Alright lads and laddesses, before the sound of eye-rolling becomes deafening, we have the excellent Tripper’s blessing to announce this, so don’t go querulously thumbing through the rule-book.

 

We have laboured long and hard, and perhaps somewhat insanely, to create a celebratory, and mildly psychedelic and twitch-inducing website in honour of Sheldon and Penny.  

 

This means the characters individually, and all permutations of their friendship, both Canon and Hypothetical. Thus the Platonic, Philosophical, and Romantic Shenny. If the latter is not your cup of bovril, then merely ignore these sections, they are clearly marked. Wandering around the site, you’re not going to accidentally stumble upon a vaseline-lensed manip of S and P doing “the dance with no pants”, as we think manips are idiotic, so you’re safe.

 

The site itself is a thing of high beauty, if I do say myself. As I didn’t design the damn thing, only wrote some wordy bits, I can get away with spruiking the LOOK of it without blowing my own trumpet.

 

Please do go and have a gander or butchers at it. We meant it to be entertaining. Obviously there is a heavy bias in favour of describing Sheldon and Penny scenes, and a distinct absence of any other characters, so if you don’t “dig” either of them, then perhaps give it a miss.

Later we shall be including sections on various minor or guest characters, such as Wil Wheaton, Mary Cooper, and the Existential Angst of Stuart Bloom, but for now we are focusing on our two favourites, Mantis-Boy and the Blond Monkey.

 

There is also a forum section for generally cranky bastards to congregate and amuse themselves. As it was created expressly for Nostalgics, Sheldon Purists and Shennys of all variations, and is entirely populated by them, if these sort of characters generally irritate or antagonise you, then again, perhaps give that section a miss. We will not be held responsible for the opinions expressed in these areas. Except for our own opinions of course. Obviously. 

 

The Forum is essentially irrelevant to the site, but as we’ve received some queries on the matter, we’ll explain a few things;

 

We’ve set it to Private Membership because there’s a certain portion of the Internet that likes to wander in to such places, say “bum”, then wander out again. As we don’t have a sophisticated 3-post-approval moderation system, a brief enquiry letter, or recommendation from another human that you’re not a mouth-breathing troglodyte, is about the best we can come up with.

 

Which brings me to a quandary we have. Some very pleasant and charming “Canon Shippers” have recently asked to join the HQ forum. In theory we are not adverse to this in the slightest. The more the merrier. Or not. Because in practise, however, we fail to see how this cannot but end in the sort of disagreement and unpleasantness that occasionally flairs up on this very forum, which would nullify the purpose of creating it. We don’t want war, we want to discuss the show, but in our own fashion.

 

Nostalgics, Sheldonites and Shennys are all unhappy with the current direction of the show, and though their reasons are varied, they largely centre around unhappiness with the canon relationships, and a perceived destruction of their favourite characters because of them. A canon fan would doubtless disagree, and would feel about as comfortable on an Anti-Forum as a Nostalgic or Romantic Shenny feels on regular ones. So AT THE PRESENT TIME we don’t feel it advisable to sign up unless you classify yourself amongst the following categories;

 

Nostalgics (fans of Seasons 1-4), Sheldonites/Sheldon Purists (fans of Vintage Sheldon and/or desirous that he remain romantically unattached), Romantic Shennys (advocates of a romantic relationship between S/P, either within Canon, or within a hypothetical parallel universe), Peldons/Platonic Shennys (values the comedic friendship of Sheldon and Penny OVER any other relationship on the show) Shelnards and Alternative Shippers of all varieties.

 

This is not elitism, but in fact a collection of exiles from other forums. We welcome all who are not welcome elsewhere. Unless you’re not welcome elsewhere because you’re a pain in the proverbials.

 

If you are some sort of bastardised hybrid of several categories, like most humans are, or exist in a unique category of your own, then we’ll leave it up to your judgement. 

 

For everybody else, of course, there is Tripper's wonderful creation, right here.

 

Again, the forum part is irrelevant to the website. So all this rabbiting on I've been doing about Nostalgics and Koothranardowitzes is also irrelevant to the website, which we HOPE everyone will find amusing. Here and there anyway. Or just there, even.

 

The Sheldon-Centric Episode Pages are a good place to start. They're wonderfully designed and largely Shenny-free, if the concept makes you twitch. They're also marvellously well-written (cough) by a couple of this forum's regulars (COUGH).

 

Lastly, if you are violently antagonistic to any and all variations of S/P, rationality would suggest you don't look at the site, and civility would suggest you don't comment if you do. There's no point being a massive Dickensian about people being passionate about the same damn thing you're passionate about, just from a different perspective. It also makes you look like a tit.

I don't think I fit into any category in order to become a member but I have to - literally HAVE TO - congratulate whole heartedly whoever designed that impressive website!!!! I wandered around a little and I can say it is clever and pretty and really really beautiful!!! It has a comic book quality that I find quite appropriate for Sheldon!!! And ''The geniuses and their friend Howard'' that was a LOL!!!!!! Or should it be their treasured acquaintance??? I haven't searched everything but I trust there is a Sheaton thread.. I expect nothing less..

I think Rose meant well with that comment not trying to degrade the ship but who am I to make assumptions, right??

 

I am sad because it means that there are some people that actually feel like this and that is never good. I understand that some people shouldn't probably mix together (regardless of their ship really ) but that doesn't mean that people should feel superior or inferior because their ship is canon, non-canon or considered boring, weird or whatever. It's not that I don't like the idea of the website - as Wally said the more the merrier - I just hate it that one of the reasons for creating it(even if the less important) was that people felt like outcasts. Once on the shamy thread someone asked why people write shenny fanfiction. I said my opinion and clearly stated I was no expert cause I don't read shenny fanfiction but then a discussion started. Koops intervened and said that she hates it when people trash the shamy on other shipping threads cause a shipping thread is supposed to point out the greatness of the ship not degrade other ships so people should stop talking ill about the shenny on a shamy thread. I already respected her and her views but from then on even more!! I have experienced that and it is awful cause you cannot really respond and it is unfair and I personaly ended up disappointed and thinking why bother. What I am trying to say is that one way or another we all experienced something like that and maybe the things that link us like a show we all enjoy and our eagerness to talk about it and share our views and get to know new people(some of them real talents) are greater than the ships that separate us. Basically we kinda saying the same thing tx I'm just bringing everybody down with this rumbling.

 

So, I'll stop here (or at least I'll try sometimes I am unstoppable and you should thank your lucky stars English is not my first language othewise I would talk a lot) and I'll wish you the best with the website Wally!!!!!   Don't be a stranger I appreciate your sense of humor(even though I am pretty sure what you mean is always more sophisticated than I am able to understand ).

I think you're justified in your private members forum, and not being elitist at all, it's just sad that it's necessary. I have often wondered about the codependency of private members clubs and those that are persecuted, and would present Soho's Blacks and Groucho Club, both being in spitting distance of Warner Bros De Lane Lea recording studio, as examples. Everyone needs a place to kick back and relax without being harassed, enjoy yours.

First, ta very much for all your kind comments chaps. I’m glad the site design seems to amuse people. “Comic book” was what we were going for. It’s also meant to be like getting smacked in the face by a ruptured pinata.

 

Again, all praise goes to the designer and originator. I’m just a rampant Sheldonite who has been given full-reign, along with another cranky (but splendid) writer, to vent about various pet peeves in the form of articles and episode summaries. I’m also apparently the public spokesman on Tripper’s forum. Do you realise that I’m the person who always gets killed in the movies? I’m a goddamn Red Shirt…

 

Secondly, please let’s stop fixating on the HQ forum part, dear fellows. It’s really quite incidental.  

 

Yes the cocoon comment threw me a little as well. I greatly approve of Redrose (hello!) and generally, following a compliment with an insult is mildly like saying “Here, please have a biscuit….YOU FAT BASTARD!” But indeed, I agree, it might not have been an insult…

 

As for exiles, well yes. A fairly good illustration of this is the fact that I’ve received a couple of lovely PM’s about the site from people who do not feel free to visibly post their approval, presumably on account of forum politics. And that’s fairly depressing and indicative of the state of TBBT fandom.

 

@Cecilia – yes I remember Koops saying that about not carping about other ships, and I agreed wholeheartedly. Koops is very honourable.

Our door policy was meant to bounce MILITANT and self-righteous fans, not Realist, reasonable, charming, witty ones. Unfortunately, in order to have a policy AT ALL, which we do need to protect an oft-persecuted subset of the fandom, we can’t, alas, pick and choose, and let in our pals, just because…er…they’re our pals. What sort of shonky policy would THAT be! But don’t fret, Thing, I’ll be back here to annoy you from time to time.  

 

In a nutshell, the door policy is based on; If there’s another forum you can freely post on, then this forum is NOT FOR YOU. We intend to keep the membership small, so we all get to know each other (I personally intend to invent some fantastic lies about myself. Perhaps I’m James Bond. NO ONE WILL KNOW IF I’M NOT).

 

Nostalgics don’t want to be told constantly to bugger off, and Romantic Shennys don’t want to be called delusional. These are the two main groups we wish to provide a forum for, and they co-exist quite happily, despite Nostalgics generally being Anti-ship on the whole.

 

Sheldon “Purists” like myself are simply delighted to be able to talk about Sheldon’s various alterations without being compared to Gollum caressing “his precious” (although that was rather amusing)

 

I'll certainly still be posting here, but on rather innocuous topics. Something that I've found in common during my chats with my Lenny and Shamy pals here, as well as with my Nostalgic and Shenny ones, is that we're all highly aggravated by the wars that start up, to the point where it taints the show itself. It's not the show which upsets people, it's the fans. And isn't that terrible?

 

An idle note about kvetching in general. People who aren’t happy with, say, the current government, carp and complain about it, they riot and rally and spread dissent. People who ARE happy with it, just go about their lives. The Shamy and Lenny, are in essence, the current (and presumably permanent) government. That is what is “happening”, so that is what people talk about. You can’t really talk about a hypothetical concept like Romantic Shenny, beyond saying you like/dislike it.

 

As AThingOfBeauty said, it’s like Schrodinger's cat. You won’t know if the sucker’s dead or alive until you open the box. (Unless you’re Penny's brother dealing with his camp trunk...) The Shenny box has never been opened, so no definitive comments can ever justifiably be made about it. It remains in limbo. The Shamy and Lenny boxes HAVE been opened, ergo they’re free game. We can all discuss whether the cat is alive or dead, or in Tahiti, or badly taxidermed...etc 

 

As for Platonic Shenny, or Peldon. We’ll talk about it when it happens. We don’t get as much of it as in early seasons. Although apparently there's some yoga next week..I don't really know what to think about that...

I will point out that my PM was due to a thought I had and was going to pass along, wrote the PM, but then decided the the thought I had, wasn't going to work for the site, so I just sent the complimentary PM. The site is well put together, the writers did very well with the content (I know, I'm passing along a compliment, how sad is that?), has a few places that gets on the good side of my twisted nature. I like the plans for future expansion and now that I find you'll still be posting here, I like it even better. As for my joining, we've discussed my feelings before. I do hope the site is successful for you and the other people running it and accomplishes what you want it to.

I'll pop up and say others here should visit, as it is a bit of fun.

@Wally at the bottom right side of the forum there is an option about language(no Pirate though :-p ) but it has to do with navigation things. Like "new posts on that thread" or "that thread is locked". I just imagine that if one can read the posts they could navigate through the forum without difficulty. But ad I said it was cool.. :-)

Speaking as Wally on behalf of Wally, it seems a pity and rather strange to me that the forum section is getting all the attention over here when it was the Website that was the point. Sigh.

Cheers for having a look though! Perhaps you and others can pop in from time to time, just to look at the new pages, and ignore the forum bit.

The Design Genius and general ‘Wizard behind the curtain’ will be along shortly to clarify the issue.

Thank you, Wisp! (Your check is in the mail.) Seriously, though, I think grumpiness is a better word, and it's largely confined to the current season forum. Surely it can come as no surprise that the Shennys and the Sheldonites are not always pleased with certain developments within the show?

But as Wisp has generously pointed out there are wayyyy more threads that celebrate (not denigrate). There's a lovely Shelnard thread and one I rashly started in an effort to celebrate the many manifestations of that colorful peacock, Mr. Wolowitz. I say "rashly" because google ain't wanting to cough up some of the more splendiferous examples of his brightly hued ensembles. What up with that?

ETA: The forum is not the real headline here. That honor goes to the main site, with its episode summaries and visual opulence, that we think fans of ALL stripes can enjoy and chuckle along with us.

Thanks for your kind words about the site. I hope some of you will return to check out the new stuff as we add it over the year.

Also thanks to Tripper for allowing us to post. As The Count has told you the site is for everyone but the forum is for a minority group only (Shennys, Nostalgics). Tripper has a great forum which suits the needs of 95% of its members. We are appealing to the small number who perhaps don't feel they can voice their opinion here. No one wants to trample on anyones picnic and there's little point in creating yet anyone BBT forum for an identical set of fans. There's already 3 and I think fanforum has the same people as here. So HQ will be a small alternative group at this stage. It's also easier to manage right now.

It may be a Shenny site but aside from a few flirty gifs, it's not that romantic. So we feel we can coexist with fans who come from a non-romantic stand point, those who prefer Sheldon single or those who like the earlier works better. If you are one of those members who rarely posts because you feel your opinion would be unwelcome, you may find our forums suit you.
