Position wise, they actually looked almost identical to when Lenny were kissing on the couch in Colonization Application, right before Leonard told her about the sex paint lol. The only difference is Sheldon's hand is further up on her thigh. And he's taller, of course. But the actual kissing (and keep in mind we only saw it once and all our brains were short-circuiting) was long and continuous with lots of head movement and lip movement. I can't say whether there were breaks where their mouths would part and go back in, I'm blanking on what their actual lips were doing! But there was definitely movement. When Michy said this is NOTHING like the two previous kisses and that they've graduated, she wasn't kidding. This isn't just lips pressed together, everyone. They were both really into it. And it might be the hottest thing I've ever seen.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! still can't believe the writers are giving us this!!!!!!!   :heat:

If it weren't for the "break" in the end, this would have been the best episode ever

I just thought of another reason Amy might have been upset other than him losing focus on kissing (forgive me if this has already been said) but after saying something like "I can't believe it's been five years since our first date." Don't you kind of want your partner to say something like "I know, and I love you more everyday." Or "I can never thank Raj and Howard enough for leading me to you." Totes not "hey do you think we should watch the Flash?" Maybe it was more that then the lack of attention to kissing.

Thank you for putting into words what was in my mind since the moment I read the taping report for the season finale.

Again, spot on! Sarah7, you speak out every word from my mind, and this post just makes me want to be your BFF :icon_redface:

Thank you so much Nusspot and Mothandfire for your kind comments about my posts :icon_redface:

@Koops, I read your post repyling to mine and I understand what you are saying, I feel what you wrote is basically what I think, just much better written and from a point of view that moves away from my current cynical attitude :)

However, this paragraph in particular drew my attention:

But I see some looking at it as “Amy wants X and Y, Sheldon doesn’t give it to her, therefore Sheldon is a jerk. But I ship them”. And that’s what puzzles me the most about the approach some take to Shamy in this situation: if you think that Sheldon would have never been the boyfriend he is without Amy’s nagging and manipulative behavior, that he would have been content by himself, that Sheldon brings out the worst of Amy and that Amy wouldn’t need to be manipulative and nagging with another guy, then I ask myself. Why do you ship them? Why don’t you just wish for them to break up and go their separate ways and be happy with all their needs being met by other people (or nobody, in Sheldon's case)?

I'm not sure if here you are speaking in a general sense or if you are asking me this directly. If you remember me (I absolutely wouldn't blame you if you don't, since from a good time ago, I practically never post, and I'm even a deficient lurker at the forum) you'll know that I don't believe any of the stuff you mentioned before, yet, at the same time, as a shipper I'm still quite unsatisfied with what I'm seeing in the show right now. That's why the bolded part is an excellent question for me at this moment.

Why do I ship them? Leaving aside the fact that I'd be totally entitled to ship them even if they were for real the terrible couple you described, since you would agree with me there's nothing wrong (albeit, a bit weird) with shipping a disfunctional couple

Well, I ship them because I can't stop loving them, I fell for them since their first encounter, they were totally perfect back then, perfectly in tune, their relationship was fun, balanced and they were equals for real. I also knew that if they were going to develop their relationship, things were going to stop being ideal and there will be a lot of ups and downs, and things will get ugly more than once, but I also know i'll be with them 'till the end. Now, that doesn't mean I will cheer for everything that happens in the show between and around them and that doesn't mean I'm happy right now with the treatment the writers are giving to them as a couple and as individual characters.

Of course I don't think Sheldon is a jerk, but his words and attitudes makes him look like one several times, and I don't think Amy is mean and manipulative, but her actions could be controversial, and I don't think the Shamy dynamic must be that confrontational most of the time in order to function and advance, but the writers had chosen to follow that path and it's their story and their characters.

Maybe the reason because I'm totally fine with what happened at the finale,  and even when I'm doing my best to remain impartial, I can't help but agree more with Amy, is because I feel mirrored in her as a shipper, I mean, I understand who Sheldon is, how his mind works, that he is making an great effort, etc, and I know that after an awful couple of seasons this one have had great moments as the love confession, the fort and everything, but I still feel there's something off, and something lacking, after these five years, I also feel I deserve more than a distracted makeout session.

Call me ungrateful and selfish, but even after all the latest great stuff and even when I know I'll never stop shipping them, right now I feel the relationship is still lacking some of the magic that drawn me to them in the first place.

I honestly think this "time-off" was needed, even if it feels ill-timed at this moment, and here I am, hoping it can bring back what's lacking right now (IMO), a less reactive and more proactive Sheldon, the recovery of Amy as a character (please, stop treating her as only the less-important part of Shamy). Nothing would make me happier than see her side of the story for a change, could it be that Amy's attitude results puzzling for some because we rarely have the opportunity to see the Shamy stuff from her point of view? What do we really know about how she feels? Why after Sheldon saying the "L" word to her and all that kissing she still feels something is wrong? Just because she is that vain and self-centered? We have a lot to talk about Sheldon's idiosincrasies and psyche because the focus is all the time on him, I want to see more of her (the fact that she is my favorite character has nothing to do with that, of course  )

I know I'm perhaps asking too much, that TBBT's creators aim is not really that deep, but I hope this opportunity will be taken beyond from just a cliffhanger device and brings good stuff for Shamy as a couple and for each one of them as individual characters.

Oh!, and the ring, I haven't mentioned the ring before. I don't know if we are going to be told about the specifics, but I don't think he bought it as an intent to make amends with her after their fight, I feel Sheldon have had it from some time ago (just as his love and desire for her) but he's still afraid of giving it to her, as he feels he's not ready to give himself completely to her. I think that's beautiful in a sense, now I would like this plot to be given the proper treatment in the show, not necessarily a sappy or corny one, but the one a couple like Shamy deserves.

Just a moment to release the teenage in me before I will be able to thought about this like normal people do

Sheldon and Amy siting on the couch KISSSSSSING!!!

Okey I'm good now :icon_cheesygrin:

So here are my two cents. I think I can see it from both sides, even while you all already said that very well. I can see Amy overreacting, but in the same time, I can see why. There is always last straw, can be really little one but the more important. There was a lot of insecurity, disappointment, and quiet waiting in those 5 years. I can see Sheldon being shocked, or not getting her reaction at all. There is a stable pattern in his girlfriend's behavior - the patience, stability, rationality. Now she reacted in a way, he never saw or probably expected. One thing which always baffles me is how Amy always explains human behavior and proper social reactions to Sheldon, still she act with him like she wanted from him to just know out of nature. These two have a problem to solve of course and that's still their hard time in talking feelings. Let's face it, they like to do it way more with others than with each other. But for me the imperfection is what makes them perfect to me.

I will be probably in minority but I actually like this little drama. I hope it will resolve in terms of few episodes but I'm looking forward Sheldon and Amy insecure, dealing with unexpected situation and emotions, in time of crisis. We will have chance to see how they react to that situation, how they deal with time apart, how they are finding their way back to each other, I think this only will made them stronger. I see it as an opportunity for us to have even more heartwarming moments from these two. I just really hope it will not be another S8 premiere when everything will be solved by one sentence. I finally want to see Amy admitting her worries, whatever it is about her attractiveness or he fear of him being well known flight risk, or her fears he maybe isn't into this relationship as much as she is, which I think is more steaming from her own insecurities and experiences from hurt people caused her in the past. I want to see Amy who appreciate Sheldon for everything that he already done for her instead of worrying so much about tomorrow. I want to see Sheldon who helps her and will be the stronger one for time to time, helping Amy finding her confidence, giving her the feeling of security she needs so much and was giving him for years. I want her to be the person he will go to while having relationship problems. But as Amy we can't have everything today, and that's fine. We have another two years and would we do with perfect couple who doesn't move anywhere?

I actually like that this plot happened now. If it did happened in season six, or seven I don't think it would fit Amy's character as much. She was still in the "I will do anything just don't leave me" phase. Girl grow some confidence this season and back then, I would be surprised if she would be brave enough to make this step. And in season 6,7 Sheldon cared for Amy deeply but he also was still in denial partly and full of fears. Back then I would expect him to react more in terms of "I will show you, that I can be on my own." or "I will just lock my feelings." After all of happened this season I can believe them they can resolve it as adults, making it experience which will move them forward and get them even closer. They made such of incredible progress, there was much more happiness than we would imagine last season, and there is mutual desire to be with each forever. Even while Amy was pissed, she still couldn't force herself to break up with him definitely, and as much as Sheldon was shocked and disappointed he forced himself to not being selfish or confrontational even when was disagreeing with her reaction. He gave her the time. They will stay together because that's their priority, and it will be beautiful for us to watch.

To be honest, I'm still in too big shock to talk about the ring. Probably as much as Amy will be that one day Sheldon will get on his knee... :cheese:

Oh yes. I totally think that too. It's not the fact that he lost focus on kissing, because I don't think he did; he was going in for more. I think it was because she was expecting something more... personal and emotional to her "It's been 5 years since we've met", like you said. And I think sometimes when Sheldon is put "on the spot" about having to say something emotional, he kind of fumbles and just makes a mess. He is much better at expressing his feelings when they just come out of him spontaneously, than when he has to respond. And I think this was the case in this instance. But I get, again, that this upset her.

Thanks for this lovely post. We are totally on the same wavelength here, and there's nothing more satisfying than finding common ground after a "disagreement" :)

Yes, I was saying "you", general you, not you specifically, but thanks for addressing the question. I feel exactly the same as you do, but I guess I found so so so much satisfaction this season in them as a couple, I thought that they were pretty much back to S4/5 levels of compatibility, with added physical and emotional connection. So, for me, the finale came a bit out of nowhere and I might have been in a much happier place, shipping wise, than you are. I was a strong supporter of the "break" idea in the S8 premiere (I even started a fic about it, that I then struggled to continue because canon was so good), and even at the end of S6. But I felt that, like you say, you don't necessarily need drama and tension to grow a couple and that Shamy were growing so much closer and stronger this season that I would have preferred a more natural, and calmer progression in these circumstances than what we ended up getting. I just feel like this twist came at the wrong time for me.

Unfortunately, I guess the writers like to pull the drama out of the hat whenever it suits them, so I will have to deal with it. I just want them to handle it in a non-conventional way, and be careful with it, because I think there's a lot of subtleties that could really ruin the couple for me, and I won't go into the details now. But, mainly, I ship Shamy because, to quote TXF, they're each other's "one in six billion". They have a connection that they never found with anyone else in their entire lives. To me, that mental connection is the basis of their relationship and is something that is inherent to who AMY is to Sheldon and to who SHELDON is to Amy. And to me, that connection needs to be the one thing they can't do without. That's the feeling I got about them from day one. And by "connection" I don't mean love. I know people say "love sometimes is not enough" and I agree with that. But here I'm talking about something deeper than that. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but I do think they have something even deeper than love and something way more satisfying than just love. And I do think that, in Sheldon's mind, Amy is utterly irreplaceable. If she were to leave him for good, that would be it for him. He would never contemplate turning his life upside down, and reconsider all his beliefs for anyone else. And that's what I'm getting at: people say that they want to see Sheldon want Amy as much as she wants him, and I'm 100% on board with that. But I also want to see that Sheldon is as irreplaceable to Amy as she is to him. And I do often worry that, because of the emphasis on her needs for intimacy and romance, the writers might not think he is. The one thing I want the most from S9 is to see that Sheldon *wants* Amy and is not just going along for the ride, and that Amy truly sees Sheldon as "her only chance at true love" (or rather, "connection"), and could never bear to let him go.

HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER!

I'm not gonna lie, I was reading some updates through my phone. When I saw the post about the kiss I ran over to my desk, fired up Sheldon (my laptop) and squealed with delight.

I find this draw about the make out... https://instagram.com/p/13EnxKtzt2/

For those who went in the taping can say better if it's close enogh?...

In shows and movies I watch and in personal life, I prefer make out sessions than actual "sexy time" scenes.... this image is BURNED TO MY BRAIN UNTIL FINALE. I will be watching ONLY the Shamy finale makeout scene for x-times just to calm myself until season 9, and me typing this while deleting some media in my tablet to make space for this makeout scene.

@Koops...re. Your last post (#13291)

Towards the end, you say "But I also want to see that Sheldon is as irreplaceable to Amy as she is to him."

5:19 The Weekend Vortex

Amy: "Not just my first boyfriend, he's the best boyfriend. I mean, think about it. I'm dating Sheldon Cooper."

Sounds like she thinks he's irreplaceable to me.

i just wanted to add my little thought to this conversation :) i know that some people are thinking amy over-reacted to the flash comment or that its come out of nowhere in a pretty happy season but you need to look at it from amy's perspective. Sure the mars incident would've been more of a reason to need a break but regardless, it still happened and although amy may have forgiven him soon after, she will always remember the fact that he did that in the first place.

I assume she was willing to forgive him because she knows he learns from mistakes (breaking up with her led to amy dating stuart which led to sheldon asking her out when he realised the mistake he made of letting her go for example), So she would've thought "well know he knows how upset leaving me out of decisions like that makes me, he probably won't do it again in the future". And she soldiers on in hopes he has realised his mistake and will not reoccur. This is her strong suit, she hides her emotions and soldiers on in hopes that sheldon will come to his own realisations of what is right/wrong, works/doesn't work in their relationship.

Again in the fort episode, she settles with sheldon's compromise for a mild sleepover perhaps in hopes that again he will realize himself that 'mild' is not enough anymore, he wants more. Yet, amy hides her true emotions but so does sheldon. He is happy to admit to everyone that "he has urges" and "he's not ruled it out" etc etc but when it comes to being with amy, he cowers away, he doesn't open up to her fully even though he is willing to admit it to everyone else. So although these milestones have been phenomenal, it really has masked the underlying issue that is that sheldon has not yet put amy before himself or opened up his heart and soul to her completely and that amy continues to hide her true feelings in hope that things will change with experience and realisation. These events she is able to forgive or put up with have built up and have been building up for the last couple of seasons but as i mentioned, she soldiers on regardless because he loves sheldon and always hopes for the best.

So come their 5th year anniversary, a day I'm assuming both amy and sheldon want to be romantic and here they are having their first real heated make out sesh and no doubt amy is getting excited (finally sheldon is taking control, he's really into this, he must really love me etc etc), and as amy does, she's probably hoping sheldon has learnt from the past that these moments are special and  perhaps today that he's finally giving in to his feelings. And here's the big moment, a break from the kiss, they stare into each others eyes, the tension is building and amy contributes to the mood with "i can't believe its been 5 years since we first met". Sheldon continues to stare enticingly back at her and mutters in return, "do you think i should start watching the flash". Now to any other couple, yea that alone would be hella annoying but shamy is no ordinary couple. Yes sheldon's mind is constantly thinking but here's amy, so enveloped in the mood, hoping the past roadblocks have lead to this amazing anniversary but no, she's just gotten a completely unromantic, random question and not even a returned sentiment about their anniversary. Yes the comment may have been small to an ordinary couple but to amy, it has just hit her right in the face again that sheldon still hasn't learnt, he still hasn't realised what committing to her means. And no doubt in that very moment, amy probably envisioned their future and wondered whether, for example, the first time they have sex she'll be over the moon and say "sheldon that was incredible, i love you" to which he will respond "do you think i should order chinese for dinner".

so what I've probably done a really shitty job of saying is that although the comment may have seemed kinda small or that amy may have over-reacted given their happy season, i say it wasn't. It was a build up of suppressed feelings and constant hopes that sheldon will learn from mistakes that has finally pushed her over the edge.

And from sheldon's perspective, thank god. To think he was ready to propose to amy even though he still hasn't given himself 100% to her, would've led to upset eventually because a moment like this make out may have happened again. hell he may have even gotten distracted proposing to her like "amy farrah fowler, will you..actually do you know where the proposal originated".  So now he will see, moments like these can't happen again, he will finally see that there really is no way around avoiding feelings and constantly hiding, surpassing, manipulating them. This will be the final push for him to learn that he needs to stop thinking of himself over amy.  SHELDON COOPER YOU LOVE AND WANT TO MARRY AMY FARRAH FOWLER, YOU NEED TO GIVE YOUR HEART AND SOUL TO THIS WOMAN GOD DAMN :p

haha omg this is longest thing I've ever posted, my apologies haha
