Why Is Bbt On The Empty Educational Channel?

Recommended Posts

BBT is on 3 channels currently. However the new ones only come on CBS. Which currently has mostly reserved space for educational television and most of the time doesn't have a lot on it. Its on TBS, CBS and KCOP. KCOP and TBS has a lot more activity. Why would they move it to this almost empty station.

CBS is a national BROADCAST network. In general, it broadcasts from 8 PM to 11 PM every night (7 PM on Sunday). There are also three other networks. ABC, NBC, also run from 8 PM to 11 PM. FOX runs from 8 PM to 10 PM every night (although all four basically have reruns on Saturdays, if there is no sports. The CW runs from 8 to 10 PM Monday through Friday. Other than those times (and a few other times, depending on news or sports) the station is free to run what they want.

Its on TBS, CBS and KCOP. KCOP and TBS has a lot more activity.

TBS and KCOP only run reruns. TBS and KCOP (or WMOR here, each city has it's own independent station) have bought syndication rights, which gives them the right to run up to a certain number of repeats a week (this is determined by the contracts).

Why would they move it to this almost empty station.

First run shows, with the ratings of TBBT go for north of four million per episode for the licensing rights. Another reason is that by SAG rules, most shows are limited to 24 episodes per season. This is due to the misuse of actors in the fifties (up to 39 episodes in a year). As a result, there are 12 weeks in the 36 week television season (that runs from September to May) that have to use reruns of the current season. TBS and KCOP (where you're at), run more repeat episodes in one week, than are produced new in an entire season.
