The Cooper Extraction – While Sheldon is away in Texas, everyone gathers to decorate the apartment Christmas tree, and they each realize how much he has changed their lives, on THE BIG BANG THEORY, Thursday, Dec. 12 (8:00 – 8:31 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Laurie Metcalf returns as Mary Cooper, while Brian Thomas Smith reprises his role as Penny's ex, Zack.

I am glad to see that they have brought Sheldon's mother back, however, why is Zack in this one?  I thought that character was done.

I'm glad to see Mary's in this one--that's a surprise!  We didn't get a lot of info in spoilers on this one, so it's interesting to see that Mary and Zack will be back.

 

Also, according to the press release, Stuart and Mrs. Wolowitz also figure in the episode.

they usually show it directly following the episode unless there won't be a new episode the next week. but there IS a new episode next week, so i'm puzzled.

About Zach, if Leonard had never moved in with Sheldon he would not have met Penny.

 

So if they are going to do the kind of thing were when they each think about the ramifications of a life without Sheldon in it, either Penny or Leonard could imagine Penny with Zach instead of Leonard.

 

So Zach would not be part of the group decorating the tree and reminiscing, but rather part of someone's imagined possible alternative scenario.

 

IMO. it sort of sounds like it's little "It's a Wonderful Life(ish)"

Okay I already posted this to L/P thread, but it better belongs in here.

 

Here's my theory:

 

It's announced that we'll see Zack in this episode. So I think Penny imagines that she's still dating this kind of guys. No Sheldon -> no Leonard -> nobody destroying her ability to tolerate idiots.

I think Stuart is the one who imagines dating Penny "full swagged". Literally, Stuart would have had better chances without Sheldon disturbing their date. So without Sheldon, he would probably be dating Penny. I can't think of one reason for Penny to think about dating a "full swagged" Stuart. Stuart was obviously just a replacement for Leonard and she was never really into him.

Amy would live the same way she did before Sheldon. Lonely and numb. Nothing with Zack, Leonard or anyone because they would never meet each other.

Leonard could be imaginating, that he's in prison. Or dating another girl, but I doubt it. I'm very curious what his dream will be about.

Raj/Howard probably knew each other before Sheldon, so Raj has no ability to talk to women and Howard is the same disgusting guy like he was before meeting Bernadette. I read something about fat-suits... makes no sense at all.

Bernadette... maybe seeing someone else, I don't know.

 

Why are you guys surprised to see Mary Cooper in this episode? If Sheldon is in Texas, it's not THAT unlikely that we will see Mary Cooper at Mary Cooper's house *rolleyes*. And Zack probably appears in one of the daydreams. I can't see him sitting around with the guys, after all what happened lol :D

And because none of the random people who passed on taping info mentioned Mary Cooper being a part of the story.  Although, that's not unusual, if she was in a Skype session, maybe at the beginning of the episode, or maybe whoever saw the ending maybe didn't even realize who she was, etc.

 

We hadn't had any kind of hint or info that she would be in the episode, so, yeah, it's surprising to see her.  But a pleasant surprise.
