Billy Bob was really good in the episode. It wasn't real plot heavy, but oh well. We get major plot in the Prom episode, so it's fine.

I also wanted to say thank you to Chloe for doing the taping report. Those are not easy! Also, it was great meeting her and fangirling with her. :)

I shouldn't of made that generalization. My comment was aimed at the poster who thought it was "filler" because it didn't relate to their favorite relationship canon.

Excuse me, when did I say it was a filler because it didn't relate to a favorite relationship?

I said it was a filler because it showed nothing like the other episodes this season Character Growth and Relationship growth. I fail to see a favorite relationship in what I posted.

IMO, there's no such thing as filler.  It's simply a matter of whether or not an episode is a "standalone" episode, which this is, or if it somehow furthers the relationship arcs, but that doesn't mean that an episode like this one is a place holder.

What about all the episodes before the guys started truly coupling up?  Were they all filler before?  Was "The Precious Fragmentation" filler?  There was a tiny bit of Lenny in there, but otherwise it was all about the ring.  I don't consider an episode like that to be filler.

Just because an episode doesn't address some burning question about one of the couples (mostly Shamy/Lenny) doesn't mean that it's "filler".

Just my personal soapbox.

Jesus there's no winning with you guys, you come here, write something and people take the wrong way and just keep going with it. This reminds me why I stopped posting here, you can't say 'A' without people getting 'B' and replying 'C'.

Everything needs to be about shipping with you guys! Get over it.

And to keep this in topic, I'll say it again, I think this is going to be a funny episode with no character growth like the rest of the episodes this season, I'll just take the relationship out and maybe you guys won't be so hung up on it like it's some sort of neon sign.

Aren't practically all special guest episodes "standalone" episodes.  They are really written to showcase the strengths or accepted quirks of the guest star and all of the regulars characters usually find their "normal" behavior stretched to accommodate the guest star.  In this episode Leonard is totes cool enough with Dr. crushing on Penny to go to his house, instead of questioning the relationship?  In the James Earl Jones, episode we are supposed to believe that Sheldon is going to sit on a sauna bench where some other man's naked butt has been?  Not happening, even for one of his heroes, he couldn't relieve himself in the bucket in the last episode.

Etienne that's exactly what I think, I never said it was a shitty episode or shitty writing, I was merely comparing to the little I know of adaptations of books/comics/manga to anime/movies/tv series, that when you are recreating a story and you have one scene/episode that is there only to fill the blank because you can't possibly finish the story in one go.

And as much as TBBT is 'only a sitcom' the writers are telling a story, it's going somewhere.

No no, the thread where the TR is posted is the Season 8 Taping Report thread, sometimes people use this thread to post behind the scenes and also other version of the reports when more than 1 people attend to and write down.

It showed relationship growth with Lenny because in the past some guy coming to Penny's door would have evoked a different reaction from Leonard. It would of ended most likely in a big Lenny argument. Your ignoring of that suggested to me that the Lenny relationship was insignificant to you.

Sorry, but I don't think that just because there's no big sign that shouts "Character Growth!" that an episode is filler.  And just because people disagree with your interpretation of the nature of the episode doesn't mean that anyone is attacking you personally.

And I think that the issue with the term "filler" is that so many people use it when an episode isn't about the various "ships".

No one said that you thought it wasn't going to be a good episode.

All I was saying is that just because an episode isn't about the relationships, or character growth, doesn't mean that it's treading water or is somehow "filler", which, to me, always seems to have a negative connotation, like this episode isn't as important or significant because it's not about some specific thing.

It doesn't matter which relationship one favors, but sometimes funny things just happen, but the episode is no less a part of the overall narrative.  It may not further one thing over another, but that doesn't alter the significance.

IMO

ETA: Any story that they want to tell is part of the narrative.  We're simply seeing things that happen in these characters' lives, whether they're work-related, hobby-related, friend-related or relationship-related.  In that regard, nothing is filler.

Just because I didn't win the lottery yesterday doesn't mean that yesterday didn't mean anything.  Whatever happened to me still happened.  Maybe it was funny, maybe I had a good time doing some simple thing.  Just because it wasn't dramatic or Important doesn't mean I didn't experience it.

So you're saying that a guy 'falling in love' with Penny, Amy and Bernadette in the span of a few hours is somehow significant?

Or that the guys spend hours locked up inside a strange guy's room and that it has also any significance to the overall story?

@Chrismo, this last episode, with Lenny arguing over money, was much more growing as a couple than Leonard not freaking out over an obviously creepy guy. And that's exactly what I said, comparing to the other episodes this season, this one felt much more like a 'filler'.

I never said you were attacking me, I just said you guys overreacted and turned my opinion about an episode into some kind of shipping war. You don't have to apologize to me because you have a different opinion, I'm not gonna agree with you on this and I didn't post that to make anyone agree with me.

Thank again for Report Chloe and for To Shamyshipper and Michy for the Info provided. Really appreciate it. Sounds like you guys had a Fun Time.

Sounds lie it going to be a Fun Episode! It not a new Comic Book Store or Halloween Episode but this well do and I don't care if there any Character Growth, Relationship moments or drama, etc,. Just as long as the Episode enjoyable which it sounds like it s Going to be. It nice to have it but We don't need that every episode. Remember this is not a soap opera. Also it was implied that Penny flirts with Doctors in last Episode.

So Billy Bob is the 'Special Ingredients' Prady was talking about? And the Big Guest Star.

And the Crew not being allowed on the Sets make sense now... They did not want any toys to magically disappear lol

Okay, so I'm not sure if anyone has reported this yet, but there's dialogue from the prom episode that I'm not sure was in the taping report.

In the scene where Amy tells Sheldon she is going up to the roof without him, he opens to door to come stop her by telling her, "I really did think you looked pretty." She stops in her tracks. "You did?" He explains that that's why he got overwhelmed. There's a lot of pressure on him about the after-prom traditions. Amy says, "just because it's prom, doesn't mean we have to spend the night together." Sheldon asks, "but were you hoping that we would?" Amy says, "I'm always hoping." That's when she reassures him that there's no pressure on him about the night and that all she wanted was to go to prom with him. Which leads into her starting to say, "there's something else I want to tell you, and you don't have to say it back just because I said or just because it's the social convention…" That's when he says, "I love you, too."

And the others who were at the taping last night and saw the episode might be able to help me confirm this, but I believe Amy asked him if he's sure. That's when he explains the feeling that he has and he's been trying to figure out what it is, and the only other explanation seemed less likely. Which means that it must be love.

This is so perfect

Who said your comment was about shipping wars?

And I didn't say that the episode is "significant"--I think it's a matter of how one designates "significance".  What I'm saying is that just because an episode isn't a milestone of some kind for any particular character or couple doesn't mean that it is somehow "filler".

What I'm saying is that any episode is about essentially a "day in the life" of these people.  While running into this guy and hanging out in his basement may not change anyone's life, that doesn't mean that the story doesn't matter.  Again, it may not be a milestone in some aspect of what these people are going through, but it's still something that happened in their lives.

And I think that getting to play all these games and see the guy's scifi collection might feel significant for these characters in some way.  Meeting Stan Lee and going out for gelato with him was an important experience for the guys.  Did any of them grow because of that?  Not necessarily, but they still might look back on it as a significant event in their lives.

I got to play a concert with Harry Connick, Jr., once upon a time.  It didn't change the trajectory of my life or make me a better person, but it's still an important event to me.  It may not matter to anyone else that I got to do that, but it mattered to me.

Likewise, a viewer might not care if they met some weirdo who had a big sci-fi collection and hit on any girl who looked at him, but getting to see that collection and play those games could very easily be important to the guys, growth or no growth.

That's why I say that no story they choose to tell is really filler.  Something always happens that's worth seeing.

Leonard wasn't there when the guy was "falling in love"  with Amy and Bernadette. As I may have said earlier (I forget now) when Penny had the study guy up in her apartment he was jealous. A discussion on another thread has been ongoing on what would happen if some guy in her new job hit on her. I understand he was creepy and thirty years older but his reaction was different. He also quizzed Penny why she wasn't wearing the ring. I'm not sure a couple of years ago he wouldn't of done that. Penny's answer too wasn't defensive as it has been in the past. This whole situation IMO in the past would have turned into an argument. The money issue with Lenny IMO, and I know I'm in the minority, has never been a big issue like it is to Howard/Bernadette. So to me this was more significant than the last episode. As phanta I believed pointed out "filler" has more than one definition to people.

Thank you for adding more details, Michy.  I was trying to remember everything while posting about it in the Shamy thread.  I'm glad you remembered the dialogue.  Such an amazing scene.
