phantagrae Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I don't need PDA's. It's enough they kiss in front of us once in a while. I'd like to have them get back to their odd intellectualism, their glee at being smarter than other people, human experimentation. I'd like to see them working as a team. But then I'd like the whole group to have a common foe this year. Maybe that jerk at the other comic book store. It would be a lot of fun to watch them pool their resources to wreck havoc. That's an interesting idea--as sort of a way to help Stuart get back on his feet. I can see them all going down to the store to help him repaint or restock his inventory or something like that. And of course, Sheldon would be reluctant to do any real physical work. And of course, who knows if any of them would be very good with things like paintbrushes or hammers... I think Penny would probably have the advantage in that arena. As long as she's not asked to handle any glue...

And I loved Shamy working together to "defeat" her with the revised Roommate Agreement.

Queenfisher Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I dunno if any of you guys are familiar with anime or the term "tsundere", but rewatching big bang theory episodes just made me realize Sheldon is the tsundere type! lol! tsundere = hot & cold; a character who is usually cold at the start and then warms up to the person or a person who likes to say the opposite of what he really feels. Yeah, I know that slang has been used a lot in Japanese anime. Sheldon reminds me a little bit of Chiaki sempai in Nodame Cantabile. tmp Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 How's this for a Shamy reunion scenario? Sheldon goes to Amy's apartment upon his return to Pasadena. He's his usual self--a bit aloof in a funny way, and he's clueless to her hints that she really missed him. As he leaves, he remembers that he contractually owes her a kiss from their date night that he either missed or they conducted via Skype. He kisses her, but it's different than their previous kisses. There's more feeling, more warmth, and he hugs her simultaneously. It belies his earlier aloofness and shows just how happy he is to be with her again. Queenfisher Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 How about he gives her the contractual kisses hh missed? he left for four months sooooo he'd give her 4 kisses, and as long as the one in their date night. but on each kiss it gets really intense. at the end they would be put of breath and absolutely into it and dont know if they should stop or not. rawr. koops Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 PDA = Public displays of affection. And how will Sheldon and Amy conduct themselves with it? Interesting question. My guess is that Sheldon would prefer to be private about it, although he did not mind kissing her openly on the train. But in general, I think that Sheldon is struggling with his self-identity, and who he thinks he is or was or wanted to be, and who he is actually becoming. And the fact that whatever he is changing into is something different then what he knows of himself, first of all, which makes him uncomfortable, which is change in-and-of itself which also makes him uncomfortable, and change into something he never thought he was going to be - someone who was physically intimate with another person - which will make him a hypocrite of sorts. He will probably prefer to not be openly physically affectionate; I think that physical intimacy is something Sheldon will want to explore privately and without anyone else knowing until he's ready for them to know. When he is, though, it'll be interesting to see how he handles it. Just the fact that "he kisses girls now" was something he really only confessed to Leonard, and then to his imaginary BFF and idol, Stephan Hawking, while dead drunk. He was upset that Amy had told Penny, and the way he confessed it to Hawking had an element of child-like bragging to it. Just like it was rather immature and inappropriate bragging when he told Amy's co-workers they had a physical relationship that involved hand-holding. The way he brags is encouraging, because he's happy about it and proud of his own progress, which is nice, but it's not the fully accepting attitude of a mature man quite yet. But, you know. Baby steps. He's making progress...(or was. We'll see where he ends up in the new season.) Amy could go a few different ways, but I suspect she will want their physical intimacy to be Very open in the beginning and might change her mind about it later. In fact, that could make for a pretty funny episode. The way that Amy was bullied and mocked most of her life, she definitely has a chip on her shoulder and something to prove to almost everyone she knows about her desirability. She's gotten the message that she's sexually undesirable her whole life and faced a lot of rejection, and even gone to great lengths to try to appease her family about it, like lying about Arman the miniature horse breeder. She wanted to show off Sheldon to her family, because it sounds like they have pressured her and made fun of her for not having a boyfriend and she really wanted to prove that she caught one - indeed, she was already being teased and persistently nagged by her family that Sheldon didn't really exist. Who wouldn't grow a chip on their shoulder over such treatment? She wants the general public to know she and Sheldon are boyfriend/girlfriend via various ways, like a couples costume or holding hands at the movies or date nights that feature contact which a casual observer would deem romantic. It's rather important to her to show the world she can actually catch herself a man. And not just any man, but the amazing creature of towering intellect and hot stuff which is Sheldon Cooper. But, once Amy gets over some of those old insecurities, she might want to put the public displays of affection on the shelf. In fact, I can see an episode where she's needling Sheldon to kiss her in public and hold hands in public, everywhere they go and then she smiles at other women like "see, I'm just as desirable as you!" and it's driving everyone a bit crazy and disgusting people until Amy has to watch Bernadette and Howard, or Penny and Leonard, make out in front of her, and after a long moment of being grossed out she's like, "yeah, okay, over it." And she doesn't care about public displays of affection any longer; she basically puts that whole insecurity and issue to rest. Which would be a relief. But both of them are very proud of the fact they have managed to stumble into this relationship anyway, and both of them are proud of the milestones regarding physical contact that they have managed to achieve so far. So they could be into public displays of affection, at least for awhile, but in the long run it really doesn't seem very them to be all touchy-feely in general, let alone in public. We'll see what the new season holds. I see you're putting your essay award to good use I agree, as usual. The only thing I'm not so sure about is the idea that Amy thinks she's sexually unattractive. I actually don't think that was ever the case: she thought Leonard fell in love with her because of her "beckoning pelvis", that she "knows how she looks", that she has a great caboose to ogle and so on. The only time she's ever made a reference to feeling insecure about her appearance was the hideous Santa Simulation where all sorts of contradictions came out of her mouth. I think more than anything she has grown more insecure through the years as to whether *Sheldon* might ever want to go there, and rightfully so, if you ask me. And I think that's easily confused for insecurity about her own sex-appeal or looks (by some of the "younger" writers on the show too - hence why we get contradictory lines sometimes), but it's actually something different. Like we said many times, she's had so many mixed signals with Sheldon that she's probably totally confused. As for her family, I always took her making up stories just a way to get people off her back (just like she did with the one-date-a-year agreement), rather than trying to avoid mockery or secretly wanting to have a boyfriend. It was clear to me when Penny said to her "I know, he's your first boyfriend and all" when she wanted to show him off in front of her family and she replied that it's not about him being her first boyfriend, it's about the fact that her boyfriend is Sheldon. I think from the way Amy talks about her past she often didn't even realize she was being bullied or mocked, unless it was really obvious like the Gorilla Finger Fowler thing. It's just finally registering with her now, years down the line, once she met real friends and also probably heard their stories about their being bullied and started to connect the dots: "I guess the story was more sad than funny". One thing I often said I wish they explored on the show is the contrast between how fast she changes and adapts and how slowly he does. It's one of the most interesting differences between them and, IMO, the source of so much confusion in their relationship. Amy must be all "We were the same and I changed and did this and this and this, why can't you?", whereas Sheldon, like you said, has huge hung ups about not only change but becoming a hypocrite. He's much more focused on the way he appears to the outside world than Amy is: Amy doesn't care about what other think as long as she's happy, and that includes wearing outfits inherited from her grandma, changing her mind about sex and romance or insulting people by being honest with them. The irony is all these people who worship Sheldon because he's unapologetic about who he is. He is so not. AMY is the one who's unapologetic, Sheldon is constantly trying to come off a certain way and obsessed with people's perception of his persona, even when it means fighting what he really wants. About the general PDA discussion that's going on: I don't think Shamy will be anti-PDA (they have kissed in public with no big fuss and they apparently hold hands all the time, even though Sheldon is "not a fan"), but I agree that I don't see them being touchy-feely in general so I don't think PDA will even be an issue. They just don't seem the kind of people who will be all over each other like Howard and Bernadette are (even Lenny are less in-your-face about it than those two). But I do see Sheldon having that "Grow up, Leonard" attitude about PDA, in the occasion that would ever happen. I just think that they'd both be rather private about the things that really matter, just like yes, they might have told people about the kiss but they don't seem to have told anyone about the fact that they had role-play D&D sex or the fact that he spanked her or gave her a bath. So I can see them skate an interesting line between not being prudish but also keeping an awful lot to themselves once things become more physical. Brandibug Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I really hope for a cute Shamy scene for the episode, even if it's at the very end. Being in a long distance relationship right now, I totally get the anticipation when you see your SO after months. I really want to see her open her door, him hug her, no words said. It'd be cute. :< Shamy's going to get me through the last six months of my husband being in South Korea haha. I need the 12th. I'll be lurking the chat that night, waiting for any Shamy info

Agree. I always thought that Amy was more concerned about not being able to take part into social activities because she was missing specific teenage experiences rather than being excluded. I can see a young clueless Amy Farrah Fowler who doesn't fully understand that the boys next to her were mocking her (unless It's really obvious). So I can see them skate an interesting line between not being prudish but also keeping an awful lot to themselves once things become more physical. I agree with you, so that's why I prefer that their first meeting after Sheldon's return takes place in private. We don't know how long Sheldon has traveled and what happened during the trip. We only know that he left. And even if they spoke one or more times during their separation, I think the first time they'll meet again might be awkward. I can't imagine Sheldon rushing up to Amy and kissing her passionately. Instead, I picture they stare at each other for a while, maybe with one of the their best eyes coitus. I hope to see some sort of little talk between them like in The love spell potential, in which we can have a little clue about Sheldon's and Amy's feelings. Will Sheldon have understood who he could hurt amy? What does Amy really think about Sheldon's escape? And then, it might be a spontaneous hug or kiss. I mean, I would like to see that, but who knows. Fortunately, we are only two days away from the first taping. Yeah!
