Emmy's 2014

I personally don't understand how they can switch.  That there aren't guidelines...but with so many dramedies...I guess the lines are blurred in a way.

I mean you could add an additional category set of "dramedies" but that would allow for almost anything in a way.  Plus, the already 3+ show would go on FOREVER!!!

But hey, they did add reality awards to the show recently so who knows....I do think with such a VAST array of programming now, the structure will probably be altared in the next 5 years or so.

Either way, it makes me nervous for the old school traditional sitcom.....I would love BBT to pull it out this year.  I still don't know.  But the sitcom genre (the basis for the comedy category) is so legendary...its a shame if the "best comedy" goes to a show like OITNB....

Hey, I even get upset when SNL cast members get nominations in regular acting categories...SNL is a variety show...Plain & simple....but thats JMO

There has been a lot of controversy over this and everyone is recognizing that the guidelines were designed when there were only three networks and how the life of television has evolved, but the guidelines have not.   I suspect that by 2015, a lot of new rules will be established because there are a lot of upset folks within and outside of the industry.

"The Big Bang Theory" also gets strong odds to earn four acting bids, for last year's winners Jim Parsons (Comedy Actor) and Bob Newhart(Comedy Guest Actor), as well as Mayim Bialik (Comedy Supporting Actress), and James Earl Jones (Comedy Guest Actor). The top-rated CBS sitcom will also be back for Best Comedy. Of those, however, it's only expected to win one – for Parsons, who would tie the record for the most wins in his category.

It has to come down to politics, It just has too. I know the industry tends to go for more groundbreaking, and trendy shows. And considering their are  a lot of conservative voters on the Emmy Panel, an old fashioned, multi camera sitcom like TBBT just does not stand out, it is just reliable but apparently not good enough to win an Emmy, even though it is arguably the most critically and commercially acclaimed comedy series on network tv. That's the thing most shows are commercially acclaimed but not critically, and vice versa, BBT seems to both. It also seems the trend other then MF, is cable comedies like Louie e.t.c. Are getting a lot more recognition. The whole criteria is a joke, it is like the Grammy's they made a distinction between best pop vocal, between male's and females. But it just does not work as their are a lot more female pop vocalists then male pop vocalists. It seem's they are lacking a distinction between what is "Pure" comedy and a "Dramedy". Ask anyone OITNB great show, but is not a "Comedy", a Dark Comedy at best, and is way more dramatic then comedic. And I can't say it is all a popularity contest, as if that was the case BBT would easily win haha. I guess though if you look at the last traditional, multi camera sitcom to win, that was Friends back in 2002, 12 years ago. So it's not like BBT is the only multi camera sitcom to lack recognition, I mean Two and a half men and How I met your mother don't get anywhere too as they are not groundbreaking or trendy enough. It is funny though considering the agenda in TBBT, their is not a lot or if any comedies, like TBBT. I mean most comedy series have one geek, TBBT is a show about all geeks. Maybe it is a David Vs Goliaf thing, TBBT started out as the David's fighting the Goliafs of the industry, and now it has almost became Goliaf, and their is a sense of resentment within the industry. In a perfect world TBBT would be odds on favourite, but it is not a perfect world far from it, wouldent be surprised if MF wins again tbh.

Like the memo they should have gotten when all the romantic Shennys were pushing? It's an ensemble show. The writers write for the show, not a fandom or a particular ship. The nominations could be used as evidence that the writers are giving the good stuff to Mayim and Jim, and giving the others the leftover crap (see Cybill) Get the memo indeed.

I think we all would agree that yes it's a true ensemble and we'd all love to see the show win. That by far would make me so happy!! Anything to knock Modern Family off the podium after an extremely disappointing season (and I used to really enjoy the show) and also to ensure that a none-comedy OITNB doesn't win.

Season 7 was an extremely strong season for BBT and I so want they to win for the series!!!

The commentator guy they had on GMA this morning implied that Modern Family had a good chance to win best comedy because, as he put it, they had a really strong season, with the Mitch/Cam wedding, etc.

I dunno.  I really want BBT to win best comedy, but I'll take MF as long as OITNB doesn't win 'cause that ain't no comedy.

If one were to go by the apparent criteria that a show like OITNB seems to be using--some comedy in a predominantly dramatic series--then The X-Files could have submitted in the comedy category because they did some comedic episodes and there was always a kind of dark humor in many episodes.

I really hope there's something of an Emmy backlash against OITNB and that they get pushed back into the drama category where they belong.

Has Simon been nominated before? He is so good. I understand why Mayim is nominated, and it would be nice for her. What do the bookies have her at?

I think Mayim and Johnny are the only other cast members to have been nominated.  I think Kaley has been nominated for other awards, but not for an Emmy, has she?

I don't know what the oddsmakers say, but I don't know that Mayim has a very good chance.  It's a pretty strong field.

So 7 nominatons for Big Bang Theory. In the Oustanding Comedy Category, Best Lead Actor for Jim, Mayim for best Supporting Actress in a comedy series. Outstanding Technicle Direction, Camera Work, Video Control for a Series. And Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series, Best Guest Actor for Bob Newhart, and Normal Heart. Pretty standard for Big Bang Theory, it probably won't win Oustanding Comedy although it is the most deserving comedy series ever imo, I guess Friends eventually wan after 8 seasons. I am going to say this though Simon and Kaley deserve way more from the industry, I don't know what it is politics, or their is an agenda going on. Or it is all about image, Kaley plays the pretty blonde girl next door, and is not getting the required material to really show her mettle as a comedic actress, but she showed a lot this year, I Thought in some eps she was brilliant. I always thought since that scene with Jim in Adhesive Duck her comedic timing is simply the best, no one comes near her in terms of that. Then I look at the lead actress category, then glance at the comedy series category. Now tell me what does Veep, OITNB, Silicon Valley have in common with BBT?? I mean I suspose tehcniquley they are comedies. But they are not "pure" comedies, like Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, and even Louie. I don't know it just doesn't make any sense to me, they really need to rehash the entire criteria. Glad Mayim got a nomination she should win I feel. Not really holding any hope for BBT winning the comedy series category again this year, the industry and emmy voters tend to have a lot of conservative voters on their panel, and tend to go for more ground breaking and "trendy" shows, shows of the "moment", not shows of substance like Big Bang Theory. Big Bang Theory to the industry is just an old fashioned multi camera sitcom which is reliable, but apparently not good enough to win an Emmy. I mean with Kaley she reminds me of Courtney Cox from Friend's, she never got nominated I guess because she made it look seemless and easy, like she wasen't actually "acting". I feel the same is happening for Kaley, she is young, and she does have a few technical faults in her acting, but considering the amount of conservative voters on the Emmy Panel, they just seemed more appealed by the older actors like Julia from Veep, she has been their done that, they don't have the cahonies to be liberal for once, okay rant over :icon_cheesygrin:

Well Jim and Simon would have been in different categories, but yes, it would be wonderful to see Simon nominated.  He very much deserves a nod.

Oh ok ..... I don't pay much attention to how all that stuff works..... lol.... thx for clarifying

I am not sure but I think Simon was submitted for best supporting actor, unfortunately looks like that is dominated by Modern Family. TBH Big Bang Theory not dominating Emmy nominations, is not a reflection of the show but a reflection of the current trends, and also a reflection in the current politics. The industry tend to have an agenda, portraying shows to the media, partic mainstream. Same with Kaley think she was submitted in Lead Actress, she clearly never stood a chance, even though she is terribly underrated, I do too think Johnny deserved one too, but it make's sense Jim is prob the favourite.
