Look at the tumblr pic above her post...

I opened this at work.. BAD idea.

If that dramatic article is true.. It could be linked to any couple in the show... Raj and Emily or example.. and dare I say Lenny?

I've read like a couple pages down, that some years, there was an additional scene to what fans had seen at the final tapping of the season.

Could it be the case this year?

If so, what kind of scene? Maybe Lenny and Vegas and that stupid old kiss story ????

Okay, I haven't yet read all the posts in this thread because even though I'm a slacker at work, I can't be a slacker ALL the time...

But I did read a couple of Lio's posts (thanks for acknowledging my copyright!) and I think I have to agree with her assessment of the Shamy Situation.

I think that it is a matter of Amy thinking she's finally making some progress with a big makeout session on their anniversary only to find out that Sheldon still seems to be thinking about anything other than their relationship and that big milestone.

It reminds me of the anniversary with the Spiderman speech, whatever year that was (3rd?)  Sheldon was obligated to take her out and provide some kind of physical interaction that a disinterested 3rd party might mistake for intimacy (or something like that) and he looked for and found a loophole that allowed him to "outsource" his obligations to Raj.

So she's pissed and sends Raj on his way, but she seems to have tried to make the best of it until she gets to where she's trying to flirt with him, telling him he looks like a sexy praying mantis, which he dismisses as her regular alcohol-fueled comment.  But when she says, "Desert is served", obviously wanting him to "devour her" like a praying mantis, he either doesn't get the hint at all ("I just had cobbler") or he's simply not interested.

She got fed up and was ready to leave his butt at the restuarant.  She wanted romance and heart-felt emotions and he was being pragmatic and looking for loopholes.  And even though she accepted his Spiderman speech (and it did seem to be on point...), he's still concerned with splitting the check, etc., not really looking to up the romantic ante.

I see the current situation as somewhat similar, at least from Amy's point of view.  Even though they've made progress, he's still not a romantic person.  He still wants things to be G-rated.  But now, when she thinks she's finally getting something like that sexy praying mantis, making out on their anniversary like a "real" couple (instead of outsourcing), just when she thinks they're in that romantic place, what's on his mind?  Not splitting a restuarant check, but the pros and cons of adding a new TV show to his list.

"POP" (Amy's romance bubble)

Now, being the genius that he is, maybe he's thinking about other things as well, but apparently the thing foremost on his mind is not how sexy his girlfriend is, or how her lips feel or taste, or whether or not he wants to ravage her, or how much he loves her, but whether or not he should start watching The Flash.

I think Lio got the Cloud 9 thing right.  It's easy to take the fall if you're already standing on the ground and simply get your feet knocked out from under you.  But if you feel you're in the stratosphere and THEN fall to earth, well, that hurts so much more.  And for her, maybe the evidence seemed to be piling up (as it has for many viewers) that they/he were making good progress.  He'd finally said ILY, even when she said she didn't want him to say it because of societal pressure or whatever and before she even had a chance to say it first.  He'd admitted that he thought she looked pretty and that he felt pressured to sleep with her because of the whole situation.  He'd enjoyed her date night company so much that he didn't want her to leave, so much so that he agreed to a sleepover, even though it was G-rated.  They'd decided to apply for Mars together (even contemplating having Martian children!)

So, she thinks things are progressing on an upward trajectory only to find that some things seem to never change.  They're making out and he's thinking about superheros and scifi TV.

I think it's reasonable that she would get pissed and that the disappointment of the moment would outweigh anything other progress they seem to have made.  One question is, what conclusion is she going to come to during her time out?  And what will be the manifestation of that conclusion.

I know I don't want her giving him an ultimatum as I agree that it would make you wonder what Sheldon might be doing under duress instead of what he might be doing of his own volition.  I also think that an ultimatum is something that no one would stand for if the shoe were on the other foot.  If Sheldon were to say, "Have sex with me or I'm going to break up with you" people would be pulling out the pitchforks.

I do wonder if the engagement ring is an answer to whether or not Sheldon would want to have sex before marriage.  If he's asking her to marry him, is that his way of saying that he wants to sleep with her, but only after they're married?

Of course, if they do get engaged sometime next season, with the writers wait and have a Shamy wedding before having them sleep together, or will Sheldon be willing because he can't wait any longer (or doesn't want to wait) and will be willing once they're engaged?

I think part of that puzzle has to do with how TPTB want to handle a Lenny wedding vs a Shamy wedding, timing, etc., who gets married first and whether or not they want to explore the Shamy sexual relationship and for how long.

I showed my friend the picture of Sheldon and Amy making out.

She literally SCREAMED in a public place.

Then, I said, hell to it, and I screamed too. And it was the best scream ever.

my husband was a Shamy buzzkill this AM....I showed him the makeout picture and he went "whatever"......signed a girl married to a Penny fan..

as far as the Yahoo article not surprised.  They want to drive viewers to watch.  I'm pretty sure it means Shamy & Lenny.  Wouldn't call Emily/Raj a beloved/long time couple.  But its the shock value.  All we can hope is that our gifted writers come up with something awesome for them early in season 9!!

( sex and the city is on it's millionth rerun here..... right now.

as i turned my head towards the TV... it's the episode when Carrie thinks Big isn't interested in her. she goes over, tries to make out with him on the couch, but he wants to watch the ball game. IS IT BAD that i chuckled just a little????)

THEN.... IT HIT ME.... THE SHAMY  (totally G rated) ARE THE EXACT OPPOSITE CHARACTERS of Carrie  & Big ( totally R rated) , except for the height difference and the fact Carrie had to wait 8!!!! years for him to finally confess that she's the "one" and that he is totally committed to her.

DOES THIS REMIND YOU OF ANYTHING???  :icon_wink:

I hate that that Yahoo article had to go there but its all about ramping up the drama and driving the ratings right? Obviously its marketing sensationalism at its best since we all know Shamy is a ratings cash cow for the network and there's no way they won't put Shamy right next season. Still, given that we have nearly a 100 day hiatus once the episode airs before we start to find out how it plays out....just ugh, why must they create more angst. Its already going to be plenty angsty, no need to pile it on, know what I mean?

seriously its like "plunge in knife and twist"

I'm in the same boat....my husband always perks up when Penny's on screen. He even made a comment about the "frumpy" clothes she's been wearing this season.

Please, rewatch last Simon´s movie!    All last SHAMY and Lenny stuff is mixed there!

Please don´t worry about our beloved SHAMY!

TBBT is a SIT COM, it is not a drama!

SHAMY and Lenny are endgame couples, Lenny since the pilot, SHAMY since 3 x 23 ( and both couples are GOLD for everybody: writers, producers, commercials, audience and... US!)

I am going to sound like a broken record, because I've said this so many times, but, I'm sorry. I honestly, truly do not think Sheldon wanting to propose has *anything* to do with him wanting to wait until marriage to have sex. Penny in this very episode told him "It's been five years and you haven't had sex yet". What did he say? "It's called foreplay!". He didn't say "But, Penny, we aren't married!". Same thing back in S6 when she asked him "Are you ever going to sleep with Amy?". He didn't say "I don't want to have sex before marriage", he explained to her how his issues with physical contact are so crippling for him that it takes him forever to be comfortable with the idea. In Prom, although the question wasn't as direct, he kind of reiterated the same thing: he was open to having sex that night, he has urges, but he still panics because she's looking so pretty and he feels overwhelmed by the pressure. And, ultimately, the writers have never brought up that he is somewhat "old fashioned" when it comes to intercourse and they have, on the other hand, given him plenty of lines to show how he thought it was beneath him, unnecessary and how unsanitary he finds it. Also, with Amy constantly bringing up sex, don't you think Sheldon would have used the marriage card at least ONCE to his advantage to slow down the pressure?

Sheldon has always found it easier to commit on an emotional level than a physical level, and the ring is just further proof of that. If they do end up waiting until after marriage to consummate the relationship it will have nothing to do with his moral or religious views, and everything to do with the pace with which he can overcome his issues, which is slower than the pace with which he embraces his emotions.

I don't think that his only hesitation about sex has to do with marriage.  Besides, if he said, "But we're not married!" that would simply say that the only reason he didn't want to have sex was because of marriage.

That's not what I'm saying at all.  All I'm saying is that if he has finally gotten past his issues and feels that he's ready to take that step, he may still want to be married, or at least engaged, before he takes it.

Besides, "It's a possibilty" and "It's called foreplay" are funnier lines.

Those are the quotes, though. To say that the writers never brought up the marriage issue because it's not as funny is speculatory at best (and why wouldn't lines about Sheldon being old fashioned be funny anyway? He's had plenty of those in the past) and I also don't think it's reflected in the dialogue. The talk he had in 6x14 in particular was meant to be anything but funny. It was a dead serious, mature answer to a very personal question. Same thing in 6x23, just to give another example. In either of those, there is no evidence whatsoever that marriage is what is factoring into Sheldon's decisions when it comes to sex. I actually would say he was ridiculing the idea of getting married far later (7x24) than he stopped ridiculing the idea of sex (6x14, 6x23). I think it's pretty clear from 8 years of watching this character that Sheldon's attitude towards sex has everything to do with his disinterest in the act as well as various phobias. I honestly don't think he was even contemplating marriage at all until after Colonization. It just so happens that emotional and physical go hand in hand for him and that, probably, the closest he feels to Amy emotionally (and, therefore, to life-long commitment), the more he is able to relax and stop worrying and take baby steps into that arena.

Could the writers pull out a line about that now? I'm sure they could. But so far I don't think that's the undertone at all, let alone that it was planned all along.

WHY did you enumerate our hiatus?!?!?!  100 days...................

lol because that's how I deal with waiting. Give me the numbers and the nerd in me is able to relax and put it into an acceptable context.
