My phone started blowing up at about 3 am,  I started getting emotional before I even opened my eyes.  I knew it was a "prom" payoff.

I'm really sorry I missed on the chat room freakout, but I was really tired (rehearsal plus a 1/2 hour drive each way) and I had to get up this morning for work (no more half-days for me...)

 

I'm sure it was epic last night.  As it was, I got up around 5am to use the restroom, so naturally I brought my ipad in so I could read the taping report.  So, I'm sitting on the toilet, reading the report and I'm saying, "NO WAY!!!" to my cats...

 

I don't think I woke the neighbors...

 

The thing Sheldon says about the insect/worm/whatever in his stomach reminds me so much of that old Ausiello interview from the end of S2 where Jim was saying that if Sheldon ever met that "special lady" and fell in love, that he would probably think he had some kind of stomach bug or issue and try to diagnose it and that the woman would have to hit him over the head with a frying pan and whisper "You love me" in order for him to get it.

 

I also want to say that I never saw the Shamy as being "broken" or damaged or even that far apart in their relationship.  I think that it was, like many junior high-age relationships, a matter of differing maturity levels.  The girl has already figured out how she feels or what she wants, while the boy is still trying to decide if it's cool to have a girlfriend and to admit you have feelings for her.

 

Whatever ups and downs they have gone through, even the occasional snark, they have always maintained a bond and a friendship.  It was simply a matter of, IMO, Amy easing up and Sheldon easing in.  Sheldon has said that when he has a feeling, he knows it, but this is a feeling he hasn't experienced before.

He knows love--he loves his mother and his meemaw (and his spot) and his hobbies, etc., but he's never felt romantic love.  He knows agape, platonic and filial love, but not eros love.  But he's also smart and when he lets his guard down with Amy, he's able to be real and not worry about pride, and he can figure out what's going on within himself.

 

I'm very glad that they had him saying ILY in a very straightforward, real, sober way.  No ambivalence, no arrogance, no asterisks, no holidays, no fear.

And he had to say it first so that it's obvious that it's not just a courtesy reaction, the way people are expected to reciprocate.

 

I am amused by the way the Shamy nation is riding the rollercoaster again ("Rollercoaster of love...")  Not long ago, people were griping about the relationship, hating the writers, ready to kill Molaro, thinking about walking away.  I knew there was nothing wrong between them, but y'all know me, the negative moments don't phase me.

But even I am feeling the height of the roller coaster thrill with this one.

 

The writers are certainly not perfect and they will occasionally frustrate someone in the audience, but in the long run, I think they know what they're doing.

 

That said, don't be surprised if it's not all onwards and upwards from here.  I don't think anything really bad will happen, but you know it can't be smiles and roses every episode for the next 2-1/2 seasons!

 

The good thing is that this is just the first episode of Sweeps with 3 more to go.  I wonder if Amy will tell the girls what Sheldon said at some point.  Or if their ILY will come out.

But I think that if they got their payoff in this episode, the remaining three might focus on the other couples or on other developments (maybe that psychic's predictions will start to come true...) and we might not get any more "big" Shamy moments for a while.

 

Still, I think we can live off of this one for quite a while.  I can hear the fanfic fires burning already!

Holy FUCK, you guys. I do not know what to do with myself right now.

On the one hand : The declaration! And it was sweet and heartfelt and Sheldon went first and he has butterflies and he swatted Amy's behind with love (love! Holy FUCK!)and there were no take -backsies or mean-spirited undermining of the moment! And it happened, as Marina and others pointed out, when Amy took the pressure off Sheldon!It is like, as so many of you have astutely pointed out, like a fanfic in its detail and perfection.

On the other (and please don't kill me, I love you all), something about the declaration felt-unearned- to me. Don't get me wrong, I believe that Sheldon and Amy respect each other and are attracted to each other. I absolutely believe that Sheldon specifically needs Amy. Love? They're well on their way, but so much of their relationship has been hijacked by Sheldon's sex anxiety that their affection for each other has only very recently been allowed room to breathe. I would love to see Sheldon be there for Amy, to show understanding of her foibles as she does of his, for Amy to be the unreasonable one and -importantly- to be called on it. And the first few episodes of this series seemed to promise that. A little more of that, with a few episodes of Sheldon nervously grappling with his butterflies, followed by this episode? Magnificent. This felt like I was fast-forwarding to the ending of one of my favourite fanfics, without some of the bits in between that I love so well.

Whatever. I will still squeal like a banshee when I see the scene.

I'm just picturing Sheldons look as he says it in my head. DEAD, dead, dead. Now I'm going to watch all the episodes of this season again with the knowledge that when he looks at Amy, he loves her.

OK...what a day! I am very happy right now. It sounds like it was perfectly done, and it's nice that even after going through all the ways we had imagined it happening, I don't think anyone came up with this one.

To quote Sheldon, when he has a feeling he knows it, and he's probably known for a while now. I wouldn't like to say exactly, but Love Spell must have given him plenty to think about over the last year and a bit. The issue was never that he didn't want Amy - far from it. He fell early (25 cats) and fell hard, regardless of how much he denied it. He denied because he was scared, scared of the intensity of what he felt, of everything going wrong (after all, he probably remembered his parents relationship, and thought 'They loved each other once, but that's no guarantee it won't hurt or go bad,' and of not being good enough.

This is a man who is not used to having to work at things. He's probably heard plenty of stories from the rest of the guys over the years about how they messed up, or how it was over as soon as they'd begun, and he didn't want that. Someone else here today said he puts great pressure on himself to be brilliant, but love and sex aren't things you can learn in a book. Once he understands that he doesn't have to be perfect, he will get there, in love with the woman he probably fell for a long time ago.

I didn't think that Sheldon would have told ILY at this point of the season.. I am happily surprised, this is a real moment of empathy between Sheldon and Amy.. and he does it in a so simple and delicate way.. these authors are awesome!

This couple is so tender... I wonder what it will happen to the next episodes at this point!

I am total mess,i screamed when i woke up and read the report, screamed at my daughter that shamy ily (daughter doesnt care ) scared the shit of my hubby when i called him freaking out on the phone (he thought i had a accident), i came to work told 2 tbbt fans here abt shamy ily. One reacted happy, other was ok with it.

Im a mid 30's mother of 2 fan girling over fictional characters and i am so happy.

After reading the taping report a million times, I am starting to wonder if Sheldon had planned to have coitus with Amy after the prom at some point but panicked at the last minute.

It sounds as if, after penny tells Sheldon that coitus is common after prom, he considers and talks about his urges saying the egg line. Knowing Sheldon, he probably researched what is social protocols are, because then Leonard and him are talking and he tells Leonard that he is "taking ALL the social conventions and planning on doing them" Leonard then tells him not to be pressured and he says penny said the same thing, almost as he is now realizing the actual pressure because the word pressure was said twice to him. Then when he sees Amy, he full out panics.

But, to me, it seems there is a moment where Sheldon is considering and maybe if thinking it's going to happen. But panicks last minute.....oh goodness, our Shelly is growing up I may need a minute

I'm actually sure that's exactly why he kicked Amy out of his room too. I think his urges are getting stronger but he's not ready to make a move so he doesn't trust himself anymore. Think about it, he's never enforced the no girls in his room rule with her before. But in this case he just told her he loves her and I'm sure she looks pretty so that combo has to be pretty hard to resist at the moment. So yeah him kicking her out is him being afraid of losing control of his own actions and growing instincts

I don't have a problem with Sheldon coming to this conclusion in the way that he did.  He has cared for her (when she was sick--that turning around in the hallway was a big moment for him), he has overlooked her foibles (and what he considers her foibles) in that he knows she keeps angling for them to live together (so she can see his bathing suit parts), and he doesn't always understand what it is that sets her off, but he won't walk away from her for any of that.

 

I don't think he has to earn the right to say I love you.  I think that that first summer when they were emailing/texting every day was the first step in that direction.  And I think that him interrupting her date with Stuart in order to stake his claim on her was another big step.  I don't think you go out of your way to claim someone as your SO if you're not in love.

IMO, his only real issue has been pride and fear and some degree of not quite being able to articulate these new feelings.

 

I think he's felt the pressure from everyone, including himself, in some sense, to take that final physical step, which he's not ready for, but I don't think there has been any pressure to admit his feelings.

No one's been telling him he needs to tell Amy the actual words, but I think that the relationship survey they did was the precursor to this.  He may not like "romance" and all its trappings, but that doesn't have anything to do with real love.

 

I think that just like Valentine's Day put pressure on him to be romantic, the prom scenario put pressure on him to be physical, to have sex.  For him the more important aspect was that he knew--or was just realizing--that he did indeed love Amy.

 

Amy releasing him from any pressure to "perform" gave him the freedom to be real and open with her.

yea, what makes it even more special.....Its first love for both of them....True butterflies and all.  Think back to your first love, how giddy you were, how excited, etc.  They are stunted teens in a way and thats so loveable to me!!!  And to each have found mutal love in each other that neither has experienced before....amazing (and that is why I ship them...they are so different than the standard TV couples)

imagine in a warped world if they actually progressed further to the altar than Lenny....Doubt this would happen...but just saying.....

actually, for a while now i thought it would be interesting if Shamy got married first...and now, after this... i wouldn't be surprised at all.
