hamerman55
I think it makes sense that they would change up Penny's hair. Girls often do that when they are feeling pretty good about their relationship, or if they just want a change. In some ways, it makes less sense that she would have kept the same hairstyle forever. All one has to do is look at the first season, and the most recent. She's willing to change things around a bit. It would be more drastic if she changed the color. It will be very interesting to see the calls the writers make for what happened over the summer. As many have mentioned, the length of time passing over the summer can have a big influence on the direction of things. Second, both Penny and Leonard were open-ended about when they would change their living situation. Both said that they would move in together at some point relatively soon, but not like tomorrow or anything. Leonard telling Sheldon struck me as more just giving Sheldon the maximum amount of time to come to terms with the fact that things would change. Sheldon freaked out simply because Leonard did make it clear that they would be together without Sheldon. My sense is that there is nothing really pushing the formal residence change. Sheldon's absence, if at all extended, would actually catalyze a de facto change as Penny and Leonard would gravitate toward spending all their time in the larger apartment. The whole point of moving in together was to make a life together sans Sheldon. If he is gone for a while, they will start on that a lot quicker, and in 4A. I wonder if that suggests a direction. Bringing Sheldon back quickly prevents anything from change significantly. If he's gone for months, then Leonard and Penny will work out their own deal without his input. My vote is that Sheldon will be back very quickly so that the writers can avoid dealing with Leonard and Penny moving in together over the hiatus. Bringing Sheldon back maintains more of the status quo. It also lets them deal with the future changes with Sheldon whining and apposing any changes. I sense a subtle change in the power structure in 4A over the past few seasons. Basically ever since Leonard threatened to move out in "The Spoiler Alert Segmentation". Leonard has stood up to Sheldon more, and Sheldon has dominated things less. Now, Leonard IS going to leave soon, and Sheldon has no hold on him. In fact, it he is too much of a pain, Leonard will move sooner. This is likely one of the things driving Sheldon crazy. The one who can walk away controls the deal. Tonstar17
I think the living arrangement is going to be dragged out for a while with no changes for now, the writers are going to compensate by showing them spend more alone time & sleep overs between apartments. I just hope we get to see lenny do more things together without sheldon, as he trys to fix his relationship with Amy. 3ku11
Yeah i think her hair length well be the closest to S 1-2. Perky early Penny and Grown Up Serious Penny, best of both worlds .
Tonstar17
Penny will look amazing no matter what. Short, long. It's all good. Love the long hair tho. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
cAntonio Santos
I agree, the living arrangements will stay status quo for the time being, I can see more focus being given to Penny being a pharmaceutical sells rep and the Raj and Emily relationship. Sorry did not meant to dip into Rajmily discussion.
3ku11
The S7 final airs this Wednesday in NZ. Seeing the line from Bernadette "Oh you guys propose all the time, this almost never happens". Have the writers forgotten that Raj has had coitus before? He is not some petiulant teenager. And the fact the proposal since the pilot was going to be the biggest milestone in the shows history. Yet they devalued it, and made light of it, and it was really anti climatic in the final. So I am kinda not surprised Penny was less then interested in Amy and her friends issues. So before living arrangements e.t.c. I would like if Penny and Leonard has an engagement party, and not invite any of their friends haha kiddin. SRAM
Raj was shown to be the first of the guys to have sex when he took that girl home from Penny's Halloween party, so I agree they devalued Penny and Leonard's engagement for that stupid joke. I so want them to get a kicking engagement party, they are the longest running couple of the group, their friends should stand up and surprise the hell out of them. I so want them to get a kicking engagement party, they are the longest running couple of the group, their friends should stand up and surprise the hell out of them. Considering how Leonard and Penny have both been their for the key milestones or make it or break it moments in their friend's relationship's. And in those key milestones I don't recall the writers using it for a throw away line or joke. Howard and Bernadette getting engaged (Penny even wasent their for the respect of her friends, and Leonards relationship with Priya). Penny's endorsement of the Shamy relationship. Penny although encouraged Amy to break up with Sheldon, came from a good place, seeing Amy was unhappy. Penny helping Sheldon out to make it up to Amy, and to prove he does care for her. With the tiara. Howard's speech to Bernadette about being a changed man, their was no stupid joke to ruin it, just Penny touched. Wasen't for Leonard their would be no Howard or Raj, so their would be no Penny, so then no Bernadette then no Howard and Bernadette. I just think over the course of time in this show with the key milestones for the characters or the relationships, looking back I cannot remember it being used for some stupid joke, if their was it just added to the moment. For me that stupid joke, was not only the joke, but how it distracted from a key milestone in the show, was insensitive and uneccssary. May be reading too much into it, but personally I would like their Friends too actually realize that was poor form or the writers, and plan a big surprise party, Leonard and Penny have done so much for them, not that they haven't too but more so Leonard or Penny it would be great too start off S8, opposed to doom and gloom what is Sheldon going to do show it has been recently. 3ku11
From Bernadette's point of view, she was right. The last woman (not counting Penny) that Raj possible had sex with was Abby, back in The Psychic Vortex in 3.12. Bernadette may not have known about her and Howard and Bernadette broke up soon after. So from her point of view, that (Raj sleeping with a woman) hardly ever happened. Oh yeah sure techniquley she was correct, I just felt it was out of place that is just me though. I hope they do as a new start to the story in season 8. It's in character. They threw a party for Leonard when he left for North Sea. They all gathered for Penny's big ill fated NCIS appearance and all got together for the rocket launch, as well as other parties and dinners they have done so it's not like it's something that the writers don't think of. They deserve something. Edited August 5, 2014 by Itwasdestined

Any other thoughts?.. Yeah i like that idea, S8 begins with sequences of Seeing Lenny over the Summer nesting. Then S8 begins with Engagement party on top of the roof. Most likely tho it well be Sheldon centric haha.
hamerman55
I too agree that they made too big a deal of Raj having sex over Lenny getting actually engaged. First, Lenny have never been engaged. There have been unsuccessful proposals, but they never actually closed the deal. Second, it is out of character for girls in general to value a single night of sex by anyone over a engagement announcement. In a real world situation, the girls would have said "that's nice" then gone back to gushing over Penny's ring. Let's face it, Raj and Emily had been dating for a while. Having sex was a normal thing to happen. It was nice, but not earth shaking. Even Raj pointed out that his news was big, but not in the same league as Lenny's engagement. He had the right of it. Penny and Leonard getting engaged was the biggest news of the whole show. The only thing bigger would be Sheldon and Amy having sex. Raj has done OK in the sex department. So choosing to use the engagement as as a set up for a joke, and decide to focus on Raj getting laid haha was just really out of place.
Nogravitasatall
I wondered about that. They pulled their punches on the engagement so that they could go in hard with the faux dire, but still intriguing, cliffhanger. I'm hoping for a punchy upbeat kickoff for S8 and team Hofstadter. This should contrast with the other guy, who may well still be in the pet kennel. But mostly I want novelty and funniness.
Tonstar17
I actually hated the way the writers played out the announcement scene. Yes I get it, it was done for laughs but the thing is, it was only funny the once and when you watch it again & again. You realised how pathetic it was and not funny as you though. If they had switched it around and had raj say his news first and then Lenny's news and everyone congratulates lenny, now that would have been funny and also sweet and I probably would have been fine with that take. But NO.... always the button of the jokes lenny, and I am sick of it. What also pissed me off as well, was the fact that the scene made it impossible to see their friends congratulate them on their engagement and we missed out on what could have been a very sweet & touching moment. Tonstar17
I don't think announcing the news the other way around would have been funny. I do understand your feelings (and others) about the sweet and touching moment but the Lenny relationship has never been that way. I think Raj saying he had sex with Emily could have been done better. Maybe he had sex with Emily while sober may have sounded better. I don't know. I think part of the scene at the end when Lenny were standing alone was an acknowledgment by Penny that their engagement should have happened a lot sooner. I always thought the Valentine's episode season 6 Penny could have proposed. If they had announced the engagement in the next episode it would have been funny and sweet considering Howard/Bernadette saw their fight at the restaurant. I don't think penny was ready to get engaged in the valentine episode, it would have felt like she was only doing it because her ex friend and ex boyfriend got engaged. Also penny wasn't ready in S6 she was only coming to terms with her feeling for Leonard as they were all over the place at the time. She needed time to get to the same place as Leonard IMO. It would have been nice to see the gang celebrating Lenny's engagement tho, as they have come a long way to get where they are at now. Not going to comment on Raj & Emily as this is a Leonard & Penny thread. The scene with Lenny at the end holding hand was beautifully done. Tensor
Raj-Emily scenarios belong in the Raj-Whoever thread. Talk about Leonard and Penny, not about other characters. Mentioning others is fine , don't analyze the other characters or plot points involving other characters. I've moved several posts.
TBBT78
I agree that the Lenny engagement announcement was spoilt somewhat by Raj's announcement about Emily, that could have been said in a later scene or left out entirely.
SRAM
If Penny was a real person, I would feel sorry for her. She didn't get to see her two friends proposal (Howard & Bernadette) and when she gets engaged (A big thing in every woman's life) none of her friends seem to care that much. Add the career disappointments, her car dying and you can see the writers have really made season 7 hell for her. So the spoiler for her new job, I hope, sets a new tone on how they are going to treat her character in season 8 and maybe some Lenny happiness for a while. While I agree that Raj's statement stomped all over Lenny's engagement announcement, I don't think he did it on purpose. I've thought about this, and the only way they could have done justice to Lenny was to continue the scene after the opening montage. Instead, they shot ahead to the next day at lunch. I presume that (after congratulating Raj) they went on to celebrate Lenny's engagement.

Strawberry PopTart Fan
In spite of (or maybe because of) all the drama and misunderstandings and interruptions and sabotage and bad luck and bad timing and Sheldon that Penny and Leonard have endured, we have still enjoyed so many great Lenny moments these past 7 seasons! Here's to 3 more seasons of great Lenny moments now that the entire cast is "in".

3ku11
Yes clearly Raj didn't intend to upstage Leonard and Penny's big day. And clearly I don't think it would of mattered if they switched up the moments, for the sake of comedy, or being sweet it really woulden't of made a difference. I am really looking at the writers, they could of played it out a lot better. I don't really agree that Penny waited too long to announce the engagement, or even propose. Considering their relationship has always been a work in progress, as has Penny's life haha. I mean look at her pregnancy tests, and the way she impulsively moved to LA to become an actress. Clearly Penny does not plan things haha, so everything has just happened organically and naturally. I don't think they should of got engaged in S6 or any earlier. Like I said they were always a work in progress, hot blonde next door and Socially Awkward Geek was never going to be smooth sailing. I think the balance in the relationship has always been Leonard all in since Middle Earth, and Penny catching up. If she was not ready in S3, she was sort of in S6. But it was the S6 finalie where she fully committed. The engagement was always going to have a feeling of anti-climax. It always felt more inevitable then a conclusion to a great series of stories. Regardless if it was intentional or not, preparing the viewers by watching Leonard and Penny get more intimate over the past three seasons, seeing Penny's insecurities, then the big engagement. Then to continue to see the running gag of the series exploited in the final for some set up joke, or throw away line regardless if it was from Bernadette's vantage point or anyone else's. It's like when Howard or Bernadette got engaged, and Sheldon walks In "I held Amy's hand!" Yes! This even bigger news, push Howard and Bernadette to the side haha. Maybe it's just my expectations were a bit too high, watching the first two seasons of the series, or I even expected a milestone and a big moment to be delt with sensitivity but this had Lorre written all over it. I am fine with setting up jokes for a laugh seeing it is a comedy, but from my perspective it was just uneccessarry. I do hope S8 begins with some form of engagement party, I just hope the writers focus on the right balance. Edited August 5, 2014 by 3ku11
