Dayton Lavon Kitchens Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 While this season has had some "sweet" episodes like the most recent one with James Earl Jones and he earlier Thanksgiving episode, this season so far has lacked any classic laugh out loud episodes like "The Bakersfield Expedition", "The Parking Lot Escalation" or "The Tenure Turbulence". Episodes that are amusing again and again So is this season the worst ever? If not, why not?
Tensor Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 No, it's not the worst ever. But that's subjective. I thought The Scavenger Vortex to be a laugh out loud episode. The Cooper Extraction was funny and sweet and Bakersfield was an eh, episode, except for when he girls started arguing. I've seen some argue that this season is closer to the first three seasons and they like it. I happen to think the first season was the worst, only because the characters are all over the place as the writers tried to find what worked for each of the characters. So, it's all going to depend on what a particular person likes.

I think this season had some great moments, wether you ship a certain couple or just enjoy the show as a whole (or both obviously), just like all seasons had. I think this season had some great moments, wether you ship a certain couple or just enjoy the show as a whole (or both obviously), just like all seasons had.I've made it clear in other posts that I really like them all, and there is a worst for me only because it's silly to say they are all equal. And, for me, it was what I felt was some things that hadn't been settled in the first season (the best example was Sheldon flirting with Penny in the pilot. They worked through those and it's, in my opinion, think the series has gotten stronger and while I think there has been some inconsistencies this year, it's still a strong year. sECUREij Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Nope this season isn't the best (s3) but it isn't Horrible, season 6 was by FAR the worst season I didn't even laugh out Loud until a disk and a half into my DVDs
Luckyboy Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Selecting which season is the worst is subjective. People have different likes and dislikes, but for topics sake, I think season 6 is by far the worst season. Too many episodes with too many plots, meaning many episodes in season 6 felt rushed. too many story plots squeezed into 30mins including commercial breaks making the episode feel like it was only 5mins long. Plus with the parking lot episode, it was very shocking that sheldon took off his clothes in Howards car and wearing the iron man helmet. Considering that sheldon is a germophobe, and many times he has indicated that he is against change. its very uncharacteristic of him to do that. Even to consider that people change, or gradually change it will take time for him to do something of that caliber in relation to hygene. For season 7, I do miss how they were back in seasons 1-3. but now its like they are starting to mature slowly. and it shows that people who live their lives around comic books can also face the same dilemma that other people face. On another note, I'm debating whether this is the best season but there are a lot of seasons out there to consider but it is one of my top seasons. 3ku11 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Nope imo its the best season, while its very different to 1-3, less geeky and more bolder, refined, and a tighter ensemble. Differents gd after s4 the shows premise was starting to change, nd the guys wre becoming more socially aware, so thd pppl who either dont watch or still watch, but still complain about the show lol, simply outgrew the show. The show has such a diverse audience now, nearly 20 mill a week, with only 22 mins a wk thy cannot possibly cater to everyones personals tastes, where if its a desire too see more light hearted nerdy humor, or more progression in the romantic relationships. But I think they're doing a good job, the ppl who say the shows nt gd after three seasons nd to realize its not a show about four eggheads nd the hottie girl anymore its transformed way beyond that now. But just because its different does not make it bad.
ajond Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) Not the worst perhaps, but on the podium at 2 or 3. others on the podium would be 4 and 5. (for the worst 3 seasons) Edited February 6, 2014 by ajond
thephantom Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 This is not the best season (s6) but its definitely not the worst either. So far most episodes are good. Its on the podium of seasons 2 and 5. The worst is definitely season
Geniocrat Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Yeah it has been lacking.... I think.... ...but then I am the guy who started the Season 8 ideas topic so help out so I am biased !!!!
Shamyyes Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I think we will have to wait to see this season in its entirety before we can actually judge it. Almost half a season to go. To me it's all good.
[email protected] Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Let me preface this by saying that I would sooner watch a bad season (or episode) of tBBT over just about any other show currently in production. The worst season (imho) was the 5th. I actually stopped watching for a period during this season & have only caught up with it in syndication. By comparison, the 7th season has shaped up to be a very good season, not the best season, but very good. "The Raiders Minimization," Amy finds a flaw in the guy's favorite film. Now the writers could have taken a low road & gone for some cheap laughs wherein Sheldon seeks revenge & it ends there. No. To their credit, one of the redeeming qualities about Amy (aside from the fact that she is hilarious) are her attempts to humanize & socialize Sheldon, which is what she does by the end of the episode. The 2nd storyline in this same episode was a great way of using the characters interplay within the group to bring a storyline full circle, which terminates in the welcomed return of Christine Baranski. Other examples of what make this season very good: 1. Howard & Amy bonding over Neil Diamond in "the Scavenger Vortex." 2. Full-on-Sheldon & red, itchy Leonard in "the Itchy Brain Simulation." Again, a great storyline that twists & turns while staying true to the characters motivations & personalities. 3. "The Occupation Recalibration" Paraphrased, Penny: "Do you think I made a mistake quitting my job?" Sheldon, after requesting she bring him a lemonade, which she forgets to do, "do you see me drinking a lemonade?" This episode is yet another example of how fluidly the writers manage to write storylines coupling characters who might not conceivably co-mingle (Bernadette & Stuart). Examples of what kept this season from being great: 1. Raj & Stuart's attempts to meet women, aside from discovering that Stuart has one unusually long testicle, which, of course he does. 2. Sheldon's attempt to learn how to be funny, which wasn't. 3. Sheldon being rude & selfish. There's rude & selfish then there's rude, selfish, & hilarious. And this alone is probably the feature that most sways an episode (for me) between good & great.
Kelly Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Quite honestly I think this season is just fine. I still am in a laugh riot over many things about it as I am with nearly every season thus far. I completely agree with [email protected]'s thoughts (post #13) on the good things about season 7. I think that they are adding more depth to the season as opposed to it just being full of laughing and jokes, which after seven seasons dare I say is necessary to continue the storyline along as well as the good ol' fun times. I'm really glad to see characters mingle with one another who normally don't communicate much one-on-one in the show, such as 'The Scavenger Vortex' episode with Howard and Amy bonding over having similar interest in music. The reason in which this brings a grin to my face is the fact that we clasically see Penny and Leonard together, Howard and Bernadette, Raj and Stuart, and of course Amy and Sheldon, but you really do not see them mingle outside of listings above. Yet another fantastic example of just how much the show has grown over the years would be reflecting upon the interview in which Jim Parsons had quite awhile ago admitting that he could not see himself (Sheldon in the show) and Amy Farrah Fowler kissing outside of something like a dream sequence. All in all, I sincerely feel that The Big Bang Theory is doing just fine, if not grand. Majority of the comedies on lately have been real crummy (my humble opinion), but The Big Bang Theory can still make me laugh and feel uplifted. Oldnavy Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 No, I do not think that it is the worst though I agree with Tensor that it is a matter of personal opinion. There have been some good episodes this season but there have also been some episodes that I thought were pretty bad, like the one with Leonard and the red sweeter. This season is not one of my favorites. Season six is still my favorite and season four is my least favorite.
jayd Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) Let me preface this by saying that I would sooner watch a bad season (or episode) of tBBT over just about any other show currently in production. I feel much the same way. That being said, Season 2, for me, continues to maintain it's place as the best. If I were to compile an exhaustive list of favorite episodes, there would be more from Season 2 than any other season. She Paddington Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 so far i feel that yes, in my opinion it does seem to be the worst season. so far. and it doesn't mean a bad season, just not as good as the previous ones.

bigjoe Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 I think season 7 has some excellent episodes and some really bad ones. the worst one for me is the itchy sweater one, you have to be a idiot to believe that anyone would wear an itchy sweater and not take it off, Lenard would have to be that idiot and hes not. the best is the one where pennys part was cut from nciss, it showed the human side of the characters and how much Lenard really loves penny. the last epicode about the train was funny and human also. the people and the show are maturing as it should, and to make this season the best, the writers should understand this and follow this premis. there is always laughter and funny situations, but lets follow the story lines better and make the show both funny and human. 3ku11 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 For the record bbt has always been relationship driven in some way, tbh bbt aint much different from seasone one, the dialogur is different more romance, the science is less subtle now. But what were we expecting it was inevitable, do we really want to see a wannabe, nuerotic, deadpan robot forever? Im loving Sheldon a lot more then i did in 1-3, seeing more humanity and his awareness of people and the relationship construct. Look at gis spot, before Leonard it was designated so he could immerse himself in entertainment, but them Leonard moved in and he caused a change in Sheldon, his seating pattern changed to so he could socially interact with people. I dont see this as a negative thing or Sheldon conforming to socities conventions, but when i said it was inevitable their were signz even in S3 that Sheldon was changing, and was starting to become interested in relationships. Ala that date in S3, i think Sheldon has always had those impulses, but theirs a fight between going back to antagonistic, robotic Sheldon and being aware and having the relationship construct in his lifes. So ppl complaining about a romantic centric show, consider this seeing a robotic sheldin with no emotions or people in his life just science, while was funny but after a while it gets old. Because as unique and awesome as that was, sitcoms are all about growth, and altho bbt cannot be emulated in any other show, even in tv land life moves on. And that is exactly what has happened in bbt post season four, its premise has evolved. Sheldon, Penny, Howard, Raj etc Have all made subtle cchanges to their self actulizatipn and their lifes, the show is slowlh maturing. The truth is is after so many yrars you cannot have the same impact you use too. I mean this show got critized early on for perpetuating the stereotype nerds cant get chicks, now presently fans, media etc. Are critisizing the show for dumbing down to themasses. The audience is nearly 20 mill a week, things are different now, they write for all types of ppl now. On one hand u have the ppl on one side of the audience, who want mote geeky, light hearted humour. And the othrr side want more progression in the relationships. They cannot possibly catee to everyones personal tastes 22 mins a week. I find the ppl who complain about the current state of the show, simply outgrew the show, where the show is realistic, thede characters particularly the guys are growing up and moving pn, so of course Careers and Relationships are more relevant then comic books, its just inevitable. Personally i think as an ensemble the shows nevdr been stronger, i do think tho lack of continuity is the problem, with 22 mins to write, and consideeimg its audience, and noe seven characters to write for, comedy is no lpnger the main pirpose, top many subploys imo. I think too lack of continuty so far, episodes flowed much better prob in 4 and 5. I think too the whole living arrangements, and lenny engagement is getting in the way of continuigy, S8 should go bk to basics. S7 aint worst, none of them are. The actress was charming. It's just that I don't know, the character itself is kinda selfish so I might have been annoyed by that.
