rachelshamyfan
Probably the sane way he continues to read "granny on granny" that Howard subscribed for him Something obviously intrigues him!
fitzsimmons
Did he read it out of curiosity? I believe he picked it up an started it not knowing what it was, but by the time he realized it, he had already started and had to finish. And as much as I don't like him reading a poor representation of sexual intimacy, I like that he's opening his mind to it.
djsurrey
Well if we remember s5e23 Leonard: We got you that book last year. Wasn’t everything in there? Sheldon: No, I’m having a relationship problem with Amy. And by the way, that book gave me nightmares. If a book of the basic facts gave Sheldon nightmares I can't even imagine why he would be good with 50 shades.
djsurrey
So in s4e21 Penny: Sheldon, have you ever kissed a girl? Sheldon: Other than my mother, my sister and my mee-maw, no. But in the interest of full disclosure, I was once on a bus and had to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to an elderly nun who passed out from heat exhaustion. Every year I get a Christmas card from her, signed with far too many X’s and O’s. Bernadette: That doesn’t count. Aren’t you even a little curious? Penny: Yeah, you’re a scientist, where is the curiosity? Amy: I’m available for experimentation. Sheldon: Thank you. Not necessary. We know everything there is to know about kissing. It requires 34 facial muscles and 112 postural muscles. So we all know he initiated a kiss with Amy on the train and on date nights since then. There has been no mention of him getting father than that except virtually with d&d dice role playing. Edited February 1, 2015 by djsurrey

I've always thought the book had pictures, too, "Joy of Sex?" I imagine that would give him nightmares more than the descriptions.
kerrycec03
Well 50 Shades of Gray is some pretty advanced material for a novice....so because he finishes everything he starts of course he read it all (and it's pretty easy to fly through that book...think it took me like 3 days lol)....but I hope our boy realizes that what's in that book is NOT what is expected... Either way it's just another sign pointing towards his curiosity on the subject.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

wowbagger
If your really worried about either Lenny or Shemy; allow me to introduce the common sense fairy (okay that sounds to demeaning and it's not my intent, so bear with me here). Between seasons 6-7 while Leonard was away on a ship for 4 months, both Penny and Sheldon spent time in close proximity to each other (something Leonard requested of Penny mind you). If Penny can spend THAT MUCH TIME with Sheldon while not gaining ANYTHING that resembles romantic feelings for each other (while STILL retaining their romantic feelings for their respective partners mind you), why am I to believe that a measly experiment that lasts less than a day is going to create anything between them? I'm sure that Leonard and Amy know this as well. Not to mention this is all just a cover to keep Sheldon busy until his surprise birthday party if I recall. On another topic, am I the only one who doesn't really think much of Raj's girlfriend Emily? She doesn't seem to bring anything of substance to their relationship. A shame since I usually adore Laura Spencer. I'm never demeaned by the common sense fairy! She brings me hiking boots and a good umbrella! Grin- my post was actually meant to be a response to some musings about the significance of a Sheldon/Penny interaction at this stage, and why said musings occurred. They weren't meant to indicate that I attached any significance to said interaction. Indeed, my earlier post about the episode was very, very unworried. I am also saddened by the lack of traction on Raj and Emily. I enjoy the actor, and I think it's a bit strange that we're making no headway with a main cast-member's first extended on-screen romance. Well until her show "Bones" ends, there's not much anybody can do about it. I think I saw somewhere that this is its last season and when it's done, she'll be on BBT a lot more. djsurrey
Evidently he's warmed up to the idea. Yes, and we've seen how that has changed. Watching S6E2 rerun. Leonard: Okay, I think I understand. Sheldon: You do? Leonard: The guy who seems like an emotionless robot is you, but your relationship with Amy is causing you to transform into a red-blooded man with sexual desires. Sheldon: That is literally the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. I expect Sheldon will change and he was in denial to an extent. It's not going to happen all at once. tmp
Okay, I wasn't going to bring this up because I wanted it to be a fun surprise, but since it's come up in the topic... Penny has read 50 Shades, and Sheldon has accidentally read her copy of it. I believe his exact response was something along the lines of, "How many times can one woman's loins detonate?" #saidsheldontoamy The word "detonate" is cracking me up. fitzsimmons
The word "detonate" is cracking me up. Yeah the way he said it, it was with emphasis or like air quotes or something. I've never read the book (because from what I've seen in quotes, it's terrible on a number of levels) but I assume that word is overused.
ATOB
I've read the first one (and that was plenty-nuff thank you)! The Guardian rather amusingly digested it if you want to know the plotline without subjecting yourself to the appalling writing. Though it has lead some amusing web reads (Thanks ATOB for the latest)...mostly focusing on how the female character has about 3 brain cells! I can't imagine Sheldon reading the book and not going catatonic...if not from the content...then at least the horrific writing! Though he can probably speed read, so maybe he was able to get through quickly enough to not sustain too much damage. djsurrey
What could possibly get Sheldon to read such a book? It makes no sense to me at all. If there is one character least likely to read it it would be Sheldon. Of course a lot of comedy flows from event one would not expect.
