Episode is 19m:30s long which is pretty much standard standard length. They cut stuff all the time for the sake of time.

I guess they cut the Penny / Raj stuff as it wasn't important for the story.. And to be honest it was more of a cheap comedy shot. Either way I'm glad they cut it.

someone else may have the answer but they may have filmed more than they needed for the episode and then cut it out in the editing? I think that has happened in the past. others may remember. Tensor?

I think they do that often, filming more than they need which ends up getting cut for time (or to improve the flow of the episode). The fact that it was yet another gratuitous mention of the Penny/QuickDraw drunken hookup that got removed is just a bonus, as far as I'm concerned. Personally, I think that it should only be addressed one more time: when Penny and Emily hash out their differences and set themselves on the road to a real friendship. After that, let it remain buried until the end of time.

What needed to be edited was the scene mentioning that Leonard and Howard were friends before Raj came along. As mentioned earlier that wasn't the case. The Penny/Raj hook up IMO needed to stay in because Penny's Raj/mother and Emily/father comparison made no sense since the parents are divorcing. Mentioning the hook up with just the three of them there wouldn't of been so bad since it would have made the father happy. I'm not sure why Penny would be mad since it was her mistake. It would have been a reminder for the future when, and I agree with you, the whole situation gets hashed out between Emily and Penny.

I noticed they cut it out and it didn't seem to bother me in the least. I guess that is because it is so old.

Overall loved this episode. I wasn't sure about the friend thing between Leonard and Howard but last year's Christmas episode implied they were friends before Sheldon came along as well when they discussed why they didn't live together. I know in the Staircase they implied that Leonard had just met the two guys so I don't know.

Continuity does not seem to be concern in this show so I really don't think about it.

Blame Peter Chakos, he does the editing. ;). Normally, they would have over two, sometimes three hours of video, to edit into the show. If that seems like an awfully large number, remember each camera is capturing video from the time they call action, to the time the call cut. For example, let's use a two minute scene, with three takes, and four cameras. From action to cut would be about 2:10. With four cameras, that's 8:40 of video. Now, after the third take, there is now 26:00 minutes of video. If there are 10 more scenes, (for a twenty minute show) that would be 260 minutes(about 4.5 hours) of video, to edit down to a 20 minute show. And remember, not all the takes are going to new the same length. If they use a take for one scene, that runs longer, then that has to be taken out of another scene. It's all going to depend on how they want to tell the story, and what parts are most important.

I'm glad they cut the bit about the Raj/Penny incident.  If nothing else, it eliminates yet another go-round of that subject...

But whether or not the show runs long, they could have decided after the fact that that part of the scene wasn't as funny as they initially thought, or maybe they knew that some people on the forums would start whirling round and round again. :p

JUST KIDDING!!

I think it's more about it not being as funny as they hoped, or changing the tone of the scene from where they wanted it to end, since that's often why they re-shoot some moments, like the tag scene in the first Proton episode (it was different in the taping report), or the infamous Jim-in-a-t-shirt Streetcar tag that didn't make it into the episode.

At any rate, I totally forgot about that moment and thought the scenes in Amy's apartment played well.  I loved the "Ball of Wool" game.  Nerdvana!

I do think that would be an appropriate moment for Penny to perhaps explain how she was regretting breaking up with Leonard and Raj was again feeling like he'd never meet someone and how those feelings--and being very very drunk--led them to their mistake.

If they want to really spell it out for the audience.  I mean, I think the inference is very clear that that's what was going on, but they might wish to underscore the truth of how and why it happened.

Quick comment about last night's episode.  There are a lot of times when we say things get lost in translation with the taping reports, where things don't seem as funny as they do on screen.  However, in this case Michy added a little commentary that cracked me up and enhanced the scene for me.  When Sheldon and Bernie are in the car, she said there was just too much xmas cheer coming out of Bernadette's face.  It struck me as so funny that I actually wish Sheldon had said to her "there's too much xmas cheer coming out of your face".

Bernadette singing Christmas songs and Sheldon trying to stop her was a highlight for me!! Loved Bernie in this ep.

So, was Bernie initially just driving Sheldon to the party (since they were already dressed up)?  When I read the TR I was trying to figure out why they were driving together, but it seems to make sense that if Howard was at the lab with Leonard and Amy was at home getting the party prepared, maybe it fell to her to pick him up.  Although as neighbors, Penny could have brought him, unless she was at Amy's place to help with the preparations.

So then, was the trip to the Mall a spur of the moment thing?  Bernie wasn't there to buy anything and the decision to buy a gift to punish Amy seemed to be a sudden decision.

Anyway, I loved having them together for a change.  Plus it's kind of funny because shes so short and he's so tall. Thought she was going to get a crick in her neck! :p

From Queen Morya :

The title of 8.13 is The Anxiety Opitimization

I'm gonna call Lenny starts their wedding planning in this episode. The definition of optimization is to make a decision as perfect as possible. I can see them having a lot of anxiety trying to make their wedding as perfect as possible as wedding planning is very stressful. It's time to get that ball rolling too cause they need a juicy storyline.

the infamous Jim-in-a-t-shirt Streetcar tag that didn't make it into the episode.

As this is the first season I've been consistently reading taping reports, I would love to know which episode this was so I can look it up. :)

I was trying to think of the title of this episode and I can't remember it.  It's the one that starts out with Penny helping Sheldon with a FWF segment.  Then he skypes with Amy and she tells him to thank Penny.

She invites him and Amy to her production of A Streetcar Named Desire.  I can't remember the other storyline, which must be what the title was related to.

It was after Sheldon and Amy became bf/gf, and it was the one where she got fired from the monkey study because she threw their feces back at them ("Those better be tootsie rolls you're throwing at me!")

The Monster isolation  :) other plot was Raj isolating himself with tons of lobsters and tighty whities, crying of his love life  in messy, smelly apartment :icon_biggrin:

Drats. Everybody beat me to it ... I'm just gonna play smartypants somewhere else... :icon_biggrin:

That was my thought too (The Mindy Project). But it gets such terrible ratings, and he says this show isn't on it's last legs and will be around for awhile. I was thinking Once Upon A Time, but I can't imagine why they'd have Emma get pregnant with Hook's kid (though I'll admit I'd love it). I'm very curious what show it is. Just glad it's not BBT though. No babies, at least until the very end of the show.
