To somehow soften the impending heartbreak I will be experiencing 2 episodes away, will cry like it is my own "break" that happened, and will nurse until Season 9 begins, I'm watching episodes with great Shamy moments. I'm starting with The Lunar Excitation - I sense how much Sheldon is impressed as to how similar he and Amy is upon first meeting, and there is an undefined, awkward attraction written all over between them. Also, I had a tepid reaction when I first saw Amy, but it made me smile as to how much she has grown, in every aspect (growing prettier, less "in-your-face" attitude, and became more emphatic to other characters).

I hope the writers explore the idea of Howard and Raj finding out about Shamy's engagement and harp/tease Sheldon about how much he didn't want to meet up with Amy Farrah Fowler, but turns out she's someone who will change his life forever. Koothrappali's party/wedding planning expertise is another comedic goldmine. Seriously that dude CAN REALLY PLAN AN EVENT. I so wanted to smash my way into my TV, go into his comic book store Halloween party and have some "Night of the Living Bread" and "Draculoni and Cheese".

I'm just going to watch Aquarius over the summer and read up about the taping of the new X-Files series over the summer, and hope for news about Jim's play. :)

"Series" changing may be, in my opinion, first of all logistical changes; if one of the two couples (or both, even if  I don't see 2 weddings in one season)  eventually merry the living arrangements have to change, maybe new sets have to be built an so on..But also a  big series change is Shaldon becaming a "sexual" individual. Taping reports about the the make-out scene all agree in telling us how passionate it was. Actually, I was foreseeing during the developement of this season that sexual issues wolud be coming, but I thought that they wolud be developed with much more continuity with what we have seen up to now...so sweetness, ackwardness, but nothing like this. I agree that Shaldon's character will not be twisted in all his other quirks, it wolud be really too wierd...but anyway this is a big change.

You know compatibility with your partner is nice. It can predict if you will be in it for the long term. Amy and Sheldon have a life sentence together no doubt about it.

While going through your life sentence wouldn't be nice if someone paid you a compliment once in a while? That someone wanted to hold your hand of their own free will without complaining about it? Kissed you and actually said that they liked it? Oh but wait that is too much to expect from Sheldon. She knows who he was when she agreed to be his girlfriend.

Well, that depends on whose definition of 'nice' we are using, no? Initially, when Sheldon and Amy first met, they were both on the same page regarding romance, love and sex. Their definition of 'nice' was exactly the same, and it didn't include hand-holding or kissing. It did include compliments on their big brains, which they doled out to each other constantly. In fact, if i may say so, Sheldon was shown to be consistently the more ardent of the two initially.

Then, suddenly, the writers decided that it would be fun to have Amy's definition of 'nice' change. Now, Amy's definition of 'nice' included hand-holding, kissing, hearts and flowers. Or maybe it didn't, but she decided that she wanted to try those things. Nothing wrong with that, BUT it also doesn't mean that Sheldon is obligated to provide them.

Obviously, Sheldon isn't perfect. I'm just pointing out that Amy changed very rapidly, and that maybe, just maybe, it's not always Sheldon's fault if he doesn't change at the same pace.

And, yes, Amy did know what she was letting herself in for. She had it in writing, for heaven's sake. Amy is allowed to want love/sex/romance/whatever. Sheldon is allowed to not want them, or want them later. In that case, Amy can either renegotiate the terms of their relationship, or decide whether she wants in or out. Sheldon is not automatically culpable for not immediately wanting the same things as his girlfriend- especially if he thought he did want the same things.

As for Lenny, Penny didn't offer any real solutions to their predicament either. Leonard said they would tackle it together. Their love for one another is the only tool they have to keep their romance on track. But they are trying.

They may be trying. I really don't want this to get into a discussion of Lenny (and the mods would quite rightly smack my wrist if it did), but I think that the finale highlighted the problems with the writing of Lenny this season. Penny was voicing valid concerns during the Lenny/Shamy double date. I'm not saying they're show-stoppers, but they are valid concerns. Leonard's response, while it may be sweet, smacked to me of condescension. It said to me 'I really don't want to take your concerns seriously and discuss them like an adult, so I'll fob you off with some poetic, sincere but ultimately meaningless fluff.'

I was exasperated when Amy responded positively to Leonard's line. I thought 'Can't you see he's dismissing her? However exasperating your boyfriend may be, he has never responded to your concerns with implicit condescension. He may not UNDERSTAND why you're upset. His lack of understanding may be utterly infuriating. But whenever your anger has penetrated, he's usually taken it seriously.'

I'll try to explain what I mean. My ex once said that he hated it when men said things like 'You're so beautiful when you're angry' to their girlfriends. Yes, your girlfriend may be beautiful when she's angry, but should the fact that she is angry be registering first? Shouldn't you be concerned that she's angry, and listening and trying to fix it together? Instead of zooming right past her feelings to your aesthetic enjoyment of them? Isn't that condescension in the guise of romance?

That, to me, was Leonard's response. To be fair to Leonard, he may not have wanted to discuss what Penny said in front of Sheldon and Amy. But the way his line came across to me was 'You're so beautiful when you're expressing genuine worry about our relationship, that I have no interest in acknowledging or discussing.'

The red flags I mentioned in my original post which stemmed all these responses, was simply pointing out that it was very timely that after watching the finale that the two couples were struggling with the same issues. It only dawned on me as I watched it that it was foreshadowing the finale, which may or may not have been on purpose. I recommend watching it after watching the finale. It was chilling to me, especially how Amy's face looked on both episodes.

It's an interesting point. The Shamy are indeed struggling with, if not the same, then a related, issue. I agree with koops, Maddie and others that Amy's reaction may be an expression of insecurity about Sheldon's true feelings, and a desire for him to want to be with her. So perhaps in both episodes Amy was saying 'Companionship is awesome, but sometimes I like to feel desired. I want to feel like a truffle, rather than muesli- even if the muesli is organic and hand-picked by a minor Royal.'

And, look, despite everything I've said, I'm a big old romantic, and I think that Amy indeed deserves to have Sheldon unambiguously declare, through word and action, 'I desire you. I want to be with you. I am not saying this just to keep you around, I am saying this because I want to say them and I mean them.' I mean, I think Sheldon's interest is pretty clear, but Amy is inexperienced and insecure, and I welcome the development of Sheldon driving the relationship.

I maintain, though, that the timing and the way the development was engineered were dreadful.

As to Lenny: well, I don't think they were struggling with the same things at all. It would be quite satisfying if they were, but the writers instead pulled this infidelity thing out of their bum-holes and used it in place of an organic, earned bit of conflict.

Maybe is  off-topic, but the references to Friends of the previous posts remind me some interviews that Jim Parsons gave to one of USA Late Shows I watched on Youtube (sorry, I'm not American, so I can't really remember which was neither can't find them right now). The last one was actually a recent one, around Christmas 2014. He was saying that he would like the show to run even further its 10th season as long as the writers menage to write convincing stuff...and as  examples of really not convincing stuff he used some Friends plot, like having a pet monkey or adopting a baby...So, let's hope for no Shamy's babies in the next future...

Jim has expressed his turn-off for babies on big bang more than once, most recently in a interview with All Pinoy News in March:

I would love to see them get married. It’s related to my first answer—they deserve to get married (laughs). They’re well-suited to each other. I can’t imagine it’s happening anytime soon. I pray to God that if they want a child, that it happens once we’re off the air. I don’t want to tug around a Baby Björn for a season of this show. That sounds horrible. I’d rather work with a monkey. No offense.

He seems to be all pro on them to get married though, which he even talked about as late as this friday on the alumni honers in SD.

I don't understand why some people would think Raj and Amy could be a couple or even make a good couple...shrugs.

Amy would chew Raj up and spit him out LOL

So, when should we expect to get our first glimpse at the kiss? I can never remember when promo photos are released. We'll get a video promo this Thursday, right?

Oy, I don't know how I'm going to make it through the next 2 weeks, let alone the hiatus!

Wouldn't it be awesome if after Sheldon proposes to Amy (assuming the whole gang is there and he doesn't propose to her in private) that Sheldon, with Amy in hand, walks over to Howard and Raj and thanks them for signing him up for online dating. "If it weren't for the both of you, I wouldn't be here with Amy..." Amy agrees and thanks them both as well. Howard and Raj are touched by their words and they have a group hug :)

That would be so sweet and adorable.

i asked for someone to write a fan fic about this once....

I am still trying to be okay with the finale... I figure since the lovely ladies who saw it taped are alll 100% okay with it it must be okay. I just really was not expecting a break, and I know it is not a break up but still... They could potentially drag a will they/ won't they type scenario out for an entire season.. I guess it is similar to what Sheldon did to her last season. I worried all summer they would be broken up when he came back and that was fine. I

If they drag it out for the whole season I won't be happy, I expect it may be no more than 2 or 3 episodes and things will have been resolved, not sure my nerves can take a whole season of angst and I like angsty but in small doses

*Checks pulse on motionless horse on floor*

Yep I think we beat this horse to death.

Thank you for sharing your many thoughts on the Shamy relationship. I am still sticking with my original opinion at this point.

Amy did change. Big time. Not fair to Sheldon, perhaps. But he chose to stay and she drug Sheldon along kicking and screaming up Romance Mountain. Along the way, he discovered that it wasn't half bad. However he still is dragging his heels, which makes Amy exhausted. She let go of his hand and starts to trudge ahead alone. This is where the finale left us. Now Sheldon has a choice. Stay halfway up the mountain, join her side by side, head back down to the safety of science and solitude or take her hand and pull her for a while.

this video was uploaded after last years finale but if you pay attention to the lyrics... it totally fits this year as well. DEDICATED TO OUR SHAMY

https://youtu.be/KPaisAN_Zb0

(OH... and the more I think about this turn of events, the more I want Sheldon to say things to Amy that will leave her speechless, breathless and in awe. He could be scientific about it... he can be hippy- dippy about it.... I just want him to leave her without any doubts about how he  truly feels about her and what he really thinks of her in all respects!)

The Amy-Raj and Mayim-others was moved to the Shipping Lanes.  This topic is for Shamy and extended discussions of other combinations or actors really don't belong here.
