I really think Amy needs a make-over. Mayim Bialik is such a pretty girl, but they make her look SO bad on the show, like they're playing up every fault they can find. I think she wears padding too, because Mayim doesn't look that big. I would love to see her with a little makeup and pretty hair, it wouldn't ruin her. Remember when she dressed up like Dr from Star Trek? She was ADORABLE!

What do yall think?

Edit - I think I need to clarify my opinion here. I, personally, think she could do with some better fitting clothes, and maybe a little body in her hair, NOT like Penny and Bernie. I don't want her to be all made up all the time and totally concerned with her looks, I just think they could do a lot better. They don't have make her look so frumpy just because she's smart. She IS female after all, and Penny and Bernadette would have, in a normal girlfriend relationships, been a little bit more of an influence on her by now.

I don't mind if she/they dress her up if she's going out like in 7x01 .

But I like Amy's style, even if it's terrible according "fashion standards".

And she sticks with it, no matter what others think.

I know Mayim is a gorgeous woman, everyone who knows me a little can confirm that ;)

I think Mayim is a beautiful woman too!! But I wouldn't want to see a make-over mainly because Amy doesn't seem to want one. When they dressed like Disney Princeses she was gorgeous but she didn't keep up with that look. And when Penny taught her how to apply make up. I mean she was a man eater ;) Of course you could always say that this is not Amy but the writers/people who dress her etc. But the think is I really wouldn't want for Amy to start caring about her looks(although she is really confident about it). I consider it a part of her quirkiness and I love it!!! Having said that there are some outfits clearly better than others. As Chiany said 7x01 was a pretty good choice. I liked her on Vday too.

On a second note I believe Sheldon likes her just the way she is so I cannot see Amy dressing differently and care about her hair and make up(in a more regular basis) and Sheldon be ok with it. I mean Sheldon doesn't really care about her appearance he is not the type of man who looks at that in a woman. But anyway I believe that he does like her appearance already cause she is a cute little lamp of wool!!!!!

Mayim is gorgeous but I don't mind if Amy isn't. The quality Amy and Mayim share in accordance to their appearance is that they both are charming!!!!!!! :)

I wonder how long it will take for this topic to spiral into a bloodbath. :p

Mayim is definitely a stunning woman, and it's incredible what lengths they go to to conceal it. Honestly though, I would be content if they just gave her some proper fitting clothes to wear on set.

No, no makeover needed. She wouldn't be Amy if she started care too much of her look.

But I wouldn't mind if they in a slow process let her shrink just a little bit, taking off one layer at a time. Mayim has such a lovely figure. And it wouldn't be odd if Amy got a little smaller, since she after all is a women and just as hair grows the body is constantly changing.

I loved how she looked in the valentines episode, so happy that they didn't feel the need to put on extra clothes and acually left her cardigan open. I was also very happy to see that they put up her hair when she was in the lab! Small stuff like that proves that they trust people to know who she is by now and that there is no need to always keep her within the same frame when it comes to her look, its okey to go outside the box, she's human and putting up her hair when she's in a lab feels very natural and realistic.

When it comes to the colours of Amy's clothing I kind of always felt that they are adapted after how Sheldon is dressed.. or maybe its the other way around? They always match in some way. Either both wearing darker moody colours or bright happy colours. Its really sweet.

Amy IS beautiful.

She may not be a glamorous super model, or showing all kinds of ankle.. But personally I think she is fine just the way she it. She is perfect to her character and is beautiful the way she is.

Indeed, just look at this.

How can anyone want to change this cute pink lump of wool?

I agree, she doesn't need a makeover. I actually think they have let Mayim's natural beauty shine through more and more through the seasons, you can see it in her face/makeup, it's just her choice in clothing that, on occasions, is pretty horrid. But she has some really really cute cardigans and blazers and dresses (like in Romance Resonance and Locomotive) too, which I think suits her very well. Amy changing her layered style would be equivalent to Sheldon starting to wear button-up shirts instead of his double layer of t-shirts. It defines her too much. I like that the characters have their "uniforms". If there's one thing I would change about her wardrobe it's only the nightgowns. Those I would happily burn. And a couple of those cardigans that are just way way way too big for her. Give her fitting clothes and I'm happy.

But isn't that also kinda part of her "Uniform"?

To me it adds a uniqueness to her (like Sheldon sleeping as "Dracula"), and fits in with the rest of her outfits.

Well, I don't consider the nightgowns a uniform, to me the uniform is the standard 3-layer cardigan+blouse+t-shirt with a skirt that she wears every day. Stuff like the blazers or the dresses or the sleeping attire isn't part of the uniform to me because it's more for "special occasions".

To be honest, I'm also someone who is not a fan of the whole "Dracula" thing much at all. :p I just don't like the nightgowns because they are way to darn big for her, it's not the style itself that I dislike. I wouldn't mind similar ones if they weren't that big on her, it's like the Thanksgiving dress: it was similar to her other ones but was way way way too big and ridiculous.

You forgot the 2nd cardigan, she wears beneath the 1st one ;)

But I see your point. I was trying to find a picture of her nightgown and can only find the one from the workplace proximity

It's big on her, I agree. But when it comes to Amy, I think it fits her personality more then something Penny wears at night:

She could do like Bernie though:

In my opinion there is no harm in pushing the edges a bit when it comes to the characters wardrobes. They can still keep them within the same "folder" by broadening their clothing options just a little. We are in the seventh season and the viewers know these people very well right now. If you watch the extramaterial of Friends they talk about how they in the 6th-7th season started to mix things up with their clothing and stopped being too afraid of taking the character ooc with different clothing, because by that time people truly knew who they were. And I have noticed that in tbbt they have becomed a little more fearless when it comes to the clothes, Sheldon in The spoiler alert segmentation is a good example with his purple khakis, something I dont think we would have seen him in season 2-3. Just small things like that I like, but ofcourse I dont want them to make any huge changes like taking away Amy's cardigan or Sheldon's double layered tshirts.

About the nightwear, we know Mayim wouldn't be comfortable wearing what Bernie wears because they are pants. I know she's worn sweats before in an episode but she said she was extremely uncomfortable. I don't want Mayim uncomfortable. Even an over-sized t-shirt that went to her knees could be worn and I think Mayim would be ok with that. About Amy face-wise. I think she's beautiful. I truly do. She's so freaking cute and her smile lights up a room and my heart and lady bits (Lesbihonest)

About her clothes, I agree I would like to see her in less bulky sweaters but I'm fine with the cardigans in general. They make Amy 'Amy'.

If they ever do a makeover I would only want it so Sheldon would not notice but all the other guys do and Amy would get upset and ask why he's not saying anything and he says nonchalantly that he always found her pretty (in a Sheldon way) I just want Sheldon to appreciate her looks and have it be known at some point.

I think he does, that was what the line about her being a cute little lump of wool about.

I agree, but it seems to Amy he only finds her cute. ("cute little lump of wool", "cute bespectacled neuroscientist") she IS cute of course, but as a woman in her thirties, she probably wants to hear more than something you would call your dog or 4 year old niece from her boyfriend whom she has now been the recipient of a passionate kiss.

But I wouldn't mind if they in a slow process let her shrink just a little bit, taking off one layer at a time.

Awwww yeahhhh ;) (I'm sorry, I'll stop)

Don't make me use the "But it's Sheldon" card ;)

I get what you're saying, and I too hope he starts telling her things like that, not just thinking it.

Who knows what the kiss has done to him.

You don't need to because no one would have expected Sheldon to kiss his girlfriend out of frustration and then move in so that their bodies were as close as possible. That's not Sheldon. Anything could happen with that guy since the kiss, like you stated, and I think telling his girlfriend he finds her attractive isn't a stretch.

Put that card back into your deck. ;)

may I add that her outfit in the locomotive manipulation was adorable. I think it'd be nice if she wore stuff that was a little less bulky like she did in that episode :)

I did too. My favorite dress, though, was in the scene where they sing to bernadette in the hospital. I remember people (including myself) so excited that you could see her elbows hahaha)
