@ATOB, big ups. So angry but keeping it short. We are a technology using species. People need to cope. I look forward to the thread for this argument. But TBBT makes its own efforts in their very small way. Let's see them guest Stephen Fry. That'd be cool. And likely only in another universe.

Oh, please not Stephen Fry! Anybody but Stephen Fry! It may be because I am from the UK, but Stephen Fry seems to be on literally everything these days. Almost every show here either has him as a guest star or a presenter or something like that. It's ridiculous. I used to quite like him, but over-exposure has made him just a bit annoying and not very interesting.

If you want a British scientist, why not have Brian Cox guest? I know he's mainly focussed on the astronomical side to things, but he has done shows based on evolution and other parts of science. Besides, he could be involved in a astronomy plot with Raj, couldn't he?

Let's debate the quietness from the cast and crew regarding this taping, its first sweeps episode so something reasonably big could happen I guess?

I agree... either they have a super guest star coming that's even more hush hush than Billy Bob or Stephen Hawking OR they are going to WOW us with some super story.

they have given literally nothing away. Reminds me of the good old days when such info was never leaked ( I love this version though)

well, a few more hours left till we find out why ( hopefully)

Didn't I just read somewhere that Jim would love to have Lisa Kudrow as a guest star in the show? Not that the story seems to be at at point where they'd need her yet, but Lisa Kudrow playing Penny's mom would be great IMO.

The only problem is Penny's mom is suppose to be overweight and let's face it, Lisa is hot. Remember Sheldon told Penny once to keep eating because he saw a picture of her overweight mother.

Personally, if Kirstie Alley is still plump... she could play her mother (I think).  She has the spunk to be Penny's mom. I'm not sure if the age would be right though

3ku11, this thread is for things in season 8.  It can be for ships, if those discussions are not supportive.  Both Tripper and I have directed those types of posts out of the Shipping Zones and into this thread.  Those rules have been here for quite some time.  You can have an opinion, what you can't do is tell people what they can post and where, especially as you were wrong about what this thread is for.  And the spoiler tag simply means that spoilers are allowed here, not that spoilers are the only thing this thread is for.  If you wish to discuss the rules or how you think things here should run, feel free to start a thread in "The Site" forum.

I don't think there's a break-up in the future.  There has already been so much heaviness lately with Mrs. W's death, I don't think any relationships will end.  I predict the relationships will be kept mostly light, and the drama coming from other areas like careers.

I will be pretty upset if the writers decide to make Leonard and Penny break up at this point. They have finally gotten them to a place where the relationship feels solid and I'm more than ready to see them happily planning their wedding!

If they break up Sheldon and Amy, Sheldon will probably go more crazy than he did the first time with his 25 cats. That might be funny, but only for one episode. I would expect Sheldon to go back into the relationship with a greater appreciation of Amy after a break-up. The writers might use a break-up plot to further advance Shamy, but since they've already progressed so much this season, I suspect (hope) the finale will be about living araingements or wedding planning.

If this was real life as you say then Leonard and Penny wouldnt be together, simply because in real life having nothing in common wouldn't work and also real life Leonard would of most likely given up waiting for Penny to commit to him

Two misconceptions:

1.) Lenny having nothing in common: this is wrong, they both have insecurities where they feel they are not good enough for people in their life, that manifested from their own respective parental figures (Leonard with his mother, and Penny with her father).  It's one of my favorite things about their relationship.  Also Leonard is known for his stubborn heart, so I doubt he would've given up on Penny that easily.

2.)  simply because in real life having nothing in common wouldn't work:  This one is wrong too, there are MANY relationships in real life that work despite having little to nothing in common.  My Brother and his Wife have dealt with that ever since high school (He's a computer programmer, she's a psychologist; he likes dogs, she likes cats; he's into comedy more, she's more dramatic; he's more into doing things outdoors, she's more into doing things indoors; etc.)  But despite all that, they do love each other AND are committed to each other and their relationship.  The idea that you can't have a good relationship JUST BECAUSE you don't have much in common is an urban myth.

I think a break up is brewing, not sure which couple just a feeling I have.

Most likely it will be Raj and Emily.

Amen to that meka. Everyone has their own definition of what makes a successful relationship and are entitled to their opinions and I have no intention of changing their perceptions. But it does personally irk me when the assumption that the Lenny relationship wouldn't work in real life because they have nothing in common is toused as irrefutable fact. As I say ad infinitum on this board, my life is Lennys life. If you want to find the real life version of Leonard and Penny, come spend a week with me and the missus. I'm a nerd with a 150+ IQ, she can't pronounce 3 syllable words without my kids laughing themsleves silly, , she's into shopping, I'm into buying. The only TV show we watch together is Big Bang. The rest of the time we grimace at each other's viewing choices. I'll watch sport all day - she barely asks for the score ( ok reverse Lenny there). I spend my days talking factoids, maths and science, she talks girl stuff at coffee club.

But 25 years ago, we met, fell in love and haven't looked like losing interest in each other. Like Lenny, we listen to each other's problems, discuss our day, go out together ( we do like musicals ) eat out, just spend quiet time in each other's presence and loving it and miss each other when we are apart. Like a Penny, the wife will listen to my crap without understanding it all and like Leonard, I will lovingly listen to her complaints about work and why that contestant on My Kitchen rules should go. Heck, I'll even tolerate being in the same room as her when she watches Say Yes to the Dress. I have friends ( and kids) to talk comics, superheroes, trivia and sport to. She has her friends to gossip with and talk crap about reality TV shows with. We don't need to spend every moment talking about common interests to enjoy each other's company and stay in love. And I can tell you that we are a lot happier than some of our friends who have a lot in common. And yeah the kids give us plenty to talk about and are a common interest and that will bring Lenny closer when that happens ( at series. End).

Sheldon and Amy may have everything in common but have struggled until recently ( and it ain't there yet ) to build that emotional bond that Lenny have ( and I'm not talking sex).. Different strokes for different folks. Some need common interests. Others like Lenny and the Destineds have a different connection that works. Just don't decide that there is only one way that works. The show might work with relationship caricatures but it doesn't make them less real. rant over.

I apologize if I offended. I only brought up chewing toy because Chrismo said that he doesn't understand why Amy needs Sheldon if she has Gerard

Amy needs Sheldon (even though she has 'Gerard') because Gerard is a poor substitute for another person. There's no comparison. The only problem I see is that after years of only experiencing Gerard, Amy may have trouble adjusting. After all Amy knows what works for her and what doesn't.

I don't know, his genitals are "functional and aesthetically pleasing". I'm sure they can replace Gerard in Amy's "heart"

A person gets used to doing things a certain way, and sometimes the other person doesn't do things just right at first.

Season 3 episode 2

Penny: What did you tell them?

Leonard: Nothing bad, just that last night was fine.

Penny: Fine? You said it was fine?

Leonard: Yeah, it’s a perfectly good word. You put it in front of wine or dining, and you’ve really got something. Okay, well, let me ask you this, how was last night for you?

Penny: It was… okay.

Leonard: Okay?

Penny: Yeah, it’s a perfectly good word. I mean, you put it in front of dokay and you really got something. All right, look, let’s not overreact, you know? For a lot of couples, it takes time to get to know each other’s rhythms. Learn what the other person wants and likes.

In Amy's case, she has been in sole control of her own 'experience' from the beginning, and Sheldon has no 'hands on' experience.  So for a while things may be awkward.

And just out of curiosity, who deemed them 'aesthetically pleasing'? That would be a value judgment that requires an outside opinion (or is it just Sheldon 'blowing his own horn'?).
