 21% (6.6-8.0)A couple of comparisons. Last week, the two NBC comedies that run between 8-9 PM had a few more viewers, but were a half point below the TBBT LIFT in demo. This week, the two comedies had 5.69 million viewers and a demo of 2.2. TBBT lift was 5.48 million viewers and a 2.4 demo lift. The 18.22 million of Live + SD viewers was more than any shows Live + 7, except for NCIS (which again hit 24 million) TBBT show had a 5.2 demo for the Live + SD. For the first three episodes this year, all three hit five million and their average is 5.45 million, up 600,000 viewers.I mentioned earlier this year that SNF did not usually gain much in DVR viewing. It's original numbers were 22.07 million viewers and there is some diffrence in various sources for the demo. I've seen 8.4, 7.0, and 7.5. If it is one of the latter two, TBBT beat SNF in both viewers and demo with the Live + 7 numbers.TensorTuesday, October 22,2013. In the household rating (we normally look at the 18-49 demo, but in syndication, it's more how many households and total viewers), JJ was first with a 6.9, WF had a 6.4, JY had a 5.9 and TBBT was at 5.3. WF was first in viewers with 9.97 million, JJ had 9.43 and JY with 8.99 and TBBT with 8.16. The weekend version of TBBT on TBS finished in 7th place with a 3.9 household rating and 6.02 million viewers. If you look at the syndication ratings, you'll notice that four of the top ten (including the #1 and #3 programs) were football. Due to a quirk of how the ratings are collected, football shows up in the syndication ratings, although it shouldn't. What happens is that it is published with the syndication, then basically ignored on the list.News and NotesNo, and it never will. As I pointed out in another thread, there was a show, in 1972 with a 20.8 household rating for the year and it finished 19th. Last year, TBBT was the #2 scripted show with a 10.2 rating. In 2004, the number 9 show was CSI: Miami with 18.0 million viewers, Friends was #5 with 22.5 million viewers. This year, TBBT is the #3 show in viewers, with 18.62. The landscape of television is just too different to do a meaningful comparison. Not to mention there just isn't enough broadcast viewers to match the numbers of even five years ago. There is a website "Spotted Ratings" that uses some calculations that allow it to compare seasons after 2000. There, the top season is the final season of Friends, with the adjusted calculated number of 300. Last year, TBBT had the highest rated season since, at 249. As much as TBBT has grown this year, along with the shrinking number of people watching broadcast television, TBBT has a chance of getting close or beating Friends with the adjusted number. Due to a quirk of how the ratings are collected, football and Saturday kids shows show up in the syndication ratings, although they shouldn't. What happens is that it is published with the syndication, then basically ignored on the list .TensorNews and Notes for week 6, Posted on 31 October, 2013 Since there are no ratings results today, and TBBT will be showing it's first repeat, in timeslot, tonight, I thought I'd look at at how the three repeats that aired in the Monday night slot of the cancelled We are Men. First off, the two episodes of We are Men that aired averaged a 1.9 in the demo and five million viewers. The three TBBT episodes that ran averaged right around a 2.5 with 8 million viewers. This was also enough to basically tie the CBS show running prior to TBBT Two Broke Girls (TBG had a 2.55 rating in demo, but had only 7.93 million viewers) and beat the show running after, Mom(2.2 in the demo with 7.20 million viewers). It's worthy to note that those episodes ran out of TBBT timeslot, which translate's to lower viewers (viewers may not expect it to be on, even if it's advertised). Even with this handicap and they fact that all were repeats, it finished fifth or six for the night(out of 13), against all new programming. It also was the only repeat to make the top 25 programs for the week. There are 25 half hour comedies(both live action and animated) being broadcast this year. New episodes of, Modern Family, The Simpsons, How I Met Your Mother, The Millers and The Crazy ones are the only comedies that beat TBBT REPEATS. That's right, only new episodes of five half hour comedy series(out of 25 shows), beat the demo of 2.5 scored by TBBT, out of timeslot, repeats. And two of those, The Millers and The Crazy Ones have circumstances tied to TBBT. The Crazy Ones had a 3.9 demo rating for it's first show, which followed the TBBT episode that set the series record for viewers. Take that one outlier out, and the series ties TBBT. The Millers follows TBBT currently and it's higher rating is thought to be due to having TBBT as a lead in.Another point is there have been other shows running reruns already this year. As of today, there has not been another rerun that has scored above a 1.5 demo rating(see ETA below), vs the 2.5 that TBBT pulls in, in an out of timeslot run. It will be interesting to see what happens tonight using a season six episode, but in timeslot. It will also be interesting to see what The Millers scores for ratings tonight, without the massive (I'm talking about an above 5 demo and over 16 million viewers) TBBT lead in.Tensor.ETA, after posting this, the ratings for Wednesday, 30 October, 2013 were posted. A Modern Family repeat pulled in a 2.2 on Wednesday. While that does beat the high of 1.5 so far this year, it does not beat any TBBT repeat so far this year. There are a couple of things in the ratings this week that I am not counting, as they are the run over of the Football games. Since this isn't something that is normal, I'm going to ignore them as ratings. Again, I'm leaving out the World Series which has two shows in the top ten, with the high for game six (the Clinching game) with a Demo of 5.7 and 19.18 million viewers. Sunday Night Football (SNF) led the demo and NCIS had the most viewers for the week. TBBT, was number 2 demo and number 2 in viewers. Based on week six ratings. It appears things have settled into the pattern for syndication this year. TBBT finished in fourth place agin, behind Judge Judy(JJ) and Wheel of Fortune (WF) and Jeopardy (JY). In the household rating (we normally look at the 18-49 demo, but in syndication, it's more how many households and total viewers), JJ was first with a 7.1, WF had a 7.0, JY had a 6.1 and TBBT was at 5.9. The ranking for total viewers were again the same for the top four. WF was first in viewers with 10.93 million, JJ had 9.74 and JY with 9.32 and TBBT with 8.96. The weekend version of TBBT on TBS finished in 7th place again with a 3.9 household rating and 6.08 million viewers. Compared to syndication last year, TBBT is down by a full ratings point and down about 1.25 million viewers. It may be that a drop in ratings and viewers, due to over saturation by TBS has finally started, although ratings for the new episodes on Thursdays have grown. If you look at the syndication ratings, you'll notice that the #1 program was football and the #2 program is a three hour block for Saturday mornings. Due to a quirk of how the ratings are collected, football and Saturday kids shows show up in the syndication ratings, although they shouldn't. What happens is that it is published with the syndication, then basically ignored on the list .Tensor Posted on 05 November, 2013. News and notes for Week 7 TBBT post Daylight Savings Time viewer increaseIt will be interesting to see what happens with the ratings and viewers starting tonight. With the end of Daylight Savings Time, it get dark at an earlier time and as a result, TV viewing increases. TBBT has averaged an increase of 10% two weeks after the end of Daylight savings time. Note, this does not include season four (move to Thursday). And, it’s not just the average, all but one season increased by 10% (10.2,10.8,10.4, and 10.8 ), a very consistent increase. And even that one season, (season 2) was up by 7.8%In terms of demo, it has increased by an average of 11%. (11, 11, 6, 14 ,17, 9), again quite consistent. Interestingly, while season four remained flat in terms of viewers, the demo increased. So, what exactly does that mean in terms of this year? Well, for viewers, the last couple of shows have averaged around 17.75 million(note this is not the average viewers for the year, it is the average of the last three shows before DST ended. If we take the 10% average increase, then that would work out to around 19.5 million. If we include the low end (7.8%, we come up with 19.00 million. Using the high end of 10.8% they would be at 19.7 million viewers. For demo, the average over the last three was 5.2. If we use the average demo increase, we would get a 5.7, (if we use the range of the increase (6-17%)) which would give us a demo increase between 5.5 and 6.0).There is a fly in the oinment, however. Viewing across all televison is down by 7% over the same period a year ago (which makes the increases in viewers and demo, so far this year, even more amazing). Now it may not matter at all, as TBBT has been growing even as total viewers has been declining (down 35% since TBBT premiered). Just wanted to make it known it’s tough to predict, with increases in one area and decreases in another. I happen to think TBBT will increase it’s post Daylight Savings Time audience by about one million viewers to 18.75 million and the demo up four tenths, to 5.6Remember, these increased numbers are pretty much where the viewers and demo number stay, as an average, until Daylight saving time begins again in March. Interestingly, the DVR lift doesn’t seem to change (it’s currently averaging over five million viewers and 2.3 demo points), so the increase represent viewers who weren’t watching the show before, for whatever reason.Basic Cable TBBT performance The Big Bang Theory on TBS accounted for 19 of basic cable's Top 20 sitcom telecasts for the week among total viewers. The show also claimed 18 of the Top 20 sitcom telecasts for the week among adults 18-49. Last week's lineup included four of the series' popular Halloween episodes on Thursday.TBBT rerun performance for Week 6Here’s an interesting bit of information. TBBT ran three repeats last week. Two on Thursday and one on Monday. ALL THREE were in the top 25 in demo last week. The Thursday 9:30 repeat at 2.1 was the lowest, but it still rank ahead of over 2/3s of the shows last week.Tensor Overnights 08 November, 2013 Week 7 For Thursday 7 October broadcastsThe overnights are in and a new TBBT earned a 4.8 demo, with 16.59 million viewers. I expect, as usual, for the the ratings and viewers to rise with the finals. The lower numbers may be due to NBC scheduling The Voiceat 8 PM. Not that it did them any good, it was a SERIES low 2.7 demo.No other series that hit a 3.0, but four shows were at 2.7(Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, The Millers and The Voice) After TBBT in total viewers was The Millers at 10.67 million and The Voice, with 10.37 million.I will edit this post after the final numbers are published later this afternoon.Tensor Final Thursday Ratings 08 November, 2013 Week 8 For Thursday 7 October broadcastsThe final ratings for Thursday show TBBT earned a 4.84.9 demo, up a tenth, with 16.5916.89 million viewers up 300,000 viewers, the highs in both the timeslot and the night overall. While the demo numbers and viewers were up, this is the first week that TBBT was below a 5 in the demo and under 17 million for viewers. It's also the first week that the demo adjustment was below a two tenth rise. The lower numbers may be due to NBC scheduling The Voiceat 8 PM. Not that it did them any good, it was a SERIES low 2.7 2.5 demo. It may also be due to a lower number of viewers. Compared to two weeks ago (last week was Halloween, and viewership was way down), viewership this week was down almost 10% (it's down 7% from last year), which may explain the lower numbers. As to why the number of viewers is down, is unknown. No other series that hit a 3.0, but four shows hit 2.7 (Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, The Millers and The Voice) in second was Scandal, with a 2.8 and in third was Grey's Anatomy. After TBBT in total viewers was The Voice at 9.74 million and Elementary , with 8.89 million. The overnights are struck through, with the final numbers and any new changes in red.Tensor Edited December 13, 2013 by Tensor
Tensor Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 (edited) Week 8 10 November, 2013 Week 8 Live + 7 11 November, 2013 Based on week 6 ratings. The total lift (number of viewers watching on DVR over the last seven days) for this episode, was 5.99 million, this was an all-time series high. In terms of demo, there was a 2.7 point increase. This was another all-time series high. With that 2.7 demo lift, the total demo for this episode was a 7.9 a high for the season. With the lift, the total viewers were 22.95 million, interestingly, the low for the season. A high for the demo and the low for the viewers, means that the 18-49 viewers were at a season high. For the week, TBBT was the number one entertainment show in the demo with the 7.9 in demo. Second place was Modern Family at 5.6 and third was The The Blacklist with a 5.0. TBBT was a 2.3 points higher than anything else in demo, and it's 5.2 demo for Live + SD was higher than all the shows Live + SD except Modern Family In terms of demo lift, the top three were TBBT with 2.7, second place was The Blacklist at 2.0 and Grey’s Anatomy at 1.8.For viewers, TBBT had 22.97 million viewers. Number two was NCIS with 22.70 million and third was Person of Interst with 17.33 Million. The closest half hour comedy was Modern Family, with 14.20 million viewers. The top three in terms of viewer lift were The Blacklist with 6.20 million TBBTwith 5.99 million, Castle with 4.67 million. In Year vs Year, TBBT was up seven tenths in lift and seven tenths in total demo. In viewers, it was up 2.1 million viewers.Compared to the first six episodes of last year, viewer lift was up 39%(3.94-5.50 million) and demo lift was up 31%(1.9-2.5). Total viewers was up 23% (19.44-23.85 million) and total demo was up 14% (6.85-7.85). This makes it look the higher numbers, for the year, are due to the higher lifts generated this year. However, the Live + Sameday is also up this year (15.90-18.35) Up 2.45 million, which is 15%. And the demo is up (4.9-5.4) a full half point, or 10%.Tensor Tuesday, November 12 ,2013. It earned a 5.1 demo, with 17.98 million viewers. I expect, as usual, for the the ratings and viewers to rise with the finals. I'll say two tenths to 5.3 and 700,000 viewers to 18.7 million. No other series that hit a 3.0. Scandal, was second with a 2.9 and The Millers was third with 2.7. In total viewers was the two flipped with The Millers at 11.28 million and Scandal, with 8.90 million. Discounting The Millers (which has TBBT as it's lead in), TBBT had more than twice as many viewers as any other show last night. In it's timeslot, TBBT demo was higher than the combined demo of the other four shows (5.1 to 4.8 for the other four shows) and in total viewers in the timeslot, TBBT also had more than the other four shows combined (17.98 million to 15.04 million) While these numbers are subject to adjustments in the final, I expect that TBBT will still have the various leads described here. Last week The Voice had a 2.5 demo during the common half hour. This week Parks and Recreation pulled in a 1.2, less than half of The Voice demo. I will edit this post later today, the time the finals are release will determine when. I expect, as usual, for the the ratings and viewers to rise with the finals. They did, but I'll say two tenths to 5.3 and 700,000 viewers to 18.7 million.only about half of what I predicted.. Up only half of what has been normal for TBBT may sound bad, but TBBT was the only show to be adjusted up, seven shows were adjusted down. All of the seven, except for The Millers, were on NBC or Fox. This was due to the Thursday night football game being broadcast locally on either NBC (in Indianapolis) or Fox (in Nashville). NBC took the bigger hit because of the preemptions. No other series that hit a 3.0. A couple of notes, the first not related to TBBT, is the The Vampire Diaries, on the CW network, tied for second, in demo, between 8-9 PM with the X-Factor at 1.3. It beat Parks and Recreation on NBC 1.3 to 1.1 and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, on ABC, by 1.3 to 0.9. TBBT, for just that one half hour, tied, in demo, with THE ENTIRE NIGHT ON NBC, at 5.2. The Live + 7 ratings for this week included October 31, and TBBT ran a rerun. Reruns are not counted in the Live + 7 as the recording of reruns is minimal. Although, it is interesting to point out that TBBT had a 2.6 demo and 9.18 million viewers. Both higher than some Live + 7 ratings. For instance, the same day ratings of the Oct 31 broadcast, without any lift, would have placed it 17th in the LIVE + 7 demo ratings. In viewers, the total number of same day viewers would have placed it 18 (remember, with no DVR lift) in viewers for the Live + 7.For the week, the number one for demo was The Voice, Monday edition, with a 5.3. Second place was The Blacklist at 5.1 and there was a three way tie for third between The Voice, Tuesday Edition, Grey's Anatomy, and Scandal with a 4.6. In terms of demo lift, the top three were The Blacklist and Grey's Anatomy with 2.0 to tie for first, and in third was Scandal at 1.7. NCIS was the number 2 program this week by just over 1 million viewers. TBBT's lead in Live + 7 over NCIS is right around 2 million, so I expect TBBT to become the number two show, in viewers, once we see the Live + 7 numbers. Two things of note, 60 Minutes is in the top ten this week. So far this year, 60 minutes makes the top ten, when it gets a direct lead in from Football, when it doesn't get the direct lead in, it doesn't make the list. And what, to me, is just amazing. The least viewed time slot, during the week is Friday at 10 PM. Blue Bloods was the number ten show this week, despite airing in that time slot. The shows that networks usually put in that slot are more than likely to be cancelled. But Blue Bloods is averaging a 1.37 demo and 11 million viewers. This is the first week with the syndicated TBBT hitting a 7 in household rating and over 10 million viewers. With daylight savings time ended, more people may be indoors and watching TV. What happens is that it is published with the syndication, then basically ignored on the list .Tensor Posted on 21 November, 2013 Ratings comparison to last year. Believe it or not, we’re one third of the way through the season. I thought I’d compare how the show is doing, rating wise, to last year, through the first eight weeks. We’ll first look at the changes in the total number of viewers watching broadcast TV. Then, the Live + Sameday numbers for TBBT, then the Live + 7. Percentages up or down, unless otherwise noted, are based on demo ratings. Some of the Live + Sameday data was taken off the the website "Spotted Ratings" and the rest of the data from the section "TVbythenumbers" located on "Zap2it" website. So let’s get started. Overall, TV viewing is down by 9% and 12% in total viewers. This has been a continuing trend since the early 2000s. It’s tough to compare complete seasons, as I don’t have easy access to the data for seasons earlier than 2011-2012. I do have data for each individual show’s average, but to get a complete season, I would have to find each show, then add everything up, then create averages...anyone want to help? To give you an idea, I’ll look at the total viewers for some of the top 10 rated series for the past week and compare those to the season averages in 2004-2005. While I’ll be comparing weekly numbers to seasons averages, the numbers I’ll be using, for this year, are close to the season average for this years shows. For instance, the entertainment program with the highest number of viewers last week was NCIS, with 19.3 million viewers This would have placed it in EIGHTH place, in 2004-05. It would have been behind the first place show American Idol by almost eight million viewers. TBBT was second last week with 18.3 million viewers, which would have placed it tenth in 2004-05. Those don’t sound that bad, but there is a huge drop off after those two. The next show, third in viewers, was NCIS:LA with 14.8 million. That would have placed it in 18th place in 2004-05. If we check the show with the tenth most viewers this past week, it was Blue Bloods, with 11.7 million. It would have tied for THIRTIETH place. That’s right, the tenth most watched show this year would be 20 places lower in 2004-2005. Here’s another measure. In 2004-2005, the average number of total viewers at 8 PM on Thursday in 2004-05 was roughly 58 million viewers. This year, the HIGHEST number of total viewrs was 38 Million. 20 million less. Now that you have an idea of how many fewer people are watching broadcast TV these days, let’s get to TBBT’s rating. For Live + Sameday viewers, TBBT has been pulling in and average of 18.16 million viewers. Compared to last years average, at this time, TBBT had 15.8 million viewers. Thus, TBBT has, on average, 2.3 million more people watching than it did last year. This years demo is, 5.3. That's up by three-tenths over last years 5.0. That is up 14% in viewers and five percent in demo. For the Live + 7 numbers, the Average number of viewers, this year, is at 23.5 million with a demo of 7.9. Last year, at this time the Live + 7 was 19.9 million, with a 6.9 demo. So, in Live + 7 numbers TBBT is up 3.6 million viewers and seven tenths in demo. Also up are DVR veiwers. This year DVR lift numbers are 5.5 million viewers with a 2.5 demo lift. Last year, there was a 4.12 million viewer lift, and a 2.0 demo lift. This means, that the DVR lift is up 1.4 million viewers and a half a ratings point. For a comparison, last year, TBBT had ONE episode with a lift of over five million. This year, the first six episodes, all of them,(since the Live + 7 is delayed by two weeks, we only have the first six episodes) have hit a lift of over five million, with the latest within 10,000 viewers of hitting six million (5.99 million). In demo, last year TBBT hit a 2.3 demo lift ONCE. This year, the low is 2.3, with four of the six episodes above that, including hitting a 2.7 lift twice. By contrast, the second biggest comedy, Modern Family is down by over 1 million viewers, on average, and down six tenths in demo. TBBT up, on a percentage basis, almost as much as Modern Family is down. I keep pointing out that TBBT is an anomaly in that it is still growing in it’s seventh season. TBBT has grown it’s audience for seasons five, six, and now seven. Modern Family, in it’s fifth year, fell 16% between it’s third and fourth season and another 16% so far this year, between it’s fourth and fifth season. And this is the show that has won the Emmy four years in a row. I want to point out that I'm not saying that ratings are not always indicative of the quality of a series. This was just meant to show how really amazing the increase, in viewers by TBBT, really is. Modern Family has lost almost one quarter of it’s demo over the last two years, while TBBT has increased it’s audience by 10%.Tensor Edited December 13, 2013 by Tensor

In terms of demo, there was a 2.6 point increase. With that 2.6 demo lift, the total demo for this episode was a 7.5. With the lift, the total viewers were 22.48 million, a low for the season, but overall viewing was down this week for all shows. For the week, TBBT was the number one entertainment show in the demo with the 7.5 in demo. Second place was The Blacklist with a 5.2 and third was tie between Grey's Anatomy and The Monday edition of The Voicewith a 4.6. TBBT was again 2.3 points higher than anything else in demo, and it's 4.9 demo for Live + SD was higher than all the shows Live + SD except The Blacklist at 5.2. WF was second with a 7.5. JY finished with a 6.5 and TBBT was was fourth at 5.8. Three Day Lift Record, Week 10 26 November, 2013I've been busy today, so I haven't had a chance to do the normal Tuesday post today and I probably won't get to it until tomorrow. So, to give you something, in a CBS press release today, it was announced that TBBT had it's highest three day lift in viewers ever. We don't normally see the three day lift numbers, but in this case, because it set a record, CBS announced it. In lift, the three days of DVR viewing, brought in 4.94 million more viewers, the highest three day lift ever. It tied the highest three day increase in demo at 2.1. It also set a record for the highest number of three day total viewers at 23.88 million viewers and a season high for the three day total demo at 7.4.For comparison here is this week's three day lift and the average SEVEN day lifts for last year and currently for this year.Year---------- total viewers---------viewer lift---------total demo---------demo liftThis weekthree day----------23.88-----------------4.94----------------7.4---------------2.102012---------------21.04-----------------4.24----------------7.2---------------1.982013---------------23.66-----------------5.52----------------7.8---------------2.51Note that the three day total viewers is already higher than the seven day average and how much this three day lift beats last years seven day average. There was a special Thanksgiving edition of Sunday Night Football, which dominated the ratings with a 6.0 demo and 18.6 million viewers and the pre game scored 3.9 demo and 12.5 million people. Not counting football, a repeat of TBBT was the top entertainment program of the night with a 2.7 demo and 9.1 million viewers (if you see higher ratings and viewers, remember the afternoon football game ran over into TBBT slot and had to be taken out, some sites don't remove the overrun until the finals). No other show broke a 2.0, including several first run shows and a couple of specials. The Crazy Ones and A Charlie Brown Thanksgivingwere tied for second second with a 1.6 (note that The Crazy Ones was the lead out of TBBT, two later shows scored a 1.2 and a 1.1. Again, total viewers for The Crazy Ones were for the lead out of TBBT. The two later shows scored total viewers of 4.8 and 4.2 million. No other show broke a 2.0, including several first run shows and a couple of specials. The 9:00 edition of The Crazy Ones scored a 1.6 1.8 and A Charlie Brown Thanksgivingwere had a 1.6 (note that The Crazy Ones was the lead out of TBBT, both later shows scored a 1.2. Again, total viewers for The Crazy Ones were for the lead out of TBBT. The two later shows scored total viewers of 4.8 4.46 and 4.2 4.43 million. TBBT is usually adjusted up, but with a repeat, adjustments are too inconsistent for me to guess at what might happen. Adjustments this week were based on the overruns of football, and as a result, TBBT started a half hour later at 8:30, which explains the six tenths adjustment up. Two notes this week. As I was not counting football, and disregarding the inflated numbers for The Crazy Ones, due to TBBT lead out, TBBT had more than double the demo and viewers than any other entertainment show. I mentioned, in another thread, that the 2.7 preliminary demo, for a repeat, would have placed TBBT in the top ten for entertainment programs for the previous week. With the adjustment up, TBBT would have been the FOURTH highest rated entertainment program last week, in terms of demo, and would have placed in ELEVENTH in total viewers. It would have been the only repeat that would have made the top 25. I will edit this post later today, the time the finals are release will determine when. Yeah, I was way optimistic about this as the finals didn't come in until today.Tensor Edited December 13, 2013 by Tensor

It earned a 4.6 demo, down seven tenths from the last original episode with 15.26 million viewers, the lowest number of viewers since 25 April. I expect, as usual, for the the ratings and viewers to rise, but with this being an unusual situation (with the live musical) I simply don't have a number for this episode. The reason for all these low numbers was "The Sound of Music:Live". It tied TBBT in the demo, but had 18.50 million viewers. The highest rating for NBC, on Thursday, since the finale of ER back in May of 2009. Third in demo was Scandal with a 3.1, and in third in viewers was The Millers with 9.38 million. As usual, I'll do a post once the final numbers are in.Tensor Final Thursday Ratings 06 November, 2013 Week 11 For Thursday 05 December broadcasts The final adjustments are in and TBBT earned a 4.8 in demo, with 15.62 million viewers. This was up over the preliminary 4.6 and 15.32 million viewers. TBBT was number one in demo, but was number two in total viewers for both it's time slot and the entire night. For the night, the special The Sound of Music:Live scored a 4.6, with 18.62 million viewers. For the common half hour, TBBT had a 4.8 with 15.32 million viewers, while The Sound of Music:Live had a 4.4 demo and 17.7 million viewers. Note that TBBT won the demo and pulled down the ratings for The Sound of Music:Live by about four tenths and 2 Million viewers for the common half hour. I expect the DVR numbers for TBBT to be higher than normal (but don't guarantee that) and also expect it to win total viewers, once we get the Live + 7. Scandal was third, and in a bit of a change, was above a 3.0, with a 3.1. In total viewers, it was The Millers in third at 9.23 million. This week TBBT was down 17% (3.3 Million) in viewers and 9% (five tenths) in demo from it's last new episode. It was down 7% in viewers (1.31 million) and down 7% (four tenths) in demo from the tenth episode last year. However, it is still up over last year in Average viewers, by 12% (1.88 million) and demo, 3% (two tenths). Actually, I'm trying to be inconsistent, so I can get a writers gig on TBBT. Sunday Night Football (SNF) led the demo and viewers for the week. TBBT, was number 2 in demo and number 3 in viewers. NCIS pulled in over 12 million viewers, and placed in the top ten, with a repeat, but didn't make the top ten in demo with a 1.6. Last week, TBBT had a 11.29 million viewers, and a 3.3 demo. Interestingly, for this week, that would have placed TBBT in the top ten in demo, but out of the top ten in viewers, the opposite of NCIS. Once the Live + 7 is added during this week, I expect the TBBT to actually climb above SNF in demo (it's averaging a 2.5 lift) and above SNF in viewers (TBBT is averaging over 5 million lift, SNF has around a 1%, 190.000 viewers). The wildcard this week is The Sound of Music:Live. I simply don't have any way of figuring out what their lift will be. As it was a live event, I would suspect that most of the viewers were watching live. But I have nothing to back that up. I suspect that TBBT will be over six and possibly push seven million in viewer lift, only because I suspect that there were many viewers who watched TSoM live, and taped TBBT, but, again, there's nothing concrete to base that on. We'll cover Syndication Tomorrow. I'm working on figuring out the Live + 7 ratings and viewers for NCIS. TBBT has won the week quite a few times this year, and it may be ahead in total viewers, but I have to finish adding everything up. Tensor News and Notes, 10 December, 2013. Week 12 I was doing some research for a few other News and Notes posts and I found some interesting tidbits. I'm going to consider regularly scheduled broadcast scripted shows (no Reality or Competition and no sports) I was looking over all the demos for all the shows this year. There are 72 shows that have three weeks or more of demo numbers. TBBT has shown ten episodes. The following are TBBT's demo numbers for those ten weeks 5.5, 6.1, 5.2, 5.1, 5.2, 5.2, 4.9, 5.2, 5.3, 4.8. In there the high is 6.1 and the low is 4.8. There is one week above 6.0, seven that are between 5.0 and 5.9, and two weeks with 4.8-4.9. If you take the ratings of the other 71 shows combined, there are only five instances of a show scoring over a 4.0 in demo. Modern Family had four of those in the first five weeks of the season and the premier of Marvel: Agents of Shield had the other. However, Modern Family hasn't had a demo above a 4.0 since mid October(it's dropped nine tenths of a demo point to a 3.2 for it's latest show). Since then, TBBT is the only series that has had a demo over a 4.0.TBBT had a demo low of 4.8, the highest other demo this year, was a 4.7 for the premier of Marvel: Agents of Shield(and it's the only 4.0 that this series had). The final note is that the average demo for TBBT is 5.25 (same as last year, even though television viewing has dropped by 10%). The tenth place show Sleepy Hollow, has a average rating of 2.71. Every other show (60 of them!) has an average rating that is less than half that of TBBT. Tensor Posted on 13 December, 2013 Syndication for Week 12. Based on week eleven ratings. In line with previous weeks, I would expect a demo rise of two tenths, and ~500,000 viewers. As has been usual, second place in demo was Scandal with a 3.2 and in third was The Millers with a 2.9. In total viewers TBBT was first with it's 18.55 million viewers, The Millers was in second at 12.04 million and Elementary, with 9.53 million. Tensor Thursday Final Ratings 13 December 2013 Based on the 12 December 2013 broadcast The finals are in and TBBT dropped two tenths in the demo and 900,000 in viewers (I predicted up two tenths and 500,000 viewers). Now before anyone panics, this has nothing to do with the show, I'll explain the reasons at the end of this post. The final ratings were a 5.1 demo rating and 17.68 million viewers. This is up from last week by three tenths in demo and 2 million in viewers.TBBT was the leader in viewers and demo for the night. Second and third in viewers were The Millerswith 10.93 and Scandal with 9.22 million viewers. In demo, Scandal came in second with a 3.2 rating and Grey's Anatomy was third with a 2.7 The next highest rating in TBBT slot was the The Sing Off with a 1.3. Compared to the eleventh episode last year (The Santa Simulation), Ratings were down three tenths in demo (5.4-5.1), but up just under a million viewers (17.68-16.74). Overall, for the year, after 11 episodes, demo average is up one and a half tenths, (5.11-5.25) and up just under two million viewers, (16.16-17.98). Now, as to why the ratings dropped this week. On Thursday nights, "The NFL Network" covers the Thursday night game. However, to prevent a lawsuit for anti-trust violations, the game is also on broadcast TV, in the cities that are represented by the two teams playing. Last night, it was Denver and San Diego and the game was ending during the TBBT west coast broadcast time. Stations in each of the cities bid for the right to broadcast these games, and it just so happens that in San Diego and in Denver, it is the CBS stations that were broadcasting the games. The overnights that I put out earlier in the day only measure what station was being watched at what time, not what is actually on at that time. The Finals, which are put out later, go thought and look at not just what station, but what was on that station. In this case, the earlier report included the fact that it was the CBS stations, in those two cities, were being watched, but it was football that was on. The latter report removed those viewers, in Denver and San Diego, that were watching the football game on CBS. Removing those viewers, caused the ratings for TBBT to drop. Basically, TBBT was not available to viewers in those two cities. I didn't see the note explaining that it was the CBS stations that were carrying the game in the early data, otherwise, I would have explained that the ratings were probably going to fall. Tensor Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) Week 13; 15 December 2013 Week 13 Live + 7. 16 December , 2013 Based on week ten ratings. A note right off the bat. TBBT was in reruns this week (Thanksgiving), and the DVR rations do not contain reruns. There will be a different look to the ratings this week as there were several of the higher rated show that were running reruns. For the week, The Blacklist was the number one entertainment show in the demo with the 5.1 in demo. Second place was tie betweenHow I Met Your Mother and Monday's The Voice with a 4.1. In terms of demo lift, the top three were The Blacklist with 2.1, second place was Sleepy Hollow at 1.4 and there was a four way tie for third at 1.3. Just for comparison, TBBT average Live + 7 demo is 7.8 with a lift of 2.2. For viewers, the top show was The Blacklist with 17.34 million, Person of Interest was second with 17.17 million viewers and third was Castle with 15.89 Million. The highest rated half hour comedy was How I Met Your Mother, with 9.82 million viewers. The top three in terms of viewer lift were The Blacklist with 6.38 million,Person of Interest with 5.28 million, and Castle with 4.48 million. Again, for comparison, TBBT Live + 7 average total viewers is 23.76 million and the average lift is 5.52 million. And yes, that number is correct for The Blacklist. The Blacklist is averaging over 6 million lift. Tensor Tuesday, December 17,2013. Weekly Rankings Week 13 Ratings based on Week twelve numbers. We'll cover Syndication Tomorrow. Tensor Posted on 19 December, 2013 Syndication for Week 13. Based on week twelve ratings. While the rankings for household rating remained the same, rankings for viewers changed quite a bit this week. TBBT finished in fourth place, behind Judge Judy(JJ) and Wheel of Fortune (WF) and Jeopardy (JY). In the household rating (we normally look at the 18-49 demo, but in syndication, it's more how many households and total viewers), JJ and WF tied for first with a 7.2, JY had a 6.5 and TBBT was at 6.4. WF was first in viewers with 11.40 million, over a million ahead of JY with 10.22 and TBBT with 10.15. JJ, which normally finishes in second, tumbled all the way to fourth in viewers this week with 9.85 million. The weekend version of TBBT on TBS tied with the weekday showings of Modern Family with a 5.1 but was ahead in viewers with 7.92 million, compared to Modern Family which had 7.87 million. This is only the second week this year that TBBT has broken 10 million viewers in weekday syndication. Of course, it's the only scripted show in syndication to do that. The Modern Family numbers above are the closest scripted show to TBBT and that show is 1.3 ratings points behind in households and 2.2 million viewers behind. If you look at the syndication ratings, the #1 and #4 programs were football and Weekend Adventure a three hour block for kids on Saturday mornings. Due to a quirk of how the ratings are collected, football and Saturday kids shows show up in the syndication ratings, although they shouldn't. What happens is that it is published with the syndication, then basically ignored on the list . Tensor News and Notes for Week 13. 20 December, 2013 The Following was in reply to a question from the forums, by ajond. Since I am quite similar to Leonard in being pedantic and over explaining things, I had to give some context to make the raw numbers clearer. I have SOME, data (Credit for some of the following data and calculations go to the site Spotted Ratings). The problem is you are going to be looking at raw numbers that have no relation to the raw numbers that we get in this era. So bear with me as I attempt to give you some context for the Friends numbers and some comparisons to TBBT. For example, the following is the last five years of Friends, as you can see, TBBT looks like a complete failure compared to the following numbers in the demo. Season/Year 18-49 ratings Average viewers Season Rank 6 1999-2000 12.6 20.7 million 5 7 2000-01 12.1 20.2 million 4 8 2001-02 13.0 24.5 million 1 9 2002-03 11.4 21.6 million 3 For fun, and to give you some idea of how much TV viewing has changed in the last 10 years, I'll put Friends last year here, compared to this year of TBBT Friends 10 /2003-04 12.2 22.8 million 3TBBT 7/2013-14 5.3 18.0 million 2 Those rankings are based on the total viewers. While Friends looks like it had a great many more viewers, the number available is quite different. On 12 December, in it's time slot, TBBT had 17.68 million viewers, but the total number of broadcast viewers was 32.9 million. TBBT had 54% of the viewers. In Season 10 of Friends, it averaged 22.8 million. I only have ratings for two shows in the time slot. Friends with 22.8 and Survivor with 24.1 million. I'm missing numbers for FOX, ABC, CW, and UPN. But, even with only two networks, there were 46.9 million viewers, 14 million more viewers than there are today. Some extrapolation from some other nights, shows, and years allows an estimation for the number of viewers in that time slot, about 60 million viewers for broadcast television, almost twice the number of viewers available today. Friends was pulling in 38% of the viewers (remember, this is an estimate), in today's environment, that 38% would be about 12.5 million viewers. If there were 60 million viewers available today, TBBT, with it's percentage, would have approximately 32 million viewers. This is not to say that Friends would not be a big hit today or that TBBT would have had the same percentage back in 2003-04. Using some calculations that can approximate the decline in viewership shows that the 12.2 demo would be approximately equal to a 6.3 demo today, about one rating point greater than TBBT. However, that said, there is no way to show how the change in the number of specialty channels would really affect the ratings from previous years. Its just truly amazing that TBBT (and the number one in viewers NCIS at 19.5 million) pulls in viewer numbers comparable to those years when there were so many more viewers (it would have finished in 9th place in 2003-04, in viewers, NCIS in 8th). Note that Friends would have a higher demo, but TBBT would have more viewers. As I said, the numbers are estimates and calculations which I'm using to give some context to the numbers from different years and conditions. One note I can't help bringing up. The series finale of MASH, had 125 million people watching it, twice as many as the total available in 2004. Although that is obviously a special number, due to the circumstance of it being the series finale, it should give you some idea of the number of people available for watching broadcast television back in 1981, compared to today. Tensor Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) Week 14; 22 December 2013 Week 14 Live + 7. 23 December , 2013 Based on week Eleven ratings. The total lift (number of viewers watching on DVR over the last seven days) for this episode (7.11The Discovery Dissipation)( the episode number was incorrect, it was 7.10, not 7.11. Thanks to Chiany for catching that and letting me know) was 5.19 million. In terms of demo, there was a 2.3 point increase with DVR viewing. With that 2.6 demo lift, the total demo for this episode was a 7.1. This was the lowest total demo for the show this year. With the lift, the total viewers were 20.82 million, the lowest total Live + 7 for the year. Two things, one, the original episode ran after a week off and it ran against The Sound of Music:Live, the highest demo it has run a new show against this year. This doesn't appear to be a trend, as the show the week after this, was up over 2 million viewers on the Live + Same Day. Even with this episode being the lowest Live + 7 total, TBBT was still the number one entertainment show in the demo with the 7.1. Second place was Modern Family with a 5.5 and third was The Blacklist with a 5.2. Even thought TBBT's 4.8 demo for Live + SD was tied for the lowest of the year, it was still higher than all the shows Live + 7 except Modern Family at 5.5 and The Blacklist with a 5.2. In terms of demo lift, the top three were TBBT with 2.3, second place was Modern Family at 2.2 and third was The Blacklist at 2.0. For viewers, the top show was TBBT with 20.82 million, The Sound of Music: Live was second with 20.18 million viewers and third was The Blacklist with 17.54 Million. The closest half hour comedy was Modern Family, with 14.14 million viewers. The top three in terms of viewer lift were The Blacklist, with 5.86 million, TBBT with 5.19 million, and Elementary with 4.85 million . I'll note, The Sound of Music: Live, really seemed to be a live event and the number for it above are estimates. it did not make either the highest demo lift (which means it is below 0.6, nor did it make the highest viewer lift (which means it is below 1.5 million. TBBT finished in fourth place, behind Judge Judy(JJ) and Wheel of Fortune (WF) and Jeopardy (JY) in the household rating (we normally look at the 18-49 demo, but in syndication, it's more how many households and total viewers). What happens is that it is published with the syndication, then basically ignored on the list . To all, a happy holiday season, no matter what holiday you celebrate. Tensor News and Notes for week 14, 25 December, 2013 Over the last several weeks, two articles, written by Oma bin, have been posted at Spoliler TV . The first, on December 10th, covered ABC and FOX . The second, published on December 22, covered CBS and NBC . If you haven’t read them, you should head over there right now and do so. They are an excellent analysis of the whether a show may be cancelled or not, and why. While reading the articles, I realized that it would be possible to play around with the numbers a bit, and possibly find some interesting tidbits or squeeze out some different way of looking at things. Now, before I do this, I want to stress that while the numbers are valid, manipulating them the way I am going to, may not be entirely valid. Oma bin used them to compare shows on the same network and to dig into whether or not a show, ON A SPECIFIC NETWORK, will be renewed compared to other shows on the network. Comparing them across networks, may not be valid, but in a general sense, I think it is valid enough for my points to be understood. I want to thank Spoiler TV and darkUFO (who currently heads the site) for permission to use the data, and of course, Oma bin for the excellent articles. I want to stress that I am only using the data from Oma bin. Any errors, incorrect calculations, or erroneous conclusions, based on my speculations, are my fault, not Oma bin’s. Let me make a few observations. One, Oma bin, with a limited amount of comedies available on NBC, chose to use the entire network scripted average. While this is a valid way of trying to smooth out large changes do to a small sample size, I’m not doing that. I’m going to use just the average of the four comedies, to maintain consistency over the four networks. Also, some of the numbers may look a bit different than numbers that I’ve used in several posts here. I suspect that Oma bin has used all the shows in a particular time slot. There have been 11 new TBBT, with an average rating of 5.25. There have(at the time the article was written) been seven repeats. Three on Mondays, and four on Thursdays. Since I’m not sure exactly which repeats, if any, that Oma bin used, I’ll just keep using Oma bin’s numbers, to be consistent. Finally, as Oma bin notes, the data used in the articles are based on the more recent ratings, not the entire season. To maintain consistency for my calculations, I’m just using the show numbers in the article and I also added back the comedies that were cancelled. This gives a bit of a different average for each network from the ones Oma bin used. In the following tables, Oma bin’s average, for each network is on the top line of each grouping. The average I’m using is in the blurb following each grouping. So, now that all the disclaimers are out of the way, let’s look at the numbers for each of the Networks. Each line has the Show and the network (shows are grouped by network). These are followed by the shows 18-49 rating and the percentage of the network average. Shows with a ( C ) after them, have already been cancelled: ABC 1. 80 Modern Family 3.60 194% The Middle 2.20 119% Super Fun Night 1. 80 97% Back in the Game ( C ) 1.75 94% Last Man Standing 1.60 86% The Goldbergs 1.60 86% Trophy Wife 1.20 65% The Neighbors 1.10 59% Note: The comedy average for ABC was a 1.85 rating FOX 1.40 New Girl 1. 80 128% Brooklyn 99 1.50 107% Mindy Project 1.30 92% Dads 1.30 92% Raising Hope 1.10 78% Note:The comedy average for FOX was a 1.40 rating NBC 1.60 Parks and Recreation 1.00 105% Sean Saves the World 1.00 105% The Michael J. Fox Show 0.90 94% Welcome to the Family ( C ) 0.90 94% Note: The rating for NBC comedies was 0.95. Remember, Oma bin used the full network average, which was 1.60. CBS 2.70 The Big Bang Theory 5.10 198% 2 Broke Girls 2.60 101% The Millers 2.60 101% Mike and Molly 2.20 85% The Crazy Ones 2.10 82% Two and a Half Men 2.10 82% Mom 2.00 78% We Are Men ( C ) 1.90 74% Note: The average for CBS comedies was 2.58 The rating numbers are what Oma bin used in the articles (the percentages are a bit different due to differences I explained above.) The first thing to note is how strong the CBS comedies are. They are the only ones that are averaging above a 2.5. Of course, TBBT is huge and contributes to that. But, even if TBBT is taken out, the CBS comedies still come at 2.2, four tenths of a point ahead of the next closest network and the only average above a 2.0. The other thing to note is just how awful the NBC comedies are doing. The highest rated NBC comedy would be in last place on every other network. Conversely, on CBS, We Are Men was canceled with a 1.9 rating. That rating would have made it a top three comedy on ABC (the second strongest network), and the number one comedy on FOX and NBC. One other thing I should point out. While the raw rating numbers, in this case the number after a show, not the percentage, is the basic thing used for deciding to cancel a show, it’s not always cut and dried. Lead in rating, night of broadcast, how close to syndication and cost of the show all figure into it. For instance, 2 Broke Girls is one season away from having enough episodes to go into syndication (usually thought to be 88 episodes or so). The production company, as Oma bin pointed out, would probably give CBS a reduction on the licensing costs, to make sure that fourth season get’s produced (it’s actually a moot point, as 2 Broke Girls is tied for the third highest rated comedy, it’s in no danger of being cancelled), as the money made from syndication can subsidize that last year of needed shows. Also, if a show is produced by the networks production company, it has an advantage, as the network is making money from the production of the show. Next, I’ll start manipulating the numbers. I’m going to combine all the shows and figure out what the average comedy rating is, and then figure the percentage from that. The following chart lists all the live action comedies: Show Network Rating Percentage The Big Bang Theory CBS 5.10 276% Modern Family ABC 3.60 195% 2 Broke Girls CBS 2.60 141% The Millers CBS 2.60 141% The Middle ABC 2.20 119% Mike and Molly CBS 2.20 119% The Crazy Ones CBS 2.10 114% Two and a Half Men CBS 2.10 114% Mom CBS 2.00 108% We Are Men ( C ) CBS 1.90 103% Super Fun Night ABC 1. 80 97% New Girl FOX 1. 80 97% Back in the Game ( C ) ABC 1.75 95% Last Man Standing ABC 1.60 86% The Goldbergs ABC 1.60 86% Brooklyn 99 FOX 1.50 81% Mindy Project FOX 1.30 70% Dads FOX 1.30 70% Trophy Wife ABC 1.20 65% The Neighbors ABC 1.10 59% Raising Hope FOX 1.10 59% Parks and Recreation NBC 1.00 54% Sean Saves the World NBC 1.00 54% The Michael J. Fox Show NBC 0.90 49% Welcome to the Family ( C ) NBC 0.90 49% The broadcast comedy average (25 comedy shows) is right at 1.85, basically the same as ABC. We Are Men, was cancelled, while it’s ratings were above the average of all comedies. As a matter of fact, We Are Men was the 10th highest rated comedy show this fall. It had the unfortunate luck of being on the network with the highest average rating for comedies. All eight of CBS‘ comedies are in the top ten, the other two are from ABC. The four lowest rated shows are the four shows on NBC. The other two points I want to make are that there is only one show above a 4.0 (TBBT at 5.1) and only one other above a 3.0 (Modern Family at 3.6). Every other show is below a 3.0. In the next article, I will look at what happens if we move some of the shows to different networks. The move changes the network’s average rating, and also, the percentages of each of the shows. Tensor Overnights 27 December, 2013; Week 14 For Thursday 26 December broadcastsTBBT ran a repeat of 6.23, The Love Spell Potential and it was the top program of the night in both demo, at 2.6 and in viewers with 10.97 million. Again, no other show broke a 2.0 and eight of the fourteen shows last night didn't break a 1.0, in demo. TBBT was the only show to break 10 million viewers, and essentially at least brought in double the amount of every other show, except for it's lead out, The Millers. Although, to be fair, there was only one first run show last night, everything else was repeats. In second with a 1.7 demo was The Millers and there was tie for third, with a 1.3 demo between Shark Tank and The Women of SNL. In total viewers The Millers, was in second at 7.44 million and Shark Tank, with 5.58 million was in third. Remember, The Millers is the lead out of TBBT. The Millers lost about 33% of the viewers (3.5 million)and about 33 % of the demo (0.9 rating points). TBBT is usually adjusted up, but, with a repeat, much like last week it's tough to predict. I'll say up one tenth and 120,000 viewers. Hopefully, I'll be closer than I was last week and you won't be able to laugh at me later, when the finals come out. I will edit this post later today, the time the finals are release will determine when. Hopefully, I'll be closer than I was last week and you won't be able to laugh at me later, when the finals come out. LOL, you can all laugh, the demo, again, stayed the same and viewers only went up by 10,000 viewers. One final thing. Last week I gave the rating and viewer average for the repeats (2.7 demo and 10.6 million). This week was down a tenth, from the average (2.6), but increased by 400,000 viewers(10.98 million), from the average. Sorry for not getting this out yesterday, I was running around buying a new car. The total lift (number of viewers watching on DVR over the last seven days) for this episode (7.11 The Cooper Extraction) was 5.76 million. In terms of demo, there was a 2.5 point increase with DVR viewing. With that 2.5 demo lift, the total demo for this episode was a 7.6. This was up from the previous week, when The Sound of Music:Live aired. With the lift, the total viewers were 23.44 million. Even with this episode being the lowest Live + 7 total, TBBT was still the number one entertainment show in the demo with the 7.6. Second place was Modern Family with a 5.4 and third was Scandal with a 4.6. As usual, TBBT's 5.1 demo for Live + SD was higher than all the other show's Live + 7 except Modern Family at 5.4. In terms of demo lift, the top three were TBBT with 2.5, second place was Modern Family at 1.9 and third was Grey's Anatomy at 1.8.For viewers, the top show was TBBT with 23.44 million, Followed closely by NCIS in second with 23.40 million viewers and third was NCIS:LA with 18.47 Million. The closest half hour comedy was Modern Family, with 14.63 million viewers. The top three in terms of viewer lift were TBBT with 5.76 million, Elementary, with 4.68 million, and NCIS with 4.10 million .I'll note here, that TBBT leads NCIS for total viewers in the Live + 7. Last year, NCIS led TBBT for both Live + SD and Live + 7. I'll go into more detail in the next few weeks. Tensor The weekly rankings will come later this afternoon. Tuesday, December 31,2013. Weekly Rankings Week 15 Ratings based on Week fourteen numbers. It was a bit of a strange week with very little original programing in the top 25, only seven shows were not repeats. Four shows were related to football, one was a singing competition (Sing Off), which finished 9th (1.4). The second was Christmas light competition (The Great Christmas Light Fight-3), which finished fifteenth (1.3), and finally, a news program (20/20) which finished 24th (1.1). With such a small amount of new stuff, I was debating on whether it was worth the effort to put out the full top ten rankings this week. I finally decided to go ahead, so we would have the rankings for each week in the season. For the week, Sunday Night Football (SNF) led the demo with a 9.3 rating and also led viewers with 27.36 million. TBBT, with a repeat, was number 3 in demo and number and in viewers. There are, what I feel, are some interesting points I will make at the end of the post. The top ten in demo follows. Show 18-49 demo 18-49 viewers SNF 9.3 11,801,000SNF Pregame 4.8 6,055,000TBBT (R ) 2.6 3,356,000Simpsons (R ) 2.2 2,755,00060 Minutes (R ) 1.7 2,199,000Simpsons (RS) 1.7 2,201,000Family Guy (R ) 1.7 2,142,000The Millers (R ) 1.6 2,049,000SNF Pregame (1st half hour) 1.4 1,813,000Sing Off 1.4 1,716,000 Repeats are show with an (R ) and Specials with an (S) Show Total viewers SNF 27,363,000SNF Pregame 14,584,000TBBT (R ) 10,982,00060 Minutes (R ) 10,470,000Kennedy Center Honors 7,176,000The Millers (R ) 7,143,000NCIS (RS) 7,141,000NCIS:LA (RS) 6,956,000Dateline (R ) 6,223,000Person of Interest (R ) 5,860,000 Note the huge number for demo and viewers for SNF. As with any repeat, we won't have access to the Live + 7 data for TBBT, for this week. In terms of demo, except for The Millers, at 1.7(which is TBBT lead out), TBBT at least doubled every other live action series for the week. Yes, every other live action series (drama and comedy) was at a 1.3 or lower. TBBT was the only scripted series to have more than 10 million viewers. For those who remember the New and Notes that was posted on December 25th (those who don't, scroll up a couple of posts and read it. Go ahead, I'll wait….) I pointed out that the average demo for an original episode of a scripted comedy this year is a 1.85. TBBT was the only series to beat the average of NEW SHOWS. Everything else was below the average rating. Again, I'll have to wait to see exactly when the Syndication results will be released this week. If it's later today, I'll try to get to it tonight. If it's tomorrow I'll see if what I can do to get it posted tomorrow. If it doesn't get released until Thursday, it won't be until Thursday that it gets posted. Tensor News and Notes for Week 15; 01 January 2014 Well, I intended to finish up my look at the demo ratings of the comedies. How the network demo would look different and how the shows would compare, if we moved some shows to other networks. However, I am trying to finish up a chapter in my Fan Fic and I've been busy, and I need to put some formulas into the spreadsheet before I can write it. So, you will get a look at how NCIS and TBBT compare in total viewers for the year (for new episodes), and the demo comparisons next week.TBBT is averaging just a tick under 18 Million (17.96) viewers this year and NCIS is bringing in an average of 19.33 million a show, about 1.4 million more than TBBT has been averaging. NCIS has been very consistent this year with a high of 20.02 million for the premiere and a low of 18.33 million in week three, only a 1.7 million difference. However, the last six episodes have been even more consistent, with a high of 19.65 and a low of 19.30, a difference of only 350,000 for the high and low the last six weeks.By comparison, TBBT has had a high of 20.44 million for the second episode of premiere night and a low of 15.63 million(the night of The Sound of Music:Live, the difference there being almost 5 million people. And, there is no consistency (although, again TSOML was very strong). The show went from the third highest at 18.94 million, to the low at 15.63 to the fourth highest at 17.68 million. It will be interesting to see how it does tonight, with very limited competition. Last year it set the highest number of viewers ever for the series, only to see that beaten the very next week with it's first show over 20 million. We may also have to take into account the three week layoff. That low of 15.63 million also came after the first one week break of the year.If we move to the Live + 7 numbers, TBBT moves into the lead. It is currently averaging 23.47 million viewers. NCIS is averaging 23.14 million, just above 300,000 less than TBBT. This means that TBBT is pulling in roughly 2 Million more people than NCIS is on DVR. TBBT is averaging 5.5 million DVR viewers. NCIS has around 3.5 million. These two are the only shows getting above 20 million in Live + 7,(as a matter of fact, they are both over 23 million) of course, they are the only shows averaging above 18 million for same day viewing (Yeah, indulge me. It's only 40,000 short of being over 18 million. That second episode of TBBT, with 20.44 million is the most watched scripted series in Live + SD this year, beating the 20.02 million that NCIS pulled in for it's premiere. Those two are the only scripted shows over 20 million this year on broadcast television. If you add the Live + 7, TBBT again is the highest viewed show this year (and the second), with 26.15 million for the second show on premier night, the only scripted show to get above 25 million this year. It later almost went over 25 million with 24.95 million for the Thanksgiving episode. NCIS had the three and four most watched with 24.67 and 24.45 million, for it's first two shows of the year. TBBT went over 24 million one other time, the premiere episode.Well, the syndicated rankings didn't get released today, so I'll probably do those Thursday.Tensor Posted on 06 January, 2014, Syndication for Week 15. Based on week fourteen ratings.TBBT finished in fourth place agin, behind Judge Judy(JJ) and Wheel of Fortune (WF) and Jeopardy (JY). In the household rating (we normally look at the 18-49 demo, but in syndication, it's more how many households and total viewers), JJ was first with a 7.1, WF was second with a 7.0, and JY and TBBT tied with a 6.4. The ranking for total viewers were a bit scrambled from the usual with WF was first in viewers with 11.07 million, JY was in second with 10.00 million. TBBT was in third with 9.86 million and JJ fourth, with 9.71 million. The weekend version of TBBT on TBS finished in 8th place with a 4.7 household rating, four tenths of a point behind the seventh place show, Modern Family playing Monday-Friday. However, the weekend TBBT pulled in 7.81 million viewers, 130,000 more than the 7.68 million viewers Modern Family got. With the football season over, the only anomaly in the syndicate ratings is the three hour block for Saturday morning programming called Weekend Adventure. Due to a quirk of how the ratings are collected, Saturday kids shows show up in the evening syndication ratings, although they shouldn't. I generally pull that show out when figuring relative standings.Tensor Final Ratings for 03 January, 2013; Week 15 For Thursday 02 January broadcastsI've had to do things a bit different this week. I was out and about on Friday, so all I did was to list TBBT's preliminary numbers, thinking that I would get the finals later that night, as always. My primary source for the ratings numbers STILL hasn't come up with the numbers (and I still don't have the syndication ratings either). However, I've found a source that does have almost all the final numbers (CW and low rated FOX show are not included). So, I'll give the top three as I normally do, without the comparison to the overnights, but I will have the comparison for TBBT's overnight and finals. For the first new episode in 2014, 7.12, The Hesitation Ramification, the ratings were 5.3 5.4 in demo, with 18.93 19.20 million, fourth highest this season the second highest number of viewers and third highest demo this year. This made this episode the fourth highest number of viewers in series history. Let's say up by two tenths and 500,000 viewers when finals come out. It was up only one tenth and only up 300,000 viewers, a bit less than my prediction. No other show broke a 3.0 and only three others broke a 2.0 in demo. TBBT was the only show to break 12 million viewers, and brought in double the amount of every other show, except for it's lead out, The Millers. In second with a 2.9 demo was The Millers and in third was Two and a Half Men, with a 2.1. In total viewers The Millers, was in second at 11.55 million and Elementary, with 8.92 million was in third. Remember, The Millers is the lead out of TBBT. The Millers lost 40% of the viewers (7.38 million) and almost 50% (47%) of the demo (2.5 rating points). To give you an idea of the boost that TBBT gives, if The Millers was it's own lead out, and lost the same percentage, it would have 6.9 million viewers and 1.5 rating points. Tensor I just saw the following, and I thought you might like to see just how huge the football numbers were. The NFC wildcard on Sunday, between the 49ers and the Packers drew a 27.7 demo rating with a 44 share. That means that over a quarter of the 18-49 demo were watching that particular game (this works out to around 30 million 18-49 year olds. The 44 share indicates there were about 62 million 18-49 year olds watching television. Remember, TBBT has a 5.4 demo and although I don't normally show it, it's share was 15. Right about 5 million 18-49 year olds, out of the 35 million 18-49 million watching TV at that time. Tensor Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) Week 16; 05 January, 2014 Week 16 Live + 7; 06 January, 2014 Based on week Thirteen ratings. During week Thirteen, TBBT was a repeat, and thus not included in the Live + 7 numbers. The number one entertainment show in the demo this week was The Tuesday Edition of The Voice at 4.6. Second place was How I Met Your Mother with a 4.2 and third was the Monday Edition of The Voice with a 4.0. In terms of demo lift, the top three were How I Met Your Mother with 1.5, second place was Almost Human at 1.1 and third was Person of Interest at 1.0. For viewers, the top show was NCIS with 23.19 million viewers and third was NCIS:LA with 18.51 Million and in third was Person of Interest with 16.68 Million. The top three in terms of viewer lift were Person of Interest with 4.29 million, Blue Bloods, with 3.85 million, and NCIS with 3.37 million. For comparison, the average new show for TBBT, so far this season, have been demo lift of 2.5 with a total 7.7 Live + 7 demo. In terms of viewers, TBBT has averaged a lift of 5.5, giving a Live + 7 total number of viewers of 23.47 million viewers. While those are the numbers for a new show, during week 13, a TBBT RERUN pulled in a 2.8 demo and 11.32 million viewers for the Live + Same Day. Remember, those ratings do not include the seven days of DVR viewing. Yet, those ratings would have place it 8th in the demo, and 9th in total viewers, against first run shows that had seven days of DVR viewing included in their ratings. I want to bring up one other thing. I don't normally get the Sunday Night Football Live + 7 numbers, as they are generally outside of the top 25. This week, due to the large number of repeats due to the holiday season, SNF made the top 25, in 21st place for the demo increase and 22nd place for the viewer increase. The total increase in demo was one tenth of a point, from 6.2 to 6.3. The total increase in viewers was 77,000, from 18.278 million to 18.355 million. That counts as a 2% increase in demo and basically a 0% increase in viewers. Which is why when counting sporting events, the Live + Same Day, is basically it's Live + 7 rating. Tensor Tuesday, January 07, 2014; Weekly Rankings Week 16 ratings based on Week fifteen numbers. This was the first week of the New Year, but not all networks are airing new shows yet. To complicate things a bit, there were two football games that ran into prime time and are listed in the rankings. I will not be including the run over numbers for football (although they are huge and I'mention them at the end). Discounting the run over football telecasts, the highest demo of the week belonged to TBBT with a 5.4. It was also the show with the most Live + SD viewers with 19.20 million. andNCIS led viewers with 19.65 million. It was the highest rated program for the week, the next closest new show was the Simpsons, with a 4.6, which had a direct lead in of those huge football numbers. All of Fox's animation shows benefitted from the football lead in getting about one full point above their normal ratings. The next closest live action comedy was The Millers (TBBT lead out) , with a 2.8 , and which also had the next highest number of viewers, for a live action comedy with 11.33 million viewers. The top ten in demo follows. The demos were The AFC Wildcard Game 11.4 rating points with 14.46 million demo viewers and 34.36 Million total viewers. The NFC Wildcard Game 10.0 rating points with 12.66 million demo viewers and 27.16 Million total viewers. Note that the number of 18-49 viewers were more than any other shows (except for TBBT) TOTAL viewers. And, no other show, this year, has broken 27 million viewers for the LIve + 7 totals. The closest was TBBT with 26.15 million. That particular TBBT was the only show this year, besides football, to break 25 million in Live + 7. I will hopefully get the Syndicated ratings up tomorrow as the release schedule returns to normal. Tensor Posted on 09 January, 2014, Syndication for Week 16. Based on week Fifteen ratings.TBBT finished up, in third place this week, behind Judge Judy(JJ) and Wheel of Fortune (WF). In the household rating (we normally look at the 18-49 demo, but in syndication, it's more how many households and total viewers). JJ and WF both came in with a 6.1, TBBT pulled down a 5.7 and there was a tie for fourth between JY and the weekend edition of TBBT, both with 5.6. The ranking for total viewers were a bit scrambled with the weekend edition of TBBT coming in fourth. WF was first, scoring 9.94 million viewers, TBBT was in second with 9.52 million, JY was third with 8.88 million. and The weekend TBBT in fourth, with 8.84 million. Yes, JJ finished in first with households, but was not in the top four with total viewers. That indicates that the other shows had more people per household watching. I seemed to have missed one last football game, as that was listed at number one with the three hour block for Saturday morning programming called Weekend Adventure at number 2. Due to a quirk of how the ratings are collected, Football and Saturday kids shows show up in the evening syndication ratings, although they shouldn't. I generally pull that show out when figuring relative standings. Tensor News and Notes for Week 16, 09 January, 2014 Part II A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned a couple of articles by a poster known as Oma bin, over at the Spoiler TV site in a In that post, I compared the networks average rating for it’s comedies, and how each show compared to it’s networks average. I thought I would play with the numbers a bit more and move some shows to different networks and see what things would look like if the ratings for the shows stayed the same, but they just changed networks. For this, I picked the top show on each network to move around. As a reminder, here are the average comedy rating for each of the networks: CBS 2.58 ABC 1.85 FOX 1.40 NBC 0.95 Here are the shows I’ll be moving around, along with the shows rating: CBS, The Big Bang Theory (TBBT), 5.10 ABC, Modern Family (MF), 3.60 FOX, The New Girl (TNG), 1.8 0 You’ll notice that there isn’t a show from NBC to move around. Well, there are two NBC shows rated at 0.9 and two at 1.0. It’s obvious from this that, ANY show from NBC would be lower than any other network’s rating, so I’m not moving any of their shows, but I will be moving other network’s shows to NBC, so you can see how that would affect NBC. So, lets start with NBC. If we move TBBT to NBC, it’s average comedy rating jumps to 1.78, over eighttenths higher than it’s current average of 0.95. Of course, TBBT’s percentage jumps to 287% of the networks average, (up 89 percentage points, from it’s own network’s rating). The NBC shows drop ~47 points. If we move MF, the network average goes up to 1.48, up five-tenths, and MF’s percentage is 243% (+50 points), with the network’s shows dropping ~37 points. Finally, if TNG moves, the network average goes to 1.12, up two-tenths, with TNG percentage moving to 143% (+15 points), and the network shows going down ~15 points One last thing, if we move all three over to NBC, the network average is 2.0, up a full ratings point. However, something interesting happens with the percentage changes. TBBT is at 250% (+56 points), MF is 176% (DOWN 20 points, TNG is now at 88%(-40 points). TBBT has such a huge impact, it brings NBC’s low 1.0 rating higher than the other two networks average. The average of the current network shows drop to under 50% OK, now for FOX. With TBBT, the FOX rating goes up to 2.02 from 1.40, up six-tenths. TBBT’s percentage is now 253% (up 59 points) and TNG percentage is now 89%, (-40 points). Moving MF over brings FOX’s rating to 1.77, up from 1.40. MF percentage is 204% (+6) and TNG’s percentage is 102% (-26). For NBC, we moved all three shows to NBC. Since we’re not using NBC shows, I’ll move both TBBT and MF to FOX. With both of them on FOX, the network’s rating is 2.24, up eight-tenths. TBBT percentage is now 227% (+33 points) and MF is 161% (- 37). TNG is now at 83% (-57). You can see the effect TBBT rating has on other shows, when figuring averages. Next, let’s check out ABC. Moving TBBT over ups ABC’s rating to 2.22, up from 1.8 0. That makes TBBT percentage 230% ( +36), while making MF percentage 162%(-34). Moving TNG to ABC causes the first network drop we’ve seen. With TNG on FOX, the network percentage goes to 184, down from 1.85. Tiny, yes, but a drop. If both TBBT and TNG move, the average for ABC becomes 2.18, up from 1.85. With this, TBBT percentage is 234%(+40) and TNG becomes 83% (-45). MF’s percentage becomes 161% (-37). You can see what TBBT does to all the averages. MF has the same effect, just smaller. The drop caused by the low ratings for TNG really become apparent when applied to the strong average rating for CBS. Finally, CBS. Moving MF does bring up CBS‘ average from 2.58 to 2.69. However, MF’s percentage drops by 62 points to 136%. TBBT’s percentage also drops, but only by 6, to 190%. Moving TNG to CBS drops the average rating from 2.58 to 2.49. TNG’s percentage goes to 72% of the network average, a drop of 58 points. TBBT’s percentage goes up by 11 points to 205%. Bringing both shows to CBS, brings the average up 2.58 to 2.60. This doesn’t really do anything major to TBBT percentage as it goes fro 198% to 194%, a drop of only 4 points. MF drops by 56 points to 138% and TNG really takes a hit dropping by almost half (59 points) to 69%. I said it in the last post, but it bears repeating. The New Girl’s ratings at 1.8 0, are a tenth of a point below the rating of We Are Men at 1.90. But, We Are Men was cancelled after only two episodes, while The New Girl is almost a lock for renewal. This is an excellent example of how there is more at work for renewals and cancels than just the raw numbers. In this case, The New Girl has a higher percentage of 18-49 viewers, it is doing much better compared to the other shows ON FOX (it’s their number one live action comedy), and it will get the ‘magic’ number of episodes needed for syndication next year. Whereas, with We Are Men, the show didn’t skew to the 18-49 year olds as much, it was the worst demo rating, for a comedy, on CBS, and it was no where near getting to the needed number of episodes for syndication. As a result, CBS pulled it after only two episodes. I hope you enjoyed this look at how the comedies compared to each other and how moving them around changes how a show may look, if it was on a different network. Tensor. Overnights 10 January, 2014 Week 16 For Thursday 09 January broadcasts Episode 7.13 The Occupation Recalibration, of TBBT earned a 5.6 demo, with 20.8 0 20.08 million viewers, this could be the first episode to break 21 million viewrs. This is the highest number of viewers, and the first time the show was over 20.00 million for an overnight rating. Nielsen has been getting better at getting close in the overnights so I'm going with a prediction of a demo rise of one tenths, and ~200,000 viewers. Second place in demo was The Millers, the lead out of TBBT with a 3.3 and in third was a tie with The Crazy Ones and Two and a Half Men with a 2.4. In total viewers TBBT was first with it's 20.8 0 20.08 million viewers, The Millers was in second at 13.61 million and Elementary, with 9.85 million. I will edit this post later today into the Final Ratings Post, the time the finals are release will determine when. Tensor Several sites had typos (or just published numbers they misread) , including the site I use to report the numbers. I have made the corrections. The show had 20.08 million viewers, not the 20.8 million I put in the post. It will be difficult for the show to hit 21 million viewers now, but it still may set a new high for viewers, after the final numbers are reported. Ratings Final 10 January, 2014 Week 16 For Thursday 09 January broadcasts Episode 7.13 The Occupation Recalibration, of TBBT earned a 5.6 5.7 demo, with 20. 8 0 20.08 20.35 million viewers, this could be the first episode to break 21 million viewrs. This is the first time the show was over 20.00 million for an overnight rating and it's final number of viewers is the second highest in series history. This is also the highest number of viewers in it's normal time slot. The only episode that was higher was 7.02 The Deception Verification, which aired at 8:30. Nielsen has been getting better at getting close in the overnights so I'm going with a prediction of a demo rise of one tenths, and ~200,000 viewers. There was a one-tenth increase in the demo and total viewers went up 250,000. Second place in demo was The Millers, the lead out of TBBT with a 3.3 and in third was a tie with The Crazy Ones and Two and a Half Men with a 2.4. In total viewers TBBT was first with it's 20. 8 0 20.08 20.35 million viewers, The Millers was in second at 13.61 13.39 million and Elementary, with 9.85 9.97 million. CBS was the only network with a show above 2.0 demo ratings. The highest show, not on CBS, was Parks and Recreation, with a 1.5 demo. Except for it lead out, The Millers, TBBT at least doubled the demo and viewers of every other show last night. In its time period, TBBT had 64% of the viewers, 20.35 viewers, 31.72 total viewers in the time slot and the had a higher demo than all the other networks combined (5.7 to 3. 8 0), in it's timeslot. TBBT had more viewers, by itself, than each network had for the entire night. It also had a higher demo than ABC and FOX. The only network demo total that was higher than TBBT was NBC, had a total of 6.2 for its demo. Tensor Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) Week 17; 12 January, 2014 Week 17 Live + 7; 13 January, 2014 Based on week Fourteen ratings. Week fourteen was quite light on new programming, and as a result, there were only six shows that had Live + 7 numbers. During week this week, TBBT was a repeat so no Live + 7 numbers. The number one show in the demo this week was Sunday Night Football (SNF) with 9.3. I generally don't include SNF, as when the Live + 7 data comes out, SNF's increases are so small, it's not included in the top 25 of the Live + 7. This is the fourth time that SNF has made the list and all the increases have been on about the same level.Second place was SNF Pregame with a 4.8 and third was the 20/20 with a 1.2. In terms of demo lift, the top three were, at tie at Number 1 20/20 and Nikita at 0.1 and third was SNF at 0.0. I don't have the actual demo raw numbers, otherwise I would calculate it. For viewers, the top show was SNF with 27.49 million viewers second was was SNF Pregame with 14.50 Million and in third was 20/20 with 5.92 Million. The top three in terms of viewer lift were 20/20 with 416,000, Nikita, with 332,000,and SNF with 129,000. For comparison, the average new show for TBBT, so far this season, have been demo lift of 2.5 with a total 7.7 Live + 7 demo. In terms of viewers, TBBT has averaged a lift of 5.5 Million giving a Live + 7 total number of viewers of 23.47 million viewers.Note huge difference in the lift numbers Between TBBT and SNF. While the viewing numbers for SNF are so huge, there is very little lift as sports events, are live events. Very few people who can't watch the game, watch it after recording it. While those are the numbers for a new show, during week 14, a TBBT rerun (6.23, The Love Spell Potential) pulled in a 2.6 demo and 10.98 million viewers for the Live + Same Day. Next weeks numbers will include the numbers from the first week in January (and TBBT numbers for the January 2 broadcast). Tensor Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Week 18; 19 January 2014 Week 18 Live + 7; 21 January, 2014 Based on week Fifteen ratings. In a week that was a bit light, as the New Year started int he middle of the week, The TBBT (7.12, The Hesitation Ramification) took highs in everything this week as it was number one non-sports show in the total demo (7.9) and viewers (24.76 Million) and also had the highest lift in viewers (5.56 million) and demo (2.5). In demo, TBBT had that 7.9, second place was The Simpsons with a 4.8 and third was the Family Guy with a 3.8. In terms of demo lift, the top three were TBBT with 2.5, second place was Elementary at 1.5 and third was Grimm at 1.2. For viewers, the top show was TBBT with 24.76 million viewers and second was Elementary with 14.00 Million and in third was The Mentalist with 13.56 Million. It should be noted that in its Live + Same Day, TBBT pulled in 19.20 million viewers, FIVE million more than any other show pulled in after seven days of DVR viewing. TBBT had over TEN million more viewers than any show in Live + 7. The top three in terms of viewer lift were TBBT with 5.57 million, Elementary, with 4.96 million, and The Mentalist with 3.33 million. Interestingly, TBBT has settled down into grabbing an average of about 5.5 million viewers and a 2.5 demo of one week DVR viewing, on a consistent basis. It did that this week, even with a big live viewer week, with weak competition. Even though live viewing may fluctuate from week to week, DVR viewers is becoming increasingly consistent. In the Live + 7, the 24.76 million viewers are the third highest this year (and ever) and the 7.9 total demo was tied for the second highest this year. The OT (Post Game Show 11.3 rating points with 14.37 MIllion demo viewers, and 30.34 Million total viewers. Note those numbers for the football game. TBBT regularly pulls in about a 5.5 demo. And the number of 18-49 viewers are higher than all but two Big Bang Theory Live + 7 day Total Viewers. And, note that there is only one show that will beat the 55.9 million viewers, The Super Bowl. For the post game show, the number of 18-49 viewers is higher than the average number of total viewers than every show but three (NCIS, TBBT, and NCIS:LA). Those numbers are why Networks are so hot to pick up games during the year. The week to week numbers are no where near those numbers, but they generally pull in more demo and total viewers than any other show (exceptions are NCIS and to a lesser extent TBBT). That said, note that TBBT repeat had more viewers than the show that was after the football game (TBBT had 12.03 million viewers and The Following had only 11.18 million), although it did beat TBBT in demo (4.2-2.9). Another point is that American Idol dropped eight tenths of a demo point from Wednesday to Thursday. I can't say how much but TBBT repeat had something to do with that. It was the number 1 program in demo (8.0) and viewers (25.28 Million), along with having the highest lift in both demo (2.3) and viewers (4.94). The total demo and viewers were both the second highest this season (and second highest ever for the series). On interesting thing, while this episode had the second most Live + SD viewers in the shows history, it was the first time this year that the Live + 7 lift was below 5 million (and it was only 60,000 short. In demo, TBBT led with that 8.0, second was Modern Family with a 5.6 and in third was NCIS with a 4.1. Those were the only shows with a demo above a 4.0. In demo lift it was TBBT in first with 2.3, Modern Family with 2.1, and then a tie between Elementary and New Girl at 1.5. It should be noted that TBBT had a Live + SD demo of 5.7, higher than all the other show's Live + 7 demo numbers. This is the second time this year that TBBT hit an 8.0 demo (7.02 was the other), one of two shows to hit a 8.0 demo (the other was The Walking Dead). In total viewers TBBT was in first with 25.28 million, NCIS had 24.67 million and in third was Intelligence with 19.73 million. In terms of lift, there was TBBT with 4.94 Million, in second was Elementary, with 4.73 and in third was Person of Interest with 4.50. The total number for Intelligence comes with an asterisk. It premiered after NCIS, supported by NCIS' huge lead in (in NCIS:LA's normal slot). The number for Intelligence dropped drastically the next week. Note that TBBT's 20.35 million of Live + SD viewers was higher than all but NCIS' Live + 7 total viewers. For it's time slot, TBBT was up against four shows, three that ran an hour (and one of those ran for two). The combined demo and total viewers for those other shows was a 6. 2 demo with 20.10 million viewers, about 45% of total demo for the timeslot, and 45% of the total viewers. I will edit this post later today into the Final Ratings Post, the time the finals are release will determine when. Tensor Final Ratings 24 January, 2014 Week 19 For Thursday 30 January broadcasts TBBT returned with a new episode last night (7.15, The Convention Conumdrum) it was the high in both demo (5.1 5.2) and viewers (18.87 19.05) for the night and for it's timeslot. Normally TBBT is adjusted up (due to the extra minute it runs) and I would expect it to go up a tenth to 5.2 and 300.000 viewers to 19.20 million. It was up one tenth and 180,000 viewers First in demo was TBBT with a 5.1 5.2. Second was American Idol, with a 3.1 3.2 and third was The Millers with 2.8 2.6. In total viewers, the TBBT was number one with 18.87 19.05 million viewers. The Millers was second with 11.79 11.50 million and American Idol was third at 11.23 11.42 million viewers. Last week I said it was going to be interesting to see what happens with American Idol facing a New TBBT for the first time. For their common half hour (from 8-8:30 PM), TBBT almost doubled American Idol in the demo 5.1 5.2 to 2.8 and in total viewers, TBBT again almost doubled American Idol 18.87 19.05 million to 10.43 Million. American Idol was down a four tenths of a demo point (3.2 to 2.8 ) and down by almost 900.000 viewers. (11.31 to 10.43 million) from it's prior week. Note that the increases in the Idol ratings occurred in the second half of the show, against The Millers. For it's time slot, TBBT was up against four shows, three that ran an hour (and one of those ran for two). The combined demo and total viewers for those other shows was a 6.2 6.5 demo with 20.10 20.48 million viewers, about 45% of total demo for the timeslot, and 45% of the total viewers. Tensor Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) Week 20; 02 February, 2014 Week 20 Schedule; 04 February, 2014 Here is a new feature for the Ratings Thread. There has been quite a few questions as to what is taping, when the names, when are new episodes airing, etc. As a result of that, I thought it best to keep a running schedule for tapings and what is airing when in one place that is readily accessible. As as result, I thought to keep it in the ratings thread, updating it throughout the week. Next Year, we may put it into an different thread, but for now I'm keeping it updated, so we'll keep it in the ratings thread. If this is something you would like to see continue, please either "like" this or send me a PM. If you don't like this or have a suggestion for improving it, please PM me to keep the thread clear. Thanks. Here's how this is going to work, each Monday (or possibly Sunday night) I will make this the first post of the week. Black indicates no show, Green indicates new episodes, Light Purple are reruns. I will start with week with these colors. Throughout the week, as we discover changes to the schedule, names, dates, etc. I will make the changes in Red. This way, everyone can see what changes are made throughout the week. I will be looking for the changes, but if anyone sees updated information, feel free to PM me so I can make the changes here. One word of caution, I will not update the names until I have have verification of the title from a few different sources. The confusion over the name of the episode that tape last week (first it was reported as The Conjunction Junction and then as The Table for Polarization. Week 20 Live + 7, 03 January, 2014 Based on Week 17 ratings. TBBT was in Reruns for this week with episode 7.03 The Scavenger Vortex. The number one program in demo was The Following (5.6) and in viewers was NCIS (23.99 Million). The high in lift in demo was Modern Family (2.1) and viewers was The Blacklist (6.06). One note, The Following aired after the NFC Championship game, and thus had the lead in of a 19.0 demo, with 24 million demo viewers (55 million total). In demo, The Following had that 5.6, in second Modern Family with a 5.3 and in third was The Blacklist with a 4.5. In demo lift it was Modern Family in first with 2.1, The Blacklist with 2.0, and then a tie between Marvel Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. and Criminal Minds at 1.5. In total viewers NCIS had the 23.99 million, in second was NCIS:LA with 19.16 and in third was The Wednesday American Idol with 17.77 million. In terms of lift, there was The Blacklist with 6.06 Million, in second was Person of Interest, with 4.82 and in third was Castle with 4.69. It's interesting to see that while The Following had that huge lead-in, and it helped it's demo, it's total viewers were only 14+ Million, in sixth place. Even with the rerun, and thus not having any DVR data, TBBT would have finished in 15th in demo with a 2.9 and in 12th with its 12.3 million viewers. Tensor Tuesday, February 04, 2014; Weekly Rankings Week 20 Ratings based on Week Ninteen numbers. TBBT episode 7.15 The Convention Conumdrum This was Super Bowl week. As a result, I am going to remove all things associated with it. This includes the game, the pre and post game and the broadcast of the two show after the Superbowl as their numbers are drastically inflated. I will include those numbers at the end of the post. Discounting those two telecasts, the highest demo of the week, for scripted or competition shows belonged to TBBT with a 5.2, It also led viewers with 19.05 million viewers. Superbowl Post Game Recap 25.5 demo points with 32.34 million demo viewers. Total viewers were 65.78 Million. New Girl 11.4 demo points with 14.42 million demo viewers. Total viewers were 26.30 Million. Brooklyn Nine Nine 6.9 demo points with 8.75 million demo viewers. Total viewers were 15.06 Million. To give you an idea of the power of being telecast after the Superbowl, the ratings for the last New Girl and Brooklyn Nine Nine are as follows New Girl 1.9 demo points with 3.75 million total viewers. Brooklyn Nine Nine 1.9 demo points with 4.55 million total viewers. It's interesting to note that even with the big post game numbers leading into Brooklyn Nine Nine, TBBT still had more viewers than Brooklyn Nine Nine 19.04 to 15.06 million. I will get to the Syndicated ratings up tomorrow. Tensor Posted on 05 February, 2014, Syndication for Week 20. Based on week Ninteen ratings. Wheel of Fortune(WF) again lead in both viewers and households, while TBBT finished fourth in both measures this week. In the household rating (we normally look at the 18-49 demo, but in syndication, it's more how many households and total viewers). WF was first with a 7.9 household rating and Judge Judy(JJ)was second only a tenth behind at 7.8. Jeopardy(JY) was third with a 7.3 and TBBT pulled in a 6.7 for fourth. In the ranking for total viewers, WF was again first, scoring 12.57 million viewers, JY was in second with 11.56 million, JJ was third with 11.02 million and TBBT was in fourth with 10.96 million. The weekend edition (two nights) of TBBT was in seventh place with a 4.9 household rating with Modern Family at 5.1. They flipped in viewers with TBBT pulling in with 8.02 million viewers and Modern Family had 7.94 Million. If you look at the actual ratings listing, a Saturday morning program called Weekend Adventure is listed in the top five. Due to a quirk of how the syndicated ratings are collected, Saturday kid's shows show up in the evening syndication ratings, although they shouldn't. I generally pull that show out when figuring relative standings. Tensor New and Notes for Week 20; 05 February, 2014 A note from yesterday. I had pulled the shows New Girl and Brooklyn Nine Nine out of the weekly rankings, due to the lead in from the Superbowl giving them artificially high ratings. New Girl had a an 11.4 demo with 26.30 million viewers and Brooklyn Nine Nine had a 6.9 demo with 15.06 million viewers. Last night, the ratings for the two were:New Girl 1.6 demo (down 9.8 from the Superbowl) with 3.48 Million viewers (down almost 23 million viewers) Brooklyn Nine Nine 1.4 demo (down 5.5 from the Superbowl) with 3.22 Million viewers (down almost 12 Million viewers) The huge numbers following the Super Bowl didn't even help the two series on their regular night. New Girl was down three tenths and 300,000 viewers off their average. Brooklyn Nine Nine was down a full half a point and 1.3 million off of it's average. Tensor Overnights 07 February, 2014 Week 20 For Thursday 06 February broadcasts For the first time in two years, a new TBBT (7.14, The Locomotive Manipulation) did not win it's timeslot. The Olympics had the high in both demo and viewers for the night and for it's timeslot. This is not to say TBBT did not do well. As you'll see, it help pretty steady, considering the large numbers the Olympics pulled in. First in demo was The Olympics with a 5.8. Second was TBBT, with a 5.0 and third was American Idol with 3.0. In total viewers, The Olympics was number one with 19.50 million viewers. TBBT was second with 17.02 million and American Idol was third at 10.94 million viewers. Normally TBBT is adjusted up (due to the extra minute it runs). Not sure about this week, due to the Oympics, but I'lI go with up a tenth to 5.1 and 200.000 viewers to 17.20 million. I do expect a pretty high number in the Live + 7 in a couple of weeks. One thing to note. Against TBBT, the first night of broadcast for the Olympics were down 23% from the first night in 2010. I will edit this post later today into the Final Ratings Post, the time the finals are release will determine when. Remember, those TBBT ratings were achieved WITHOUT ANY DVR VIEWERS INCLUDED. Both shows in the top 20. For the season, TBBT Live + Same Day ratings are a 5.3 demo with 18.24 million viewers. Normally TBBT is adjusted up (due to the extra minute it runs), but with the Olympics and it being a repeat, I really don't have a good handle on what the adjustments might be. First in demo was Olympics with a 5.9. Second was American Idol, with a 2.9 and third was TBBT with 2.8. In total viewers, the Olympics were again number one with 22.89 million viewers. TBBT was second with 11.77 million and American Idol was third at 9.88 million viewers. While American Idolin its entirety, beat TBBT in demo 2.9 to 2.8, it was behind in viewers 11.77 to 9.88. However, looking at the common half hour, TBBT tied with AI at 2.8, while AI total viewers were only 9.28 for that half hour. Also, it's interesting to note that while the Olympics had a 5.9 demo, with 22.89 million, during the common half hour with TBBT, the demo was only 4.4, with only 18.63 million viewers. That was the only half hour the Olympics were below a 5.7 (over a full demo point below at 4.4. The 8:30 half hour was at 5.7, the rest were above 6.0) and below 22 million viewers (well, the 10:30 PM half hour was 21.90). Judge Judy(JJ) led housholds this week, while Wheel of Fortune(WF) again lead in viewers, while TBBT finished fourth in both measures this week. In the household rating (we normally look at the 18-49 demo, but in syndication, it's more how many households and total viewers). JJ was first with a 8.6 household rating, the highest syndicated household rating this year, and (WF)was second at 7.6. Jeopardy(JY) was third with a 7.3 and TBBT pulled in a 7.0 for fourth. In the ranking for total viewers, WF was again first, scoring 12.07 million viewers, JJ was in second with 11.91 million, JY was third with 11.44 million and TBBT was in fourth with 11.14 million. The weekend edition (two nights) of TBBT was in seventh place with a 4.8 household rating and 8.05 million viewers. The full week Modern Family was in sixth with a 5.2 household rating and 8.06 Million, only 10,000 viewers behind the weekend-only TBBT. Tensor Overnights 21 February, 2014 Week 22 For Thursday 20 February broadcasts TBBT ran a repeat last night, (7.07, The Proton Displacement), against the Olympics and a New Idol and it pulled in a 2.6. I really don't have a good handle on what the adjustments might be, so after last week, I'm just going to let it go and see where it comes in. First in demo was Olympics with a 4.9. Second was TBBT with a 2.6 and third was American Idol with 2.4. (The 2.4 was a SERIES low for AI) That's right, continuing the trend from last year, a TBBT beat a new American Idol in demo. In total viewers, the Olympics were again number one with 19.93 million viewers. TBBT was second with 10.06 million and American Idol was third at 9.19 million viewers. All of the top three were down versus last week. For the half hour splits, TBBT, with its 2.6 was ahead of American Idol with a 2.3 for the common half hour. TBBT also beat it in viewers 10.06 to 8.77. For the common half hour, the Olympics was still first in demo and viewers, but was way down on the entire night, only pulling in a 3.3 demo, with 14.97 million, 1.6 demo points down and down five million viewers. during the common half hour with TBBT, the demo was only 4.4, with only 18.63 million viewers. There has been some speculation that a new TBBT would definitely have beaten The Olympics during the common half hour and probably beaten it demo for the night. One other interesting thing, CBS looks to be playing with their schedule a bit, bringing in from Monday a Mom repeat to follow TBBT. The Mom repeat almost tied its series low, for new shows, with a repeat last night. The series low for Mom, for new shows is a 1.9. Last night, following TBBT, it pulled in a 1.8, with 7.16 million viewers. It has averaged a 7.64 million viewers for new shows, this season. So how did Mom do compared to the regular occupant of the post TBBT slot, The Millers? Well The Millers' new shows average a 2.7 demo and 11.27 million viewers. But Mom was a repeat, how did it fare compared to The Millers repeats? Well, a Mom repeat beat The Millers average repeat 1.6 to 1.3 in demo and 7.16 million viewers to The Millers average number of repeat viewers, 6.08. So, Mom did better than The Millers, when paired with TBBT. I will edit this post later today into the Final Ratings Post, the time the finals are release will determine when. Tensor Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) Week 23; 23 February, 2014 Week 23 Live + 7, 25 February, 2014 Based on Week 20 ratings. OK, this was the week that the Olympics started. TBBT had a new episode 7.14 The Locomotive Manipulation. I was expecting the DVR lift to be a bit higher than normal. You know, watch the Olympics, tape TBBT to watch later. Well, it was more than a bit higher than normal, the demo lift was 2.8 points, the highest in series history and viewer lift also set a series record with 6.4 million viewers. I can't stress how ridiculous those numbers are, especially the demo. The seven day lift would have been tied the TBBT repeat for third place in demo last week (week 22) and the viewer lift would have put it in the top ten in viewers. I realize that last was down due to the Olympics and most other shows running repeats, but even going back to the last week before the Olympics, while the viewers would not have made the top ten, the 2.8 demo would have put it in fifth place. In total demo, TBBT had a 8.0, the third time this year and sixth overall that the series was 8.0 or above. in second was Modern Family with a 5.6 and in third was How I Met Your Mother with a 5.3. In demo lift it was TBBT in first with 2.8, second was Modern Family with 2.1, and in third was a tie between Elementary and How I Met Your Mother at 1.5. In total viewers TBBT led with 24.03 million, in second was NCIS with 23.76 and in third was NCIS:LA with 19.64 million. In terms of lift, there was TBBT with 6.49 million, in second was Elementary, with 4.94 million and in third was Person of Interest with 4.8 million. For the week, Modern Family and How I Met Your Mother were the only shows, with the addition of DVR viewers, to reach TBBT demo, without DVR viewers, at 5.2. In terms of total viewers, NCIS and NCIS:LA were the only shows beating TBBT's 17.53 million without DVR viewers (in fact NCIS was high for same day for the week with 19.53 million same day viewers.) While specials aren't included with Live + 7, the Olympics for that week had three nights that beat TBBT total viewers and only one night that beat the demo. Tensor Tuesday, February 25, 2014; Weekly Rankings Week 23 Ratings based on Week Twenty-two numbers. TBBT ran a repeat last week, 7.07 The Proton Displacement. And, while the Olympics dominated the ratings, TBBT pulled off a surprise of it's own. Since the Olympics are a special sporting event, I will pull them out of the ranking and give the range of their ratings for the week, highest and lowest. Not counting the Olympics, the highest demo of the week, for scripted or competition shows belonged to a special Tuesday American Idol with a 2.7, the leader with viewers was TBBT repeat, with 10.16 million viewers. Yes, that was the surprise, TBBT had the highest number of viewers for broadcast entertainment programs WITH A REPEAT. The top ten in demo follows. The leaders have been the same for several weeks and this week is no different. Judge Judy(JJ) led housholds this week, while Wheel of Fortune(WF) again lead in viewers and TBBT finished fourth in both measures. In the household rating (we normally look at the 18-49 demo, but in syndication, it's more how many households and total viewers). JJ was first with a 7.6 household rating, the highest syndicated household rating this year, and (WF)was second at 7.2. Jeopardy(JY) was third with a 6.7 and TBBT pulled in a 6.4 for fourth. In the ranking for total viewers, WF was again first, scoring 11.49 million viewers, JY moved up to second with 10.63 million, JJ dropped to third with 10.53 million and TBBT was in fourth with 10.06 million. The weekend edition (two nights) of TBBT was in seventh place with a 4.5, and sixth in household rating and 7.53 million viewers. The full week Modern Family was in sixth with a 4.7 household rating and in seventh in viewers with 7.26 Million. Ratings were down across the board this week, which is interesting. I could blame it on the Olympics airing, but last week they were airing and syndication pulled in some of the highest numbers of the year. Tensor News and Notes for Week 23, February 27,2014 I was doing some checking on TBBT repeat ratings the other day and I thought I’d share some, what I thought was, interesting information. I’m going to be comparing TBBT repeats, with the ratings for new shows this year. Before we get to that, I want to go over some terms and an explanation. The demo, is the ratings for the 18-49 age range, which are the hardest to reach, as they watch less TV. One ratings point is approximately 1.2 million 18-49 viewers. We’re going to look at three different kinds of repeats. Out of Night, Out of Time Slot, and In Time Slot. Out of night would be how CBS ran TBBT on Monday nights, replacing We Are Men, until Mike and Molly first aired. There were three of these. An Out of Time Slot example would be a show airing on Thursday night, but not at 8:00 PM. There were two of these. And finally, there are those repeats that run on Thursdays, at 8:00 PM, there have been six of these. There have been a total of eleven repeats aired this year, so far. Currently, as an average, a new TBBT is pulling in a 5.27 demo and 18.42 million viewers. For all eleven repeats, the demo is 2.63, with 10.27 Million viewers. This may seem rather weak when compared to the TBBT ratings for new shows. However, when you consider the second place show, Modern Family has only a a 3.67, more than 1.5 points below TBBT, it doesn’t look quite as bad. It also gives you an idea of what a beast TBBT has become. As a matter of fact, that 2.63 demo puts in in 11th place, for all NEW shows for the season. The 10.27 million viewers ties it with Modern Family for ninth place in total viewers. Moving to repeats shown on Thursdays (whether or not in the 8:00PM time), the demo rises to a 2.7, with 10.72 million viewers. That 2.7 cracks the top ten for the year at ninth place. The 10.72 million viewers ties The Blacklist for eighth place in total viewers. Finally, we’re going to look at only those repeats that aired in the time slot that new TBBT shows air, 8:00 PM on Thursdays. That demo is 2.87, with 11.69 million viewers. That demo brings the repeats up to seventh place, and those 11.69 million viewers crack the top five, in fifth place. Only new shows of NCIS, original TBBT, NCIS:LA and Person of Interest pull in more viewers than repeats of TBBT that air at 8:00 PM on Thursday. Notice that repeats of TBBT that air at 8:00 PM on Thursdays average more viewers than the average number of viewers of any other first run sitcom. As a matter of fact the average for all TBBT repeats bring in more viewers than any other NEW sitcoms, being tied with Modern Family. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I mentioned in the above that currently, as an average, a new TBBT is pulling in a 5.27 demo and 18.42 million viewers. How does that compare with last year? In demo, in terms of raw numbers, it's down, year to year, by nine-hundreths (0.09), 5.36 to 5.27 this year. However, while being down that nine-hundredths of a ratings point may seem as if things are turning down, it is the only broadcast show with a demo above 5.0 and the closest show is under 4.0. Also, it needs to be pointed out that overall television viewing is down 9% so far this year. Based on the decrease in television viewing, TBBT should have a demo around 4.83, almost a half a point lower than they are right now(5.27). In actually, although they are down ever so slightly in terms of raw numbers, they are actually growing compared to the decrease in television viewing overall. In terms of viewers, it's pulling in about 1.5 million more than last year, 16.77 million to 18.24 this year. So, unlike the case of the demo, even in raw numbers, its up. Including the 9% reduction in viewers, TBBT should have about 15.1 million viewers to stay even. However, it's up just over 3.1 million from that number. So, in terms of viewers, it's gotten even bigger, both in raw numbers and compared to the downturn in overall television viewers. Tensor Overnights 28 February, 2014 Week 23 For Thursday 27 February broadcasts TBBT ran a new episode last night (7.16, The Table Polarization), bringing in a 4.9, with 17.50 million people. While that looks low, it pulled in a 16 share, which is actually higher than the 15 share on January 30th. That had a 5.2 demo with 18.29 million. This indicates that overall viewing seemed to be down last night. Although I expect to see an adjustment up for TBBT, call it a tenth and 200,000 viewers. Even down, TBBT was first by a wide margin with that 4.9. Second was Scandal with 3.3 and in third was Grey's Anatomy with 3.0. In total viewers, TBBT was number one with 17.50 million viewers. The Millers was second with 11.24 million and Two and A Half Men was third at 10.05 million viewers (more on this below). For the half hour splits, TBBT, with its 4.9 more than doubled the demo of American Idol with a 2.2 for the common half hour. TBBT also almost doubled American Idol in viewers 17.50 million to 9.35 million. More interesting is that The Millers also beat American Idol in demo 2.8 to 2.4 and in viewers 11.24 million to 10.27 million. American Idol finished the night in sixth place, with a 2.3 demo and less than 10 million viewers (9.81). The 2.3 demo was a series low. As for the sitcoms on NBC, Community came in with a 1.0 and 2.62 million viewers and Parks and Recreation also had a 1.0 with 2.46 million viewers. CBS has made a change to their schedule, by putting Two and A Half Men at 9:00 PM and moving The Crazy Ones to 9:30. It seemed to have worked for Two and A Half Men as they were three tenths higher than their average demo this year and over a million viewers higher than their average. As for The Crazy Ones while it was about two tenths lower than their yearly average, they were higher than two recent episodes, and tied two others with the 1.9 they got last night. So, an improvement for Two and A Half Men and staying steady for The Crazy Ones seems like a win for CBS. It does appear though that The Crazy Ones is the one sitcom that is in trouble right now. I will edit this post later today into the Final Ratings Post, the time the finals are release will determine when. Tensor Final Thursday Ratings 28 February, 2014 Week 23 For Thursday 27 February broadcasts TBBT ran a new episode last night (7.16, The Table Polarization), bringing in a 4.9 5.0 , with 17.50 17.73 million people. It adjusted up one tenth and 230,000 viewers. Even down, TBBT was first by a wide margin with that 4.9 5.0. Second was Scandal with 3.3 3.4 and in third was Grey's Anatomy with 3.0. In total viewers, TBBT was number one with 17.50 million viewers. The Millers was second with 11.24 million and Two and A Half Men was third at 10.05 million viewers (more on this below).Note, I do not have the half hour splits for the final ratings, so this section is only based on the overnights, except for the series low for Idol. For the half hour splits, TBBT, with its 4.9 5.0 more than doubled the demo of American Idol with a 2.2 for the common half hour. TBBT also almost doubled American Idol in viewers 17.50 million to 9.35 million. TBBT also was almost 75 percent higher than American Idol in viewers 17.50 17.73 million to 9.35 million. The 2.4 demo tied a series low. As for the sitcoms on NBC, Community came in with a 1.0 and 2.62 million 2.56 million viewers and Parks and Recreation also had a 1.0 1.1 with 2.46 million 2.52 million viewers. It does appear though that The Crazy Ones is the one sitcom that is in danger of not being renewed at the end of the season, right now. Week 24 Live + 7, 3 March, 2014 Based on Week 21 ratings. OK, this was the second week, and first full week, for the Olympics. TBBT ran a repeat, (7.05, The Workplace Proximity) and as a result, there are no Live + 7 data for TBBT this week. At the end of the post, I will provide TBBT average numbers for it's Live + 7 and its ratings for that week and see how it did, against shows that included Live + 7 data. In first place in total demo, was the Wednesday American Idol with a 4.2, in second was the Thursday American Idol with a 3.8 and in third was The Following with a 3.2. In demo lift it was The Following in first with 1.5, second was New Girl with 1.3, and in third was between Almost Human at 1.2. In total viewers, Wednesday American Idol with with 13.54 million, in second was Thursday American Idol with 12.06 and in third was Intelligence with 10.71 million. In terms of lift, there was Intelligence with 3.58 million, in second was The Following, with 3.53 million and in third was Almost Human with 2.86 million. For comparison, during the week shown here (week 21,) the Live + Same Day ratings for TBBT, with the repeat of 7.05, The Workplace Proximity, was a 2.8 demo, with 11.78 million viewers. That would have placed it fifth in demo and third in viewers, for the Live + 7 ratings. Think about that, the ratings for a repeat of TBBT, which only includes the Same Day viewing, was in fifth, in demo and third, in viewers, when all the other shows included seven days worth of DVR viewing. The previous week's Live + 7 ratings for TBBT (against the first night of the Olympics), had a demo lift of 2.8 (to an 8.0) with a 6.49 million viewer lift (to 24.03 Million viewers). For the year, TBBT is averaging a 2.49 demo lift, with a 7.76 total demo. In viewers, TBBT is averaging a 5.56 million lift, while averaging 23.81 million viewers. Tensor Tuesday, March 4, 2014; Weekly Rankings Week 24 Ratings based on Week Twenty-three numbers. With the Olympics ending, TBBT had a new episode (7.16, The Table Polarization). And, while the Olympics ended, the weekly ratings include the Oscars. Since the Oscars are a special event, I will pull them out of the ranking, as I usually do with these things and give them separately at the end of the post. The highest demo of the week, for scripted or competition shows, belonged to TBBT which is the usual situation. Tensor Posted on 04 March, 2014, Syndication for Week 24. Based on week Twenty-three ratings. JJ was first with a 7.8 household rating, and (WF)was second at 7.0. Jeopardy(JY) was third with a 6.7 and TBBT pulled in a 6.2 for fourth. In the ranking for total viewers, WF was again first, scoring 11.12 million viewers, JJ moved back up to second with 10.72 million, JY dropped to third with 10.43 million and TBBT was in fourth with 9.74 million. The weekend edition (two nights) of TBBT tied for sixth place with Modern Family (the full week edition) at 4.7. TBBT weekend edition, was in sixth with 7.52 million viewers and Modern Family was in seventh with 7.11 million viewers. Tensor News and Notes Week 24; Posted on 5 March 2014 As a note, via a CBS press release, TBBT has picked up 2.2 demo points and 4.63 million viewers in Live + 3 Day lift. That brings the demo to a 7.2 (up from 5.0 Live + Same Day) and to 22.36 million viewers (up from 17.73 Million Live + Same Day). For reference, TBBT picks up an average of 2.5 demo points and 5.50 Million viewers in Live + 7 lift. FOX has announced that it will be moving the American Idol Thursday results show, to 9:00 PM, from 8:00 PM on Thursdays, where it now airs opposite TBBT. The show will also be reduced from one hour to a half hour. Both changes will start on March 27, 2014. In it's place at 8:00 PM, FOX will start airing Hell's Kitchen. It was two seasons ago when TBBT first beat Idol for the common half hour and then, later that season, the half hour TBBT beat the total hour of Idol. Last season, TBBT first beat a new Idol with a TBBT repeat. This season, in the four head to head nights, the Thursday edition of American Idol has averaged a 2.92 demo and 10.51 million viewers. Compared to TBBT which has averaged a 4.07 demo and 15.39 Million viewers. It should be noted that two of the four TBBT shows were repeats. Overnights 07 March, 2014 Week 24 For Thursday 06 March broadcasts TBBT ran a new episode last night (7.17, The Friendship Turbulence), bringing in a 5.2, with 17.91 million people. The share increased a tick to 17. This week has been generally down, so it's good to see TBBT holdind steady. I expect to see an adjustment up for TBBT, call it a tenth and 250,000 viewers. TBBT again dominated with that 5.2. Second was The Millers with 3.0 and in third was Scandal with 2.8. In total viewers, TBBT was number one with 17.91 million viewers. The Millers was second with 11.78 million and Two and A Half Men was third at 10.45 million viewers (more on this below). For the half hour splits, TBBT, with its 5.2, had a higher demo than all four of the other networks combined. (5.2 to 5.0 AI had a 2.1, Community a 1.0) and it was the same in viewers (TBBT 17.91 to 17.65. AI had 9.31 million, Community 2.79 million. TBBT also almost doubled American Idol in viewers 17.50 million to 9.35 million. More interesting is that The Millers again also beat American Idol. In fact, The Millers beat AI even worse than last week with a 3.0 in demo to a 2.2 for AI. In viewers The Millers Beat AI 11.78 million to 10.10 million, a larger gap then last week. American Idol again finished the night with a series low 2.2 demo. As for the sitcoms on NBC, Community came in with a 1.0 and 2.79 million viewers and Parks and Recreation had a 1.2 with 2.89 million viewers. The change to the CBS schedule, by putting Two and A Half Men at 9:00 PM and moving The Crazy Ones to 9:30, seems to be working for Two and A Half Men. It was up again this week, to the highest demo and total viewers since the season premier. If these numbers keep up, it will have a good chance for renewal for it's twelfth season. This would tie it for the second longest run for a live action sitcom, with My Three Sons. As for The Crazy Ones, it fell again this week to a series low 1.7. This does not bode well for it's renewal. One final note, that I will continue to point out through next week, Daylights Savings Time starts this coming Sunday, in the US. As a result, historically, viewing levels, especially for the 8 PM hour drop. If last year is any indication, TBBT will drop, on average, about a half a ratings point, and 1.5 to 2 million viewers. I will edit this post later today into the Final Ratings Post. While the time the finals are released usually determine when I post them, I also have rehearsal tonight, so if they come out too much later than they do, I may not get to the finals until late tonight, after I get home.
