Jim Parsons stated in an interview in the UK yesterday that he feels the show will continue through Season 12. What are some thoughts on this.

I context I think he was implying that the network/studio might want it to go that long because it's good for syndication, etc., not necessarily that he thinks it's the best idea. He said they were signed through S10, but that he wouldn't be surprised if they ended up going to S12.

He said something about how sometimes a show is continued longer than is good for it. I don't think he was talking about TBBT in particular, but that the demands of syndication often outweigh what's best for the show.

You know people are going to latch onto that comment, though.

Acting like a crybaby is allowed. Silly arguments are allowed. Specious arguments are allowed. What's not allow is attacks on other posters. That hasn't happened yet(it's been skirting it, so let's be careful). Let those who want to discuss or argue it, discuss or argue it. If you like parts of it, jump in or out as you please. If you don't like the discussion (or argument), don't participate in it.

The characters is how the writers want to protray them. I may disagree with them sometimes (cough cough shenny ep coming up)

Can't we all just get along?

I actually wish they took this Thursday's episode a step further. I was thinking back to Season 1 when Leslie suggested skipping the date and going to the after date kiss with Leonard. After the Shenny 4 minute staring they should of went for the kiss. that would ultimately proven if they could fall in love or not. Edited by Chrismo

3ku11. My point in suggesting they kissed was mainly brought up since Sheldon(and Amy) are into scientific experiments. I don't think Penny would have been fazed in kissing Sheldon. She's kissed many guys in the past. Sheldon on the otherhand has only kissed Amy. I would think he would be into comparing and contrasting the difference between the two women.

Woulden't be fazed into kissing Sheldon? lol your kidding right. You make it sound like shes easy and kisses any guy she see's eye rolls. If Penny was asked about kissing Sheldon she would laugh to her aches hurt, or throw up. If the expereiment entailed kissing any guy no matter who it is, she wouldent. She loves Leonard, she would never betray him like that. She never has once, when they are together why start now.

i didn't mean like you took it. my point was kissing Sheldon would hsve no effect. laughing I could see. Throwing up is a little drastic even for me.LOL

Hey I could see a quick peck on the cheek. But full on makeout lol, fundamentally just feels awkward and almost incest. But that's just me, of course that didn't happen. This is nothing about Sheldon, she just happened to do the expeirement with Sheldon, well because shes already in love with Leonard lol. But I am just saying say she did it Stuart, he is a normal guy, they have history. I don't think even then she would. But kissing was not part of the experiement anyway.

God forbid. Given the deterioration in quality reflected in S7 and S8 I hate to think what 4 more seasons will be like,

Nonsense.

Bring it on I'd say. I figure if I stop enjoying it at some point I just do something else. It will have to drop in ratings a lot before it will be canceled.

What about March Madness?  And no episodes during May sweeps?  Seems odd...although CBS seems to be doing some odd stuff lately..

I think we just don't have any information beyond the March dates. They've got to spread the remaining episodes into May, so there are going to be a combination of new and re-runs on Thursdays in May sweeps.

Do we know for sure when the finale will air--how far into May they'll go?

Regarding syndication, and apologies if I have asked this before: do we think that that is why the showrunners have resisted serialisation in the past?

One thing that strikes me about this season and the past one is that the show seems to be slowly incorporating serialisation- by which I mean events in one episode depend on events in another. The paper is one example.

The show (I thought) used to prefer stories that would begin and complete in one episode, and I thought they did that so that they could air episodes out of order in syndication and you could still follow and laugh. Or is this just because in the UK when TBBT is in reruns they air episodes in seemingly random order? Does this happen in other countries?

I actually like your idea, because it could really put some closure to Shenny or let us know if the writers are thinking of going with more Shenny. Penny could kiss him, them run to the bathroom to throw up, end of Shenny. She could kiss him and enjoy it, the beginning of romantic Shenny, or, I hope not, something inbetween. At this point, I don't care, if the writers want Shenny, all I ask is that they put Leonard with someone who cares about him and stop torturing him, maybe put him with Alex or Alice. I could be funny to see all four of them watching TV, Alice in Leonard's lap, kissing him, and Penny trying to kiss Sheldon, while he tells her the relationship agreement forbids PDA.

i have got to cease and desist reading this thread.

I don't think the writers have ever implied that they wrote self-contained episodes in order for them to play well in syndication.  I don't think they could have counted on that back when the show first started.  I think you have to reach 100 episodes or something before your show will sell into syndication.

I think that they just weren't interested in writing a soap opera and it may well be that the way they "break" stories or come up with ideas, they didn't feel the need to write in that fashion.  They did occasionally refer back to a previous event or some ongoing thing, but I think that writing stand-alone episodes just gives them more freedom to tackle whatever they wanted to deal with at the time.

And here, most stations that buy into the syndication go ahead and runt he episodes in order anyway.  Now, my local FOX affiliate shows episodes pretty much every week night at 6:00 and 6:30.  I think at first they were showing them in order, but recently it seems that they show an older episode at 6, followed by a newer episode at 6:30, however the 6 o'clock eps run in order, and the 6:30 eps run in order, I believe.

Anyway, TBS runs them in order until they hit the last one they have, then they start over again.  So I don't think there had been any master plan about how they write the storylines.

I think that the sense of ongoing stories now may have more to do with the fact that they have to progress forward with certain storylines--L/P's eventual wedding, S/A's relationship progression, Raj and Emily's relationship progression, and now, sadly, Mrs. W's death and how Howard will deal with different aspects of it.

I don't think they're in any hurry to resolve any of these storylines, except maybe for Mrs. W, but they can intersperse the ongoing stories with standalone things that don't really have any impact on them.

Leonard described Penny to Raj in the Spaghetti catalyst as beautiful, kind, sexy and funny and all you would ever want in a woman.

He was obliquely saying that, and then he went on to say how "she" would stomp on your heart, or tear it into pieces or whatever.
