This is the episode I am liking less in this season but I have to say: Amy´s dream cut my breath for a second! (even inside myself I knew this only could be her imagination :)

I thought they will play their instruments (looked like a nice idea) but at the end they did...that.

My question is: can Bernadette understand the song? or it is very much in "another language" for her??

I don't think so, other than just a couple of sci-fi references that I think it's plausible she gets anyway just by living with Howard (i.e.: my bf doesn't watch Doctor Who but he knows what a Tardis is, who's the Doctor and even some companions names, because he lives with me and there is no way he would never hear about it), why wouldn't she understand? She's a Scientist as well.

Good points. She may likely have even heard the Klingon phrase many times before. I don't know if she would know what a CRT is but that is not essential to understanding the song.

But doesn't Bernadette say back in S3 that she would have liked to study physics if she hadn't gone into microbiology? She goes to Leonard's lab to look at his experiment and Howard gets jealous. I'd say that Bernadette would understand all the scientific references in the song and from living with Howard would get the sci-fi references too.

Hmmm...I see her very much out of Howard´s topics/likes....

that doesn't mean she wouldn't know what they are:

i.e: u don't need to be a nerd to know who Joss Whedon is, or know who Steve Jobs is and that Steve Wozniak was his partner in Apple, or that there is always a (dot) before the (com), etc. Nowadays those are pop-culture references.

And the Science references well... she IS a scientist.

I love the way Howard/Simon gets all choked up at the end.  Very sweet without being sappy. :)

I just loved Sheldon's arc in this episode, from being proud of his accomplishment to being ashamed of the accident/mistake that led to it, and not wanting to take credit he didn't deserve.  And I love that Amy was the one who truly understood and spoke plainly to him about it--and that he loved that she did so.  And that she made the cut for his tree fort. LOL!

Ditto for Simon's singing (and piano playing)  As far as Sheldon, yes, I did like his arc, but do you know what's the little part of a scene that I enjoyed the most? When he's singing back-up to Howard, not wanting to be there, with his arms sternly crossed in form of him, and an expression of "not wanting to be there" , but nevertheless he's singing and swaying in rythm with the rest of them . Don't know why my mind gravitates to such small details sometimes, but it does.

All true. I only mentioned the CRT since she is under 30 and CRT's are essentially obsolete for use in TV's and computers and these days a lot of oscilloscopes are digital and use LCD's too. Liking physics does not necessarily imply a lot of familiarity with electronics. Especially older electronics.

I'm 31 and I know what a CRT is, and used them up until 8 yrs ago. I know it seems like a lot more time, but LCDs were not the norm 15 yrs ago if you must. There is now way she wouldn't know what a CRT is if she at least had a computer on her adolescence even if she was under 30 yrs old. She has a PhD, there is no way she is younger than 25, 26 yrs old as well.

And even then, is not exclusive either. I never used  transistor radio, or a gramophone, but I know what it is.

This episode, I believe, was the most painful for a Shenny in the history of the series. I can understand why Shennys are in agony.

- Leonard  is the object of romance for Penny without sex being the end game..

- Amy "gets" Sheldon. She is the only one who does.

Nothing tears down the Shenny facade like those two canon acts

So then the Shenny's worst enemy is the show's cannon ? Or what we would call within the confines of the show "reality" ?  Nevermind (lol) Just answered my own question.

Brilliant! Does this mean we can all (you chaps included) STFU about it on neutral threads?

As the concept of “hypothetical” as it is, for example, used in the term “hypothetical ship” seems to be eluding some people, despite them possessing a ready access to online dictionaries, I’ll clarify the matter at hand using different terminology; Shenny isn’t real? Shenny isn’t happening on the show? Well, er…DUH!

(I think I used that word correctly)

On other, less irritating topics, how does everyone feel about a TBBT album?

Sheldon and Beverly could reprise their duet, Kripke “Don’t Go Bweaking my Heart”, Howard could of course do his Bernadette number, Leonard that…whatever he was doing in the car, before Sheldon nearly gave him a heart-attack.

I fancy Gablehauser doing a sort of “Minnie the Moocher” schtick. Stuart could sing “Mr Lonely” (complete with high-pitched wailing). Wil Wheaton could do “I’m an Asshole” by Denis Leary…

Anybody else? I’m thinking something sassy (maybe Aretha Franklin-ish?) for Amy, and something mildly terrifying for Bernadette, along the lines of “The Mariner’s Revenge” by the Decemberists…Perhaps something by Nine Inch Nails….Hhhm.

And before anyone pulls their literalist britches on, this is another hypothetical scenario. H-Y-P-O-T-H-E-T-I-C-A-L. Y'know..."Not real"

Don't do it I don't think the TBBT purist's heart can take a another form of variety type avenue :) As for shipping Sheldon and Penny, it's harmless the point is it's hypothectical, I think some people who do ship them look for evidence, alas their is none, love live the Plashenny though. As for the whole singing thing, it's not like TBBT hasen't done it before, in S4 Stuart, Zac, and I think Wheton were doing Sing Of Karaoke, that was funny but it's not the first time the show has went in that direction, so it's not like it's a surprise.

@Wally, just to clarify, both Carlos & BangerMain responses were referred at one angry Shenny upthread that was really pissed about the episode and referred to Amy as "horse-face Amy" and to the rest of the Shennys by extent who refer to name-calling and insulting other characters (namely Amy & Leonard),when the canon is not going their way, not the Shennys that are respectful and are aware that their ship is hypothetical, like you for example.

Just to clear things up and avoid misunderstandings.

I agree, most of the references are pop culture that anyone who is a nerd, or knows one, would recognise. The physics should be familiar to most PhD scientists as even micro-biologists have to do some rudimentary physics. I just wish Howard used more engineering rather than physics, some Laplace Transform time/frequency reference might have been a bit more appropriate than Maxwell's equations.

Maxwell's equations was just my inference when he mentioned changing electric and magnetic fields. But this is bread and butter stuff in electrical engineering. Transmission lines, waveguides, antenna's and wave propagation.... all topics in the three electromagnetics EE courses I took as an undergraduate for my B.Sc. in electrical engineering. I also had a mandatory EE course called functions of complex variables which made use of a text book called Mathematical Physics and included differential equations that when solved result in wave equations.

Also, they were looking for items which included things that were inseparable and time varying electromagnetic fields is perfect from that standpoint.

Count Wally, curiosity is killing me what does STFU stand for.

As for the album idea with the exception of Simon and Jim I don't think the rest of the cast has much singing talent :icon_lol:

Mayim singing starting on 0:55. I think she does pretty good.

That’s grand. And thank you for clarifying. But why could people not just say; “OI! <insert aggressive poster’s name> Don’t be such a huge Dickensian!” without dragging Shenny fanciers into it at all? I mean, I’ve encountered a fair few sub-psychotic and insulting individuals in the TBBT fandom over the past year (including one that appeared to be building some sort of web-based Temple of Hate, like that mad, fat bat in Hitchhikers Guide), most of which, in my particular case, happened to be Shamy and Lenny fans. Am I therefore to direct my ire at those random individuals by attacking the ship fans in general? Spouting off that ALL Lenny and Shamy fans are sociopathic/hysterical, just because there’s a few that are?

Does that woman speak FOR me? Or indeed, for anybody but herself? No. But I still have to put up with all the crap that’s flung at her in her absence. There’s only the “hypothetical” Shennies here on this forum at the moment, and for the past five months, a fact of which the good gentlemen Bangermain and Carlos should be aware. It’s a small enough forum for people to manage to keep abreast of each other’s affiliations. Do we "hypotheticals" have to constantly be struck in the sconce by the abuse launched at those "angry Shennies" who are busy legging it down a virtual alleyway?

I get it though. Tit for tat. An eye for an eye. Remember how the rest of that quote goes though…

And STFU stands for Shackle The Flying Unicorns.

As Sursonica said it wasn't directed at you and I apologize for the way I worded my comment. I should have been more accurate.
