Ok - one other thing I have been thinking about.  

 

- All of this 'Amy needing a break' when nothing had been leading up to this - at all.  

- Sheldon suddenly producing a ring, again with little or no lead up.  Yes they have exchanged ILY's and been closer, but they have only just had one sleep over. This seems rather a quick move for someone who takes things as slowly as Sheldon.

 

Could this be a dream sequence

We all know Sheldon is a very, very special snowflake, and Amy knows that very well too, that doesn't mean she must brush off everything and forgive everything, all the time.

 

I can imagine how frustrating it has to be to be involved in the most sexual situation you had ever been, not only with your boyfriend, but in your whole life, feeling all happy and excited, only to be taken aback violently by the implication that the other part involved, despite his body language, is NOT thinking about you, but about something else (in any other guy it could be another woman, in the case of mr. special, a superhero tv show, thing is, it's still not about you), after the initial awful shock, she still is looking for hope asking "Is that all you are thinking about?", and his response is not clear or satisfactory enough. The fact that he was "gracing" you with kisses in that very moment doesn't mean you are being ungrateful for not being satisfied with the scrapes of attention he is dedicating to you.

 

And let's not pretend it came out of the blue, I mean, this have to be something like the last straw for Amy at this point, what's really surprising is that it took her too long to finally react. I agree that the writers picked precisely this time for the shock value and to propiciate an end-of-season cliffhanger, but it doesn't mean there were not good ingredients for disaster already in the mix.

 

Because yes, he had said loud and clear that he loves her, his body seems to react to her as well, but his mind somehow seems to continue being absent, he had also ignored her more than one time regarding important things, and no matter how much she wants to believe it's just a matter of time, he keeps sending mixed signals and being unclear about what he really wants in regards to her.

 

I'm fine with this turn of events because, even if cliched, I hope this could mean a real opportunity for Sheldon to finally step up his game and give to her the real relevance she has in his life.

 

And I'm also fine because Amy said "enough" precisely in the middle of and after their first passionate make out, because it's clear for me that she's not "All fine, I'll take all of his crap as long as he is giving me sugar", she not only want sex and kisses from him, she wants to know he really loves her, with his body and mind, she's not fine anymore with being the "hottest one" in his list of favorite things, he wants him to compromise and to concentrate in her at least while they are in the middle of an intimate moment, is that really too much to ask?

I really really really know in my head that the writers have wonderful things planned for them but the stomach kinda dropped when I read it.

But the great thing about this is just think of all the GREAT FANFICTION that will be written because of this cliffhanger.

Amy did not say BREAK UP. A break can mean lots of things. I think it will be interesting to see where the writers take this and I'm positive where it will end. NO FEAR AT ALL about them not being together. The comedy that could be done with this will be great.

Given past history, maybe Sheldon will propose to Amy while she is out on a date with Stuart

Let me just clear a few things up:

 

- Amy has NOT left Sheldon. She is taking a step back to re-evaluate the relationship.

- Amy is doing this because she feel's she's been patient for long enough.. She is finally getting to make out with him but he is still distracted with Super Hero's

- Amy is clearly frustrated that with the physical progress being apparent, Sheldon is still showing immaturity.

- Amy Said she LOVED Sheldon.. And taking a step back was hard for her

- The tag scene, nor Amy or Sheldon were angry... It was more of stunned emotion.

- When Sheldon pulled out the ring.. He looked pretty damn serious.

 

Right now. We know no underlining story as to where the ring came from and when. But he has one.

I really like what the writers did. They clearly showed that Amy's problem is that she doesn't believe Sheldon desires her. And the way to solve this? They are going to have Sheldon make it very clear to Amy that he does. I'm excited!

Wow. There's a limit. Sheldon has already gone a long way. He can't help it if his mind is always working.

 

Is she right to complain about it? She was, at the beginning of their Relationship, when it was much more difficult. When she had to trick him to get a very simple and chaste kiss on her lips.

 

But now at the end of a make out session, it just sounds ridiculous. Way too late.

 

If it's just a matter of knowing whether he desires her, OK. But she's complaining about their slow pace, right? She's complaining when things have never been that fast before. And I'm only mentioning what really happened between them during that season, not the ring which is just an announcement of what's coming on next season for now.

 

So no sorry, but that doesn't make sense at all.

 

It's just overreacting from Amy - a bit like Sheldon last year, but worse in my opinion, since their relationship had never been in danger except in the eye of pessimistic viewers - and very bad writing from the authors who so desesperately needed a cliffhanger that they invented that crazy situation out of their magic hat.

If anyone wants a more word for word version of the two Shamy scenes, this is the best I can remember. It might be a little inaccurate but it's pretty close. And someone can correct it.

COLD OPEN

(making out), then they both pull away

AMY: I can't believe 5 years ago today was our first date.

SHELDON: I know. (a beat) Do you think I should start watching the Flash show?

AMY: Is that seriously what you're thinking about right now?

SHELDON: It's one of the things I'm thinking about (he said this very flirty)

AMY: Is one of those things me?

SHELDON: Yes! I was wondering if I should watch the Flash show. Oh, I know. I should ask Amy. (pause) Well anyway. (leans in to kiss her again)

AMY: (pushes him away, he looks at her confused) Are you kidding me right now?

SHELDON: Yeah you're right. You kinda killed the mood. (Stands up to walk to kitchen)

AMY: (stands to follow him) Don't you think it's a little ironic that you idolize a man who moves extremely fast when after 5 years all I can get out of you is a distracted makeout session?

SHELDON: Irony isn't really my strong suit. But I'm getting better at sarcasm. Would you like to try that?

AMY: (sarcastically) I'd love to!

SHELDON: (a pause, he doesn't get it) Whenever you're ready

I'd like to note here that while the Lenny stuff is happening it's very obvious Sheldon is trying to reach Amy through phone or on his computer. Finally in the last scene, she answers.

SHELDON: Hello

AMY: Hello

SHELDON: I've been thinking a lot about our relationship-

AMY: (cutting him off) I have been thinking about it too. Being your girlfriend is very difficult. It's both emotionally and physically exhausting. (Getting upset, close to crying) This is so hard because I love you, but I think it's best we take a step back and reevaluate our relationship.

SHELDON: (stunned) Oh

AMY: I hope you understand.

SHELDON: (pause) Okay

AMY: Goodbye, Sheldon

SHELDON: Goodbye.

He closes the laptop lid looking shocked and sad. He looks over at his Gollum figurine on his desk and reaches across to hold it.

SHELDON: Well, Gollum, you seem to be an expert on rings....

The audience screams bloody murder while Sheldon opens the desk drawer and pulls out the ring box. He opens it up and looks at the ring. Finally, after quite a bit of time, the audience quietens down.

SHELDON: What should I do with this one?

And that's it. No joke at the end. I'm guessing it will be a fade out rather than a cut to black. It was very heartbreaking and powerful and epic all at once. He looked shocked and upset but I definitely feel he has the determination to go after his woman.

Watching the taping was just amazing. I am worried though how the writers are going to play this out. It could go in so many different directions. I hope they don't drag them getting back to a good place for too long.

I don't think either one of them is wrong here. I think from Amy's point of view, she's been with him (for all intense and purposes) for 5 years and on the physical side of it, yeah, all she's gotten is a make out session (their first one??). And what does he do in the MIDDLE of it...(Not the end)?

He asks if he should watch a stupid TV show. She's gotta be thinking stuff like....

"OMG! He wants to watch TV instead of make out with me?"

"He doesn't want to do this. Then why is he? To make me happy."

"I don't want him doing something like this to make me happy. I want him to do this because HE WANTS TO DO THIS too."

I think he really needs to Show And Tell Amy that he's not in this to make her happy. He's in it because he wants to be. And that's what this finale has set up for season 9.

AGREE!!!! I've spent my whole day so far at work thinking about this and I think it's gonna be great.

As I said in S8 discussion thread, the Shamy development seems out of place in this season-- why does Amy bring this up now?   As far as S8 goes, Shamy has been in a SOLID place.   It seems oddly placed to me here and just seems to be in the finale for drama and to set up their eventual engagement.

 

My fear is that they gloss over this in a one off line early in the season.  Hence, no development and the push/pull status quo stuff starts back up.  Now that Amy has taken the initiative to take this break, I have high expectations of how she deals with it.  That's my expectation but this is a comedy and hence my fear that is glossed over early next season.

 

Break up/on a break (the friends reference here stinks...I choose not to like it--not saying they will pull a Rachel/Ross...but come on TPTB, really?!):  Ugh!! the disappointment here is frustrating.  We have two characters that have lil experience with adult romantic relationships.  Amy sounds like she clearly says that needs space-time to think.  Sheldon looks sad and confused and is not sure what to do with the ring?  It sounds like Sheldon understands the implication that Amy could decide NOT him.  Why else does anyone step away from the relationship?  It isn't because that person is 100% about everything.  He seems to have gotten that point.  The rest is just dissecting words -the is it a break or a break up? 

 

So no I am not dooming and glooming just voicing my disappointment that this is the route TPTB chose after a very solid season for Shamy.   In the end, I don't think this alters the happily ever after at all for Shamy.  But yeah, it has me scratching my head going where did this come from?  Very odd timing for this to occur.
