The Big Bang Theory Renewed For Three Seasons

Recommended Posts

CBS has renewed The Big Bang Theory for three seasons, taking it through to its tenth season in 2016/17. With The Big Bang Theorycurrently enjoying its highest-rated season yet, its renewal and a multi-year deal were widely expected. This is the show's second three-year deal, following the 2011 deal which saw the show renewed through to its current seventh season.

Warner Bros. TV is reportedly in contract negotitations with the five original cast members, after Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch renewed their contracts last year. Deadline.com believes the show's license fee, at $5-$6m per episode, is one of the highest ever for a sitcom.

"Comedy is a big part of our schedule, and ‘The Big Bang Theory’ is the biggest comedy force on television," said CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler. "This multi-year deal further strengthens our network’s position for future seasons and marks another chapter in the great partnership CBS enjoys with Warner Bros. Television for delivering audiences the best in comedy. We’re proud to work with and showcase the incredible talents of Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and this amazing cast every week," she said.

I was just talking to my mother about this yesterday about how I wanted it to go on for 10 seasons. This makes me very happy. There are so many things they can do with all the characters. :)

Fantastic news indeed I'm also looking forward to 3 more years of TBBT and I'm not sure where this places TBBT in long running CBS sitcoms.

It'll definitely tie "M*A*S*H", which ran for 10 seasons. If it goes for 11, it'll tie "Cheers" and "Frasier".

It was also announced that CBS, WB, and Chuck Lorre are in negotiation for a 13 episode, final season of Two and A Half Men.  That would put that show at 12 years, tying it for the second longest running comedy series with My Three Sons.   Negotiations are also underway for Mike and Molly and Mom.  It's a good day to be Chuck Lorre.

Three year renewals are extremely rare for scripted series, which makes this SECOND three year renewal pretty amazing.

Have there been any official news about how contract negotiations with the 5 original cast members are going?

The articles are saying they are just starting.  Some expect Johnny, Jim, and Kaley to approach Friends pay ($1 million) an episode by the end of the renewal.  I saw one that said the the licensing fees will cover production costs.  If so, then WB, the EP, and Johnny, Jim, and Kaley (who got cuts of the sydication deal, and will probably get bigger cuts in the new contracts) are set to make some great money on syndication.  Many times, the Production companies will set low license fees, even possibly losing  mone, to get the extra shows made for syndication.  If the CBS licensing fee is covering all production costs now, then everything is pure profit for syndication.

Among CBS sitcoms it puts TBBT up with M*A*S*H, The Jeffersons, Murphy Brown and Two and a Half Men - ten seasons is rareafied air - congrats to everyone on the show - it's happy dance time for all the fans.

They are risking it. Two years, you have an option for more but cementing a 3 yr deal with no way out. Its dangerous because it can overstay its welcome. Many shows have overstayed and it could happen for TBBT too. I'm not thrilled because I dont want this show to go to ruins..but whatever. And TAAHM...ARE YOU FRICKEN kidding me??? Die show, DIE.

I think they'll be fine in taking it to three more years. I think they still have stories they can tell.

Agreed..... theres sooooo much they can tell in three more years....... i don't think three years is enough actually... lol... I couldn't possibly see it ending any sooner than that though and be realistic ............. because then they would have to rush everything along.... particularly Shamy at a pace that isn't realistic based on their past progress.... but this is PERFECT!!!!
