I totally agree with you Koops. Lenny´s problem is a betrayal of confidence imo. When Penny and Leonard met, Penny had just broken up with her boyfriend, which she loved very much. She was dating one guy after another, always hoping ti meet the right guy, who was able to love her. But as she was dating facile type, which was mostly interested in sex, so they all disappointed her. Then she met Leonard, which was not her type first, but while time was passing by, she got to know him better, dated him and finally fall in love with him, because she was sure he was the right one and would never hurt her like the others did. But now, that he betrayed her too, I think it will take time before she can forgive him. So I don´t think that she wil marry him in Vegas. First Leonard will have to fight for his trust. It will be interesting how the group will react to the Lenny and Shamy issues, if they decide to be on one´s side or if they decide to be neutral and which constellation of groups will develop out of ths situation. I hope we don´t get to see the typical girl´s group/ boy´s group constellation. At least Sheldon will try to keep in contact with Penny, as he did when Lenny broke up for the first time.

I would like to see a Penny/Amy, Mary/Amy, Howard/Amy interaction, to help Amy deal with the Shamy break. I would also like to see all of the boys or even Sheldon/Bernadette helping Sheldon with the break. It would be refreshing to see a mix of different characters next season.

I don´t want to think of any couple mixtures, especially a Shenny make out. This always reminds me of Amy´s Shenny fantasy, which makes me want to throw up.

The writers won´t be this sadist, will they? :icon_cry:

I don´t think that they are risking their loyal viewers, for some bad taste jokes. Otherwise the crowd wil hunt them with pitchforks! :icon_twisted:

I just don't think a Shenny romantic pairing is going to happen. Shenny friendship will always be around, and that's a good thing. The writers can leave all that drama for shows like The Vampire Diaries or Gossip Girl, where just about every character has been with another person in their circle of friends...eww!

I can safely say if there was ever a shenny make out then I would never watch the show again, I am 99% sure it would never happen though

I had a series of crazy dreams last night (I guess you really do have bad dreams when you eat too much candy before bed) and one of them was of Shamy. I dreamed that Sheldon and Amy where really making out in his bed and he was about to take off his shirt, then cut to the next day when Howard, Raj and Leonard are sitting in Shelnard's living room and on the coffee table was a book about sex and condoms. Howard says that now that Sheldon's hormones are racing it's time they had a talk about the birds and the bees. Flash forward, he's at Amy's apartment door wearing the same attire he wore when cleaned Penny's apartment and found the "chew toy." Amy's dressed in a nice dress, but not a typical Amy dress. He has flowers in his had and Amy's smiling sweetly and then I get woken up by my boyfriend. I was like, NOOOOOOOO!!! He was like, well good morning to you too, lol. I felt bad, but I really wanted to know what was going to happen next. Maybe part II tonight, although I doubt it. I never having reoccurring dreams.

To be honest, I highly doubt that this drama is going to end up with a shenny make out or any of that kind of bull crap, they don't and never will see each other like that (as shown in the intimacy accelerant) becides, Sheldon has a ring for god sakes!

Here's why Shenny will never happen 8 years in......MONEY!

First of all, this show is a COMEDY, not a drama.

Second, they have too much time and money invested in the Lenny and Shamy ships and only two (possibly three) more seasons to work with. If they suddenly decided to go with Shenny, there's too much development and character changes they'd have to do for it to make sense and not enough time to do it in. And even then, after everything that's been done and said in the last 8 years, it still probably wouldn't make sense to even the casual viewer.

Third, a lot of fans would not only stop watching the new episodes, they'd also stop watching the re-runs, knowing where it will end up going and not enjoy the story anymore. And THAT would cause them to lose A LOT of money.

Not sure if it's possible but if I were them I'd certainly see if it was. The main three have a stake in those sendicated shows. If viewers stopped watching because they suddenly went with Shenny, I'm sure Johnny, Kaley, and Jim would have a problem with it also. They'd lose money too from the stupidity of the writers and could probably sue for money lost. Or at least try. I know I would if my boss made a bone headed decision that affected my future payments.

I don´t see any Shenny romance either, because the writers ship Shamy as much as we do!

It would be great to see Howard and Amy at a Neal Diamond concert or Raj and Amy drinking wine mocking about their relationships, or Leonard and Sheldon consoling each other or a Sheldon/Howard constellation or Amy/Mary or Amy/Emily (an outside view from Emily could console Amy too, they had so much in common, but we have never seen them again together).

But above all, I´m waiting for a Shamy happy end, even thinking of it, makes me cry happily! :tender:

I actually don't think the reason the show isn't going Shenny has anything to do with money, if anything is the opposite: hooking up your two, good-looking, popular leads, or at least building romantic tension around them is an automatic cash cow. The wonderful thing about this show and these writers is that not only they didn't sell out for that idea, but they managed to build two other relationships with other people for their two popular leads that attract an awful lot of support and fans, while still maintaining the dynamic between Sheldon and Penny that makes Sheldon and Penny popular. I don't think that's an easy feat for tv writers at all, and I think the temptation to fall into a predictable and easy pattern is strong, and yet they resisted it and instead build a strong story nonetheless (and, yes, made tons of money off of it). I can complain a lot about the writers, but that's the one thing, amongst others, that always makes me tip my hat off to them.

Ok, let me rephrase that. I'm not talking about the size of their shipper following *now*, which has shrunk to pretty small numbers, I'm talking more about why they never went there in the first place. Now, putting aside for a moment the longer debate about how much you need to change the characters in order to make them believable as a couple, back when the Shenny fever was really high was... what, S2, 3? At the time the show was young enough that there was a lot of wiggle-room to change the characters in order to write it in (or started to write it, and the overaching plot would have been "will Penny choose Leonard or Sheldon in the end?"), if they had wanted to. And it's undeniable that back then Sheldon and Penny and their interactions were a big cash cow for the show. Yet, despite the pressure (because, boy, they had pressure), and despite the fact that it's a pretty standard move to get the two most popular characters together (especially with the whole "opposite attract" trope going on) they not only resisted that, but brought in a girl/friend specifically for Sheldon. I think right now (and, really, it's been the case for a long time now), romantic Shenny would be the jump-the-shark moment. But back then, it was a viable possibility and one the writers could have gone for if they wanted to. But they didn't. That's what I mean when I say they get all my respect, because instead of going for a overused tv formula, they stuck to their guns, knew what they were doing, knew what was working for them, and proved that you can indeed create new characters and new dynamics to make a show an even bigger financial success than doing what everyone else does. It's much easier to write a character in a relationship with a character that's already there and give fans what they want, than it is to create a whole new character and subsequent dynamic out of thin air. Not many shows do that.

I just want to say, also, that I totally agree 100% that the dynamic between them was never romantic and that their chemistry is comedic and that you would have to change the characters so much to make it work that not only it would take away a lot of what's unique about them but also about their dynamic. I don' think the show would have been anywhere near as good anymore if they had gone there. I'm just saying that other writers might have gone there, because it's an easy and predictable option. The opposite attracts, the hot blonde with the nerd, the love triangle between two best friends and their conquest, the sexually experienced one and the virginal innocent one... Can you list any more predictable tropes? You see them all the time on shows that make a lot of money. So I'm not sure I'd say TBBT didn't go there because of money at the time, but because they stuck to way they wanted to write it.

It would be way against Amy's character to start dating around too when she's clearly still in love with Sheldon, and has not told him it's over. And think about what that would do to HIM. Something like that would break him completely, and I don't know if he'd recover at this point.

I completely agree. For Amy to even consider dating anyone else at this point would negate her love and investment in Sheldon. It would completely tear Sheldon apart and anger ShAmy fans to no end. Whatever his faults are, he has invested (5) years in opening his shell for this woman. Amy knows this and would never consider betraying that.

This it what makes ShAmy so solid even when they appear on seemingly rocky foundation. They might be hurting. They might be apart for awhile, but they will remain loyal to each other while waiting for it all to work out.

I agree (mostly) but the whole concept of the show revolves around Sheldon & Leonard and their friendship. Even in the first unaired pilot.

The first pilot of this BBT even said then, Shenny would not be. Yeah, I know a lot of people (Shennies) say he flirted with her at the white board but I didn't see it as flirting. I saw it as him being shy around a person he didn't know and was outgoing. In the tag of that pilot, he even says in the car that out of the four of them, Leonard is the only one who has a shot with her. Howard being too creepy, Raj can't even talk to her, and Sheldon himself isn't interested.

"I don't know what your odds are in the world as a whole, but as far as the population of this car goes, you're a veritable Mack Daddy." And then you see Leonards giant smile.

Do you really think the show would've even survived if Sheldon had gone after Penny knowing how Leonard felt about her in the beginning? How could that friendship continue? I don't think it was pressure at all. These writers had a story to tell and Shenny didn't fit into it. The way they wrote these characters from the very beginning. It NEVER would've made sense. It would've destroyed the Shelnard friendship and the whole premise of the show. Money. Pure and simple.

But I got a feeling, we'll never see eye to eye on this topic.

Sounds to me that you and Koops do see eye to eye in this regard.   She basically said the same thing...that the writers had a story THEY wanted to tell and it was not including Shenny as a romantic couple, even though fans were pressuring for it in early seasons.   And yes there was a lot of pressure to match Shenny back then.   But the writers knew what they wanted to tell and they made the right decision and didn't cave to popular fan opinion at the time.

From what I read of your post, you too are saying the same thing...that the writers had a story to tell and went with it, never establishing Shenny as a couple.   We all know and agree to this.

It doesn't get better than Amy...He has the best already!  He knows it.  If he wanted anyone else he would have gone for it but didn't because he was never interested before her.  :icon_wink:

I've been trying to think about how Sheldon would handle this huge loss (even if it's just temporary, it's still a loss).  Previously, when he has gotten upset, he has gone off the deep end and 1) Mary has had to come get him back to sanity, 2) Sheldon has run home to Mary, or 3) Sheldon has run, period.  Now I think he has grown and should be able to handle his grief in a more mature way.  On the other hand, wouldn't this be a good time for Meemaw to comfort and advise her Moon Pie?

well... after watching the cold open in really slow motion... the kiss is closed mouth. the difference being... they are sitting and TOUCHING.

this break/break up is going to give us A REAL KISS.  :brunette:

their love story is going to "mature" next season BIG time ... it's the last frontier. ( i'm not referring to sex)

Mary has come in 4 x 3 to fix SHAMY" friendship" but I M O, this may be time for  Meemaw. She has been in touch with Amy and I think the Christmas cookies stuff was not the first time (and/or  the last) they were connected. :secret:

It is a big posibility we´ll get some shennies scenes, but in a very sibling way (the only way shenny is, as the writers have settled it). Penny is the biggest SHAMY fan!  :imsohappy:

So much interesting discussion to catch up on!

I believe (hope?) that they won't go the cliched romcom/soap opera route of 'Sheldon and Amy break up, Amy dates around, Sheldon throws a jealous fit and/or dates around himself in retaliation/ultimately grovels to his wumman to get her back'. I mean, yikes. We've already seen a jealous Sheldon. It was entertaining, but I believe the point has been made. And for the sad, defeated-looking Amy in the tag scene to throw herself into Bridget-Jones-esque scenes would look so grotesquely out of character that- lord, I don't even know.

Could they break up? I don't think so, somehow. If this season's opener was any indication, they'll patch up Sheldon and Amy in the first episode or thereabouts. And- as loudly as i exclaimed 'WTF?!? Where is this coming from?!?' when they took a break, I'll be annoyed as hell if they get back together with a quip and, like, a 'Bazinga!' from Amy, with nary an attempt at an actual conversation.

But I sincerely, sincerely hope that they won't do that. As jarring as all the heaviness in this finale was, I was impressed that the show was willing to go so sombre and so quiet for so long. I hope that they recognise that they've steered their characters- especially Lenny and Shamy- into territory that needs communication and an actual attempt at resolution.

Then again, I looked at the S7 finale and said 'Surely there's going to be major fallout from this!', and- well.....

Where is the cold scene in slow motion, please?????

I don´t think we´ll see a REALLY SHAMY open mouth kiss, a hot one

Lenny hot open mouth kiss (the lime kiss) was taped when they were dating in real life. It was REALLY a hot kiss!

But, Who knows.....?????
