[Spoilers]Leonard And Penny Season 8 Thread

It probably won't happen because they are such a low key couple but if they had an engagement party there would be a chance to bring in friends of BOTH Leonard and Penny ( if they exist) from outside the group of 7/9 ( if you count Emily and Stuart). Sort of a homage to the S1 Halloween and Leonard's Birthday parties and all those friends that turned up never to be seen again. The girls who haven't seen Leonard since his "hobbit" days could show interest in the new improved Leonard with biceps and cop Penny's best hands off my man look. Alternatively a David Underhill type from the North Sea trip could perv at the Serial Apeist star - does Penny or Leonard tell the guy to back off?

Well any guy who perves a chick at her engagement party considering how that select couple live in such close proximity, lacks no class at all lol. I mean at least the original David Underhill asked Leonard "Are you hitting that?". I remember at Leonard's birthday party in S2, the one where Leonard was not present haha, they had a lot of friend their too, when Penny showed it to Leonard on an iPhone. So bring some friend's back from the Football Episode, S1 Halloween, S2 Leonard's Birthday Party, Leonard's friend's from the ship. Even those girls who went out with Penny, well maybe not them specifically the actresses haha maybe bit of a stretch, but other actresses playing the role. Considering Leonard and Penny were less of a focus last season, and Shamy were the forefront of the show, it would be nice if S8 began not just Leonard and Penny, but maybe Howard and Bernadette get's a big storyline too. So S8 starts with L/P engagement party, Howard and Bernadette show up, Sheldon returns to a busy apartment, and can't get to Leonard and Penny as they are mingling, so he start's bugging Howard and Bernadette. These kinda parties well happen more though, since S6 when Leonard and Penny hosted a dinner party, far cry from when Leonard dressed like a hobbit at parties.

It would be funny if they had the engagement party at the Cheesecake Factory, maybe Penny's ex-work friends throwing it, and Kurt crashed it leading to another Kurt and Leonard confrontation, only this time Leonard has people like Zack having his back and drive Kurt off in defeat.

what is more likely is that they will TRY to have an engagement party but I don't know, Raj will instead announce that he and Emily2 have had sex for the 10th time so he is buying drinks and everyone will go awwww and go for those drinks. Leonard will also show Penny his extraordinary ability not to be served at the bar.

I could see Penny taking Leonard to hang out with her friends, and hopefully he does not act like Einstein like " super smart guy" where he becomes silly. But I think he still has to overcome his insecurity regarding jealousy.  And I m sure Penny will make sure not to make her man feel jealous, all the other guys will be really jealous of Leonard.

SRAM, that would be awesome and funny if Leonard had an encounter and puts a guy in  his place because he hit on Penny.  I want to see Leonard pull off some kind of " Godfather " move,  the verbal kind where the guy gets totally scared and Leonard does not even put a finger on the guy.  Something like the gang is at a restaurant and some guy(s) makes fun of Leonard; so Leonard uses some Godfather mannerisms, employing Sheldon as the enforcer, having Sheldon acting crazy.  Kind of bring the " bad boy " side of Leonard.  Nahh, I think Penny would get mad at Leonard if he acted in such a way.

Funny people always go on about Leonard being jealous of other guys hitting on Penny, seeing their is no evidence this has ever occurred. Of course it is all perception, I mean a pretty girl like Penny, a nerdy guy like Leonard, Zac's comment about "She dated you" I feel struck a chord with Leonard. He has this insecurity, that he really need's to get over, because their is no basis for it. Yes it is true past behaviour predates future behaviour, but Penny has clearly made changes to her life that she needed, people always going on about her "type" or this persons type, but I feel Penny dated guy's because she liked their personality, looks were never a big decisive factor, I mean she did choose to date Stuart for a couple of episodes. I just think Leonard has this idea in his head, that he is not good enough for Penny, but their is more evidence to suggest even from the pilot Penny is not good enough for Leonard. The whole premise since the pilot, has been socialy awkward egghead desiring hot girl, hot girl who dates dumb guys, or falls hard for rich guys, and has never even considered dating a guy like Leonard, I mean in S1 finalie it was a foreign concept, so clearly they have come a long way since then. But that has all changed now, we have seen Penny's insecurities come to the surface now, it has been interesting as now we are seeing Penny be the insecure one in the relationship, and start doubting herself. So it is not really about trusting Penny, or worried about other guys (what other guys?), it is about trusting himself to not let his insecurities creep into his head.

I think the writers have written insecurities into both the characters to make them both vulnerable to each other, Leonard's being a notion he is not as manly as other guys and Penny not being smart enough to keep Leonard. Those insecurities are used to keep them apart, even if the other character doesn't see those perceived faults. They are cute because they are both so innocent to real love and fumble around each other sometimes even though they both are crushing on each other most of the time.

Good to way to state it SRAM. I was watching the episode when Leonard learns football so he can mingle with Penny's friends; Lenny are so lovable with each other, even though they are a more mature couple now onto S8; they always have an innocence about each other, makes them endearing.

You watch S1 L/P always had an honesty about them that prefaced their innocence. Penny organising a bday party for Leonard, Penny telling Leonard after hurting his feelings "It's what you love that make's you who you are". Leonard going to Kurt and the only one of the guys showing the nerve to confront Kurt, even if it meant Penny getting back together with Kurt, Leonard was in it for the long run. All these were markers in place, with their beta version relationship to mature, and enter a requited relationship. I would like an episode in S8 similar to Lime Kiss Scene tho, yes they have matured and have entered endgame phase pretty early in the shows run, but they are still relatively young their is no reason, they cannot have passion too.

There is a lot of passion when two people get engaged so maybe we will that from Leonard and Penny when the season starts. It was sort of sad how their engagement became such a little thing in the last episode, I would really like maybe even a party for them when the season starts, they don't need Sheldon there, he doesn't like parties anyway. They should be in the honeymoon phase of their engagement and should be sickenly sweet to each other, that alone should be funny.

Maybe just me but I always felt a huge part of the premise was L/P getting engaged, I always invisoned to be this massive moment. So although it was very Lenny in how they got engaged, it was small maybe diminished but intimate. I agree they deserves some big party. So be cool when the season starts the first scene is 2 months after Sheldon's departure, and Lenny are having an engagement party, everyone from their past returns, Leonard's friends from the university, from the boat. Penny's friends she used to go out with in S1, Football Friends, maybe the cast of Serial Apist haha, be kinda cool.

I really like your idea of the engagement party and who comes, they could also have it at the Cheesecake Factory or maybe they get to use a place at the university. The whole thing could write itself into an episode: Penny feels bad that their friends don't seem to think much about her and Leonard getting engaged, which really does disappoint her; Leonard starts feeling bad because Penny is in the dumps and all he wants to do is make her happy so he tries some things (funny things) with no success; finally their friends see what is happening and feel bad because they know they were not being good friends, so they throw them a kick ass surprise engagement party with all the people you said being there. The story line writes itself.

During summer, Leonard took dancing lessons and now as a couple he takes her to a romantic retreat, I m sure Penny would love that.  Yeah, I agree their engagement was low key, after all Lenny are the center of TBBT.  Raj's sex romp thing just destroyed it, shame to the writers.

I would love to see Leonard convincing Penny to go a Star Trek convention dressed a character, perhaps as Troi or Seven of Nine.  Nah, I cant see her doing that, It would be hilarious.  Penny seems to enjoy most of the nerdy things Leonard likes but is not participatory on them; the wonder woman outfit was a rarity; to this day it is one of my favorite Penny moments. Unintentionally not to delve into a Howardette comment; but on the last episode Bernie said she wants to go to Hawaii, so I could see Lenny going with them.  Leonard taking Penny to the telescope at Mount Haleakala and show her the stars.

I'm sure not everyone will agree with me, but Penny did promise a proposal that was to be 'the whole nine yards' Antonio Santos's post just got me thinking it would be cute if she got dressed as a Star Trek character and called upon her acting skills to surprise Leonard with a second proposal. In my mind it would happen close to the time of the wedding, maybe even the night before. I'm not a big Star Trek fan so my knowledge is very limited, but I reckon the writers could come up with a cool episode title, something along the lines of The Final Frontier Reaction? I'm sure the Star Trek fans among us could come up with much better! Anyway just a thought!

You know it could go a little like the Bakersfield episode, the guys going to a convention and the girls at Penny's before hand talking about what they see in doing that. Penny could decide to do it for Leonard because she doesn't do romantic well and she wants to do something for him, now that they are engaged. Of course the other girls are told they have to go because she is going to dress up like a nerd, they have to, too. It could be so funny if the girls went and every guy in the place hit on them making the guys sorry they ever wanted them come.

FYI Penny never promised a whole nine yards proposal, Leonard was the one who demanded one haha, Penny agreed. I think their engagement was really intimate and them, albeit a bit anti climatic. Obviousley early on the engagement was going to be such a massive moment and I think it still was, but just devalued some what particularly in the finalie, when some of the gloss of it was diminished with their friends more concerned about what was going on in their lifes. I do feel though because of Penny maturing and no longer "Stranger in Toon Town" or "Anti-Geek" mostly. She is now fully integrated into the group, so it is now a show about cohesion opposed, to collision in the early years. Penny is now 28 revevaluating her life choices and has realized Leonard is her equal. The version of their relationship may be more grown up, from the two kids back in S3 who were a bumbling mess haha, but were innocent in what they were doing because neither had a clue what they were doing, that's the charm of their relationship, two people who are so different but also in some ways a very similar, you know differences go to the bone, but their sames go skin deep. I like the idea too of an engagement for Leonard and Penny at the beginning of S8, maybe the beginning of S8 see Penny walk into the Cheesecake Factory, to a few awkward accounters haha, but they have it their or at 4A.

I loved the whole proposal that we were given! The sudden, amazing revelation on Penny's part and the wonderful, quotable banter that led us right to the heart of it. The 'So is that it? Are we engaged?' with Penny's puzzled response 'Yeah. I think so' were all so perfectly very, very Lenny. And it was very anticlimactic. But then, The Romance Ninja steps up! The hidden ring, kept for years, as The Romance Ninja just waits for that perfect moment in time to make the object of his desire and the great love of his life, to ask her to be his and his only. No unsure hesitancy, nothing ambiguous to leave room for further doubt. The question, 'Penny. Will you marry me?' was responded to with a glorious beaming smile and an absolutely heart-melting and sincere 'Yes!' (Sobbing! Sobbing! Sobbing!) Beautifully done and well worth the wait and the heart-stabbing moments that TPTB gave us.

But ...

Personally, I would have loved for Leonard to say something like, 'Penny. I always have and will always love you beyond all measure. Will you marry me?' Would have adored to have the word 'love' somewhere in the proposal. But that is just a personal choice.

BUT ... BUT ...

There was a kind of a canon reference that TPTB missed in that proposal and one that I would have LOVED to see. Because all of the Lenny significant moments in their history took place in the hallway, I think it would have been doubly wonderful if Leonard pulled Penny into the hallway, got down on one knee and proposed there. Its always been Leonard, Penny, in the hallway. Aside from the heart-stabbing break-up in the bowling alley (fie! fie! on ye demon Wheaton!) the proposal was the only sentinel moment they had that wasn't in it.

I reckon they might end up marrying in the hallway after a last minute disaster with the wedding venue...

I loved the whole proposal too! It was sweet, silly, romantic and believable like Leonard and Penny are. I had absolutely no doubt about how much they love each other. (I also loved the way you described it. You write so beautifully!)

I'm ok with the proposal being at Penny's place because that's where Leonard told her in S 6 that if she wanted to get married, she would have to propose to him. So, over 2 years later it came full circle in front of Penny's couch and the Romance Ninja worked his magic again.

I watch it every few day to get my Lenny fix and never tire of it. Can't wait for their life together to continue in S 8.

Thanks for a great post, 5 Mississippis.

5Mississippis and Strawberry Pop Tart Fan, i love your posts. The engagement and " you know I m the one with, you know I love you " are my favorite episodes of all time.  Cannot wait for the next three seasons for more Lenny.  All of us Lenny's fans had to wait seven long years for Penny to say yes to Leonard in marriage, but it was worth the wait in gold.

Have we ever had scenes of her sitting in his lap and cuddling? I would like to see a scene of them both in Leonard's chair, with her in his lap, snuggling up to him. Since they are engaged they should be doing cut little things like that.

I would expect Penny to be a little more interested in Leonard's day to day life too, to the point of even being a little protective of him. There should be more scenes of Sheldon facing Leonard and Penny, instead of just Leonard, in disputes. Season 8 should start with them in the honeymoon phase of being engaged, so the should be sickenly sweet to each other, which could be very funny, with their friends making jokes about them.
