While watching this, I had the realization that I really want a partner I can make a fort in my living room with. That is just a surprisingly romantic thought and gesture in general. Anyone can say I love you whether they really mean it or not but having fun together like that means something entirely different. I just love this relationship altogether!

My favorite part of this episode was when Amy gets out the hidden overnight bag - hilarious! I wonder if the whole sleepover thing will be mentioned in any future episodes. I mean, it WAS date night, so technically a kiss should have happened, right? I really wish (and I can't stress this enough) that the writers would give us an onscreen kiss before this season ends. I don't think that is asking for too much. Its been a LONG time!

And I can't wait for the fanfic writers to do their take on Fort Cozy McBlankets!

The smiles between Amy and Sheldon when they were in the fort, were perfection. After Sheldon said, "you know how much I love preparedness" and he smiled while Amy smiled shyly and looked away was so adorable. Amy's voice when she suggested the sleep over was so sensual...I love Mayim! That fort was pretty darn cool too.

 

I forgot, when Sheldon said they suspend the date night parameters and Amy stay later...OMG, the look on his face. It was like he was saying...please say yes!!!! Just my interpretation of the look, lol.

Ok watched this 3 times already. Such a great Shamy episode!! The amount of mature growth wrapped up in the children's wrapping was amazing

1. Loved how they both dress up for datenight.. Candles and all!

2. For some reason the line after Amy's moody line where Sheldon says "I put that in for uterus stuff" I love. Weird as it may be he does see her as a woman...and that wasn't mean it was very fitting.

3. she really knows how to cheer him up! Its like at first he wants to be all mature and questions the fort but when she says "lets have fun" he goes for it

4. We have all said how happy Sheldon has been this season. Well in that fort I never saw him happier.

5. The epicness of Amy getting her germaphobic boyfriend out of "his" spot and onto the floor! Only her and her power could do this.

6. His sad face at the thought of her leaving. And then the face of her suggesting a sleepover....he was so intrigued

7. The negotiations...so classic Shamy right there. And Amy wasn't putting any pressure...she started with PG for goodness sakes so she is ok going slow and did get him to move up a little bit.

8. Sheldon was willing to lend her his pajamas! A man with a pajama rotation!!

9. He was ok with her hiding her stuff. And when he questions "how did you know we'd be in the living room" it almost felt like he would have expected their first sleepover to be maybe in his bedroom

10. And overall the fact that in many ways he was ok throwing the rules out the window for bliss...so yea when the time comes he'll be able to literally let it go. (Not anytime soon)

Overall tremendous growth from Sheldon. I mean he confirmed this by saying "this is a big step"...so even though on paper it was a "sleepover" both parties know it means more than that.

Loved it and them! We have been so blessed this season. I want a mutual kiss with Amy into it and Sheldon expressing some kind of sexual desire for her but even if it doesn't happen until season 9 I am totally ok

I just needed to come here and make a quick comment about Sheldon and Amy in the episode. The fort is wonderful (all hail the fort). It seems like an incredibly innocent way to tackle the traditionally not-at-all-innocent relationship milestone of sleeping over, which is perfect for Shamy. There are emotional facets to this, where they both get to relive and rewrite some of their painful childhood memories, so in a way, it goes in line very well with the idea that Sheldon and Amy are growing up together emotionally, and writing their own rules for how an adult relationship should be developed along the way. It’s enough to make your heart melt.

 

But the main reason I came out of the shadows for a moment is that I have to talk about what a big deal I think this actually is. All of the big future milestones with them (moving in, sex, marriage, etc.) depend on Sheldon’s fear (or him getting over fear, rather). It’s difficult to imagine sex happening anytime soon when the expectation of sex (triggered by seeing Amy in a pretty dress) sends him into a panic attack. I’m guessing that same fear is why he is so reluctant to move in with her (I know that he loves Leonard and doesn’t want him to leave, but I’ve often wondered if his clinginess to Leonard about moving in with Penny, is at least in part motivated by the fear that the next logical step would then be to live with Amy, which is scary).

 

The reason why I think the fort was so important was because it provided a fun, innocent, and safe way of him finding out that spending the night together is not going to make the world end. They probably had breakfast together, and she might have even showered there…and Sheldon is going to learn that none of that is really scary at all. In fact, anything that happened as a result is likely to be remembered by him as a positive experience. So the fort is a way to help diminish his fear of progressing the relationship in a big way. Other milestones like kissing did the same thing, but I think the fort is more significant. Not just for the fact that sleeping together worked out fine, but for the fact that taking a big step in the relationship was nothing to be afraid of. Learning that taking another big step could have a positive outcome might encourage (or at least lessen resistance) to big steps that we know are inevitable on down the line, especially the possibility of moving in together sometime. So yes, while it might seem juvenile, I think it’s the absolute best way for their first sleepover to happen, and I think it can only lead to them both growing up and tackling these big adult relationship issues at the pace that is natural and comfortable to them.

 

Also, I couldn’t stop thinking of the Romance Resonance, when Sheldon told Amy that she “made the fort”. Now, they’ve both literally made the fort. (Aww!)

I just want to add that I’ve noticed how much Amy has been gently helping Sheldon get over some of his fears. Some people seem to think that she manipulates Sheldon, but it’s always seemed more therapeutic to me. She seems to understand how he thinks and is helping him take small steps that improve his life, and he seems so happy from it all!

 

Just from this season: he can admit that he loves her, he has learned to drive, he is accepting that Leonard will move out, he can be in her bedroom without a panic attack, and he can even have her stay overnight.

 

I also think the show has shown a nice balance between Sheldon’s fears/reluctance and Amy’s desire to move forward. It’s never felt like Sheldon has been forced to move forward in his relationship, the choices have always ultimately been his own. At the same time they’ve also been true to Amy, though, in that she is always straightforward and honest about what she wants. She might try to nudge, but Sheldon decides whether to take the step.

I agree with you guys, and it's been so great the fact that Sheldon is initiating all things. He was the one who didn't want the date to end at 10, while Amy was ready to help him organize the room and leave. He realized by himself he wanted her to stay, so the sleepover was just logical. I can't express how much I loved this scene, and I don't have to say I rewatched it all night long

God yes!  I definitely picked up on that and I am positive this was meant to be, like the train kiss, the start of a new, more intimate phase in their relationship.  I would not be surprised if this now becomes a regular thing that gets worked into the relationship agreement in some way.  I loved that they had their first sleepover in the living room!  Takes all the sex pressure off Sheldon (especially with Leonard in the apartment) and so it lets him be comfortable with the idea without him freaking that it has to be something more. Now that he will have seen that he actually likes waking up with her around and that its not scary in the least, that opens up a lot of doors in the future.

 

Now he can start to think about having her in his room (platonically at first if that makes him more comfortable) and then moving onward towards more physical stuff etc. The writers are playing this one beautifully.  And as Kerry said, as much as I want that kiss, this latest episode was so much better for set up for next season being more physical that I am thrilled and if I get nothing else, I am 100% good with this season.  The kiss at this point would just be the icing on the cake.

Such a great episode (all around, for me, but especially the Shamy stuff!) and I love reading all the great comments here.

 

I don't think I can even express how much I loved the episode, all the dialog between them at dinner and then in the fort.

 

They were just so dang happy!

 

And I do like what y'all were saying about the significance of having this first non-pressured boy/girl sleepover.  Sheldon wanted her to stay longer and when she suggested staying overnight, he didn't really balk at the idea.  It hadn't occured to him, necessarily, but he didn't object or immediately reject the idea as "you just can't keep it in your space pants" or "everything's just about sex with you".

He was clear that he wanted it to be G-rated, but he didn't reject the idea as a whole, which is significant.
