[Spoilers]Shamy S8 Thread

So from what it sounds like, they are considering it a "break up" with Shamy rather than just a break. Am I reading that right?

I don't know how I feel about this episode yet. I've only seen it once so far and it just seemed more sad than funny. Can Sheldon really be that clueless and arrogant?

And from the sounds of "What do I do with this?" regarding the ring. What? Is he giving up that fucking easily on their relationship.

Maybe I just need to watch it again but so far, from what I've seen, I'm not really happy.

I got the same impression that Amy broke up with him, and I think Sheldon is taking it that way, too. The way he closed the laptop, the shutter in his facial expression......I thought he was going to cry.

I don't know how they are going to get through this. Sheldon genuinely does not understand what went wrong. I've never scene him look so pained and Amy so depressed.

Ok, so I may have to retract my statement above. My hubby just watched the episode with me again and said they did not break up. He says that Amy wanting to step back and re-evaluate the situation means she is not getting what she wants with the way things are going and needs time to decide if she will conceded and accept it, come at it from a different angle, or end it.

THR writer kept saying break up. Though Steve didn't refute it, he never agreed that it was a break up, and actually said they don't know exactly where they are. But still, he kept saying Sheldon was "fond" of Amy, which okay of course he is, but he's told her he loves her so I would have rather Steve said he loves Amy. The Glamour mag one said takes a step back, and it did seem overall more positive.

All of THIS. Their love is canon...why use "fond of?" What's the angle there? Or is it just careless/poor choice of words?

If you're going to break our hearts AT LEAST acknowledge the intensity of their feelings for each other!

I'm not worried. I like a little angst. Especially if it gives Sheldon impetus to be more affectionate and forthcoming towards Amy. I'm under the impression that the season premiere will pick up where it left off and Lenny will turn around to help Sheldon and Amy in whatever way they can.

From The Hollywood Reporter:  http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/big-bang-theory-sheldon-amy-793742

'Big Bang Theory' Boss on Sheldon and Amy's Bombshell, Leonard and Penny's Big Chill

How does Sheldon and Amy's breakup change the group dynamic? She's close with everyone, especially Penny.

That's what we're excited to find out. It ripples through a lot of relationships and how they both handle this and what happens moving forward is what we're so excited to jump in on season nine with.

I hope this doesn't mean the pause in their relationship will last longer than 1-2 episodes.

Great acting from Jim and Mayim, especially with the gestures and facial expressions. You can really feel their love and how each is hurting over this misunderstanding. This is gonna be an extremely long summer!

Just finished watching the episode, and my mind is still spinning, even though I knew what to expect. I was ready to cry with both Sheldon and Amy -- Jim and Mayim did beautiful work here.

I feel Sheldon has finally gotten his due for leaving on the train a year ago.  And I still wanted to cry for him.

All will work out in the end, but I hope not too quickly. Sheldon and Amy have some growing left to do, especially in communicating with one another.

BTW: my unspoiled (and often unobservant husband) caught the Gollum figure on the desk and said, "Oh, crap, he's got a ring." WTH?!  :icon_rolleyes:

I feel like after Amy ended the conversation she probably cried herself to sleep. :icon_cry:  So sad! I also feel like Sheldon looked as if he was about to cry at the end.

Only seen it once, but I honestly did not enjoy the episode at all until that very last scene. I felt like the editing was truly horrible and the whole mood of the episode was off. Like people were bitter and dark and gloomy out of nowhere and like things were exaggerated in not so subtle ways. WTF was going on with the editing during the H/B/S and R/E scenes?! I get that they were trying to draw the parallels between a couple about to break up and H/B about to "break up" with Stuart, but it really seemed to be edited together by a high schooler with iMovie. Don't get me started on Leonard because... ugh. Poor Penny.

Anyway, regarding Shamy... I am surprised people are taking this as a breakup. I thought it was even clearer in the scene, compared to the report, that it is not a breakup. Amy clearly said she needs to take a step back to evaluate the "situation", not even the relationship. And she's obviously upset and I'm sure a "breakup" is part of the things she's considering, but it was clear to me THIS isn't a breakup. And I don't think Sheldon is taking it as one, as just being shellshocked and blindsided by it, and I really think his line with regards to the ring ("What do I do with this now?") is more just a line to accompany the big reveal that he has a ring than anything else. Or at most an indication that he was planning to propose *very* soon and now with her step back he's not sure what's going on.

I also don't think Steve is claiming this is a breakup. He's not denying it because otherwise that kind of spoils the point of his precious cliffhanger. But from all other hints he's giving, I doubt it.

I can't help, though, to wonder if this was really necessary. Yes, they got their big cliffhanger that's going to make people talk all summer and I guess that's what they want. But I do feel like it's an awful lot of drama for something that maybe Shamy weren't in that dire need of (the engagement). I felt like they wrote the episode around the cliffhangers, really, more than the cliffhangers around the season.

Everything about this post is spot on.

I think that a proposal wont happen until late s9 at the earliest

And now that Amy wants to evaluate the situation of the relationship, its gonna be Sheldon that has to wait for her but I hope they talk openly and not hide their true feelings and we see that conversation

They could do this in a couple of eps...we don't need to see half a season of group dynamic changes to explore that territory.

From the interview it sounds like this is going to last for more than just one episode. They want to explore how relationships shift and how people react going forward? This sounds like a priya arc without a priya.
