phantagrae
I checked again, and I cannot find Micucci and Lindhome credited for the song. That's a huge oversight, and it bothers me. They were, however, credited in this article, which also gives some great back story to the song: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/big-bang-theorys-kate-micucci-650835. Yeah, they're not credited in the end credits of the show, but I believe they are credited on iTunes. And speaking of the iTunes version of the song, I downloaded it, but I actually prefer the version they did at the taping. The iTunes version has the studio polish and bigger sound, but the taping version was much more emotionally immediate. You can see and hear the real emotion behind the purpose of the song in the taping, but that's not really present in the iTunes version. It's still cute, but doesn't really have the same emotional tone. That's the part of the episode that I hated. It reminded me of the Brady Bunch putting on a variety show or Potsie singing. Normally I have a very strict "no singing on TV" policy, especially when it's a character who normally never sings, or someone gets up to do karaoke in order to finally express their hidden true love!!! Blech. HOWEVER, I've never been bothered by the way this show uses music and singing because it's either unexpected, like drunk!Sheldon busting out on "To Life!", or it's something cute and funny, but with some sincerity, like last night. It was more serious than the show usually gets, but it was leavened by cleverness of the lyrics and by the real ness of the emotions. It did not seem at all self-conscious or like a "wink" at the audience.

carl1970
Ugh ... This episode was terrible. I thought it was poorly written, and I think the writers have finally run out of ideas on what to do with Len/Pen. Howard's song was goofy and I think I've just about had enough of horse faced Amy mooning after her asexual boyfriend. These "relationship" episodes are the WORST! If this is what this show is going to be all about now, this may be the last season I watch it... What a shame. It used to be so brilliant. Ah yes, a post from a Leonard/Amy bashing Romantic Shenny about this episode. I get it, there were no Shenny scenes so obviously the episode must suck (sarcasm). Just one question, was the " horse faced Amy" comment really necessary?
ArmyGirl
...... Thanks to Sheldon and his outstanding performance, this episode was saved. For me Sheldon was the weak link in the episode. It's the same each week with Sheldon and he rarely saves the show for me.

mjc45
WOW--what great episode for all the couples: howard/bernie--that song gave a little tear down my face. it was a nice save from last week episode lie of the workplace. (why has simon not won a award yet.) sheldon/amy--that was sweet, the kiss noooooo (it was a dream),i had jump out of my chair. the road to the real kiss is comming. how many times has sheldon be wrong, he is human. leonard/penny--it was nice to see penny try to do romantic think for leonard. pennys box gave me chills down my back somethink big is going happen. I get it, there were no Shenny scenes so obviously the episode must suck (sarcasm). Just one question, was the " horse faced Amy" comment really necessary? This episode, I believe, was the most painful for a Shenny in the history of the series. I can understand why Shennys are in agony. - Leonard is the object of romance for Penny without sex being the end game.. - Amy "gets" Sheldon. She is the only one who does. Nothing tears down the Shenny facade like those two canon acts
Moonbase
I don't understand why people think the song was a low point of the show, it's not like the show never had musical moments before: Sheldon playing and singing Fiddler on the Roof at the Cheesecake Factory, Howard romancing Bernadette at the Cheesecake Factory, Sheldon and Beverly singing karaoke, the guys playing Band Hero, Howard and Amy singing Neil Diamond. So, yes, the context was a bit sappier this time, but I thought the actual content of the song made a good job to dissipate the cheesiness (I also thought it was going to be a bit cringeworthy, but changed my mind when I heard the song). I personally still have "And he'd definitely still live with his mom" stuck in my head. LOL. All those other instances were short and funny. This was long.... and it felt like they were doing a stage show ABOUT the show, within the show. If you know what I mean. I liked Bernadette in this scene but that was it. I think maybe the way the gang where standing there looked wrong, or something. Edited October 26, 2013 by Moonbase
3ku11
Shenny is like Santa Clause, it really hurt's when you realize it was just a big old facade lol. Truthfully though Shenny never existed in the show, it was a deconstructed notion and idea that developed on the internet, so I don't know why anyone who watche's the show would be surprised that Penny is now falling in love with Leonard, and Amy is the only one who really 'get's" Sheldon. In the show other then the soft kitty scene's which for the record you could tell Penny was not enjoying that lol, Bath Item Hug, a few more hug's e.t.c. Penny has always seen Sheldon as like a brother, they have this peculiar, intimate chemistry, and they spar because they wan't nothing from each other. With Leonard it is more this subtle, physical, and romantic chemistry with history that has developed over time. And depending on how you like character's interacting, you may ship Shenny because of this and that's fine, but to be fair what show do they think they have been watching, Leonard has always been the object of desire romantically for Penny, and Sheldon, Howard, and Raj have been secondary to that. It has been said over and over and 95 % who watch the show realize this, it's just their is still some holding out for this vague, slim hope that the writer's well pair up Sheldon and Penny, truth is the writer's had every oppurtunity 5 year's ago, that's if they wanted to ruin the show, but they diddn't, they even said at comic con it's never going to happen, around Season 3 when Leonard and Penny started dating. And the beginning of Season 7 really emphazised how they would work if they were dating, they were together alone for 3 month's, and from what I saw they just had enough in common to talk about thing's, but they really woulden't be friend's at the end of the day without Leonard, he is the social nucleus that glue's their life together, the carbon atom if you well. Considering all this, and seeing Penny is a very sexual character, who up to Leonard has had very superficial, shallow relationship's with guy's where it was pretty much all about sex, and a physical pardaigm. And seeing Sheldon is Asexual, one has to wonder considering Penny has treated Sheldon as either a brother/kid dynamaic, why anyone shipped them as a couple in the first place. And for the comment who said L/P were mediocre, and it was forced, and poor Leonard. Well duh lol that was the point, Penny thought she was completley clueless when it came to being romantic, because she never received that from any other guy, and she was not the romantic person in those relationship's, so it was forced because that was the whole point. But to me Penny keeping all those thing's that represented key part's of their relationship as a couple and friend's, prooves that from the very beginning even if she diddn't realize it Leonard was the one for her, so she was being romantic this whole time without even realizing it. Sure it coulden't hurt for her to full the room with rose petals, and thorns, and have champaign e.t.c. But come on this is Penny she suck's at this kinda thing lol, she has always been a work in progress, but this ep was a huge step for her and their relationship, she has come a long way from the superficial, sweet, idealistic, girl from Season One that's for sure. What really stood out was end game for Lenny diddn't end with sex, this scene prooved they have a lot more in common then people give them and the writer's credit for. phantagrae
All those other instances were short and funny. This was long.... and it felt like they were doing a stage show ABOUT the show, within the show. If you know what I mean. I liked Bernadette in this scene but that was it. I think maybe the way the gang where standing there looked wrong, or something. I think part of the joke of the scene was that it did indeed go on to the second verse--maybe Howard seemingly overdoing it--but in the end it still works because of the true sentiment of the song. There was nothing false about it. To me,what I hate about shows that use songs in them is that they are often like bad songfics, or like in a fic where the writer has a character listening to a certain song because it just is SO PERFECT!!! a depiction of that character's feelings, etc. What I liked about this song is that it was original to the show and plausible as the kind of song that Howard would come up with. And the gang as pseudo backup singers was just the right touch of comedy and love, which has always been at the heart of this show. Earlier, the comparison was made to the Brady Bunch kids or Potsie on happy Days, but those examples do not compare. When the Brady kids started singing, it was a hokey sort of tie-in to try to make them popular singers. I'm pretty sure the show released an album. And the songs were obviously meant to be commercial products, they wore hokey costumes and danced, etc. Potsie had a similar kind of fakey set-up in that he and the guys started up a band and sang gigs at the diner, and Anson Williams sang popular 50s tunes, etc. But those were artificial constructs on those shows. This was completely different and very organic to the show and to the characters. And I'm pretty dang sure they're not going to be starting a CalTech glee club. It was just Howard's idea of expressing his love for his wife on the anniversary of their first date, nothing more.

baylee
I didn't mind Howard serenading Bernadette so much, as he's done it before, but I was so embarrassed by the others dancing and singing back-up that I had to bury my face in a pillow. BangerMain
I just don't see why the "horse faced" comment was even necessary. Your comment "Ah yes, a post from a Leonard/Amy bashing Romantic Shenny about this episode" contains the root of the answer. This episode was so damaging to the tenets of the Shenny belief system that the only thing that was left to them is their routine berating of the looks of Amy. The only thing missing was the rant on how Leonard is short, weaselly, devious and an emotional user and abuser of Penny. And of course, the lament on how The Powers That Be try to hide the truth and how the rest of us mindless drones are too stupid to see what is really going on. SodidIwin?
I personally loved the song and the gang as back-up was just the right touch for it to be cute and a little funny. As for the song being too long, well it had to be a full song so that they could sell it on iTunes with the proceeds going to MusiCares. Also, IMHO, the "horse faced" comment was totally out of line! I just loved this episode!

Lissie
This is the episode I am liking less in this season but I have to say: Amy´s dream cut my breath for a second! Simon did an excellent job with it, though. He is extremely underrated. I thought they will play their instruments (looked like a nice idea) but at the end they did...that. My question is: can Bernadette understand the song? or it is very much in "another language" for her??

djsurrey
Of course my favorite line in the song is We’re like changing electric and magnetic fields;you can’t have one, without the other Like a little nod to James Clark Maxwell (who was disparaged by Amy in a earlier episode). from http://scienceworld.wolfram.com/physics/MaxwellEquations.html Maxwell's Equations (note there are 4 equations but this system does not allow me to post all four here) (2) (4) In differential form these equations show that a changing electric field creates a magnetic field and a changing magnetic field creates an electric field These equations explain for the first time how electromagnetic waves can propagate in the vacuum of space. This may be a bit technical for some... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdoL8IOwJw0 Edited October 27, 2013 by djsurrey

tx-fictionqueen
I still shed a tear when I watch the clip from Howard's song...it's the way he chokes up at the end and how the gang sings "WE couldn't have imagined how good OUR lives would get..." And for those who believe it was too cheesy having the gang sing and hum in the background and that the writers must have "run out of ideas", people do stuff like this for friends pretty often in real life all the time. Like flash mob proposals and stuff. And Howard had asked for help from his friends from the very beginning of the episode, so I don't think it was any type of "well, we've done everything else, let's just throw this in there," hail Mary from the writers, but rather an intricately planned and beautifully executed way to show that every character is loved and appreciated. Can't get enough of this episode. Edited October 27, 2013 by tx-fictionqueen
