Chrismo
I have to complain how horribly sexist last nights episode was. All you Shamy fan girls got to see a half naked Sheldon being bathed by Amy. Where is the equal time for us Lenny fan guys??? When are we going to see Leonard soaping Penny, huh? It is just not fair. I'm pretty sure your joking but if not you can make my avatar picture bigger.
djsurrey
Ok, this episode... where do I begin???? SO MUCH AWESOMENESS!!! Aside from my personal bias with loving that Tag scene (I am a red blooded, hetero female, so duh!) that whole episode was probably the funniest, most well rounded and balanced episode we've had all season. It had just about everything: nerdy science, guy bonding, girl bonding, friends ragging on friends, mutual humiliation, STEPHEN FREAKIN' HAWKING trolling, weird accents, even Lenny goodness! God, why don't they write this way more often? I mean I love all the Shamy we've been getting, and we got some sort of good Shamy here but they managed to sandwich it in with really good stuff for the other main ship, and got the friendship stuff in there, and the guy bonding. So it CAN be done people! I am just so beyond pleased with this episode, for my ship, for the bromance, for the besties, all of it. Seriously, A+ PS. I want to read that fic of Amy's so bad ;P They are only human and overall I think they do a good job. It is hard to be great all the time. Also, they cater to a wide audience and it could be not everyone will be as enthusiastic as most people in this forum have been about this episode. If you are wondering why I'm stating the obvious I'll admit I wanted to respond to a mostly positive post rather than some of the newer ones. fitzsimmons
Oh brother, not this "guys are uncomfortable when other guys are naked" bullshit again. BODIES ARE BODIES. WHO FREAKING CARES. Are you that insecure with your sexuality that another man being shirtless makes you squirm? Good lord. If the ladies got like that every time Penny or Bernadette dressed in something sexy, we'd have to stop watching the show. Good freaking grief. It's no way universal, but climate and social norms make the difference. But does this "bullshit" come up much anyway? Not where I live. Goodness we don't even have cubicles in many public swimming pool change rooms - boy or girls. I have only gotten as far as the cold open on this one and it looks very good (waiting for the opportunity to share). Sheldon and Leonard at it on the kitchen island - shirts on or off - is a terrific concept. Funny as. Good on Penny for bringing it up. And they broke the table once? They are keeping the embers alight. Looking forward to my spouse cracking up at the end.

meka3000
You've conveniently decided to ignore Penny's gripes about Leonard's lack of prowess in the bedroom department then That's ALWAYS been portrayed inconsistantly. Somedays she says he's a genius, somedays he's "the king of foreplay", somedays she's turned on by him enough to do it in the lab & the tardis (twice! :D ), then somedays it's bad, or that he tries really hard. Basically every time his "lack of prowess" is brought up, it's played for laughs and not in a serious manner. At this point I just see it as sometimes Leonard has good days, sometimes he doesn't. Like in real life, just because people have sex on a consistent basis doesn't mean it's always good or bad. Nogravitasatall
It comes up regularly in this thread, yes. And it's getting to be tiresome. Well, I think it's more about show content, emphasis and what we call in cricket, "sledging the other side", than any sexual insecurities. But nobody on the show had any of those, it seems. That's nice. All systems go, or at least functional. . Regardless, cheering every nip slip, side boob flash or display of rampant forearm lends itself to a bit of ribbing. They should go to Finland for a conference, or Stockholm, and we could all get it out of our systems when they sauna. But you are probably right about tiresome. Sheesh, you'd think adults would learn. Lol, (counts posts, sighs).

Good freaking grief.sort of an apple and orange comparison with Sheldon and Penny. IMO Penny brings the sex appeal to the show. Sheldon does not. he's on to be funny. my wife had the same opinion as dena. TBH there would be tons of other guys she'd rather see shirtless than Sheldon. My avatar is obviously a sexy outfit but there was a purpose for what Penny was wearing. it related to the story. The episode up to the tag was great. The shirtless really didn't bother me. my problem is that the fantasy scene made Amy look horny and desperate for sex with Sheldon something that has been brought up repeatedly on the show. Itwasdestined
Well, I'm a nearly 50 year old man who had no problem with Shirtless Shelly, but then I come from a country whose prime minister parades himself around like David Hasselhoff in Baywatch on a regular basis so I have learnt not to care. Like the rest of the episode I found it funny and for me that was all that mattered. As for it getting tiresome, it's one of many topics that gets tiresome on this thread. Complaining ain't gonna stop it. Edited February 7, 2015 by Itwasdestined

Michy, I'm not quite sure who you are referring to here, but I think djsurrey is talking about feeling uncomfortable in discussing sexual situations or naked images with women(the mixed company thing) who may be half his age. I know I tend to be careful, unless I have some kind of previous rapport with a particular young woman. Some of the posters can be only a third of my age and I can't get it out of my mind that it may look a bit creepy for a 59 year old guy to be kidding around with woman in their early twenties about some things sexual. I'm referring to the attitudes of many of the male members here who say things like "try to remember there's guys on this site" like that somehow means there are certain parts of the show we're not allowed to discuss because it might make the heteronormative male members uncomfortable. I wasn't referring to anyone in particular which is why I didn't quote any posts. But never mind.

This is a good point. There was similar discussion on the general Season 8 thread when a lot of people gushed about pants-less Sheldon in the premiere episode. If I had to guess, I'd say that 98% of the posters on the Shamy thread are female and sometimes the conversation can get a little out of hand. It's a little weird to have the same kind of conversation in "mixed company". I actually agree with Chrismo that Penny is supposed to bring the conventional sex appeal, while Sheldon really isn't. (No matter how attractive I think JP is in real life--it's a testament to his acting skills.) Even in the fantasy where Shamy is sexing it up, it is still uniquely them and kind of weird and funny. Leonard was freaked out (Chrismo's response) but Penny seemed pretty into it (Shamy fan's response). I'd bet that after Leonard went to sleep, Penny stayed up for hours reading the whole story. To each his (her) own, for sure.

phantagrae
Since this is a thread for general discussion of the show and this season, it seems to me that any discussion related to any episode this season is relevant, including gushing over Sheldon in his tighty-whities or in a bathtub, or anyone else in or out of any clothing as it may happen. It's not our fault that Jim sometimes seems to get the most skin time. And while sexy is certainly in the eye of the beholder, that doesn't mean that those who do behold it are wrong just because someone else doesn't see it. Anyway, I don't think the bathtub scene was really meant to be sexy, certainly not in a conventional sense. I think it was actually meant to be Amy's fantasy about what she thinks would sexy--Amelia bathing and drying Cooper, and going on to do who knows what. That some viewers enjoyed the view of Jim's body is a separate, but still discussion-worthy, issue.

In my opinion the discussion in the general thread should be inclusive of all fans of TBBT regardless of age or gender. That cuts both ways. There is really no need to be gushing over a little skin here or there in season 8. This is more a public square than an internment gathering IMO.
