Shamy As Beauty And The Beast & Penny As Rapunzel

Recommended Posts

I see Penny more as Sleeping Beauty. Waiting in limbo for her life to start.

Shamy as Peter Pan and Wendy.

... 'cos I've been striving to see Sheldon as heroic, and the nearest I can approach is the character in 'As good as it gets" played by Jack Nicholson. I've also being trying to place him in the pantheon of archetypes of which fairy stories are a great repository. His struggle is with himself, and he is his own greatest enemy.

Is Peter Pan heroic or just a kid on hold?

I see Leonard and Penny as the "Beauty and the Beast" trope, to be honest.

Shamy? They might be more of the Sleeping Beauty type, but in reverse. Sheldon is the one sleeping in the castle, Amy is doing her heroic best to get to him and wake him up with a kiss.

Peter Pan was always a flawed hero. Boastful and bumptious, he personifies the self-serving nature of childhood. However, despite his turgid demeanour and his pontifical put downs, the lost boys find themselves inexplicably drawn to his indefinable magnetism.

Wendy Darling is sadly another remnant of the Victorian Madonna-whore dichotomy, an ingenue remarkable only for being the only girl who ever caught Peter's attention.

'As good as it gets' certainly parallels Sheldon's struggles. OCD is an often misunderstood illness.
