[Spoilers]Leonard And Penny Season 8 Thread

Recommended Posts

What about guys keep buying her drinks and sending them over to their table and at the end of the football game she grabs leonard hands and snogs his face off in front of all the guys, shows off her ring, walks out with leonard feeling 5'6. Halirious. ..

Yeah I think Leonard would go buy platform boots, because he well never get off cloud nine.

So change of topic where do you think Lenny well live in S8? Or well nothing change, and they well just float in between 4a and 4b? That's of course after having 4a all to them selfs all summer :). I am kinda thinking Leonard is ready for change, and he well move into 4b with Penny.

To quote Sheldon from the Season 3 finale, "oh, not this again!" Not sure I can handle another run of phantagrae and Tensor debating whether Sheldon would/could/should move out of 4A. No offence, guys, loved the first three debates but time to move on from the where will Lenny live debate.

How about the possible challenges they face in living together? Penny wasn't a big fan of the idea the first time it was attempted.

Yeah fair enough, I am not sure why Penny was againgst the idea, I guess they weren't where they are now. But this was after revealing she does love Leonard (Holocast Excitation and sure it was 48 Penc she told Leonard she loves him, already realized that in Holocast Excit). In Spoiler Alet Seg she never told Leonard she was againgst the idea, like she told Sheldon "Noo I love him, I don't want to hurt him". Obviousley she has intimacy issues who doesent, but does not explain why she was so specifically againgst the idea, independence thing most likely.

I think they will have some adjustment issues. They have been living separately for so long and Penny especially has been scrabbling on her own for quite a while. Adjusting to a shared bathroom will be challenging for her. I expect unsettled domesticity when we resume.

I was a little surprised that Penny bypassed the option of living together to go straight for getting engaged given her issues last season. Don't get me wrong I'm pleased, just a bit surprised..

Also just out of curiosity

Leonard says he wants to give penny the life she deserves, anybody like to elaborate on that?

I think leonard just wants her to be happy and wants to live with her, protect her and be there for her. All that matters to him is Penny's happiness and that they are happy and complete. You can't love without risks, as living together might cause all sorts of drama for the couple, trials & tribulations, financial security etc. Every girl deserves to be with someone who appreciates them and who gets how sweet, amazing adorable they are. Leonard wants to wake up every morning thinking, oh my God, I'm with her and it's is possible that two people can stay happy together forever.

I think Leonard would like to see her be a full time actress because he sees her struggling with it all the time lately. She devotes too much of her life to it and she knows it, when she takes the time to think about it. Remember last season when she sat and actually thought about what her passions were, her friends and her love, Leonard. Then this season she let it go that she needs Leonard in her life to be happy. When Penny thinks about this stuff or gets in a situation where she speaks from the heart, she knows what is most important to her, friends, family and Leonard, but all the rest of the time she is hung up with feeling like a failure and still worrying she is going nowhere. I think Leonard wants her to succeed because it will make her happy and proud of herself, so she can now concentrate on the really important stuff, them. Penny still has a lot of self worth issues, especially since she is getting older and is not '22' anymore, it may be a theme in season 8 and a way to delay the wedding.

I think this can be seen as pretty abstract as well. You could put a paternalistic twist on it if you chose, because its not him saying something like "I want us to build a life together". But I think it goes with the idea of unconditional romantic love. He wants to do something big for her, because he thinks she is awesome and he just wants to and because he can. And he had to give Sheldon some idea of the scale of his commitment. Not giving s just one thing, but committing for a lifetime. Or something like that.

I think there is both a romantic and practical component to his statement.

Leonard wants her to be 100% unconditionally happy in love for the first time in her life. In their seven year relationship as friends/lovers, he has heard or witnessed firsthand every crappy experience Penny has had with men, from Kurt to Mike, Dave Underhill to that guy in the restaurant proposing to the girl he dumped her for. In Tangerine, she blamed herself, when it was the men's fault. He knows she has finally accepted that he won't do that to her. In a way she deserves a happy life because she has also made him happy for the first time too. Remember Sheldon's statement in Recombination"the reason you're fixated on a good natured simpleton like Penny is that she is the exact opposite of your first romantic attachment, your brilliant yet intimidating mother", while said in Sheldon-speak were Leonard's thoughts since it was his dream sequence, not reality. Penny has given him the love he has always wanted but never received, despite her never getting that love from men herself. So in return he wants her to be as happy as she can be because she deserves it.

From the other perspective, Leonard has also witnessed first hand her eternal struggle for self worth and success. For seven years during the relationship ( and even before they met) Penny has suffered failure after failure in trying to be an actress. At the start of season 5, she was ready to give up and go home ( partly as a reaction to failing Leonard with the whole Raj fiasco) until she got that little commercial carrot. Leonard has celebrated every little success she has had but Penny demonstrated her lack of belief at the bar after the Serial Apeist firing. She belittled every word of encouragement Leonard offered for each acting achievement he rolled out and was showing her lack of self worth again. This saddened Leonard because in the second half of S7, he could see the joy she was getting from committing to the whole acting thing, probably for the first time in a sustained way. That scene when she walked in to 4A so proud of her audition and nailing the crying. Despite her protestations, the fact she had a real long term acting job to talk about (positively or not) with Serial Apeist was seeing Penny as a success for the first time. Leonard doesn't want that to disappear. When he finally understood what she was doing with quitting waitressing, he threw his 100% everything for Penny support behind it. She was fully committed to acting for the first time and he loved it. That's what the car was for. He didn't want her working at the CCF and limiting her commitment again. And so the idea of marriage and living together - and I don't want this to reignite the 'sugar daddy' debate from other threads because married couples are meant to support each other, and not always equally - to Leonard is a way to limit the financial burdens that have hindered her progress in acting (again, I don't mean to say they are getting married for financial reasons). She 'deserves' to have some success because she has worked so hard at it in recent times and he wants her to continue striving for it. Living together straight away means she can continue to commit to acting without the pressure of finding a menial job that limits her potential ( again that isn't to imply sugar daddy status! ). Acting should be her money maker, not waitressing. She deserves that, thinks Leonard.

It's also about the happiness their love brings that will make it easier to focus on her career. Maybe Leonard feels all the dramas in Penny's life have held her back from succeeding so the fact she is happy because of her stupid pop tart will make her succeed. I don't know. I'm probably talking BS but that's my take on the 'life she deserved' line.

TBH I think Leonard want's Penny to be happy despite Leonard, using Leonard make's her happy as a reason to be a succesfull actor, is not a good reason. She need's to do it for self, her career and acting, and anything really should always be separate from her relationship with Leonard.

I happen to agree with you, skull, but I was writing about what Leonard might have been thinking not what you or I might think.

If this is what Leonard thinks and Penny still wants to be independent it could be one of the issues that challenges them in S8. Who knows? It didn't seem to be an issue for her when Amy mentioned it made financial sense. Will wait and see. The writers have got those first few episodes ready to go!

Oh I agree I think Leonard would support Penny no matter what she does, and I Think he has made that clear. Obviousley Leonard is the perfect guy for Penny, Penny has even said that, I mean even Sheldon inferred that way back in S1. I am just saying their relationship is like their craft haha you know what I mean, the real world can be an evil place, so preserving their relationship, and keeping Penny's career or Leonard's too separate is the best thing to do. Going away individually as a couple, and bringing it back to the relationship. My point is if Penny want's to be an actress, she need's to do it for her self. not because she feel's she has to prove anything to Leonard, because her closest friend's happen to be really really smart looking for anyone who ever watched Zoolander xD . That's why finding a community of acting friends may help her find perspective in S8, so I think your right in S8 the issue for Penny and her relationship with Leonard, well be pursuing acting but finding independence at the same time, particularly financially. Also though I want for S8 obviously with Lenny engaged, Shamy maybe still being what ever they call their relationship lol, not get too serious, I want Couple Paintball!!

I hope they get that for at least a little of season 8, but I know the writers are going to rock the boat some more with them. The reason is they are main characters and if they are just content and happy, we can't laugh at then, plus it doesn't allow Sheldon to put his ridiculous two-cents in. I have always said, Leonard and Penny make Sheldon funny, Johnny and Kaley are the best supporting actors in the world, if you believe Jim is the main character, because they make him funny. So I expect the writers will keep screwing with Lenny just so Sheldon can get his uncaring remarks in that make everyone laugh. The writers only care primarily about Sheldon, so making Lenny suffer to make Sheldon funny or prominent in the story is no big deal to them. They didn't seem to care in the finale for him to just leave Amy without a word, hurting her, and look who gets the blame by most Shamy's, Lenny.

Its funny you say that about the writers because some of us think Amy is treated badly by one particular writer

I guess we all have gripes over certain things in the show

Really, I didn't know that. I like Amy so I don't like it when Sheldon or the girls hurt her. I don't like Leonard treated as a punching bag either, but doing it to Amy seems worse. I am hoping Leonard and Penny take care of her this summer.

Let's keep this on Leonard and Penny. Move discussions of Amy and Sheldon to their thread.

Leonard and Sheldon in the apartment stil and Lenny just in and out until they consummate marriage.  I m thinking Lenny will focus more on bringing their family members together.  I m hopeful we will see Leonard's dad; and I hope they bring in John Goodman as his dad.  And Penny's mom should be Rosanne not Lisa Kudrow..  TBBT has been a hub for Rosanne's alumni along its seasons.

Itwasdestined, you nailed it.  Lenny does everything for his queen, that is what man should do, always supports her unconditionally,. He might be 5'6 guy, but he is a good, caring guy   Like the song " when a man loves a woman ". GO LENNY :kissing: Leonard/ Penny , to the  chagrin of Sheldon, their child.

First of all, I think Sheldon will live with Leonard and Penny.  If that does happen, I think it will be because Penny feels sorry for him and talks Leonard into it.

I think that Leonard will support Penny both emotionally and financially while she pursues her acting career.   It's one thing to have your boyfriend support you while you are looking for a job, and something very different for your fiance to do so.   They are now officially a dedicated couple who are intending to spend the rest of their lives together.  Leonard would be more then happy to do it, and Penny won't feel any guilt in allowing him to do so.   This will take allot of pressure off of her and she won't feel obligated to take parts that she doesn't really want to.

I also think that most of the bumps that Penny and Leonard encounter in their relationship will be relatively minor, and mcuh of it might have to do with their families, both his and hers.  I think that it might be pretty interested seeing Penny's Mother, sister, and brother, and Leonard's Father, brother and Sister.

No matter what happens, I am looking forward to seeing it.
